It occurs to me that as much as “humans are the scary ones” fits sometimes, if you look at it another way, humans might seem like the absurdly friendly or curious ones.
I mean, who looked at an elephant, gigantic creature thoroughly capable of killing someone if it has to, and thought “I’m gonna ride on that thing!”?
And put a human near any canine predator and there’s a strong chance of said human yelling “PUPPY!” and initiating playful interaction with it.
And what about the people who look at whales, bigger than basically everything else, and decide “I’m gonna swim with our splashy danger friends!”
Heck, for all we know, humans might run into the scariest, toughest aliens out there and say “Heck with it. I’m gonna hug ‘em.”

“I dunno. I gotta hug ‘em.”
And it’s like the first friendly interaction the species has had in forever so suddenly humanity has a bunch of big scary friends.

I hate to say this commander but we must install a rule to prevent them from endangering their own lives when interacting with the galaxy’s fauna.”

sheer luck that the Fanzorians thought that it was funny that the human picked

You’re Always Losing. This man owns you. He understands perfectly well that he is the news. You can’t ignore him. You’re always playing by his rules — which he can change at any time without any notice. You can’t — in Putin’s case — campaign to vote him out of office. Your readership is dwindling because ad budgets are shrinking — while his ratings are soaring, and if you want to keep your publication afloat, you’ll have to report on everything that man says as soon as he says it, without any analysis or fact-checking, because 1) his fans will not care if he lies to their faces; 2) while you’re busy picking his lies apart, he’ll spit out another mountain of bullshit and you’ll be buried under it.
I keep hoping that there are enough real journalists (and by that I mean people who want to get to the Truth of things and bring that Truth to the American people) who take their jobs seriously, who don’t care primarily about ratings and accolades, who will band together and take on Trump in the adversarial way the press has always supposed to take on the president. I hope that this group of people exists, and that they’ll work together for the greater good of our nation to stand up to Trump, hold him and his administration accountable, and refuse to let him control them.

The Times of London actually does its readers a grave disservice by cleaning up Trump’s words to make him sound coherent. What he says, and how he says it, are inextricably linked and the Times should not have edited his rambling, often contradictory statements into something that a reasonable person would have said, because it creates a false impression for its readers.

This week, the Pew Research Center released a report entitled "Behind the Badge," a comprehensive survey of nearly 8,000 law enforcement officials across the United States examining their attitudes toward their jobs, police protests, interactions with their communities, racial issues, and much more. The report states that it is appearing "at a crisis point in America's relationship with the men and women who enforce its laws, precipitated by a series of deaths of black Americans during encounters with the police."
According to 2016 University of Louisville and University of South Carolina study, police fatally shoot black men at disproportionate rates. Since the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, the last few years have been marked with protests leading to a national discussion around race and policing. This report explores how law enforcement officers in the United States view the intersection of policing and race—often, not surprisingly, with very different perspectives between white and black officers.
Here are some of the highlights:
Racial equality: When asked about racial inequality in the country, 92 percent of white officers answered that the United States does not need to make any more changes to achieve equal rights for black Americans. Only 29 percent of black cops agreed. This is in sharp contrast to white civilians, the report notes: Only 57 percent of white adults believe that equal rights have been secured for black people; a mere 8 percent of black people agree, Pew found in a separate survey.
Demonstrations against police: Sixty-eight percent of the officers interviewed say demonstrations against police brutality are motivated by anti-police bias, and 67 percent say the deaths of black people at the hands of police are isolated incidents. Once more, there is a significant racial divide between the respondents: 57 percent of black cops think the high-profile incidents point to a larger problem, while only 27 percent of their white colleagues agree.
Police involvement in immigrant deportation: During the 2016 campaign, Donald Trump supported local law enforcement having more of a role in deporting undocumented immigrants, and a small majority of cops agree. Overall, 52 percent of police officers believe they should have an active role in immigration enforcement; 59 percent of white cops agree, compared with 35 percent of black officers and 38 percent of Hispanic police officers.
Community policing: The idea of training police officers to work with community members to achieve better policing has become the center of the conversation surrounding police reform since President Barack Obama organized a task force around the "community policing" concept. But 56 percent of all police officers interviewed consider an aggressive approach to policing more appropriate in certain neighborhoods than the approach of being courteous. There was no racial breakdown for this result.
Physical confrontation: For most police officers, according to the report, physical confrontations do not occur every day, but one-third of those interviewed reported having a physical struggle with a suspect who was resisting arrest within the last month. Thirty-six percent of white officers reported having such an incident, while 33 percent of Hispanic officers reported the same thing. Only 20 percent of black officers said they had a physical altercation with a suspect.
The report also includes police officers attitudes on job satisfaction and police reform proposals. "Police and the public hold sharply different views about key aspects of policing as well as on some major policy issues facing the country," the report concludes.

This is when Carri Shipaila, founder of LuvnPupz rescue organization, stepped in. She learnt that Stinger was also severely underweight and had scabies, a highly contagious skin disease. Days went by at the LuvnPupz shelter with Stinger being all mellow and in a lot of pain. It turned out that Stinger also has an auto-immune disease called Pemphigus, and needs daily medication for the rest of his life. However, the puppy didn’t give up: “Stinger is an amazing dog. He loves everyone he meets. He’s the perfect image of how people should see the breed; sweet, funny and full of life,” Shipaila told Bored Panda.

At a rally to support the ACA, Bernie supporters drew attention from the very important task of keeping people insured to boo Cory Booker.
Fuck ideological purity. If we lose Obamacare, people will die. Cory Booker did what he thought was best. I support him and I still love my senator.
This makes me furious and more sick of the hardcore Bernie bros than I already was. Now is quite literally the worst time EVER for any Democratic, liberal, or any decent person to pulling this kind of nonsense. Not saying the Cory Booker is a saint but his reasons behind voting the way he did make sense.
Flint, Michigan, is dealing with another outbreak. This time it’s an infectious bacterial disease called Shigellosis, which can cause bloody diarrhea and fever and typically spreads when people don’t wash their hands.
According to health department officials, the gastrointestinal disease has been occurring at a higher rate in that county than in any other county, with 85 cases just last week, according to data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
People in Flint - who are still forced to use either filtered or bottled water because of damaged water pipes - are bathing less, and refusing to wash their hands.
“People aren’t bathing because they’re scared,“
said Jim Henry, Genesee County’s environmental health supervisor. The residents of Flint have been loathe to trust the water coming from the taps after government officials switched the water source to the #FlintRiver, leading to lead contamination in the water and causing a crisis that had repercussions nationwide. Even though the source was switched back, trust still remains low in the water and in the government in that area.
Why hasn’t this been fixed yet? It’s absolutely appalling that we’re giving billions in aid packages to other countries yet our own citizens don’t have clean water! WTF is wrong with this government!!
Adder Stones (sometimes
also called hag stones, witch stones, serpent’s eggs, snake’s eggs, Glain
Neidr, Milpreve, adderstanes, Gloine nan Druid, aggry, or aggri) are stones,
usually smooth or glassy, with a naturally occurring hole bored straight through
it, typically from water erosion or natural damage.
That said, there are no shortage of stories claiming these
stones have a more unnatural origin. One claims that they are formed from the
hardened saliva of a great number of serpents, massed together, and the holes
are from their tongues. Another claims the stones are actually the heads of
snakes.
Adder stones feature prominently in Welsh mythology and
Druidic culture. They were believed to have magical powers and thought to
protect people from a gamut of problems, ranging from eye diseases, evil
charms, nightmares, whooping cough, and snake bites. It was also believe that
if you looked through the hole in an adder stone, you could see through the
disguise of a fairy or witch.
