DUBLIN — A 24-year-old man from Brazil died on a flight to Dublin after he went nuts and bit a fellow passenger.
The incident happened on Sunday night on a Aer Lingus flight from Portugal to Dublin when the man became erratic and attacked a passenger sitting near him.
After biting the other man, crew members restrained him before he lost consciousness. A doctor and nurse were on the flight and attempted to revive him, but were unsuccessful.
After the flight was diverted to the Irish city of Cork, paramedics pronounced the man dead on arrival. The man who was bitten was transported to the hospital while the remaining 165 passengers traveled by bus to Dublin.
Why the man lost his marbles and attacked another passenger is not being reported, but a 44-year-old Portuguese woman that was traveling with him was arrested after five pounds of suspected amphetamine powder was found in her suitcase.
That same day, a Southwest Airlines flight to San Francisco from Los Angeles had to turn around mid-flight after two passengers got into a physical confrontation.
According to eyewitnesses, a woman attempted to recline her seat back just before takeoff, and the man sitting behind her wasn’t too pleased about it. He was removed from the flight after he allegedly began choking the woman.
The remaining 136 got to their destination five hours after their scheduled arrival time after being transferred to another plane.
