My favorite thing about this video was that he didn’t go on. Right after he said this he moved on to the next story. He didn’t go into a five minute think segment about the value of the press. He didn’t analyze the differing opinions. He just laughed and said no and moved. the. fuck. on.
You never know what you are going to see on America’s public lands. Case in point: This photo from Big Bend National Park in Texas. A mother bobcat perches in a mesquite tree with her large juvenile kittens, teaching them the ropes of feline life in the wilderness. An employee captured this shot not too far from a park road. This family group was likely hunting from the tree where they would have a good view of passing rodents. But maybe they were just enjoying the view! Photo by Big Bend Natural History Association. 😺😺😺
oh man, i need to go back and visit big bend now that i’m an adult who can actually like. enjoy it.
Wow, Ted Cruz is back, with horrible new facial expressions.
Senators Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz, two people the country wanted as their president even less than the two options we ended up with, will waste everyone’s time and whittle away at the precious supply of sanity we have left with a televised debated about the future of Obamacare.
OK, but how does Hatch keep digging himself out of those coffins?
After Democrats refused to show up for the vote on Cabinet nominees Steven Mnuchin and Rep. Tom Price—an obstruction tactic waged amid intense pressure from the left, which has strengthened in reaction to Trump’s absolutely terrifying first week—Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) has, as the …
Not seeing enough of Edinburgh’s protest at Donald Trump on here so posting from twitter some of the highlights. I’ve kept the usernames in so you can go give a like or a follow!
Most of this is lifted from the twitter rant I just went on, but: I love how Shaun King, among others, are out here trashing Hillary Clinton for not “living up to her campaign promises” and trashing her for “giving up” when she literally… lost…
Hillary worked tirelessly for this country for 25+ years, and this is the thanks she gets. I’ve seen this too many times since the election.
People asking “where’s Hillary?” after Some Shit™ goes down during the Trump transition. Where is she? In the woods, bitch.
People asking “where’s Hillary?” after Trump shoots off another typo-ridden tweet. Where is she? At the bookstore, bitch.
People asking “where’s Hillary?” after learning about Russian influence in the election. Where is she? Sipping tea and taking a nap because she fucking told y’all about that and y’all laughed at her and called her a nut.
Hillary Clinton fought for this country for years and fought through that election, and for what? So the men at the top of the party can walk around saying “I would’ve won”? So people can continue to drag her for not doing enough, even though she just fought lost the biggest election of her life?
Hillary Clinton put her heart and soul into working to do what she thought was right in order to make this country great, and she did it while fighting sexism and misogyny, right-wing conspiracy theories and smears, and even attacks from people within her own party.
Hillary Clinton is a private citizen now, and she doesn’t HAVE to do ANYTHING for ANYONE. Y’all can kick all the rocks.
This is the most dude thing ever. She didn’t get the job, but she’s expected to do it anwyay.
Well and even more to the point - Hillary Clinton trying to be a public part of the protests or opposition will do enormous damage to the protests and opposition, and she knows this. If she gets involved at all, Trump will absolutely use her involvement to delegitimize anyone who’s in the same area code as Hillary Clinton. He’ll claim that people are protesting because she’s paid them to (he’s already claiming the protestors are being paid), and that she’s just trying to stir up trouble to take over the presidency/run in 2020. And enough people will believe it to derail the movement that’s building.
The best thing Hillary Clinton can do for those protesting and working toward 2018 is exactly what she’s doing; staying quiet and giving the bare minimum of social media support. She can’t march and she can’t speak - not yet, not in this climate, not without risking enormous blowback. She’s smart enough and, I think, supportive enough of what’s happening to keep herself as far away from any accusations of collusion as possible.
Oh look, Sen. Mitch McConnell is having another one of his frequent bouts of The Amnesia. Maybe Donald Trump is only the tip of a mental health iceberg: Are all our Republican leaders suffering from an inability to remember their own statements from one day to the next?
2016: “The question is, will [Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland] have a hearing, and will it be taken up by the Judiciary Committee. He will not be. [...] This nominee is not going to be considered. [...] The president initiates the appointment, the Senate decides whether or not to consider it at all.”
2017: “Apparently there’s yet a new standard now, which is to not confirm a Supreme Court nominee at all. [...] I think this is something the American people simply will not tolerate [...] Our hope would be that our Democratic friends would treat President Trump’s nominees in the same way we treated Clinton and Obama.”
just to clarify, this means that any information regarding:
BIA-funded K12 schools
BIA-funded educational programs, namely tribal adult ed funding and the Johnson O’Malley program (which provides critical funding to fill in deficits for Native students; the idea is that because Native families do not pay property taxes on their tribal land, those students don’t “contribute” money to their local school district, so the feds chip in to cover the difference…JOM pays for things like after school programs, school supplies, libraries, etc for K12)
BIA law enforcement on tribal lands
questions on potential policy changes
current issues/bills in Congress that would affect Indian Country
other federally-funded programs, like funds from OVW to support tribal domestic violence programs (which it sounds like Trump is working on cutting)
the relationship tribes have with federal law enforcement and public lands management (like the national parks)
tribal government petitions/communications to the federal government
etc, all must be approved by Trump’s staff before being sent to tribal leadership. effectively this means the BIA can’t really do their job at all, because they have to be in near-constant communication with tribes at many different levels (for example, when i worked in a tribal dept of education, we frequently contacted BIA for meetings, advice, interpretations of grant stipulations, etc)
so basically this puts tribes in a very difficult situation by keeping them in the dark, and it further erodes whatever shreds of trust we may have had with the federal government. the only reason for this ban on communication without approval is that there is information they don’t want BIA to give our leadership??
