Whale Pelvis Isn't Useless After All – It Maneuvers the Penis

Elvis Presley earned the moniker of “Elvis the Pelvis” for his tendency to gyrate his hips in erotic fashion. It turns out that whales and dolphins, known as cetaceans, also use their pelvic bones in the most sexual of ways. Forty million years ago, whales’ and dolphins’ ancestors walked the Earth and a pelvis was crucial for that task. Today, cetaceans, of course, are ocean dwellers, but their anatomy still includes pelvic bones. Marine biologists had thought that the pelvic bones were pur

The Apple Watch and Its Interesting MECHANICAL Features

by Kyle Stults

Apple Watch on mesh bracelet

The Apple Watch debuted today, who knew?!  The Apple Watch (nope, not the ‘iWatch’) was presented with great fanfare, yes even by ‘traditional’ watch bloggers.   A lot of the discussion though was heavy speculation over implications for “Switzerland.”  As for me, well I summed up my reaction to the Apple Watch in this Tweet earlier today:

The Apple Watch? Not even close to drawing us away from #mechanical #watch love! That’s how we roll at http://t.co/w4yQomwc58! #womw

— Perpetuelle (@perpetuelle) September 9, 2014

This said, from a design perspective I did observe some interesting elements as I was watching the Apple Watch video presentation.  Mechanical elements, that is.  I doubt most folks gave second thought to the fact that there are actually mechanical features in this piece of high-tech gadgetry.  But there are.

I won’t drone on, but I will give you now some unique perspective on the Apple Watch.  Yes, insights that have not been put forth anywhere else — mechanical features of the high-tech Apple Watch that caught my eye.  What else would you expect from a mechanical watch guy?

Little Known Brief Menswear Tales: Late-Breaking Apple News

CLEVELAND, OHIO: Massive artisanal Japanese denim-wearing crowds numbering from the tens to nearly hundreds took to exurban streets and social media today to protest Apple’s surprise announcement that “artisanal denim-heads will need to abandon their iPhone fades.”

Said one crying barista from Omaha, Nebraska, “My iPhone fade took friggin years to develop. Does Apple even know what it’s like to wear the same pants, day in, day out, for five years without washing?”

Another artisanal denim wearer, who simply calls himself The Intruder, responded to the Apple announcement by slouching, slipping his fingers thumbs-out into the front pockets of his jeans, and bowing his head, attempting to gain solace from his selfie pose.

A continuously beaming Tim Cook sought to reverse the damage from the announcement, cheerfully booming, “The good news? All you artisanal jeans wearers can keep your cock fades!”

Added Cook, smiling uncontrollably, “The revolutionary iPhone announcements today in no way affects the decades-old small form factor of the Menswear cock!”

The protesting crowds were jeered from the sidelines by Samsung phone owners in True Religion and Old Navy jeans.

Updates pending.

The Erotic Baptism: Christian Erotica

You’d think “Christian Erotica” would be someone raw dogging their spouse under the loving gaze of the Lord, but you’d be wrong. It’s actually about getting horndogged out when you see a baby being baptized, and then fucking the priest who baptized the baby.

Introducing the NOMOS Glashutte True Blue Worldtimer

by Main

This is the new “true blue” version of the NOMOS Glashutte Worldtimer. It operates the same as before: a single push button (at 2 o’clock) allows you to quickly rotate the outer ring until the correct city is at 12 o’clock, causing the hour and minute hands to instantly jump to the local time.

However, in addition to the beautiful new galvanized blue dial, the patented in-house caliber now features the NOMOS escapement system (swing system). Notably, the hairspring is still outsourced from a local German manufacturer, though. To reflect the change, the movement previously called the “Xi,” is now referred to as caliber DUW 5201. Moreover, the price of the watch has increased slightly. Likely as a result of the new improved in-house escapement system and/or currency fluctuations.

Nomos-Blue-Worldtimer-movement 3.jpg

The three part stainless steel case is fully polished, has a thin fixed bezel and measures 39.9 by 10.85 mm. The front has a domed glare-proofed sapphire crystal, with a flat screwed-down sapphire glass on the back. The hour and minute hands are rhodium-plated and faceted, which looks terrific against the blue dial. The home time is indicated via the 24-hour disc at 3 o’clock, which is controlled by the crown. Small seconds can be hacked via the crown.

The movement features a Glashütte three-quarter plate, Glashütte stop work, bi-directional winding, Incabloc shock protection, NOMOS swing system, adjusted in six positions, tempered blue screws, Glashütte ribbing, NOMOS perlage, ratchet and duplex wheel with Glashütte sun-burst decoration. The power reserve is 42-hours. Nomos-Zurich-True-Blue-Worldtimer-Ref-807.png

The new Zurich Worldtimer true blue model comes with a black Horween Genuinee Shell Cordovan strap and will be available beginning October 2014. The retail price is $6,100. (Ref. 807)

How To Restrain A Cat

If this cat-grooming restraint system actually kept a cat still, they would have been able to just put it on a cat. But it doesn’t, so they used a stuffed animal.

Idre - Idre

by noreply@blogger.com (Matt Hinch)
multitasksuicide

I'm pretty meh about Neurosis, but this I like a lot.

Written by Matt Hinch.

I'm gonna get this out of the way early. I don't listen to much Neurosis. I haven't even heard Through Silver in Blood for heaven's sake. I know, I know.) That alone should preclude me from reviewing ANYTHING, especially the debut self-titled from Oklahoma City's Idre. The Neurosis influence is thick and leans on the Americana side of that sphere which is in fact the side of Neurosis I have trouble grasping. Across Tundras delving further into that too made me shy away from them. But that's not to say I wasn't going to give Idre the benefit of the doubt.

Idre is steeped in forlorn, dustbowl melodies and slow, plodding movements making for the type of album that requires a certain mood to be fully appreciated. At the same time, Idre is all about creating mood. They do so by shifting volumes, instrumentation and pace over decidedly long songs.

“Factorie”, the first of two tracks clocks in around 26 minutes. A simple crashing thump slowly builds into a flow to open the track. It morphs into a desert landscape of sorrow, loneliness and regret. It's painfully plodding cadence is that of a man mentally agonized to put one foot in front of the other yet undeniably compelled to do so knowing what fate lies at the end of the road. Depressing vocals narrate with a Steve Von Till/Johnny Cash resignation until the sun sets around the halfway mark. Tension mounts as darkness surrounds lo-fi guitars buried under mountains of distortion. An extended instrumental section hypnotizes the listener as the molasses-thick rhythms meander through the plains searching for a peace that cannot be found.

“Witch Trial” comes in at half the time as its predecessor but is no less circuitous or sorrowful. A militant snare marches on through the track's opening movements. It's a more menacing tone but still slow, despairing and hypnotic. Loud/quiet dynamics and varying degrees of urgency and force soundtrack melancholy and sadness. Near the track's conclusion the heavy rolls in like thunder clouds. The fuzz level reaches doom proportions and a heavy drone sets in ensuring burial, not ascendance.

Idre is very chill but like rays of sun peaking between broken clouds, moments of more fevered blood find their place. The slow and hypnotic nature settles the listener into a trance. The patient listener is rewarded by the syrupy dynamics and myriad subtleties that continue to manifest over multiple listens. Idre's vision is clear and well executed. While I enjoyed the louder/faster sections more, I was surprised by how much Idre grew on me. It's apparent that this band could go in a number of directions on future releases and succeed. Or simply soldier on through the haze.

#brandsbrandsbrandsbrands

BRANDS have a logic and meaning of their own. But how much are they worth? Three companies that measure brand value have healthy disagreements. There is a consensus that three technology companies—Google, Apple and Microsoft—belong among the top five. Opinions diverge on Big Blue. And there are significant differences about big consumer brands. Millward Brown and Interbrand think Coca-Cola and McDonald’s are top-ten brands; Brand Finance doesn’t. Even when they roughly agree on rankings they disagree on valuations. Millward Brown, which compiles the BrandZ list, tends to assign the highest dollar values; Brand Finance is more conservative.

A reason for the variance is methodology. There are many different ways to measure a brand’s size (whether to look at revenue or profit, for example). And it is tricky to calculate how much a brand contributes to financial performance. Millward Brown talks to 2m consumers to gauge the desire and loyalty a brand inspires. Interbrand considers internal factors, like how committed a company is to its brand. Brand Finance uses royalty rates for the licensing out of similar brands....Continue reading
