Grrl Power #666 – Demon stuff!

by DaveB

Grrl Power #666 – Demon stuff!

I hadn’t planned on cutting away from the battle again, but someone pointed out that page 666 was coming up, and I knew I had to do something featuring Dabbler. (Even though the actual number of the beast is 616 but someone translating something one day decided 666 was punchier and just changed it. It’s almost like the whole thing was made up or something.) If I can figure out how, I’ll bump page 663 up to 665, so the pages cutting into the battle scene will be back to back.

Anyway, back to this page. Dabbler’s apron isn’t censored for the sake of the comic, it’s supposed to be actually printed that way, so anyone looking at it in real life would see that Japanese mosaic effect and will fill in dirty stuff to the limit of their imagination. Imagine it was a picture of a tentacle, or a picture of two butts touching, if you’re Tina Belcher, or a picture of a ▛▓▞▓▚▛.

As the commander of the team, Maxima should probably be a little more stoic, and not wandering around the base at 3:00 am in her pajamas. She’s obviously taken a sort of motherly shine to Sydney, and is frustrated she can’t punch this problem in the face to fix it.

Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. $1 and up, but feel free to contribute as much as you like.

Sensitive Scanner calling Head Alien “toots” just reminds me of how apparently I can’t not hear the word as a not-nice term to use when regarding a lady, even though I grew up hearing Lady Elaine use it constantly on Mister Rogers Neighborhood, and how strange it continues to feel coming out of her daughter, Miss Elaina, on Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.

seriously, kid, why are you calling everyone “toots” it’s weird

Deep undercover

by Brad Guigar

Webcomics whackos Dave Kellett and Brad Guigar are talking shop! Brad took a four-week vacation from his comic this summer, and he says it’s the smartest thing he has ever done. THEN we take another swing at the topic of “Goof content vs. Viral content.” Have we over simplified the discussion? NEXT, Dave and Brad note that they’ve been using Bonjoro app all summer long. Are they still as excited about it as they were when they started? And FINALLY, why do we hate thought balloons so much? Is it time to re-think our animosity?

BUT FIRST, Dave’s DriveKickstarter.com funded in ONE DAY! He talks about the strategies he used to pull that off.

Dez the English Labrador

by DogPerDay

Dez is a five year old English Laborador. He actually became my “adopted son” after my boyfriend and I got together. Dez now loves living in the country where he plays fetch endlessly and can’t get enough of running after the lawn mower while I cut the grass. He also loves going to the cabin with dad, swimming, and taking rides in the side by side. He has a little brother rabbit named Pippen. They actually love each other and are unlikely friends! Dez loves to be outdoors but he equally loves his time relaxing on the couch. He is a good sport while I have him pose for pictures. He has the most loving personality and is quite the character! Dampener

by Tim

The following is spoiler-free, re: Spider-Man.

I love the Peter Parker/Miles Morales/MJ sequences in Spider-Man from a narrative perspective. But from a gameplay perspective, man, they are such a bummer.

It shouldn’t seem like a big deal… after all, I play a lot of games where I’m not Spider-Man. Not being Spider-Man is basically the majority of my life. But when you put not being Spider-Man right in the middle of being Spider-Man? Oooh, that really stings.

There are instances where taking over the character adds to the game experience and the story of these characters; Miles Morales, I’m looking at you. Also GCS was cool. But some of these sequences feel a little uneccessary. Like when MJ is like “Let me tell you what happened!” and instead of then just saying “I went to the place and learned the thing!” you then have to spend fifteen minutes with no super powers to learn the thing.

With that said, the relationships in Spider-Man are fantastically portrayed, and I desperately hope this is the start of a franchise for Insomniac, because I’d love to see them build on what they’ve done here with these characters.

I’d feel so angry if I didn’t feel so pretty

The names on the lockers belong to Canadians I knew!  Transformers fandom-specific Canadians.  One is a kid who we technically kidnapped by driving him across the border to a BotCon without full consent of his mom.  (She thought we were going camping.  In Canada.  And not North Carolina.)  The other is a guy you might know better as the webcartoonist of Funny Farm and Accursed Dragon!.

The guy getting hit with a fish in the background of the final panel is a reference to Josh Phillips’ forum avatar.  Josh Phillips, the cartoonist of Avalon, the fictional setting this storyline is taking place in, which I haven’t actually spelled out explicitly in these commentaries yet.  He was taking a lot of hiatuses at the time, and so, for the lulz, I wrote a storyline that took place within his webcomic “in between updates.”  See, the school was frozen.   Just a good joke, between friends!  Hopefully!  Oh god, was i being a jerk

i’m sorry josh

Also, here Robin says “transgendered.”  The preferred wordage these days is to drop that terminal -ED because of all sorts of reasons, and also I don’t recommend your webcomic’s single reference to trans people being an insinuation that they only exist provocatively.
