WE’RE PUTTING THE BAND BACK TOGETHER AGAIN: John Kerry: False Prophet of the Climate Apocalypse.

Former Secretary of State John Kerry has a long and notable track record of being a global warming alarmist and now a climate change catastrophist. He authored many failed bills in the Senate that tried to impose carbon taxes on primary energy sources like oil, natural gas and coal, which provide 80 percent of the world’s energy.

All the while, Mr. Kerry flies around the world in his wife’s private jet living the lifestyle he publicly says is destroying the planet. This is the man President-elect Joe Biden has selected to be his climate czar and shape Biden’s climate policy.

I’ll believe there’s a crisis when the people who tell me there’s a crisis act like there’s a crisis themselves, to coin an Insta-phrase. Besides, the people who tell me it’s a crisis have also said that the point of no-return was passed years ago:

President ‘has four years to save Earth.’

—The London Guardian, January 27, 2009.

● “A secret report, suppressed by US defence chiefs and obtained by The Observer, warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a ‘Siberian’ climate by 2020.”

—The London Guardian, February 21, 2004.

Warming expert: Only decade left to act in time.

—NBC News, September 14, 2006.

U.N. Predicts Disaster if Global Warming Not Checked:

A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.

Coastal flooding and crop failures would create an exodus of “eco- refugees,” threatening political chaos, said Noel Brown, director of the New York office of the U.N. Environment Program, or UNEP.

He said governments have a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect before it goes beyond human control.

And finally, this classic:

by Ed Driscoll

2020 WAS THE POINT OF NO RETURN FOR ESTABLISHMENT MEDIA:

After 2020, it will be hard to see corporate media as anything but a public relations arm of the Democratic Party following the former’s attempts to bury not one, not two, but three major allegations leveled against left-wing politicians.

Axios, one of the more aggressive and fairer online news outlets, revealed in December that failed presidential candidate and Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell of California developed a relationship with a suspected Chinese spy who worked on behalf of the Communist Chinese government as part of a far-reaching espionage operation.

Swalwell, who sits on the House Intelligence Committee, has declined to address his past interactions with Christine Fang, including that she managed somehow to place an intern in his office. He has offered no good reason for why he should remain in his congressional assignment despite the sensitive nature of what is discussed in the committee. His ability to dodge the issue has been enabled in part by media, which have not bothered to press him on the matter. In fact, news of the congressman’s entanglement with a Chinese spy has been ignored entirely by the larger, older news outlets.

ABC, CBS, and NBC ignored the story entirely when it broke. The major broadcast networks continued to ignore it even after Republicans moved to have the congressman removed from the intelligence committee. NBC has nothing on its website about the Chinese spy scandal. Neither does CBS or ABC. The New York Times, the Associated Press, and the Los Angeles Times, similarly have avoided reporting on the scandal. Swalwell, meanwhile, has been allowed to skate on the excuse that the Axios report was a hit job orchestrated by the Trump White House, which doesn’t make any sense.

What a change of pace for the newsrooms that have spent the past four years hunting relentlessly for some connection between the Trump administration and Russian intelligence operations!

Just think of the media as Democratic Party operatives with bylines, and it all makes sense.  Speaking of which, their Strange New Respect for President Trump is beginning surprisingly fast:

Every Republican president or presidential candidate is Hitler, until his reputation is rehabilitated by  old media to bash the next (potential) Republican presidential candidate.

by Glenn Reynolds

LEFTISTS HAVE SEVERE MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL ISSUES THAT COMPEL THEM TO FOUL THEIR NESTS WHEREVER THEY ARE: A multibillion-dollar f-you.

This dialogue was punctuated by a pithy tweet from Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, who describes herself as a progressive Democrat, “F*ck Elon Musk.”

At that time, we had no idea how much that tweet, and attitude, would cost us.

Nine months later, Elon Musk is gone. He is selling all his personal real estate in the state. He is now a resident of the state of Texas. He has moved his philanthropic foundation to Texas, too.

Consider the unfathomable irony of progressive Democrats forcing Elon Musk to give up on California. Musk came to this state as an immigrant and proceeded to do more to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through Tesla Inc. (Nasdaq: TSLA) and its subsidiary, solar panel manufacturer SolarCity Corp., than all the “progressive” politicians in the state combined. Musk didn’t talk about it. He simply brought products to market that benefited the consumer, the environment and his shareholders. He should have been the poster boy for the green agenda, but instead they turned on him because he committed the ultimate sins: He made money and he questioned their authority.

This year, Musk is likely paying billions in state tax. Next year, he will be a resident of another state.

The damage goes much deeper than the tax revenue of one person. Musk didn’t just leave the state. He turned on the state. It is now his mission to get other innovators to leave as well. According to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, he is on the phone with Musk once a week, strategizing about how to get other California companies to relocate to Texas. In the last few weeks, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. (NYSE: HPE) and Oracle Corp. (NYSE: ORCL) have both announced they are moving their headquarters to Texas, with other potential moves in the pipeline.

In a nutshell, California state income tax is the highest in the nation, California’s ranking for “business friendliness” is the lowest, and we have elected representatives who would lob crass, vulgar F-bombs at the people who are paying the freight.

The worst thing about the Gonzalez tweet is that no one called her on it. No one in state government had the guts to repudiate her words and show a modicum of respect for a man many call “the da Vinci of our age.” Don’t think other business owners don’t notice.

Why stay in a state that’s run by nasty people who hate you?

by Ed Driscoll

THE EXODUS IS HERE: Your Christmas Present: Our Political Leaders Are Killing Off New York City.

Up in the state legislature, the Democrats have just increased their majority in the state Senate. All the buzz is about a new “millionaire’s tax” of several additional percent for those with annual income exceeding $1 million. And in New York City, Mayor de Blasio on December 18 held a news conference where he blurted out these words:

“I’d like to say very bluntly our mission is to redistribute wealth,” the mayor said. “A lot of people bristle at that phrase. That is, in fact, the phrase we need to use.”

The purpose of the “redistribution of wealth” is supposedly to fix the City’s schools. Those schools currently spend about $28,000 per year per student on K-12 education, which is well more than double the national average. As usual, de Blasio takes no responsibility for the failure of New York City schools to achieve even near-average results for almost triple the cost elsewhere in the country, and just demands more and more and yet more money.

They are doing their very best to kill off our city.

And they’re getting plenty of help: Foreign and domestic (Antifa) terror threats continue against police in NYC.

All of which is contributing to this headline: New York Had Largest 2019-20 Population Decline of Any State.

Socialism: If you build it, they will leave.

APPETITE FOR SELF-DESTRUCTION: 1619 Project’s Nikole Hannah-Jones picks a fight over Frederick Douglass and gets TKO’d.

In his best-selling 2000 book Bobos in Paradise, David Brooks wrote:

To get the most attention, the essay should be wrong. Logical essays are read and understood. But an illogical or wrong essay will prompt dozens of other writers co rise and respond, thus giving the author mounds of publicity. Yale professor Paul Kennedy had a distinguished but unglamorous career under his belt when he wrote The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers, predicting American decline. He was wrong, and hundreds of other commentators rose to say so, thus making him famous and turning his book into a bestseller. Francis Fukuyama wrote an essay called “The End of History,” which seemed wrong to people who read only the title. Thousands of essayists wrote pieces pointing out that history had not ended, and Fukuyama became a global sensation.

Hannah-Jones seems determined to take her fellow Timesperson’s advice to spectacular heights.

by Stephen Green

BIG TECH ON BIG TECH: Facebook criticizes Apple’s iOS privacy changes with full-page newspaper ads. “Developers will need to ask iOS 14 users for permission to gather data and track them across mobile apps and websites on an iPhone and iPad soon. Apple had planned to implement these changes with the initial iOS 14 release in September, but delayed enforcing them until early next year. These changes will impact Facebook’s ad business, and in particular its ad network for developers and businesses, as end users are more likely to opt out of tracking prompts.”

Actually, in the just-released iOS 14.3, end-users must opt in to app tracking.

Apps can’t even ask for permission to use tracking unless this new switch is set to on, and it’s set to off by default.

Apple’s motivation might be less about consumer privacy than it is about denying revenue to Facebook, but they have enhanced consumer privacy.

by Stephen Green

MOVING AT THE SPEED OF GOVERNMENT: The Orion spacecraft is now 15 years old and has flown into space just once.

Congress has pumped $23.7 billion into Orion for that single flight.

On the other hand:

SpaceX is generally considered one of the most efficient space companies. Founded in 2002, the company has received funding from NASA, the Department of Defense, and private investors. Over its history, we can reliably estimate that SpaceX has expended a total of $16 billion to $20 billion on all of its spaceflight endeavors. Consider what that money has bought:

• Development of Falcon 1, Falcon 9, and Falcon Heavy rockets
• Development of Cargo Dragon, Crew Dragon, and Cargo Dragon 2 spacecraft
• Development of Merlin, Kestrel, and Raptor rocket engines
• Build-out of launch sites at Vandenberg (twice), Kwajalein Atoll, Cape Canaveral, and Kennedy Space Center
• 105 successful launches to orbit
• 20 missions to supply International Space Station, two crewed flights
• Development of vertical take off, vertical landing, rapid reuse for first stages
• Starship and Super Heavy rocket development program
• Starlink Internet program (with 955 satellites on orbit, SpaceX is largest satellite operator in the world)

To sum up, SpaceX delivered all of that for billions of dollars less than what NASA has spent on the Orion program since its inception.

Impressive.
