System76's Pop!_OS COSMIC Desktop To Make Use Of Iced Rust Toolkit Rather Than GTK

System76 has been developing their own COSMIC desktop as the next evolution for their Pop!_OS Linux distribution built atop an Ubuntu base. Interestingly with this big COSMIC desktop undertaking, which is being written in the Rust programming language, they have decided to shift away from using the GTK toolkit to instead make use of Iced-Rs as a Rust-native, multi-platform graphical toolkit...

GNOME 43's Mutter Lands Max BPC Property Support To Deal With Monitor Issues

Earlier this summer was the patch series for GNOME's Mutter to make use of the Linux DRM/KMS "max BPC" property for the drivers exposing the maximum bits per color supported. That code has now been merged in time for next month's GNOME 43 release and in turn will help deal with some scenarios where users may encounter screen flickering, brief blackouts, and other problems related to available monitor bandwidth...

Did black holes form immediately after the Big Bang?

History of the Universe with primordial black holes

How did supermassive black holes form? What is dark matter? In an alternative model for how the Universe came to be, as compared to the ‘textbook’ history of the Universe, a team of astronomers propose that both of these cosmic mysteries could be explained by so-called ‘primordial black holes’.

[JFAMM] Começaram as demolições na Messa

by noreply@blogger.com (Hugo Nicolau)

News Post: PAX South Deadline & Call For Enforcers

by Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho)
Tycho: I would be remiss not to mention that if you purchase your PAX South Tickets by December 18th - this Sunday - said Tickets will be mailed straight to your house.  This is a profound convenience, and you can rest in the pillowed softness that is not picking up your tickets at Will Call. Also!  We still have need of skilled allies to undergo the ritual and become Enforcers at PAX South.  Will you heed the call? (CW)TB
