Nicole Marshall, a 22-year-old mother of a 3-year-old girl, died in custody on Tuesday, May 10.
According to Marshall’s family she was in a serious car accident on April, where her car rolled over multiple times.
However, she wasn’t taken to the hospital. Instead the police took her
to the Walker County Jail in Huntsville, Texas.
Symone’s sister, Honey, said:
“When I talked to her from jail, she complained that her head was hurting and she kept blacking out. I called the jail several times and requested for them to take her to a real hospital and they wouldn’t do so. If they would have this, her death could have been prevented and my sister would still be here. My heart hurts so bad. She was my best friend. I am so angry that they did this to her. She moved to Texas for a fresh start in life a few months ago. She was doing good down there, had a job and was about to buy a house. She’s a beautiful person, never been in trouble before and didn’t deserve this.”
Texas police and Walker County jail officials refused to comment or release information about the accident.
Marshall’s family hasn’t been able to get details from officials either.

Black drivers tooling along the scenic roads of Vermont were more likely to be stopped by the state police and more likely to be searched, according to the Associated Press. But black drivers were less likely to have contraband found on them.
The percentage of stops of whites that resulted in searches was 1.1; the percentage involving black drivers was 5.1. Contraband was found 80 percent of the time in searches of whites and 68.5 percent of the time in searches of blacks.
Ninety-four percent of Vermont residents were white, according to the 2010 Census.
AP reports that those findings, courtesy of Boston’s Institute on Race and Justice at Northeastern University, came from data collected between July 2010 and December 2015. The data was collected by state troopers and presented to state police senior command staff, other employees and residents in Vermont earlier this week.

It used to puzzle me why it was such a common element in urban fantasy settings - particularly those of tabletop roleplaying games - that the reason magic stays hidden is because people don’t want to believe in it.
In the real world, people are desperate to believe in magic. You see it everywhere, from spirit mediums on TV to the horoscopes in the daily paper.
The idea that there’d be an institutional refusal to believe in magic is just so alien to the demonstrable facts of human psychology that it would seriously hurt my suspension of disbelief.
Talking cats and setting things on fire with your mind is one thing, but a human psychology that lacks an inclination toward magical thinking is simply bizarre.
Then it hit me.
The public’s refusal to believe in magic in urban fantasy settings is a stand-in for the perennial nerd fallacy that non-nerds are stupid, and only the special, nerdy elite have the objectivity to understand the world as it truly is.
Charming.
My next project needs to be an urban fantasy novella where magical beings stay hidden because they can’t stand mainstream society fanboying out over what they THINK magic is, then getting pissy that magical beings aren’t really like that.
