10E2165: Internet Archive

by james at 10engines

The Internet Archive (who, for the common good, copy all of our websites and save them - making them searchable) perhaps not well known by everyone - or those outside the library and computer fields. Incredibly important work. Great short doc about it here featuring founder Brewster Kahle. The Wayback Machine? It is them. And they also scan books, a lot of books, they love books. They are chasing the dream of creating universal access to, well, everything... These are the good guys.

This is an aspect of librarianship in 21stC, pretty damn sexy.
"Archive is a documentary focused on the future of long-term digital storage, the history of the Internet and attempts to preserve its contents on a massive scale.
Part one features Brewster Kahle, founder of the Internet Archive and his colleagues Robert Miller, director of books, and Alexis Rossi, director of web collections. On a mission to create universal access to all knowledge, the Internet Archive’s staff have built the world's largest online library, offering 10 petabytes of archived websites, books, movies, music, and television broadcasts.
The video includes a tour of the Internet Archive’s headquarters in San Francisco, the book scanning center, and the book storage facilities in Richmond, California.
Directed by Jonathan Minard"

Django Django – WOR

by scudamor

New video clip “WOR” by British rock group Django Django featuring some of the craziest motorcycle riders you will ever see. Quote from the official video page…

“Mercury music prize nominees Django Django became obsessed by the infamous Indian Well of Death riders in Allahabad. So, naturally, they asked Noisey if we’d be up for travelling over to India and standing right in the middle of large lumps of precariously speeding metal for a day, to film a video for their track “Wor”. We happily obliged, getting our shoes stolen in the process, but it was worth it to meet a bunch of guys with the most rock solid testicles we’ve ever come across.”
