Americans Pro-Legal Pot for the First Time Ever
It's been a big year for pot, with the states of Washington and Colorado both legalizing the drug for recreational use and many more proposing legalization or already allowing it for medical reasons (or just looking the other way). And now, for the first time ever, a majority of Americans are in favor of weed's full legalization.

New Graphic Novel Re-Invents Superman as Clueless 12-Year-Old Kid
Think about it: a Superman-style superhero built for today. The whole savior-from-the-sky bit is crucial but everything else about the character would have to be almost completely different, no? More vulnerable. Less omniscient. More fashionable. Yet, for him to act with all that outsize brashness and altruism, he couldn’t be an adult. He’d have to be a kid. That’s what you’re getting in Battling Boy.

Genetic analysis shows that the Yeti was actually a polar bear hybrid
Aw, shucks. Science goin’ off and ruining everything again for cryptozoologists. The latest blow comes from a UK geneticist who says hair samples from an alleged Yeti, or Abominable Snowman, actually came from another — albeit real — creature from the north: an ancient hybrid between polar bears and brown bears.
Top 25 Toll Road Violators are from the Austin area
DarendukesHoly shit. People be owin mad ca$h yo!
Moving forward with its initiative to collect millions of dollars in unpaid tolls, the Texas Department of Transportation today reminds habitual toll violators to pay up. To "Shame" the violators, their names have been released. Authority to publicly report the names of violators was provided by Senate Bill 1792 in an effort to collect more than $27 million in unpaid tolls.
The primary targets for collection are the 28,000 vehicle owners who each have at least 100 unpaid tolls. Some of these offenders have vehicles with thousands of toll violations, which add up to money intended to be used to pay debt and fund operations on these roads. Published listings of toll violators will include the violator’s name, city and state of residence, number of unpaid tolls and total amount owed in tolls and fees.
In addition to publishing the list of top violators, TxDOT also has the authority to:
- Ban vehicles from using TxDOT toll roads with Texas Transportation Commission approval. If stopped by law enforcement, vehicles in violation of the ban can be ticketed and impounded.
- Report the habitual violators to county tax assessor-collectors to potentially block the renewal of the vehicle’s registration.
Motorists with unpaid toll violations should immediately contact the TxTag Customer Service Center at (888) 468-9824 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. weekdays. A negotiated settlement amount may be offered as well as a payment plan, if needed.

Newest science text books will teach evolution
It appears the latest round of fighting over how evolution will be taught in Texas schools is over. The newest text books are getting a thumbs up from the Texas Freedom Network, a group that supports the teaching of Evolution.
They're against including theories like Intelligent Design in the biology books, believing it's not science and it's intended to dilute the importance of theory of evolution. The Network's Dan Quinn says their scientists approve of the latest versions of the biology books. The process isn't over, the next step is more approvals.

Receipts of vodka purchases by Rosemary Lehmberg are released
DarendukesGod damn that is a lot of vodka.
Receipts of vodka purchases by District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg show she bought a lot of vodka before getting arrested for drunk driving last April.
The receipts from Twin Liquor stores all over town show Lehmberg purchased 72 bottles - or 23 gallons - of vodka on her credit card over a 16 month period. The receipts were subpoenaed by attorneys preparing a civil case against her. Attorney Kerry O'Brien has been pushing for Lehmberg to step down office over the arrest. The County Attorney is in charge of that case now. O'Brien is keeping an eye on the case and says she bought the booze at seven different liquor stores across the city - purchasing booze at new stores every two weeks or so. The booze was purchased with a credit card with her name on it. He says he released the booze receipts in an effort to prevent Lehmberg and her supporters from pretending a problem doesn't exist. Lehmberg did receive 'treatment' following her arrest - but it was not specified what kind of help that was.
