GOP Lawmaker Calls Abe Lincoln the 'Same Sort of Tyrant' As Hitler, Thinks the Civil War Was 'Unnecessary'

by Ellie Shechet on The Slot, shared by Julianne Escobedo Shepherd to Jezebel
ThePrettiestOne

Can we maybe start vetting legislatural candidates?

North Carolina rep. Larry Pittman was evidently not in great spirits yesterday after his unconstitutional bill to restore a same-sex marriage ban in the state was slapped down by the Republican House Speaker. And what do Republican officials apparently love to do when the going gets tough? Make an extremely offensive…

Point one: I do this ALL THE TIME to the point where I wonder if all those blows to the head growing gifted me with mild aphasia.
Point two: My brother lived in Japan for, oh, something over a decade. His (sadly, ex-) wife is Japanese. I went to visit, and we spent a night at a VERY classy resort. It's the sort of place where they hand you a menu and tell you what you are going to eat. Because they served Japanese and French cuisine, the menu was in French and Japanese. Now, I've studied enough French to work out what "langue de bœuf" is, and as I said my sister-in-law is Japanese, so we both knew what was for dinner. My brother, as he later explained, has a businessman's vocabulary in the local language, and as such, he was unfamiliar with the kanji for "tongue." So, my sister-in-law waits until he's inserting a forkful into his mouth, and turned to me and said, "Did you know that we are eating beef tongue?"

I would trade every picture of every awesome thing I saw on that trip for just one snapshot of his face at that point.

the Anne Frank Center has to call out government employees for anti-semitsm in 2017…… just let that sink in

HITLER GASSED PEOPLE TO DEATH AND THE GOVERNMENT IS SAYING HE DIDN’T USE CHEMICAL WEAPONS

THIS IS BEYOND INSANE

WHAT IS HAPPENING

The trump government has gone from soft Holocaust denial to full blown Holocaust denial.

I’m speechless, holy crap.

It gets worse!

He then said that he meant that Hitler didn’t gas people in his own country or in their homes. No, Hitler had them sent to “the Holocaust center.”

The Holocaust center.

This man is an idiot, and unrepentant when he hurts someone, either out of his own inability to form cohesive thoughts, or just because he doesn’t care.

HOLY SHIT HE REALLY SAID THIS

Is that what we calling Concentration Camps now, Holocaust Centers.

From the get go this administration has been doing Holocaust Denial.

They keep pushing the denial further and further to the point I won’t be surprised if they claim it never even happened at all.

This is why it’s unbelievably important that we teach the holocaust in schools. In hardcore, AP and IB history classes. No matter the level of students. We cannot forget.

I wish that last gif were in the context of literally anything else, because I laughed so hard I'm ashamed of myself.

jewish-privilege:

jewish-privilege:

The White House Press Secretary said that even Hitler didn’t stoop so low as to gas his own people (compared to Assad). And then clarified his point by saying that he used it in “Holocaust centers.” That’s right. Sean Spicer just called death camps “Holocaust centers.” And I guess Jews and Romani and other victims weren’t “his own people”? And if Assad is worse than Hitler (hey I’m just trying to follow this fakakta logic), doesn’t that mean we should invade Syria immediately?

Why even BRING UP Hitler in the first place?

Chag Pesach sameach?

And I swear to all that is good in this world, if anyone ever tells me that we go over the Holocaust too much and everyone in U.S. knows everything that happens in the Holocaust because of how much it’s taught in our schools? I’m just gonna show them gifs of all the White House press corp reporters’ facial expressions at Spicer’s word vomit of whatever the hell THAT was.

"For her next birthday she’d asked for a telescope. Her mother had been alive then, and had suggested..."

“For her next birthday she’d asked for a telescope. Her mother had been alive then, and had suggested a pony, but her father had laughed and bought her a beautiful telescope, saying: “Of course she should watch the stars! Any girl who cannot identify the constellation of Orion just isn’t paying attention!” And when she started asking him complicated questions, he took her along to lectures at the Royal Society, where it turned out that a nine-year-old girl who had blond hair and knew what the precession of the equinoxes was could ask hugely bearded famous scientists anything she liked. Who’d want a pony when you could have the whole universe?”

The Way You Saw The Dress May Have Something to Do With Your Sleeping Patterns

by Rich Juzwiak

The worst thing about this dress is literally watching it turn colors as I stare at it.

I don’t mean to salt old wounds by reintroducing a debate that ripped through our culture, creating lasting fissures and ruining lives in the process, buuuuuut: remember the dress? You know, the dress. The one you were right about (because you saw it as white and gold), even when you found out that you were wrong…

spicer said this shit during passover. like don’t believe for a second he made an innocent mistake, that he wasn’t aware of what he was saying.

like this is explicitly antisemitic and he clearly doesn’t understand why

he straight up doesn’t believe that German Jews were people

“he never used them on fellow Germans” the implication that german jewish ppl were somehow “not truly german” was quite literally at the core of nazi ideology, this is so incredibly mind-numbingly transparent.

By saying that he never used chemical weapons on “fellow Germans” (sean spicer’s words, not mine) he is basically saying that Jews/Romanis/gays/every other group targeted in the Holocaust weren’t German. Which is what Hitler was literally saying. He was saying that those people (even if they were German and their families had lived in Germany since…ever) weren’t German. And Sean Spicer is repeating that hateful ideology. That’s what was most offensive to me about this entire chemical weapons/Hitler saga. Not that he got the facts wrong about Nazi use of chemical weapons. That he validated and repeated Nazi ideology. Fuck this guy and this entire anti-Semitic administration.

clientsfromhell:

I had decided to end an ongoing work relationship with a client. I gave them a month’s notice and also made a handover document to ensure smooth sailing after my departure.

No good deed gone unpunished.

Client: Your handover document Is confusing and unprofessional. Come in to do a PROPER handover or we’ll withhold your final payment.

I went in today to do the handover.

Client: Thanks you for doing that! It was extremely comprehensive. Good luck in the future!

All I did for this “comprehensive” handover was read from the document I’d been told was confusing and unprofessional.

This isn’t because Burger King is nicer in Denmark. It’s the law, and the US is actually the only so-called “developed” country that doesn’t mandate jobs provide a minimum amount of paid vacation, sick leave, or both.

kinda debunks that claim that they can’t afford to pay their workers those sort of wages and still make a profit

Its corporate greed, plain and simple.

It is the same in Sweden. It is so funny every time an american company opens up offices here and then tries to do it the american way and all the unions go “I don’t think so”.

Like when Toys ‘r Us opened in sweden 1995.

They refused to sign on to the union deals that govern such things as pay/pension and vacation in Sweden. Most of our rights are not mandated by law (we don’t have a minimum wage for example) but are made in voluntary agreements between the unions and the companies.

But they refused, saying that they had never negotiated with any unions anywhere else in the world and weren’t planning to do it in Sweden either.

Of course a lot of people thought it was useless fighting against an international giant, but Handels (the store worker’s union) said that they could not budge, because that might mean that the whole Swedish model might crumble. So they went on strike in the three stores that the company had opened so far.

Cue a shitstorm from the press, and from right wing politicians. But the members were all for it, and other unions started doing sympathy actions. The teamsters refused to deliver goods to their stores, the financial unions blockaded all economical transactions regarding Toys ‘r Us and the strike got strong international support as well, especially in the US.

In the end, Toys ‘r Us caved in, signed the union deal, and thus their employees got the same treatment as Swedish store workers everywhere.

The right to be treated as bloody human beings and not disposable cogs in a machine.

and that story right there? is exactly why Republicans in the US work so hard to bust unions. it’s because unionizing WORKS and they’re terrified of workers actually having some power.

… and I’m finding it particularly ironic that Mattis forgot about this, given that Trump’s actualfax nickname is Agent Orange.
