Double-take… I thought it was a sweetie of some sort. And it is, just not that kind… :-)

A bear, but not a Gummi one.

A great addition to your garden or back yard. - Bee watering station.

Bees need water just like we do but often times drown in open water. To make a bee watering station you can either do what is shown in the photo above and fill the bowl of a dog/cat watering jug with stones or you can fill a small dish with marbles and add water to that. That way the bees have something to land on!

KELLI

YES. I need to start a bee sanctuary.

This  is a cool idea!

Definitely a great idea to have a constant-feed waterer!! Fill it with stones/small rocks/marbles, even packing peanuts - just give them enough of an island to land on and stay dry so they can get a sip. :)

Yankees ballboy pockets Derek Jeter foul ball, hands fan random ball

by Rodger Sherman

The switcheroo might have earned this ballboy a sweet wad of cash.

The demand for Derek Jeter memorabilia is preposterously high. One Yankees' ballboy knew this, and took advantage by kinda skirting his job description (via Bleacher Report).

3d974ed829dcd0d3388b9cfab7432525.0.gif

Normally, his job would be to toss the recently hit ball into the stands, but instead he kept the ball in his glove while handing a random ball to a fan from his back pocket. This was a pretty wise decision. As ABC points out, the ball should have markings from MLB to prove its authenticity, and could be worth up to $10,000. Of course, there's a possibility he was acting on team orders to hold onto all Jeter balls or something, but we're hoping this was just an enterprising move on the ballboy's behalf.

If only he'd communicated how valuable Jeter foul balls were to the adorable little girl who chucked one back.

Am Not Sad, I Am Not Sick is now available as a PDF for digital download.

"I Am Not Sad, I Am Not Sick: An Autobio Zine" debuted at Twin Cities Zinefest 2013. It is a 15-page black-and-white zine based on mental and emotional struggles of the author.

Here it is on tumblr. It’s $3 (or pay-what-you-want on Gumroad!). I’ve cleaned it up quite a bit and added grey tones to give the drawings a bit more depth. It’s a very personal piece and I hope you’ll consider picking it up.

This zine does include references to self-harm and suicidal ideation.

This is so cute ‘cause I can imagine the crow being the talkative, friendly one and he’s just like “hi gosh wow you’re pretty I’ve never seen a white crow before! How’d ya get your feathers so white? Do you eat a lot of marshmallows? I eat a lot of marshmallows! This human lady feeds me marshmallows—” and on and on and the owl’s probably just like “What no go away”

Stephen Hawking: I'm an atheist - UPI.com

by gguillotte
"Before we understand science, it is natural to believe that God created the universe. But now science offers a more convincing explanation. What I meant by 'we would know the mind of God' is, we would know everything that God would know, if there were a God, which there isn't. I'm an atheist."

"whether you like him or not, he’s a good reminder of why the show has worked so well for decades"

yes, SNL has been a success for decades by only hiring the blandest black comedians with the worst timing OH WAIT

In a recent article, Grantland writer Rembert Browne referred to Kenan Thompson as an ”absurdist master”. He’s right. Kenan is the master of the strange, and whether you like him or not, he’s a good reminder of why the show has worked so well for decades.

After months of deliberations, Amtrak has finally announced the 24 winners of its inaugural Amtrak Residency for writers. Portland author Karen Karbo is among those selected. Karbo, who’s written 14 books, will join other award-winning writers from Seattle to New York City. The group — including bloggers, journalists and poets — earned free long-distance train trips the next year to work on writing projects. A few public radio contributors are among the line up: PRI’s The World host Marco Werman and Pop Culture Happy Hour panelist Glen Weldon.

Jon Bois is god beat

this is the most succinct review of Destiny I've seen, and it's by a guy who makes novelty posts for a sports blog

that's owned by Vox Media, who still employs Owen Good and still would rather publish Owen Good writing about Jon Bois than let Jon Bois take his fucking job

Destiny is gorgeous, but the gameplay feels about as thoughtful as pointing and clicking your way through the world's worst operating system. I play it and feel like I'm killing time, and that's an awful feeling.

Nintendo fans rage, profiteers rejoice over ultra-limited Hyrule Warriors edition | Ars Technica

Others expressed disappointment that Nintendo decided to distribute this limited edition only at its New York City retail store, even though similar limited-edition versions of the game in Europe and Japan were available at many geographically dispersed retailers. "Nintendo, why do you make stupid decisions?" begged one YouTuber in an eight-minute video decrying the decision.

by gguillotte
A Montana teacher was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison in a notorious student rape case that dragged on for years and led to the censure of a judge who partially blamed the victim. Stacey Dean Rambold, 55, was resentenced by a new judge exactly a year after he completed an initial one-month prison term for the crime.

The U.S. Justice Department asked the Ferguson, Missouri, Police Department on Friday to order its officers not to wear bracelets with the name of the white officer who shot and killed an unarmed black teenager last month, sparking protests. In a letter to Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson, the Justice Department said residents had told federal investigators that officers policing protest sites on Tuesday in Ferguson were seen wearing "I am Darren Wilson" bracelets.

Teen Worker Forced to Wear Homophobic Slur on Name Tag at Popular Taco Chain - Yahoo News

by gguillotte
On the night of June 23, the night manager called Brandt into his office and handed him a new name tag to wear, said the teen. The tag read “Gaytard,” with a heart on either side of the word. “He [the manager] said, ‘Wear this!’ with a huge grin on his face, like he was really proud of himself,” Brandt said in a statement. Afraid of losing his job, Brandt put the name tag on and was forced to wear it throughout his shift. Brandt said he tried to hide it behind the register when he was serving customers, but his manager did everything he could to call attention to the hurtful tag by saying things like “Hey, Gaytard, help this customer!” and “Take out the trash, Gaytard!”
