This Dad Made An Excellent And Completely Adorable Tutorial For Properly Fighting Your Baby

Philip.paulsson

I couldn't listen to the audio at work, but the video is still pretty hilarious without it. I just imagine this dude has a thick irish/scottish accent a la Fat Bastard and he keeps taunting the baby while he kicks its ass.

Here are some simple techniques every parent can use to defend themselves!

Gavin McInnes made this excellent rundown of some of the best techniques for fighting a baby.

youtube.com

Babies are small, which means they're easy to throw.

And yes, you can always tickle them, which is another good method of defense.

But according to McInnes, the best way to subdue a baby is wind. They can't handle it when you blow in their face.

Twitch cracks down on 'non-gaming' broadcasts by PlayStation 4 owners

by Matt Brian
Philip.paulsson

Hah! They should totally do an age verification thing and have a +18 Twitch version instead of going around banning accounts. They could revolutionize amateur porn!

Faced with an influx of living-room livestreamers and the risqué content that follows, Twitch has begun a crackdown on PlayStation 4 streams. The company has taken to its Twitter account to remind users that broadcasting via the console's Playroom feature, which uses Sony's PlayStation Eye camera to stream to Twitch and uStream, must have a gaming focus or risk having their account suspended. Most users, including the husband and wife team behind The Spartan Show, have kept within Twitch's terms of service, but others have decided the console provides the perfect platform to broadcast sexual content and host non-gaming shows. While Sony already offers the broadcasting service, Xbox One owners will have to wait until "early 2014" to stream their games -- either way, Twitch will have quite the job on its hands as gamers test the limits of their new all-seeing consoles.

Cristiano Ronaldo's Insane Hat Trick Carries Portugal To The World Cup

Philip.paulsson

Fuck you, Ronaldo.

This guy can’t be human.

When two of the sport's most dominant scorers meet with their respective countries' World Cup hopes resting firmly on their shoulders, fans should expect a show, but what Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic did this afternoon was nothing short of amazing.

Martin Rose / Getty

With Portugal carrying a 1-0 lead in aggregate goals heading into the second leg, the Swedes knew they needed to finish regulation winning by a one-goal margin to send the game to overtime — and a two-goal margin to advance to Brazil. After a scoreless first half, Ronaldo opened the scoring with a strike in the 49th minute — giving Portugal a 1-0 lead, and more importantly, a 2-0 aggregate advantage.

Farmers markets (heck, even supermarkets) are overrun with wild mushrooms this time of year. Wild mushrooms can be intimidating and expensive . They’re worth it. But if you’re going to spend $20 on a bag of chanterelles, you should understand how to cook them.

FCC reportedly proposing that passengers can use cellular service in mid-flight (update: confirmed)

by Jon Fingas
Philip.paulsson

Woah now FCC. Let's not go nuts here. The last thing I want is people gabbing all up on their phones when I'm trying to sleep on my 15hrs flight to Shanghai next week.

Device use on a plane

While the FAA has cleared the use of electronics on US passenger airplanes at all stages of flight, there's still one major restriction in place: you have to shut off all cellular access. That rule may not exist for much longer if the FCC has its way, according to sources for the Wall Street Journal. The agency will reportedly use its December meeting to propose letting passengers make phone calls and use cellular data whenever they're flying above 10,000 feet. Don't be too eager to start chatting in mid-air, though. The FCC hasn't publicly confirmed the proposal, and any new policy wouldn't be mandatory -- carriers could still ask for radio silence, and special equipment would need to be installed in order for each plane to communicate with towers on the ground. If implemented, though, the relaxed rules could make your phone's airplane mode seem like more of a relic than a necessity.

Update: Chairman Tom Wheeler has issued a statement about the earlier report:

"Today, we circulated a proposal to expand consumer access and choice for in-flight mobile broadband. Modern technologies can deliver mobile services in the air safely and reliably, and the time is right to review our outdated and restrictive rules. I look forward to working closely with my colleagues, the FAA, and the airline industry on this review of new mobile opportunities for consumers.

PlayStation 4 or Xbox One: Which game console to buy this holiday

by Ben Gilbert
Philip.paulsson

Wow, they actually chose one! Though I bet their next article will be "What's a better game/home theater system?" with the other answer.

Today is the day: Xbox One is available in at least 13 territories. The PlayStation 4 launched last Friday to massive sales. The next-gen is officially on, having kicked off last year with Nintendo's Wii U. Don't believe us? We even reviewed all three!

Of course, Nintendo's not playing the same game that Microsoft and Sony are. The latter two are pushing serious horsepower and attempting to woo gamers with the promise of very pretty games and gameplay streaming, while Nintendo's pursing a second-screen input approach. As such, it's Microsoft's and Sony's new consoles that we're here to examine today -- the two big console makers that are taking each other on directly in the decades-long battle for the living room.

NHL Goalie Makes Spectacular Bicycle Kick Save

Is this already the save of the year?

During the first period of Wednesday night's Columbus-Calgary game, Flames goaltender Reto Berra made a ridiculous save to stop a sure-fire goal from Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson.

As you can see, Johnson took just a little too long to get the shot off, allowing Berra time to slide over and, well, make a split-second reaction save.

Which just so happened to be a soccer-style bicycle kick.

Unfortunately, the Flames ended up losing 2-1 in overtime, but who cares? That save was ridiculous!

Winamp, the media player of your college years, is shutting down next month

by Sarah Silbert
Philip.paulsson

Heh, so I'm guessing I'm probably the last person who still actually uses Winamp. Guess it's time to switch to iTunes.

Winamp, the AOL-owned mp3 player of yore, will close up shop for good on December 20th, which means you have exactly one month from today to use the service -- if you're still using it, that is. In addition to shutting down Winamp.com, AOL and co. will no longer offer downloads of the media player. It's hardly a surprising announcement, but it's a slightly glum one considering Winamp's popularity in the late nineties and early aughts. Go ahead, you have our permission to get nostalgic for a moment or two.

Facebook Data Reveals How Weirdly Racist We Are When It Comes To Online Dating

Apparently, though, Asian women are preferred by everyone.

Every Death In "Game Of Thrones", Visualised

An employee at a U.K. branch of Waterstones put a marker in every page on which a death occurs, proving just how ruthless George RR Martin is.

Via Twitter: @WaterstonesDork

With help from this fansite thread, we make that 284 deaths in the Song Of Ice And Fire books so far.

A Game Of Thrones - 54.
A Clash Of Kings - 72.
A Storm Of Swords - 97.
A Feast For Crows - 23.
A Dance With Dragons - 38.

Which is just yet more evidence to support the view of George RR Martin as the biggest troll in literature.

Recon reworks its heads-up display tech with the Snow2

by Joseph Volpe
Philip.paulsson

If I went skiing more than once or twice a year, I would totally get one of these.

We still have to wait and see what wearable fruit Intel's investment in Recon will bear -- and by "fruit," we mean Google Glass competitor. In the meantime, Recon's got a new HUD display for fans of snow on mountains and hurtling down said mountains. Just don't call the Snow2 a refresh or an update. According to Recon, it's a revision of its last HUD tech for skiers and snowboarders, although just like last time out, this improved HUD's made to work with Oakley, Uvex, Alpina, Scott and other ski wear makers. The device's internals have been beefed up with a dual-core CPU, support for WiFi a/b/g/n, better battery (about 35 percent longer-lasting) and a dedicated GPU for improved graphics visibility. The real beauty of Recon's new HUD, which is available sans goggles for $400, is the data it beams straight to your face. Everything from stats on your downhill performance to slope navigation and even the location of friends can be viewed on the display. The Snow2's made to work with both Android and iOS, but its "Made for iPhone" certification means you're better off shredding the gnar with an iDevice in pocket.
