Talynebearhundreds of blimps.....this is the other FRINGE universe!!!

Amazon has just gotten a patent for an "airborne fulfillment center utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles for item delivery." Though the patent was granted in April 2016, the plans for it have just gone public on the US Patent and Trademark Office website. What they describe sounds like something out of a Philip K. Dick novel.
Here's how it works. First, get a very large airship and float it above a city. Then attach a giant warehouse full of Amazon items to the bottom (actually, you should probably attach this before the floating, but the patent is vague on this point). This warehouse is constantly restocked by smaller airships, which bring personnel and supplies from the ground, as well as carrying away waste. People on the ground use their computers to browse items currently floating over their heads, and order whatever they want. Then drones grab the items, hurl themselves out of the airship, and engage their rotors as they approach the ground. The human receives his or her item from the drone, and the drone ascends back up to its floating palace of boxes and workers.

The holiday shopping season may be officially over, but Amazon created another way for people to spend money before 2017 begins. The online retailer announced Digital Day, a 24-hour sales event on its website where you can save on all kinds of digital downloads including video games, movies, music, and comics. The event starts at 12am PST on Friday, December 30.
According to Amazon's Digital Day promotional page, savings will be as big as 80 percent off "hundreds" of video game titles, 75 percent off digital comics, and more. While details on specific deals have not yet been released, there are images of video game and movie titles including FIFA 17, Destiny, and The Lego Movie, as well as other items like Marvel comics and H&R Block tax software under an "Upcoming Deals" header. Those savings will go live when the event starts, and Amazon may structure Digital Day like Prime Day, which occurred in July, where different deals go live on Amazon.com at various times of the day.
Amazon is pushing Digital Day as a way to stock up on digital content for all your devices, including your smartphone, tablet, Kindle e-reader, and the like. Amazon likely wants to have another big sales day akin to Prime Day before the start of 2017, to test how well-received a post-Christmas deals event would be. Like any retailer, Amazon has discounted items before Christmas to attract holiday shoppers, but those deals end when the shopping season ends. Digital Day could be a way for Amazon to see how many customers want to spend a bit more after Christmas, particularly those who received new smartphones, tablets, and e-readers as gifts and now want to stock up on digital content.

The new home of the former CyanogenMod community.
Cyanogen Inc., the company built around the CyanogenMod open source Android OS ROM project, declined a acquisition offer by Google two years ago as it sought a $1 billion valuation. Now, the company has shut down its namesake open source development project and all its related services. Defiant CyanogenMod developers have now seized the project and relaunched it under the name LineageOS.
On December 23, a Cyanogen Inc. spokesperson posted a notice on the company’s blog:
As part of the ongoing consolidation of Cyanogen, all services and Cyanogen-supported nightly builds will be discontinued no later than 12/31/16. The open source project and source code will remain available for anyone who wants to build CyanogenMod personally.
The move came just a week after the CyanogenMod development community released the final versions of CyanogenMod 13.0 and on the heels of the departure of Cyanogen Inc. co-founder and the founder of the development project itself, Steve “cyanogen” Kondik. The shutdown is essentially a death sentence for the CyanogenMod project, since the project’s infrastructure was supported by the services being shut down.

Somehow, it seemed appropriate to post this on Christmas day. I’m in no way a religious person, but the text definitely made me chuckle. Merry Christmas everyone, and don’t forget: Try to not do the things today and be nice to others people. And if you already did the things, stop doing them.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I still have a lot of things to do before people start arriving here.

As you can see from my Portal Tetris and Super Mario Bothers creations, I am pretty well-versed in Flash. Unfortunately, this comic is pretty damn accurate. Nowadays, the only time I find myself using the product is for animations. It still excels in that department, though I still won't go upgrade past CS6, because that's when they quit supporting Actionscript 2.0.
