Infelizmente, não há nada de surpreendente no documentário de 1984, de Martin Bell sobre adolescentes que vivem nas ruas de Seattle. Eles tendem a vir de lares desfeitos, com os pais ou padrastos que são alcoólatras, abusivos (fisicamente, emocionalmente, sexualmente) e/ou indiferentes. Eles levam uma vida difícil, a maioria vive de roubos insignificantes, tráfico de drogas ou prostituição. Eles comem nas lixeiras, dormem em prédios abandonados, e têm problemas crónicos de saúde. Violência e abusos são comuns.
O facto de tudo isto ser esperado, não diminui o poder do filme. Estas histórias são tão fascinantes como a maioria das narrativas ficcionais. Muitas crianças diferentes aparecem, mas há cerca de meia dúzia que servem o filme como as personalidades principais. Como a maioria dos adolescentes, eles esforçam-se para agir como adultos. Dadas as circunstâncias, têm de tentar muito mais harduamente. Mas ainda podemos ver neles uma criança, nos seus rostos, nos seus maneirismos, um raro vislumbre de deixar caír toda a dureza exterior.
Um aspecto talvez inesperado é que vários deles ainda têm contacto com os pais. Um visita o pai na prisão. Outro é visitado pela mãe e pela avó nas ruas. A maioria deles, no entanto, invoca as famílias substitutas que construíram em volta de si. Um parceiro de confiança e companheiro é um bem valioso nesta situação. Eles unem-se, protegendo-se uns aos outros de quem poderia explorá-los ...mas também, por vezes, formando uma frente unida contra um assistente social bem-intencionado, com um bom conselho.
Documentário nomeado aos Óscar, foi um dos primeiros a lidar com a crescente situação da falta de moradia entre os jovens. Começou como um artigo na revista Life da fotojornalista Mary Ellen Mark e da escritora Cheryl McCall. Mark e o seu marido, o realizador Martin Bell, voltaram para Seattle para filmar as vidas diárias destes jovens fugitivos. O filme é gravado no estilo cinéma vérité, sem narração guiando o espectador. Bell e Mark encontram um grande grupo de indivíduos dispostos a falar sobre as suas vidas de mendigagem, prostituição, pequenos delitos e drogas.
Martin Bell viria mais tarde a estrear-se nas longas-metragens de ficção com "American Heart" (que também iremos ver neste ciclo), e Tom Waits participou apenas na banda sonora, com autoria de duas canções: "Take Care Of All My Children" e "Rat's Theme").

It’s difficult to overstate the importance of the Lamborghini Miura, it’s the car that’s widely regarded as the godfather of the mid-engined, two-seater, high-performance sports car – a formula that even 40+ years later is still the fundamental layout of almost all supercars.

Originally conceived as a Skunkworks project amongst Lamborghini’s top engineers, the Miura almost never saw production. Its revolutionary chassis was shown at the Turin Salon in 1965 and the overwhelmingly positive reception led Ferruccio Lamborghini to green light its production, despite his own preference for larger, more luxurious grand tourers.

By 1966 the Bertone designed body had been fitted and the car was shown at the Geneva Motor Show, the reception of the completed prototype was rapturous with many show goers placing orders then and there.

The Lamborghini Miura P400 SV you see here is the third generation of the model, it benefitted with many “bug fixes” and is often referred to as the ultimate iteration of the model. It was fitted with a 370bhp, 3929cc DOHC V12, a five-speed manual transmission, front and rear independent suspension with upper and lower A-arms, coil springs, anti-roll bars and four-wheel Girling disc brakes.

The performance resulting from this specification list was a revelation in the late ’60s and early ’70s, it was the fastest production car in the world and it both founded and cemented Lamborghini’s global reputation as a performance car company.

Funnily enough, this car was bought new by Rod Stewart in 1971 off the showroom floor of Lamborghini Concessionaires Ltd. of Alie Street, London. He owned the car for a number of years before it was sold on, the car’s full history from new is on file and it recently underwent a concours restoration at the hands of noted marque specialist Colin Clarke Engineering and it’s now being offered for sale at the upcoming Paris Auction due to be held on the 5th of February 2014 by RM Auctions.

Quentin Tarantino abandonou temporariamente a ideia de realizar "The Hateful Eight". O cineasta ficou bastante irritado pelo facto de alguém ter divulgado sem autorização o argumento de "The Hateful Eight". Tarantino salientou ao Deadline que o argumento foi entregue a seis pessoas, entre os quais a Bruce Dern, Tim Roth e Michael Madsen.

Tarantino salienta que tem a certeza que não foi Tim Roth, colocando as culpas no agente de um dos outros dois actores, sendo que o Deadline sugere que a fuga pode ter vindo da agência que representa Dern. O próprio Tarantino comentou que não deu o argumento a Christoph Waltz, nem a Samuel L. Jackson, tendo dado apenas a três actores: "Tem de ter sido entre os agentes do Dern ou Madsen”. Perante este revés, Tarantino pretende publicar a história de "The Hateful Eight" num livro e seguir para outro projecto que já tinha em mente. O cineasta comentou ainda que daqui a alguns anos poderá voltar a desenvolver "The Hateful Eight".

You’re looking at a bespoke, reclaimed Tornado ejector seat that’s been rebuilt into a leather lined gentleman’s chair – although I don’t claim to be an authority on the subject of home furnishings I’m having a hard time imagining that any chair previously created by the hands of mankind could match this for sheer marvellousness.

The original ejector seat was removed from a de-activated Tornado fighter jet, the team at Hangar 54 then removed the original upholstery and sand blasted the frame. It was then chrome plated and new leather topped upholstery was added, resulting in a chair worthy of a ’60s Bond villain.

Vivian Maier, nanny by profession, hid her secret passion and intimate moments from everyone until they were discovered in 2007 at a local thrift auction house on Chicago’s Northwest Side. Bundled in shoe boxes were hundreds of rolls of undeveloped film, audio recordings, newspaper clippings, home films, and political tchotchkes.

 

although born in the US, Vivian spent her childhood in France, returning in 1951 to the Big Apple, where she worked as a care-giver and photographed the city streets in her leisure time on her Rolleiflex camera. in 1956, she moved to the northern suburbs of Chicago, where she nannied for a family of three boys. Vivian would take the boys on trips to strawberry fields to pick berries. she’d find a dead snake on the curb and bring it home to show off to the boys or organize plays with all of the children on the block. a Mary Poppins of sort, Vivian was a free spirit and followed her curiosities wherever they led her.

 

 

 

as she now has risen to world renown, much of her life is still a mystery and in the process of being uncovered in a documentary film by John Maloof, who first discovered her negatives in the lockers he purchased at the auction house in Chicago.
