RHOA S11 taglines revealed! + Ramona Singer vs. RHOC

by a_files06
KV

If I'm Still Standing, I'm Still Drinking

-Bravo has released the taglines for the upcoming 11th season of RHOA!

-They leave a lot to be desired.

Nene - "I am the glue for my wig, and my family"

Kandi - "I count my blessings, and my checks"

Cynthia - "I age like a fine wine, now I'm ready to chill"

Porsha - "I took a left turn, but now, things are just right"

Eva - "I live a model life, now I'm ready to be a top wife"

Shamari - "I may be an open book, but that does not mean I am easily read"

The Real Housewives of Atlanta Premieres Sunday, November 4th at 9/8

-After Kelly Dodd says Ramona Singer told her #RHONY put Bravo on the map, not #RHOC, Andy Cohen calls Ramona LIVE! and talks with her about this view and why she thinks it.

-Some high top producer back in S2 named Bond...something James Bond (per Ramona) told them that no one was checking for Real Housewives or Bravo until RHONY came along. But his name was Bond like James Bond!

The Gayest Looks From SS19

by Sonny Oram

Fashion is getting gayer and gayer. I don’t mean designer wise — as obviously 75% of all fashion designers are gay themselves. I mean expression wise. Perhaps I should say fashion is getting more openly gay. From power clashing to queer superheroes to copious amounts of leopard print, there were almost too many gay things to count.

To save you time, I selected the gayest looks for your enjoyment.

Pink lipstick in a menswear show? YES.

ONTD Original: Today's 'It' Girls and Their 2000s Trends

by babs
KV

sorry this is kind of a big post but OH MY GOD

ONTD Original: 2000s Looks Today's 'It' Girls Are Rocking That You May Recognize

Like it or not, 2000s fashion is coming back, and today's It Girls have been playing around with it for a while. What is 2000s fashion? Basically a tragic mixture of every era between the 60s and 90s shoved into one. Let's take a looksie.

Coloured shades, ofc.

Predictions:

This era of fashion has been pretty steady in terms of pace. Little by little, we see 2000s style come into the light. Once it hits us full on, OP thinks button pins will become popular again.

They may be a quick fad, though; no more than a summer romance. Especially if Rihanna doesn't do it first.

Chunky belts might come back in a big way, and it'll happen if the rises of pants/shorts/skirts get really low. Might be a while.

A lot of the trends we're seeing here are heavily influenced by the 60s-scifi-inspired 2000s looks; with metallics, satin, and other shiny textures. Not so scary, right? Well, we're definitely starting to creep into rich trash territory with velour/velvet tracksuits and trucker hats, which may lead to pleated mini skirts, satin babydoll tops, furry rave boots, and McQueen low-rises. That's right, ONTD: If you keep buying into the Kardashians and Jenners, butt cleavage and whale tails may make a comeback.

Godspeed.

A Striking Blue and White Swedish Home Full of Contrast

by My Scandinavian Home
KV

dreamy

This beauty of a home oozes elegance. So, when I found out the owners, Felicia Alm and her partner Viktor are in their early to mid-twenties, I couldn't believe it! When I was 24, I lived with a flat mate (Beth) in a tiny flat in Earls Court. It was a massively fun time, but our accommodation was nowhere near as sophisticated and mature as this beautiful space (to put it into perspective, we were once burgled and didn't notice for days!!). Located just up the coast in Landskrona, this 72 m2 (775 foot square) apartment is in a building dating back to 1890 and blessed with 'spegeldörr' (traditional panel doors), a tiled masonry stove, herringbone floors and stucco ceilings. I chatted to Felicia to find out more about the renovation, her sustainable mindset and shopping for secondhand finds.

Galaxy ceiling light

The side cabinet was sourced at an antique shop in Rydebäck (a great tip for locals!)

Do you and Viktor work in the design world?
I have a bachelor degree in architecture and visual communication and at the moment dream about working with interior design full time. As a hobby, I also create posters and offer freelance graphic design. Viktor works for his family business in the healthcare sector - but we both have a great interest in architecture and real estate.

Hay Polygon quilt, blue velvet cushion*

Is this the first time you have carried out a renovation project?
Over the past 3 years we have lived in three different apartments that we bought, renovated and then sold. Now it feels like we have found home, or at least for the moment haha! You can either call us two restless souls or real estate lovers.

Did the apartment need an extensive amount of work?
When we moved into our current apartment in April 2017, it was in need of a total renovation. So we spent the whole summer of 2017 renovating it. We tried to do as much as we could ourselves. We felt it was important to try to keep the different spatial features of the apartment while making it modern and personal.

What do you love most about your apartment?
Our blue bedroom is my favorite room in the apartment. In my opinion, the blue colour contributes to a calm, relaxing and harmonious vibe. The colour is Kvällshimmel (evening sky) from Jotun LADY. I really love to decorate with color and contrast.

Felicia picked up the fabulous chaise longue secondhand on Blocket.

How do you approach home decorating?
I have always had a great passion for architecture, interior design and graphic design. My interior style is quite varied and I like to mix old and new. I am someone who likes things to happen in my environment, therefore our home is constantly changing. When it comes to my home, I can be kind of impulsive. So, if I get a good idea I will probably execute it the next day, haha!

Where do you buy items for your home?
Because I like to change and refresh our home regularly, I think it's important to think sustainably. I therefore try to shop at Blocket (Sweden's version of Ebay) or antique stores - which are also cheaper. You can find really unique things out there.

The sitting room / dining area is painted in Silverpil 10 by Alcro - and picture shelves from IKEA have been painted in the same tone.

What are your go-to interior shops?
Blocket, H&M Home and Ellos.

IKEA Sevedal kitchen cabinets with Eneryda handles.

Thank you so much for inviting us into your beautiful home Felicia!

Did you spy her cute dog Ester? She's kind of hard to spot but looks so at home!

See more of Felicia's elegant apartment over on her blog and instagram - or if you're now in the mood for blue - take a scroll through these fabulous spaces!

It's the Swedish half-term next week and we're heading off to Spain (you're so welcome to follow along on Instagram stories!). Since I'm the worse screen time offender in the family (I blame it on my job!) - I'm going to try to set a good example and step away my phone / computer as much as possible. This means a reduced number of posts. However, if you can always pop into my Home Viewing Exhibition over at the Swedish Design Museum where I'm constantly adding new Swedish homes - including a summer cottage on its very own island and a 'funkis' bungalow!

I hope you have a FABULOUS weekend!

Niki

FUCK. EVERYTHING.

- Kim and Kanye decided to continue expanding on their political press run, this time paying visit to President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power for 32 years in Uganda.

- He is known for jailing other politicians who oppose his rule, with many saying they were beaten and tortured for speaking out against him. He is also known to beat LGBT activists and force anal examinations, as well as use excessive force and even murder activists at demonstrations.

- The couple stopped by to take photos and sign sneakers.

Boston University’s tallest building will resemble a stack of books

by Tom Acitelli
KV

puke

Not a coincidence: 19-story building would serve as school’s data sciences hub

Boston University’s planned 19-story tower at 645-665 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston’s Kenmore Square area will resemble a stack of books, according to the school.

That’s no coincidence: The tower is set to host the university’s data sciences center, including the mathematics, computer science, and statistics departments.

The building—which Toronto-based KPMB Architects is designing—will also be the tallest on BU’s campus and will replace a surface parking lot. A basement, a four-story podium, 13 floors on top of that, and then a top floor (like the basement) for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing apparatuses will comprise the tower.

“They asked us for something—they used the word ‘iconic,’” Marianne McKenna, a KPMB Architects founding partner, said through the school.

 Rendering via KPMB Architects

It will be open to the public in addition to hosting classroom, research, and administrative space. Construction could take up to 28 months once it starts.

Looks like we'll be makin' runs to just the Single D from now on

by adamg
KV

mmm. mm mm. mmmno. no no no.

DNKN? Cross-promotional opportunity with DKNY? More examples.

Dunkin' Donuts announced today it's changin' its name to just Dunkin' - because today's hard-chargin' consumers in this fast-paced world deserve a brand nimble enough to keep up with them, or somethin' like that, in the words of Dunkin' marketers tryin' to upscale a place that for decades has turned a profit sellin' simple coffee-like beverages and food-like substances to bleary-eyed people just tryin' to get to work:

"By simplifying and modernizing our name, while still paying homage to our heritage, we have an opportunity to create an incredible new energy for Dunkin', both in and outside our stores," said Tony Weisman, Chief Marketing Officer, Dunkin' U.S. "We are bringing the iconic name Dunkin' to the forefront in a bold way that brings to life how we refill optimism with each cup and bring fun, joy and delight to our customers each and every day."

Thank God, they'll be keepin' their fluorescent pink and orange logo colors. And, the company admits, way down in its press release, they'll still sell those factory-crafted donuts and Munchkin's you will continue to scarf down.

If you feel an urgent need to try out one of the new Dunkin's, which the company says will let it continue to keep its brand relevant "for generations to come," there's already one on Washington Street in Roslindale, between the CVS and the Domino's, featurin' such 21st-century marvels as "an eight-headed tap system for cold beverages encouraging crew members to serve guests like bartenders, a glass bakery case putting donuts in the forefront within arm's reach of guests." It's mainly a drive-through, though, so to fully appreciate its wonders, park in the commodious lot and boldly walk right in.

New York Fashion Week: Katie Holmes, Tiffany Haddish, Julianne Moore and Danai Gurira at the Tory Burch Show

by Tom and Lorenzo
KV

what’s going on here

Is this #brunchgoals or what? Not just a lovely group of women to hang out with; but a well-styled one as well. What can we say? We’re shallow. They’re each working a highly distinct – and in some cases, pretty surprising – look. And they all look great together. We’d say the Tory Burch folks nailed this one.

Katie Holmes

While we don’t think the baptismal styling does the right things for it, this is a very “fashion week” sort of look and we think it has a stark chicness to it; one that probably deserves better hair and shoe choices. Still, it’s got that severely bold quality to it you want out of your front row attendees.

Tiffany Haddish

This is just straight-up spectacular. The silhouette, color story and textile are all being super-best friends to her right now. Tiff, we hope you got to keep this one.

Julianne Moore

There’s a big fashion-establishment push for sneakers this season and while we’d never suggest a lady not avail herself of a comfy trend, we think this combination is an extremely unfortunate one that automatically makes its wearer look positively octogenarian. The suit and blouse are pretty great. The kicks and bag, not so much.

Danai Gurira

To us, this is a more acceptable deployment of kicks, although we know mileage varies tremendously on that question. We think the silver in the sneaker works well with the star-spangled frock. It’s a cute look, even if it seems slightly off-model for her.

Mimosas and Bellinis are on us, ladies. Especially if we can get Katie to tell some Tom stories.

i hate literally everything about this and yet i find him captivating

Gotta give it up to this guy. We didn’t think he had it in him:

We still loathe turtlenecks and we tend to think this speaks way more of February than it does of September, but if nothing else, we’ve really got to hand it to him for working such a bold and unique look. His hair color isn’t natural, but this is a masterful and dramatic way to set off ginger coloring. Spiking it so wildly only adds to the effect. He looks like a chic video game character.

A Dingy 1950's Bungalow Gets A Fab Light-Filled Make-Over

by My Scandinavian Home
KV

it's really cute and they did a great job adding light and opening everything up but... i have to wonder what their ROI might be after removing an entire bedroom.

Sometimes I am so in awe of what can be achieved with a little vision. When interior designer and decor shop owner Kirstine and husband Steve acquired their 1950's bungalow in a small lakeside town just outside Toronto, Ontario Canada, it was dark and dingy and in desperate need of TLC. The couple completely gutted the space and spent a year transforming it into a wonderful open-plan, light-filled home on a budget for themselves, two cats and dog. I couldn't resist asking Kirstine a little more about the incredible transformation!

Before

// affiliated links marked with *//

 Original layout

What work have you carried out?
We did most of the renovation ourselves. It was a completely closed off layout until we gutted the entire place, drew up some design plans and converted it to an open concept kitchen / dining / living space with a vaulted ceiling.

Sinnerlig Pentant, Bamboo lights from Etsy*

Were you daunted by the sheer level of work?
I am interior designer and worked in the field for 5 years before I started my own business in decor rentals and running a decor shop. Steve used to work in construction, so we both have experience in renovating and we typically know what we'll find behind the walls. Having said that, it was the craziest most intense thing we've ever done - most people get married and have kids, we did this!!

I can imagine! What was your aim?
We loved the idea of the house being as bright as possible, as before it felt small and dark. Adding windows on the back as well as an exterior sliding door made this all possible.

After

How did you come up with the idea for the shelving?
The room divider was actually an idea I had, we have our cold air return vent in the wall and instead of just having a small half wall, or a tall typical 4" wall, I decided to make it a feature and something we could use. That's where the shelf divider came in.

There were some erm... quite strong colours when you moved in. What was your approach?
I wanted the entire house white, to really bounce around the natural light flow, with splashes of olour like in the bedroom and office.

IKEA kitchen cabinets painted in Racoon Fur by Benjamin Moore, KitchenAid hood

Where do you shop?
Most items in here are pieces I have come across while at antique stores or flea markets. Larger pieces, like the sofa are some Article.

Sven Charme Article sofa,  for a similar rug try the Kaya* (among others) from Anthropologie.

How would you describe your style?
I wanted a Scandinavian, bohemian vibe because I love a clean but colourful look.

Kirstine picked up the hutch cabinet at a thrift store.

The pair added the wood work detail themselves over the space of weekend. It's been painted in 'Malarca' from Home Depot. Source a similar jute rug here* and vintage swivel chairs here*.

What are you most happy with?
The natural light that flows through here is my favourite thing about this house - and the fact that we did it all ourselves!

The bedroom has been painted in Simply White with an accent behind the bed in Sherwood Forest, both by Benjamin Moore.

Thank you so much for showing us your fab bungalow Kirstine! I can't even begin to imagine the amount of work that's gone into it - but it was certainly worth it. Truly inspiring!

Can I just say, how cute is that dog?! He looks so happy on that rug too!

If you'd like to see more of Georgina's latest projects check out her IG feed - or enjoy a browse around her lovely online vintage shop!

I've shown a load of Scandinavian-inspired homes in Canada lately. In case you missed them - take a peek at the lovely home of Émilie Desjarlais,  Lauren's former Monteal apartment (and her latest home across the hallway) and Juli Baker's white and wood cabin. What a dreamy bunch of homes, don't you think?!

I'm on my way to Dover, England first thing tomorrow for a Scandinavian cruise. It sounds wonderful, I know, but just in case the man is reading this -  it's definitely not a jolly - I've been asked to hold two talks about Scandinavian Design! Eeeeek! Feeling the nerves!

To keep my mind off the talks, I'd love to hear if you've done any major renovations in your own home and how you found it?

Sadly I realise I won't have time to create a  blog post tomorrow - sorry! I'll definitely be back on Friday though!

today was... today was a tough one.

1/ Sen. Dianne Feinstein referred a letter to the FBI containing information about possible sexual misconduct between Brett Kavanaugh and a woman when the two were in high school. The letter is said to be from one of Feinstein's California constituents. Feinstein did not show the letter to any of her Democratic colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee. (Newsweek / The Intercept / NPR / BuzzFeed News)

  • Sen. Cory Booker released another batch of confidential documents related to Kavanaugh. The 28 new documents are from Kavanaugh's time in the Bush White House and show his involvement in judicial nominations. (NBC News / Politico)

  • The Senate Judiciary Committee delayed Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation vote until next week. (Washington Post)

2/ The Trump administration quietly redirected $200 million from various DHS programs to ICE accounts despite repeated congressional warnings of ICE's "lack of fiscal discipline" and "unsustainable" spending habits. Of the $200 million, $93 million will go toward immigrant detention and $107 million will go toward deportation expenses. The news comes a day after a financial document showed the administration diverted $10 million from FEMA to ICE in June. (CNN / NBC News)

3/ Meanwhile, the number of unaccompanied minors detained at the southern border has risen to a record high. Since last summer, the administration has increased by more than five-fold the number of children detained at federally contracted shelters dedicated to migrant children. This month, there were more than 12,800 children in custody, compared to 2,400 in May 2017. (New York Times)

4/ The DHS inspector general is investigating whether FEMA administrator Brock Long misused government vehicles during his commutes from Washington to North Carolina. The IG's office, which became interested in the case after one of Long's vehicles was involved in an accident, is looking into whether he misused government resources and personnel during his regular six-hour trips home. "When I left the Island, AFTER the storm had hit, they had anywhere from 6 to 18 deaths." He claimed Democrats added anyone who died for any reason to the list of hurricane-related deaths. He added: "I love Puerto Rico!" (New York Times / CNN / CNBC)

Notables.

  1. Trump has made 5,000 false or misleading claims during his time in office. His 5,000th claim came yesterday in the form of a tweet about Robert Mueller: "Russian ‘collusion’ was just an excuse by the Democrats for having lost the Election!" (Washington Post)

  2. An audio recording revealed the NRA gave Montana Sen. Jon Tester's opponent advance notice that it would be funding efforts to help defeat Tester in the midterms. The move could represent a violation of campaign finance laws, which legally bar the NRA from coordinating its ad buys with a federal campaign. (Daily Beast)

  4. A report from the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center found that a second round of GOP tax cuts would add $3.8 trillion to the federal deficit over the next two decades. Are You Afraid of the Dark? movie to tell original story

by theqinra

Gary Dauberman (The Nun, It: Chapter Two) discussed the screenplay for the upcoming 'Are You Afraid of the Dark' film; “It is a completely original story I came up with, but it still has the Midnight Society and it still has the campfire."

He also discussed making the movie scary for kids. “I didn’t want to age it down too much because for it’s time, it had some really disturbing episodes and some really dark episodes. Not every story the Midnight Society told ended with happily ever after or a person learning their lesson and it will never happen again. I really embraced that side of things and I think it’s been a long time. I think fear is healthy for kids. I don’t think we have to always sand down the edges of things and that’s something I really wanted to do with Are You Afraid of the Dark."

Stolen Ruby Slippers Recovered after 13-Year Search

I got caught

A pair of Ruby Slippers worn by Judy Garland in the iconic MGM film The Wizard of Oz have been recovered after 13 years. The pair, which were on loan from collector Michael Shaw to the Judy Garland Museum of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, were stolen in 2005 by an unknown thief who somehow avoided the museum's security system and stole the slippers from a glass display case. The 13-year investigation included countless leads, psychic predictions, documentary follow-ups (such as 2015's "The Slippers" and an episode of Expedition Unknown which aired just last month) and even a dive expedition in 2015 following a rumor that teenagers had stolen the shoes and thrown them into a local lake.

A tip received in 2017 led the FBI and local police team to follow a new lead which ended with the recovery of the slippers. The location of the stolen shoes, the identity of the alleged thief, and other details have not yet been released. More details on the recovery will be announced in a livestreamed press conference--1 PM CT--this afternoon. The press conference will be available at http://www.grandrapidsmn.com/.

These repositories—all of them free or relatively inexpensive to visit—include the Boston Fire Museum and the Boston’s oldest house

The Boston region is home to some of the world's most notable museums. But it also hosts some lesser-known institutions of collective preservation.

These include one of the oldest military museums on the continent and one of the nation's most prominent repositories of African-American history. This updated map pinpoints these and others, many of them free.

Nicki Minaj Doesn’t Have the Time, in Balmain on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”

gorgeous

Miss Nicki showed up ready to go.

We always bow down to any diva who shows up to a talk show with a walking-in and a walking-out ensemble, but there’s something to be said about a diva who shows up in full TV-ready hair, makeup, dress and jewelry, like she doesn’t have any time or interest in hanging out in some green room. Girlfriend’s here to do the work and go home.

It’s an okay look, to be honest. Dramatic for a talk show and well-suited to her, but not particularly memorable as Balmains go. We’re impressed with her sweat control skills, because that doesn’t look particularly lightweight and it’s been a humid sort of week.
