Owen Pallett released two videos for "On A Path" and "The Riverbed" from his upcoming album, In Conflict.

According to T Magazine, the Steve Kado-created video for "On A Path" features items the director photographed in the Oscar nominee's home, over the course of a week.

Further personalizing these releases is the appearance of Pallett's uncle, Jim Pallett in the "The Riverbed" video. The actor is also hilarious and fiercely defensive of his nephew on Twitter.

While neither of these songs sound like potential big hits, they both demonstrate the Oscar-nominated artist's knack for composing earworms.

I use only natural fibers for my clothing line, and I especially love silk.  It's one of the most comfortable, long-wearing and versatile fabrics out there.  The trouble is, I'm not a fan of the glossy finish and crisp hand of most silk weaves - I much prefer the look and feel of matte, sand-washed silk.    When you buy sand-washed silk from the fabric store (if you can find it, most hobby and craft stores don't carry it) it has been treated just as the name indicates - the fabric has been washed in large machines with sand.  The abrasive treatment softens the fiber and removes the sheen, giving it a lustrous but matte appearance.  It is a hard fabric to find, though, and I've only ever found it available for purchase in NYC's garment district.

But, if you like the look of sand-washed silk, it's surprisingly easy to achieve at home.  All you need is your silk yardage, a washing machine, and one extra ingredient - Soda Ash fixer, a chemical used for fabric dyeing.  The soda ash slightly damages the silk fibers - not enough to weaken the fabric, but enough the take off the shine and give it a wonderfully soft, sueded feel.  I've had good results using this process on Crepe de Chine, Habotai, and Dupioni - but you could use it on any type of silk.  To get the most matte results, I recommend using a crepe, as it's not very shiny to begin with.  You can find these fabrics at most good fabric stores, as well as online in a variety of colors.  I like Dharma Trading for solid blacks and whites and Fabric Mart for colors.

1. Start your washing machine.  Use the hottest water possible, and use an appropriate setting for the amount of fabric you're treating.  I usually do a "Normal Size" load with about 8 yards of fabric.

2.  Add your soda ash.  I use about 1/2 cup of soda ash per load.  If you're doing a smaller than normal load, use less, and if you're doing a larger load, use a little more.  You want to be sure not to overdo it so you don't weaken your silk too much.  You want the soda ash to dissolve completely in the hot water before you put your silk in.  Stick your hand in the water and swish it around, making sure all the powder is gone.

3.  Add your fabric, and let the machine run through the wash.

4.  For extra credit, and super soft silk, stop your machine during the rinse cycle and add in a dab of commercial grade fabric softener, Milsoft.  This will reduce static cling, and give your fabric a luxuriously soft feel.

5.  Tumble dry your silk until completely dry, this should only take about 15 minutes as silk dries very quickly.

6.  Enjoy your gorgeous new sand-washed silk! As a bonus, your silk (and any garment you sew from it) is now machine washable and shouldn't undergo any additional shrinkage or texture change.  Just don't wash on hot again - use cool water and the gentle cycle to maintain its current feel.

Break out the Bolly sweeties!  There is indeed something to celebrate in these waning days of winter. NARS and Marc Jacobs have made a quantum leap into the future of beauty in their decision to hire two women who have been worshipped since they were young.

Charlotte Rampling, 68,will be the face of NARS. Jessica Lange, 64, will be the face of Marc Jacobs.

For seasoned women, women who threw caution to the winds in the 60’s and 70’s and lived a life where they took chances, and as they were doing that, remembered to put on some lippy, seeing the divine Miss Lange and the supreme Miss Rampling in every magazine from New York to Timbuktu will be a triumph of age over youth.

Seniors they are not.  And while we’re at it let’s banish that hateful word to describe women over fifty.  Ramplng and Lange are goddesses as are we.
