Apparently I'm Not Playing Demon's Souls The 'Right Way'

by Patrick Klepek

Everyone on the internet is terrible.

I've never encountered a more tribal community of fans than worshippers of the Souls games. There may not be another game series where more people are ready to tell you how wrong you are. For me, the criticism began when I picked my class for a playthrough of Demon's Souls.

Evil Tender Presents: “In Reference”, an Incredible Exhibition in San Francisco This Weekend

by admin

This weekend, Evil Tender will present a new gallery show with an exceedingly inventive and refreshing premise. To sum it up, the folks behind the site commissioned photographer Holly Burnham and model Hattie Watson to create a series of breathtaking photographs. The images were then distributed to over twenty artists who used them for reference to create brand new works of art. This collection, featuring originals and prints by Ruben Ireland, Richey Beckett, We Buy Your Kids, Kilian Eng, and many more, will debut Friday from 7pm-10pm at San Francisco’s Gauntlet Gallery. The remaining pieces will go online next week (I will make a new post with sale info closer to the time). For those in the bay, get all info via EvilTender.com.

bonitaapplebelle:After Jessica Williams declared that she does...

Caseymalone

I really really hope this shit doesn't cause Jessica Williams to quit the Daily Show

bonitaapplebelle:

After Jessica Williams declared that she does not want to replace Jon Stewart, a journalist decided it to diagnose Williams with “imposter syndome” (the idea that a woman in a male dominated field doesn’t feel as if they’re not doing enough to be in said position) and this was Williams response.

LEGO Elves at New York Toy Fair 2015

by Derek
Caseymalone

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

It definitely looks like the LEGO Friends style minifig is here to stay. In addition to the Disney Princess sets, LEGO is now releasing yet another line based on this fig: LEGO Elves. LEGO is pushing Elves with a large model built for Toy Fair…

With a plethora of great colors and all-new hair sculpts, these sets look to have wide-ranging appeal. While the release date for these sets is March, according to our sources they’re already showing up in stores.

The Elves sets continue the Friends theme of lots of parts in new colors. As always, the prices are spread across a wide range, from Aira’s Creative Workshop at $9.99 to Skyra’s Mysterious Sky Castle at $79.99. That set is the big news from Toy Fair; while most of the sets will be out in March, Skyra’s Mysterious Sky Castle won’t be out until August.

Here is the full list of Elves sets:

41071 Aira’s Creative Workshop
41072 Naida’s Spa Secret
41073 Naida’s Epic Adventure Ship
41074 Azari and the Magical Bakery

41075 The Elves’ Treetop Hideaway
41076 Farran and the Crystal Hollow
41077 Aira’s Pegasus Sleigh
41078 Skyra’s Mysterious Sky Castle

Meet A Teenager Who Says He's A Swatter

by Patrick Klepek

1. This is fucked up!

2. Why were 60K people watching Runescape?!?

A Runescape player was recently swatted while 60,000 people watched . When he tried to record a video about it, he broke down crying. A 19-year-old in Las Vegas was arrested for coordinating a swatting in Illinois. What motivates someone to take this dangerous step? I tracked down a self-professed swatter to find out.

Matt Fraction starts ‘Fifty Shades of Futures Without Violence’ campaign

by Kiel Phegley
Caseymalone

Is 50 Shades actually harmful or is it just bad? A lot of sex-positive people I follow seem REALLY mad about this movie, but it's coming off as a frustration at this thing being so main-stream accepted when their shit has been stigmatized for so long. I genuinely have no idea which this is - I haven't read the book.

Matt Fraction starts ‘Fifty Shades of Futures Without Violence’ campaign

Writer Matt Fraction is no stranger to mixing a little bit of social activism into his comics work. But this weekend, the Hawkeye and Sex Criminals scribe is drawing attention to a charity not because of art he made but because of art he detests: Fifty Shades of Grey. The Scooby-Doo scoop at Toy Fair 2015

by Derek
Caseymalone

Yes I will buy these things.

As alluded to earlier, LEGO unveiled the 2015 line of Scooby-Doo sets at Toy Fair today. They’re slated to be released in August. While most folks have already seen a few things from the line, this was a chance to see the box art and get close-ups of the Mystery Inc gang, as well as their sweet 70’s hair:

The $89.99 Mystery Mansion has six minifigs and Scooby-Doo but is missing Fred …though perhaps we’re not actually missing him, amirite?

The Haunted Lighthouse is $49.99 and gives Shaggy and Daphne some alone time. Well, assuming you have Scoobs distract the two monsters for a while.

The Mystery Machine Escape has a great looking zombie, as well as a green-faced fellow to chase him, Shaggy, and Scooby (okay, that was quite a stretch for another anti-Fred joke, I can admit it). It’s $29.99 and you’ll need to buy this one and the Mystery Mansion to have the whole gang.

We’ve already pointed out the amazing Headless Horseman. Here’s another shot of the $19.99 set:

Finally, there’s the $14.99 Mummy Museum Mystery. It’s the cheapest way to get Scooby-Doo and Shaggy …and that’s about all there is to say about it.

Stay tuned for more from Toy Fair 2015!

Rescued Owl Ready to Fly

The young Morepork Owl was brought to the zoo in early December and cared for in the zoo’s unique Nest Te Kōhanga, a veterinary hospital dedicated to caring for New Zealand’s native fauna.  The little Owl now has his adult feathers and is ready to be released into the big wide world.  For the first two weeks of his release, he’ll live in an outdoor aviary run by a local sanctuary.  A lamp hanging outside the aviary will attract moths, allowing the Owl to practice his hunting skills.  After two weeks, the door will be opened and the Owl can choose to fly away or return for food if needed.

Morepork Owls are New Zealand’s only surviving native Owls, and live only in New Zealand and Tasmania.  They are also known by their Maōri name (Ruru) and Australian name (Boobook), both of which reflect the Owls' two-part calls.  These small owls live in forests and frequent urban parks.  They feed on large invertebrates such as caterpillars, beetles, and moths.

by Iain
Caseymalone

Shared not for the video, which is fucking awful, but for the opportunity to say that Epic Rap Battles of History is the worst, intellectually and creatively bankrupt, and often borderline racist.

For its Season 4 bout between the Greek god Zeus and the Norse god Thor, the hugely popular YouTube channel Epic Rap Battles of History turned to Forrest Whaley and his team of stop-motion animators to give it the LEGO treatment. And the result is hilarious! Make sure to check out the entertaining behind the scenes video too.

Me Grimlock not stupid

by Ralph

Considering all the rubbish TV shows I used to love as a child, I was undoubtedly very good at suspending my disbelief. However, even as a child I knew Dinobots make no sense whatsoever.

Grimlock: Dino and robot mode

I can understand that, for a robot of alien origin on Earth, the ability to turn yourself into a car and blend into a crowd might make some sort of sense. However, disguising yourself as a 15 ft. tall metallic dinosaur does not strike me as a particularly sensible way to become inconspicuous. I am also sure that their personalities irked me.

Sludge: Dino and Robot mode

Still, that does not mean Dinobots cannot be exceedingly cool as LEGO models, as shown by the tiny but fully transformable versions of Grimlock and Sludge built by Chief Supreme. I like the use of minifig headgear for the robots’ heads in particular. Dinobots may be stupid, but these are definitely clever.

Do not go gentle into that good night

by Iain
Caseymalone

I wasn't crazy about this movie but this is great.

Chris Nolan’s latest movie Interstellar is an epic adventure across time and space, accompanied by an equally epic and thunderous soundtrack by Hans Zimmer. It was by far the most enjoyable cinematic experience I’ve had since Nolan’s mind-bending 2010 masterpiece Inception.

It’s been fun watching various Interstallar-inspired builds emerge over the past few months, most of which – not that surprisingly – focus on the movie’s stylish Ranger spacecraft. But I think Taiwanese builder jp_velociraptor has just created the definitive version:

This is not simply a LEGO sculpture of the distinctive ship, it’s a complete play set! The model opens up to reveal a cockpit with room for all the explorers and one of their clunky robot companions (also shown below in “rescue mode”). Very impressive work indeed.

I heartily recommend that you see this movie. I won’t give anything away… but it’s as emotionally draining as it is visually and sonically mesmerizing. So I strongly suggest you bring a box of tissues with you to the movie theater ;-)
