kissingcullens: I like “Steve Rogers destroys Fox News” prompts as much as the next gull, but...

kissingcullens:

I like “Steve Rogers destroys Fox News” prompts as much as the next gull, but consider:
Steve is kind of a goofball, to be honest- I feel like he’d probably flub planned speaking events and be reduced to a stammering mess or be silent with rage in the face of bullshit.

But the Falcon, aka Sam Wilson, becomes a frequent speaker on news shows, bringing his relatable, easy charm, his compassion, and his assertive, take-no-bullshit fire to a public forum.

He becomes famous as the Falcon; usually seen with Captain America (self-proclaimed “My name’s not “And The Falcon”)
and then as an Avenger, and then as a public speaker who often weighs in on current events, bringing his personal experiences into it and considering it a responsibility to use his high profile well.

Imagine Sam debating some conservative bonehead goes viral:
Sam has a gift for devastating comebacks and witty rejoinders in addition to his eloquence and intelligence, and he takes America by storm.

(Steve thinks he’s WONDERFUL, but Steve always thinks that- his crush doesn’t need any more fuel)

Deadbeat rancher Cliven Bundy's wild cows are reportedly starving; Nevada and BLM have yet to act

by rss@dailykos.com (Jen Hayden)

Deadbeat rancher Cliven Bundy has long been criticized for the “management” of his herd of cattle. The Justice Department noted that his hands-off approach to the herd was borderline cruelty:

The Justice Department describes Bundy's ranching operation as negligent to the point of cruelty in sending half-wild cattle to graze illegally on protected lands without supervision. Unvaccinated and susceptible to illness, the cattle have little contact with humans and Bundy often has no idea where they are, the government said.

The cattle were left out during harsh winters, according to the Justice Department memo, their lives coming down to "fighting off predators and scrounging for the meager amounts of food and water available in the difficult and arid terrain that comprises the public lands" in the Nevada desert.

With winter behind us and the calendar well into the spring months, Bundy’s cows are still roaming the Nevada desert. Untreated, unvaccinated and with very little food or water. Due to Bundy’s negligent “management” over time, the herd has grown from 150 cattle to an estimated 1,000 cattle. And many are apparently slowly starving to death in the Nevada desert.

worldfeminism:

why do people always pull hip-hop and rap as a misogynist area of music? yes, many rappers are misogynistic, but it’s not the only genre. let’s talk about country music, about the preacher’s daughter trope, the cutoff jeans, the get-her-drunk mentality; let’s talk about pop music, about the drugs and the clubs and the possessive “love songs”; let’s talk about alternative music, about “she’s not like other girls” and the manic pixie dream girl; let’s talk about classical music, about the exclusion of women now and in history.

let’s talk about how everyone’s first reaction is to villainize a primarily black genre before criticizing literally anyone else.

fire-is-her-water:

I keep seeing this fucking argument about trans people using bathrooms like “Well if that had been an option for me back in the day I totally would’ve signed up as a ‘trans-whatever’ to get into the girls’ locker room back in high school”  (Yeah, the fuckwit on FB I saw earlier actually said ‘trans-whatever’).

Like, you really, genuinely think that you, as a 16 year old presumably straight teenage boy would have changed your name, requested everyone you know call you by different pronouns, changed your entire wardrobe and look, went to school presenting yourself as a girl, dealt with the bullshit you would likely have gotten from your parents, family, friends, classmates, teachers, doctors, neighbors, people on the street, and rearranged your entire life…

Because you maybe, might have possibly caught a glimpse of a titty in the locker room?

Yeah, it’s clearly the trans people we should be worried about.

I always find it interesting that they seem to think that declaring “Given the opportunity I absolutely would have been a sexual predator” is a defense of their position.

I always find it interesting that they seem to think that declaring “Given the opportunity I absolutely would have been a sexual predator” is a defense of their position.

I am just going to save this, modify pronouns as needed, and use it as a response to this. Forever.

notbecauseofvictories: I’ve got to believe that the Resistance’s intelligence officers are just....

notbecauseofvictories:

I’ve got to believe that the Resistance’s intelligence officers are just. constantly Done. With everyone.

Rey’s understanding of aurebesh is more functional than formal, which isn’t a problem until the Resistance starts asking her to submit mission reports—she rarely spells anything the same way twice (”even her name!” the intelligence officer moans) and her sentence structure is….not so much a structure as “a loose grouping of things that might be parts of speech”

“…..I don’t understand, what’s the problem?” Finn asks because Finn’s grammar is impeccable, once you decipher the dense nest of abbreviations, First Order codes, and trooper slang that fill his reports. (This does not save any more time.)

“If you could maybe…..not? wax lyrical about the TIE fighter?” the intelligence officer tells Poe, when he finally gets around to submitting his report on the escape from the Finalizer. “Not that understanding enemy technology isn’t a vital contribution to intelligence, but we don’t need 500 polysyllabic words about how the sun glinted off the casing.”

General Organa still submits reports like they used to in the Rebellion (her battle damage assessment style is about thirty years out of date, and she calculates galactic coordinates like it’s the late republic) but everyone in intel is fucking terrified of bringing this up to her. Instead, they have a designated officer who deals exclusively with translating General Organa’s reports into more modern New Republic standards,so they can be processed.

(At least yours actually submits reports, their counterparts in the First Order would say, if they all got together in a bar somewhere to commiserate about how hard soldiers make military intelligence. Kylo Ren has submitted exactly one misrep in the last 15 years. Thirty-two people died and it just said ‘it was the Force’.)

play-the-game:

To all the guys out there, especially in high school that play sports. It doesn’t matter if you’re on a team or not. My back hurts so much and I’m sure my constant headaches I have are related to me ignoring injuries in high school just because I was told to be tough because I’m a man. I let bullshit society expectations get to me and allowed me to satisfy with being hurt and now at 20 my body feels kinda like shit more times than it should.

Don’t be me Iight. Get healthy. Get happy.

Hypermasculinity out here physically hurting men. Can’t imagine how much more it affects black men/athletes.

Y'all deserve care.

While I was in basic training there was a young dude that was bitten by a brown recluse on his scrotum. Despite constant urging from his platoon he refused to go to the hospital because he didn’t want anyone looking at his balls.

After two weeks the tissue of his scrotum was almost all completely necrotic and he ended up being discharged from the army.

This is toxic masculinity.

The real human cost of Republicans targeting transgender kids

by rss@dailykos.com (Kerry Eleveld)

The GOP’s relentless attack on the dignity and humanity of transgender kids is taking an incredible toll, as we are reminded by the suicides of heroes like Blake Brockington. Two transgender teens, Grayson and Dex, brought this human cost eloquently to light Wednesday when they testified before a South Carolina Senate committee.

Grayson, a female-to-male transgender 13 year old, relayed how humiliating it is for him to use a separately designated bathroom at school rather than the ones everybody else uses. Jeremy Turnage reports:

"All I want is to be able to use the men's restroom with the rest of my non-transgender peers, but this doesn't happen and it won't happen if this bill is passed," Grayson said. "The people introducing this bill are victimizing the innocent. When I enter a men's bathroom, I just want to use the facilities, wash my hands and leave. I do not deserve to have my gender identity washed away like a fingerprint on a windowpane. I do not deserve to have the person I am replaced by someone I don't want to be. I do not deserve to be forced to use a restroom where I do not feel safe."

Grayson also called out supporters of the bill, saying none of them understood what it was like to prove themselves and who they are constantly.

His friend Dex, also 13, told lawmakers that forcing trans kids to use the wrong restroom at school would put them at great risk for physical violence by “outing” them as transgender.
