Tom WrightIt's perfect.
Han Solo and Leia Organa are one of my favorite couples in all of science fiction. All of anything ever, actually. I even like them when they’re gender swapped, and C&C Cosplay did a great job mixing up the duo as A New Hope Han and Slave Leia. They couldn’t be more adorable.

Tom WrightMollySticks: Is Raven awesome? Why or why not?
In the latest episode of Cartoon Network’s Teen Titans Go!, Robin wishes the Titans were more like his toy marionettes and the Puppet Wizard grants his wish. Uh-oh. The result is that Robin, Beast Boy, Raven, Cyborg, and Starfire are all transformed, and they used practical puppets instead of CGI for the effect. I’m not sure it would be cost effective, but I bet Teen Titans puppets would fly off shelves at Comic-Con.
See more photos and a clip showing the puppets in action after the break.

Tom WrightAww yay-uh.
This is a work blog, I know, but I hope you can forgive me from making a personal announcement:
It’s Molly’s and my baby announcement. Don’t worry, I hear babies are great for authors’ productivity. More books for everyone!
Tom WrightI love Honest Trailers. They're so... honest.
This week marks the 20th anniversary of the Disney animated classic “The Lion King.” Relive the music, the lion lovin’, and the heartbreak that scarred a generation of children. Hakuna matata!!
Tom WrightThis just might be the answer to our Zoe problem.
A device that allows a dog to play catch and fetch by itself! Now how brilliant is that? :)

Tom WrightI couldn't watch it all the way through, but that's super-funny.
One’s man’s layover can be another person’s treasure.
Now, I’ve been to McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas and it is not at all very far from the Strip, so why this Richard Dunn chap didn’t just leave the airport when he learned about his overnight layover I don’t know, but…for all our joys, I’m glad he didn’t.

Tom WrightI loved the Animorphs series.
Loved it.

Tom WrightPretty scary...
Tom WrightI love Bane Cat.

Previously, Bane Cat had tortured his owner enough that the evil cat had been put up for sale. Bane Cat did not approve. Now he’s back, still for sale, but with a plan for vengeance. He’s not alone this time, and that spells trouble for his poor owner. When cats team up, you don’t even stand a chance.

Tom WrightThank goodness Lego is finally getting its act together.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrmRxGLn0Bk
Lego has officially selected the next Lego Ideas (formerly Lego Cuusoo) project that will see its way to production, and the female scientists minifig set is the winner! This set, officially called “Research Institute”, will feature a paleontologist, astronomer, and chemist along with their assorted equipment. The folks at Lego did already create a female scientist minifig, but this is the first time the idea has been translated into a whole set. Expect to it on store shelves in August.

Tom WrightGood thing Mallory isn't on The Old Reader, or she wouldn't have anymore money after she saw this.
Disney stores sell Disney princess tiaras, but they’re just inexpensive costume pieces with plastic parts. What if they made real gem or crystal covered metal tiaras for each of the princesses? Tumblr user Eclectic Charms has plenty of ideas for them. She’s designed a collection of elaborate tiaras and crowns inspired by the likes of Elsa, Rapunzel, Snow White, and more. She hopes that Disney or another official source will take interest and work with her to create actual products soon.
Check out more glittering crowns after the break.

Tom WrightAugh! Molly, there's an octopus in your hair!
Steampunk just got a little fancier thanks to this inventive octopus hair design by Kirstie Williams. She was attending a steampunk ball and wanted to fancy up her outfit with a funky wig, so she made a hairpiece that looks like an octopus. Naturally. She used a foam sphere as the core of the octopus and covered it in hair wefts very carefully. It looks like an elaborate process, but given the cool result, I’m sure she’s glad she put so much thought into making the hairpiece.

Tom WrightGet it? Because it really is a huge fan? Get it?
It's not funny if I have to explain it to you.
Tom WrightI dig this comic.
Tom WrightThis is awesome. I'm just listening to it in the background now.
All of the English dialogue in “Star Wars”, split into words, and sorted alphabetically.
Fun facts:
The word “lightsaber” only appears once in this film.
There are 43m5s of spoken English, 81m39s of other.
The most common word is “the”, of course, said 368 times.
The word with most screen time is “you”, at 52.56 seconds.
There are 1695 different words, and 11684 total words.
The longest words are “responsibility,” “malfunctioning”, “worshipfulness”, and “identification”, all 14 letters.
Tom WrightMolly, you love this dress.
This dress is made entirely out of several years worth of the bags they hand out to Comic-Con attendees. It’s the creation of DeviantArtist Bandoodie who is, unsurprisingly, a huge fan of the convention. She made it using a Butterick dress pattern and then wore the creation to the con that served as inspiration.

Tom WrightI expect we'll see these in Emily's hair pretty soon...
You’ll always know exactly where your dragons are with these dragon hair clips. Each is handmade from resin by Etsy seller Aisha Voya then air-brushed, painted and sealed. You can get your dragons in a variety of colors and even work with her to create a one-of-a-kind dragon of your own design. She’s also got a little griffin hair clip for those days when the dragons need a break.

Tom Wright“I made myself, Ron,” Harry said firmly.
It's beautiful.
Imagine a world where Ayn Rand penned the Harry Potter books you know and love. You might not love them anymore. A writer at The Toast, Mallory Ortberg, put together a sample of what the stories could be like. Instead of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, it would be Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Objectivism. They’re funny because they’re spot on.
Here are a couple of our favorite passages:
“You’re a wizard, Harry,” Hagrid said. “And you’re coming to Hogwarts.”
“What’s Hogwarts?” Harry asked.
“It’s wizard school.”
“It’s not a public school, is it?”
“No, it’s privately run.”
“Good. Then I accept. Children are not the property of the state; everyone who wishes to do so has the right to offer educational goods or services at a fair market rate. Let us leave at once.”
And this one:
Harry and Ron stood before the Mirror of Erised. “My God,” Ron said. “Harry, it’s your dead parents.”
Harry’s eyes flicked momentarily over to the mirror. “So it is. This information is neither useful nor productive. Let us leave at once, to assist Hagrid in his noble enterprise of raising as many dragon eggs as he sees fit, in spite of our country’s unjust dragon-trading restrictions.”
“But it’s your parents, Harry,” Ron said. Ron never really got it.
Harry sighed. “The fundamental standard for all relationships is the trader principle, Ron.”
“I don’t understand,” Ron said.
“Of course you don’t,” said Harry affectionately. “This principle holds that we should interact with people on the basis of the values we can trade with them – values of all sorts, including common interests in art, sports or music, similar philosophical outlooks, political beliefs, sense of life, and more. Dead people have no value according to the trader principle.”
“But they gave birth to y–”
“I made myself, Ron,” Harry said firmly.

Maleficent, Ursula, Cruella and the Evil Queen have a point: what if we begin seeing things from their perspective? What if Disney Villains are just misunderstood?

UPDATE: The contest is concluded. Thanks for participating, and congrats to the winners!
UPDATE: I’m posting the winners here. But don’t let that stop you from signing up, there are still more games!
Short story: Join my sci-fi/fantasy book e-mail list for a chance to win a free board game. Here’s the link to join: http://eepurl.com/Cnu8X
Long story: Michael Mindes, of Tasty Minstrel Games, released a youtube video a while back about how to create an audience for board game publishers.
Then, at the beginning of the year, I noticed this blog post on Reddit: Why I’m Giving Away $2014 in Board Games
It got me thinking about my own audience, except as an author instead of a board game publisher. I have several games I could give away like Michael Mindes did, and I think there is a healthy overlap between board game hobbyists and people who read sci-fi/fantasy.
So here I go. If you’re interested in both board games AND sci-fi/fantasy books, then this is the perfect place for you. Sign up for my e-mail list here, and you’ll get a chance to win a free board game. And you’ll be on my e-mail list for new book releases. I have a Kickstarter going right now, and more books coming soon. It’s pretty exciting, and I want you to be a part of it.
A few things: I will not trade or sell your e-mail. Nor will I spam you. I’ll send out e-mails to announce new releases and contests, or news about the company.
Several of the games were donated to my wife’s convention last year, so they have a sticker on the cover advertising Critshappen.com. So we get more shelf space for new donations for her convention, and more advertising for Tox of Crits Happen. And more games for you. A win-win-win.
I’ll hold a drawing once a week (starting June 9th) from the list of names, and I’ll send you an e-mail for your physical address if you win. You can only win once. If you don’t win, your name will still be in the next drawing.
To the games. Below is the list of available games to win. Remember to sign up here for eligibility: http://eepurl.com/Cnu8X

These beautiful batman coffee tables were made by artist Charles Lushear from Bohemian Workbench, and unfortunately, they’re not for sale. Bohemian Workbench has plenty of other great stuff available at their Etsy store though, including a few NES controller tables that would look totally dashing in my living room.

#YesAllWomen rose to trending on Twitter this past weekend after the world learned of a shooting spree on the University of California, Santa Barbara campus. The suspect, now dead, killed six and left behind horrifying video evidence in which he credits his hatred for women as motivation for murder. We’ve collected a few essays and personal declarations made by individuals online in the wake of the news.
