Musk accelerates push for X 'everything app' with plans for job listings and address books
Elon Musk has pushed for X, formerly known as Twitter, to compete with the broader app market by adding job listings and audio calls to its growing list of functions as part of his "everything app" strategy.
Musk promoted multiple updates on Thursday involving his vision for X and its future as an "everything app." Musk has been eager to turn X from a social media platform into a tool that can be used for most aspects of everyday life. He has indicated he hopes to expand those features to include audio/video calls, as well as tools to compete with the job-focused social network LinkedIn.
"People send me LinkedIn links sometimes, but the cringe level is so high that I just can't bring myself to use it, so I ask for the resume or bio to be emailed," Musk posted. "We will make sure that the X competitor to LinkedIn is cool."
Musk alluded to adding such a feature in May, and the company also purchased the job-matching startup Laskie for an undisclosed sum.
That product expansion may correlate with Musk's desire to increase data collection at the company. X updated its privacy policy to include the collection of data related to users' jobs and education. It also requested biometric data for "safety, security, and identification purposes." The biometric data would only be collected from premium users and would allow them to provide their government ID for identity verification, according to an X spokesperson.
X will also have video and audio calls coming to the app in the future, according to Musk. This system would work on iOS, Android, Mac, and PC. It would not require users to have a phone number and would be an "effective global address book." If this feature does come to pass, it could allow Musk to compete with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and offer an alternative to the private messaging app WhatsApp.
X's premium users also now have the ability to hide their "Likes" tab on their profile so that the content is not visible to the public. The feature was released months after Musk was blasted on Twitter by some users for liking a tweet featuring content from the anime Death Note.
Musk has been pushing changes to X at an accelerated rate in the last few weeks. On Aug. 18, he said he would remove the ability to block users. The billionaire also said he would remove headlines from news articles on the platform, making the details of the story harder to determine at a glance. He also throttled several links to competitors and news outlets that have published critical coverage of him.
Musk has pushed for turning X into an "everything app" similar to China's WeChat since before he owned the company. He has taken initial steps for it to operate as an online transaction platform, improved visual hosting, enhanced direct messages, and added other features. The company will need to resolve its income problems, as it has seen its ad revenue drop by 50% in the last year.

Despite its name, Tesla’s Full Self-Driving technology is not actually fully self-driving. Both FSD and Autopilot require the constant supervision of the driver with eyes on the road and hands on the wheel; the car is designed to “nag” the driver if and when that supervision lags. If the driver repeatedly ignores this nag, the feature could be disabled permanently.
But The Street reported in June that there exists a configuration hidden within Tesla’s software that doesn’t have this nag. Nicknamed “Elon Mode,” this iteration of self-driving was discovered by a hacker who then drove 600 miles with it enabled.
The hacker’s experiment with “Elon Mode” went viral, eventually catching the attention of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The regulatory agency sent Tesla a letter and special order on July 26, demanding more details about “Elon Mode,” including the number of cars that have access to it.
The special order additionally requested a step-by-step rundown of how to enable the configuration, as well as Tesla’s “basis or purpose in installing the software in consumer vehicles.”
The NHTSA posted the letter and special order on its website Aug. 29.
I’m curious whether Elon Mode does anything other than disable the nags. If so, maybe it’s a useful development tool for Full Self-Driving. If not, it looks like another case of begging for trouble.
homeschooling or school choice have their own "issues" that I have never seen discussed. 1) School choice doesn't address "all the kids' friends". 2) Homeschool is always uber christian. Both nice, but problematic.

If this discussion was supposed to be about a hurricane, they misspelled TORE. It's a three hour slug fest packed with tense awkward moments, brutal exchanges, constant interruptions and ad hominum personal attacks. It's either impossible to listen to, or the best take down and dismantling you have ever heard about Q, the origins, psyop deflection and a lying grifter actively spreading disinformation. It's Tore versus the tag team of Michael Raye Koury with Austin Steinbart whispering in his ear. The convo start is almost normal, even civil, because Khoury is briefly absent. On his return however, sparks quickly start to fly. With heated and passionate exchanges, controlling moderator Dustin's mute button restrains the combatants like a Q-Tip mops up a tsunami. It's Tore's passion and knowledge versus their weak bullshit. Profanity laced, rapid fire, with cryptic references to alpha agencies included, the beat down goes on for two hours plus. Our pummeled moderator Dustin is repeatedly drug from the ring bloody, dazed and bruised. The abrupt, F-bomb ending serves as a shining example of a podcast totally exploding. They never had a chance. They underestimated Tore.
Back in the 1990s I had a first-generation Mitsubishi Eclipse sports car. The design was excellent, the handling was good, it was fast by the standards of the day (that is, a slug by the standards of today, but a rocket by the standards of the late 70s.) The interior was nice, the only downside was that it didn’t run worth a damn. When I was on my third engine before 50,000 miles I gave up and replaced it with a Mazda MX-6, which had all its virtues and none of its vices. The Mitsu people were fine about honoring the warranty, and even said they’d take care of me past the 50,000 mile mark if needed, but I was over it. I was just grateful that the first engine blowup waited until I got home from my cross-country drive, instead of stranding me in the middle of US 50 across Nevada.
