Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees Cereals Now Available from FYE, Online and In Store

by John Squires

Both cereals turn your milk blood red!

As we recently told you, Funko just launched a brand new line of cereals, with Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees being two of the first pop culture characters to get their own. This week we’ve learned that both cereals are now up for grabs exclusively through FYE! You can grab them in stores or through FYE’s website, where they’re selling for $12.99 each.

Sure, that’s a bit steep for a box of cereal, but we must remind that each box comes with a mini-sized POP! vinyl figure of the horror icon of your choice. And besides, is any price too high for Freddy and Jason cereal?! I mean come on. These are treasures at even $20 a pop.

Funko recently detailed the cereal line…

“Funko, purveyors of pop culture and all things awesome, is committed to helping you start the day off right by putting the fun back in breakfast with FunkO’s. And as we all know from Saturday morning commercials; every breakfast starts with a bowl of brightly colored cereal that comes out of a box with a really cool mascot on the front and a prize inside!

Funko is kicking off this summer with six new FunkO’s cereals, each guaranteed to turn your milk a different amazing color. Funko has no shortage of beloved mascots that already feature largely in the Funkoverse as Pop! vinyl figures and other collectibles. Now these pop culture icons will join you for breakfast!

In July, Mega Man FunkO’s will be available at GameStop, Cuphead & Mugman FunkO’s will be available at Hot Topic, Freddy FunkO’s will be available through Funko,Nightmare On Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger FunkO’s and Friday the 13th’s Jason FunkO’s will be available at FYE, and The Lord of the Rings FunkO’s featuring Gollum will be available at BoxLunch. Additional cereals will continue to be added throughout the year for your snacking pleasure.

And of course, to put the fun back in breakfast, each box contains a collectible prize, making the boxes as much fun to collect as they are to eat! You’ll find a collectible figure inside every box of FunkO’s, so you’re going to want two boxes – one to taste, and one to display on your shelf with your Pop! collection.”

Beetlejuice, Elvira and Pennywise cereals are planned for the near future.

for amelia

Diane Lane (Unfaithful, Under the Tuscan Sun) is set to star in FX’s “Y” pilot, its long-gestating drama based on the acclaimed post-apocalyptic science fiction DC comic book series “Y: The Last Man”, reports Deadline. Barry Keoghan (pictured in The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Dunkirk), Imogen Poots (Green Room, Frank & Lola), Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel, Bulletproof), Juliana Canfield (Succession) and Marin Ireland (Sneaky Pete, Hell or High Water) round out the ensemble cast.

Based on the DC Comics series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, “Y” traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event has decimated every male mammal save for one lone human. The new world order of women will explore gender, race, class and survival.

Lane will play Senator Jennifer Brown. A Junior Senator in her first term, Senator Brown has already made a name for herself in political circles for her willingness to put personal ideals above politics. She is also the mother of Yorick and Hero Brown.

Keoghan is Yorick Brown, a young man quick to use humor to deflect from his problems who may be the lone male survivor of a worldwide plague.

Poots will play Hero Brown. A tough and confident EMT, Hero nurses a deep emotional trauma that often leads her to cross personal and professional lines.

Lynch is Agent 355, a Secret Service agent who performs the duties of her job with the utmost professionalism, even under the most unexpected set of circumstances.

Canfield will play Beth. A Brooklyn-based knife maker, Beth grew up on a farm and went to New York to experience the big city. She finds something endearing about the hapless Yorick and when they’re together, there’s the undeniable spark of two kids in love.

Ireland portrays Nora, the President’s senior assistant and right hand. She effortlessly balances family life with a job navigating the corridors of power.

Michael Green (American Gods, Blade Runner 2049, Logan) and Aïda Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage, Turn) serve as Showrunners and Executive Producers. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force (American Crime Story, Pose, The Hunger Games) and Brian K. Vaughan are Executive Producers and developed the series. Melina Matsoukas (Insecure, Master of None, Beyonce: Formation) directed the pilot episode and also serves as Executive Producer. Y is produced by FX Productions.

“Y: The Last Man” is a 60-issue science fiction comic book series published beginning in 2002. It received three Eisner Awards, and received the first Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story for Y: The Last Man, Volume 10.

Joaquin Phoenix's Joker spin-off movie is actually happening

this feels like WB hedging their DCU bets against two different joker actors (the other being jared leto, who supposedly has additional movie deals as the joker moving forward) so they can hopefully catch more christian-bale-as-batman lightning in a bottle and roll with one or the other as a DCU staple goin forward. just one man's opinion.

Just in case you thought today’s news couldn’t get any funnier, The Hollywood Reporter is Hollywood reporting that Warner Bros. has officially given the proverbial green light to a movie about the Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix. This is a separate project from Jared Leto’s Joker movie, which got a green light of its…

The 13 Scariest Movie Witches!

by Meagan Navarro
Emahlstadt

shared for the princess mombi mention, but also for the other gems...

Between the news of a remake of Roald Dahl’s The Witches, Ryan Murphy’s Coven crossover for the next season of American Horror Story, the upcoming Suspiria remake, and Netflix’s forthcoming Chilling Adventures of Sabrina series, 2018 is shaping up to be the Year of the Witch. It’s about time, too. While trends of vampires, zombies, and ghosts have all hogged the spotlight at one time or another, witches tend to exist more in the peripheral of horror. Considering the concept of witchcraft has spanned all recorded history, existing in all manner of cultures and religions, there’s a wide area of potential still waiting to be mined.  Even still, there are many memorable movie witches that have etched themselves in collective memory. These 13 are the scariest witches of them all.

Grand High Witch – The Witches

The remake has very tall shoes to fill from this 1990 adaptation. Played by Anjelica Huston, the film version of the Grand High Witch was far more fierce and fearsome than the version in Dahl’s source novel. A child-murderer with genocidal ambitions, the Grand High Witch is a powerful psychopath. Her penchant to kill at whim makes everyone around her cower in fear, and yet it gets worse with the reveal of her true appearance. Monstrous inside and out, the Grand High Witch remains pure nightmare fuel for children and adults alike.

Asa Vajda – Black Sunday

A 17th-century witch in the service of Satan, her own brother condemned her to a brutal death. Of course, she cursed his family line for it. Revived two centuries later by blood, Asa wastes no time enacting vengeance. Continuing to feast on blood for sustenance, she murders Vajda family members while setting her sights on descendent Katia with the intention of stealing her youth. Played by Barbara Steele, Asa’s ruthless affinity for Satanism was very daring for its time upon release in 1960.

Witches – Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages

A silent documentary with fictional reenactments of witchcraft was controversial upon release in 1922 for its depiction of gore, nudity, and Satan loving witchcraft. It was an exploration of superstition of religion, delving into what created the persecution of “witches,” but director Benjamin Christensen took his time to get to the point with long, fictional sequences featuring demons, spooky rituals, and Satan himself.

Mombi – Return to Oz

For a children’s film, this one is extremely dark. Opening with Dorothy’s return home, her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry decide to bring her in for electric shock therapy. Dorothy escapes and makes her way back to Oz, which has become a very different place. The Cowardly Lion and Tin Woodman are now turned to stone, and creepy Wheelers roam free. All of this alone would be nightmare inducing for anyone, but then they introduce Princess Mombi. Mombi is an evil woman with a large collection of heads. Yes, heads. When Mombi wants to update her look, she just goes to her closet and swaps out her head with another from her collection. Dorothy’s encounter with Mombi’s head collection earns Mombi an instant ranking for scariest witch.

Meg Mucklebones – Legend

This swamp witch had a brief but memorable turn in Ridley Scott’s 1985 dark fantasy film; no small feat considering what an iconic villain Tim Curry was as the Lord of Darkness. Plucky hero Jack (Tom Cruise) encounters this witch in the middle of a swamp during his quest to save his love. Despite her horrendous appearance Jack distracts her with flattery. Who ever said flattery doesn’t get you anywhere hasn’t met Meg. This unforgettable and terrifying swamp witch was played by Robert Picardo (Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Stargate Atlantis).

The Blair Witch – The Blair Witch Project

Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez reminded audiences what could happen if audiences are kept in the dark about its villain. After delivering exposition on the legends surrounding the witch that inhabits the woods of Burkittsville, Maryland, before letting loose a trio of would-be filmmakers into her domain, the Blair Witch manages to petrify based on atmosphere and dread alone. She never even dares to make an appearance! As the trio continues to run into signs that she’s lurking nearby, before disappearing one by one, the viewer’s imagination is left to fill in the blanks. It works like a charm.

Helena Markos – Suspiria

For most of Suspiria’s run time, Helena Markos exists only as a looming shadow over the dance academy. Her presence is concealed by her coven, with Madame Blanc acting as head of the academy. By the time Suzy Bannion discovers her hidden chambers the Mother of Sighs is in a weakened state, making it much easier for Suzy to defeat the once super powerful witch. Even still, it doesn’t dampen her ability to petrify. Especially when Suzy’s schoolmates around her suffer horrible deaths at the hands of Helena’s coven.

Haggis – Pumpkinhead

Also known as the Old Witch of the Woods, Haggis is more terrifying than the vengeance demon Pumpkinhead. When a tragic accident claims the life of Ed Harley’s young son, he seeks out Haggis in the hope that she can revive him. Instead, she presented Ed with the opportunity for revenge, conducting a ritual for the demon’s summoning, while wickedly withholding just how costly Ed’s quest for justice would become. Haggis teaches a valuable lesson in reading the fine print before buying. More importantly, never make a deal with a witch.

The Castevets – Rosemary’s Baby

Witches are typically presented as monstrous women who long ago sold their services and soul to Satan; their appearances gnarly, wizened, and grotesque. Enter Minnie and Roman Castevet, the nosy but nice next-door neighbors to Rosemary and Guy Woodhouse. As affluent as they are social, with well-tailored clothes in fashionable prints and styles, they’re representative of upper-class New York. In other words, no one would suspect them of witchcraft. Their cheerful demeanor as they use Rosemary to usher in the son of Satan is alarming, but not as alarming as the fact that their ability to blend with society deconstructs the very idea of what a witch should look like.

Bathsheba Sherman – The Conjuring

In life, she was an evil woman caught red-handed trying to sacrifice her own week-old baby to the Devil. She then promptly cursed the land and hung herself. In death, Bathsheba continued her quest by possessing the mother of any that moved into her house and using them to kill their own children. If that wasn’t grisly enough, the spirits of Bathsheba’s victims are forced to remain in the house with her.

Margaret Morgan – The Lords of Salem

While there are a few witches in Rob Zombie’s film that could qualify as scary, none hold a candle to coven leader Margaret Morgan (Meg Foster). These Satanic worshipping witches are not to be trifled with. Even the small glimpses of her that haunts Heidi’s visions is enough to warrant “scariest witch” status, but the reveal that Heidi’s fate was never in her control thanks to Margaret’s curse is both tragic and horrifying. Margaret cares not for bathing, hygiene, or really anything other than ensuring she gets a vessel by which the devil’s child will inherit the earth.

The Witch in the woods – The Witch

While Robert Eggers’ film may have been more about the deterioration of an exiled New England family, the witch residing in the nearby woods was the stuff of nightmares. When baby Samuel is snatched very early in the film, we see the witch grinding up his body and rubbing his entrails all over his body. It’s chilling. When Caleb gets lost in the woods later, her seduction of him turns from skin-crawling dread to unsettling fear, especially when we see the aftermath. If this is what it means to live deliciously, I think I’ll take a hard pass.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe

If you have yet to see this supernatural spookfest, you should correct that right now. I’ll wait. I’m about to head into major spoiler territory, so this is your last warning. The claustrophobic plot follows father and son coroner duo Tommy and Austin Tilden as they work through the mysterious cause of death of a Jane Doe brought in by the local sheriff. The further they go in their autopsy; the weirder things get in their morgue. The more Jane Doe’s body reveals weird trauma within, the more supernatural forces try to thwart the Tildens. Major Spoiler: the Tilden’s finally realize Jane Doe isn’t dead at all. A victim of the Salem witch trials and subjected to multiple horrific rituals, the Salem authorities created the very thing they were trying to destroy. Jane Doe is a living witch enacting revenge to any that crosses her path, even centuries later.

Unless the team is pulling a very elaborate stunt, this is most likely Hammond, the next hero to join the game.

Here’s the Fallout 76 multiplayer video from Bethesda’s E3 showcase

by Stephany Nunneley
Emahlstadt

yes plz

Here’s another Fallout 76 video shown during the Bethesda E3 2018 showcase.

The Fallout 76 multiplayer announcement video from Bethesda’s E3 2018 showcase has been released, and it’s a mix of both gameplay and Vault-Tec goodness.

Titled You Will Emerge, the video brought to you by Valut-Tec, touches on creating a character with the S.P.E.C.I.A.L system and playing with others or alone across various locations in the game.

The online multiplayer game is a prequel to the series, and is four times the size of Fallout 4. And don’t worry, while you can nuke areas of the game, other players can’t target you specifically.

As previously reported, launching nukes in Fallout 76 isn’t as easy  and it’s an end-game goal because all the flora and fauna in the area struck by the nuke will temporarily change to a higher level. Sounds like it would probably be good to have other players helping you at that point.

Fallout 76 releases November 14 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Those who pre-order will automatically receive access to the beta when live, but it will arrive first on Xbox One.

Fallout 76 E3 2018 demo Welcome to West Virginia was released earlier today. You can watch it through the link.

Bethesda Shows Off ‘Fallout 76’ Gameplay in New Video

...aaaaaand i'm all in.

Try as I might, I’ve still got reservation for Fallout 76. In spite of all of the cool possibilities with it being online, and being able to join up with your buddies and build your own little spot in the wasteland, I’m still inclined to want a well-developed single-player experience with an engrossing story.

Of course, I say of this, and Bethesda goes and releases a brand new three-minute gameplay video entitled “Welcome to West Virginia”. And man does it looks good. We even get voiceover from Todd Howard from this year’s E3 talking up Virginia, and all of the cool goodies Bethesda has in store. Still no sign of the Mothman, though.

Fallout 76 is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 14.

GTFO is the most terrifying co-op horror shooter since Left 4 Dead

by David Jagneaux

I’ve had a few demos over the years at various E3 shows in which I felt like I wasn’t really fully prepared.

Sometimes a game is just wildly different than I expected or ends up being more difficult or nuanced than I thought. But in the case of GTFO I had a game that I already knew about and was fully aware of what the team was going for. I’d seen the trailers, I’d done my research, and I thought I was ready.

And still, I wasn’t ready.

GTFO is one of the most tense and palm-sweatingly exciting games I’ve played this side of Left 4 Dead. The premise is simple: you and up to three others take on the role of scavengers that have been sent down into the depths of underground complexes to extract valuable artefacts. Before heading out on an expedition, you can pick your loadout of weapons, which includes a primary weapon, like an SMG or Assault Rifle, a secondary weapon, such as a Shotgun, a tool of some kind, such as proximity mines or an enemy scanner, and a melee weapon, like a sledgehammer. All of those are equipped to the 1-4 key on the keyboard with the 5 key used to equip your health or ammo packs.

When we first landed inside the complex the three developers from 10 Chambers Collective I had on my team walked me through the basics. Our objective was to locate zone Z24. Painted up high on the walls I could see that we’d started in a different zone, so we needed to start out by figuring out where the right zone was. Since GTFO is such a hardcore-style game, it’s not as simple as just going to a waypoint.

In fact, you don’t even start with a filled-in map at all. One of the tools you can take with you on missions is a mapping device that you use by pointing it in a direction and activating it. It sends out signal waves that detect where walls are and slowly fills in gaps on your map in the direction you’re pointed. It’ll also show red dots where enemies are located.

The developers told me that there is actually a dedicated enemy scanning device as well, but no one on our team was smart enough to actually select that tool. Probably not that useful, right?

My tool was a set of proximity mines. I could walk up to a wall or any surface, press and hold E, and then have a mine appear with a red laser across to the next surface. If an enemy broke the laser line then – boom! – explosion time. These were great near the end of the mission to set up around us at entry points when we knew we were about to trigger a flood of enemies.

Another teammate had a glue gun equipped which sounds incredibly lame, but was actually very useful. Using the gun he could shoot out large globs of white goo to clog up doors and keep them shut for an extended period of time. It can even trap enemies as well. Trapping enemies in the goo and then running up to blast them with my shotgun was a fun way to combine our skill-sets together.

Since GTFO is a horror-themed co-op shooter, that means a heavy focus on creepy, horrifying creatures, lots of darkness, slow-moving sneaking across levels, and an overall palpably tense atmosphere. The thin layer of fog throughout the underground complex did a great job of lending a strong sense of isolation and mystery to everything.

I spent a lot of time with my pinky on the left Ctrl key to crouch, slowly creeping around corners. Most of the time once we cleared a room it was safe, but sometimes we’d miss stragglers that could give us trouble if we weren’t ready.

A big part of what makes GTFO so intense is just how relentless the enemies are. In my demo I saw three different types. The most basic enemy, referred to as Sleepers, would just stand in one spot or even potentially lay on the ground, in wait. If they were alerted by sound, light, or some other cue then they’d all awake in unison and come charging for us. But if you’re quiet, you can easily sneak up and take them out with a melee weapon.

The second enemy was the most frustrating and terrifying of the bunch – the Scout. These bastards didn’t pose much of a threat on their own, but if they were alerted then they’d screech and summon even more Sleepers to swarm the entire group. If you can take out the Scout quickly before it alerts the swarm, then you’re usually in good shape and only need to deal with the enemies already in the room.

However, dealing with a Scout isn’t as simple as just keeping your distance. From time-to-time the creatures will freeze while standing, open their mouth/head in a strange distortion, and reach out with thin, white tendrils in an effort to seek out prey. If any of those tendrils find you, then that sets off the monster alarm and you’re screwed.

Which leads us to the third enemy type. I didn’t catch what these were called but they’re large, hulking masses of decaying flesh that can reach out with a massive, thick, red tongue-like tentacle that grabs you and pulls you in. It’s disgusting and I don’t recommend it. These big guys can take a lot of bullets, but you’ve got to focus on taking them down quickly before they wreak too much havoc.

What I loved about my time with GTFO is that even the most basic Sleeper enemies are terrifying in their own way. They’re so incredibly fast and love to mix crawling with running in such effortless ways that it’s often very tough to line up a good, clean shot. That’s probably why I loved using my shotgun so much.

Scattered throughout the level are terminals that you can hack to find loot like ammo and health packs. There were even a handful of basic little puzzle moments here and there. One door, for example, wouldn’t open unless we stood in a specified bio-cleansing zone until the percentage completion bar is full. That wouldn’t be such an issue except for the fact that all four of us had to be in the zone simultaneously and we were getting swarmed by enemies from all sides.

At the very end of the demo one of my teammates had to carry a decontamination tank on his back, rendering him unable to use weapons, while the cave was slowly being pumped full of toxic gas. Being exposed to the gas was harmful, so we had to all stay in a tight-knit group around the tank-carrying buddy as we slowly made our way back through the complex.

This is where my journey ended slightly prematurely as we got overrun without warning. I was still hurting from the last fight, no one had a med kit, and the swarms were just too much for us to handle.

The devs told me that GTFO uses a sort of hand-crafted meets procedural system to craft maps in the game so they still have a high quality feel over some of the more hodge-podge procedural systems out there.

The easiest comparison to make is Left 4 Dead, but GTFO also owes debt to Killing Floor, with a little scavenging and puzzles thrown in for good measure. But when the lights are down, the meds are thin and the tension is ramped up, GTFO is certainly shaping up to be one of the most tense and explosive co-op shooters around.

never seen any of these... might have to go back and check 'em out.

Is there anything more gauche than being late for the Purge? After all, we’ve all had that awkward experience of seeing someone wander into a legal crime party after all the good murders and tax evasions have been taken, and then having to just kind of uncomfortably mill about, occasionally pirating an episode of

A Primer on Comic Book Badass Cassie Hack, Horror’s Ultimate Final Girl

by Dave Richards
Emahlstadt

i love hack/slash. clever concept that functions as a b-grade love letter to horror fans.

Horror films are filled with examples of the “Final Girl” trope and for a good reason. It’s fascinating to watch seemingly average woman weather the rampage of an unstoppable killer, and then rise up and take down the homicidal maniac. Unfortunately though, with rare exceptions, horror films often leave out one of the most compelling aspects of the Final Girl’s journey; what happens *after* they’ve taken down the killer? Where do they go next? And what kind of life can they have after confronting unspeakable death and horrors?

It takes a more serialized medium to address those questions, and for the past 14 years creator Tim Seeley has been making the most of the four color world of comics to chronicle the exploits of Cassandra “Cassie” Hack; a Final Girl who travels the country putting an end to undead serial killers known as Slashers. The series is a love letter to both great Slasher films like the original Halloween and awesomely bad ones. So it blends both humor and horror together into an incredibly fun story cocktail.

Cassie’s journey began in 2004’s Hack/Slash: Euthanized, a one-shot from Devil’s Due publishing by writer Seeley and artist Stefano Caselli where readers were introduced to Cassie and her best friend and partner in Slasher slaying, Vlad. Vlad is kind of like Jason Voorhees if he was found and raised by a kind person. So he’s quite fearsome to his enemies, but to his friends, he’s a gentle giant.

More one-shots followed Cassie and Vlad’s debut. They then moved to a mini-series, and eventually their own ongoing one. They’ve mostly battled original killers but over the years they’ve crossed paths with a number of famous and fan favorite faces from horror films like Chucky, Victor Crowley from the Hatchet series, Ash from Evil Dead and Herbert West of Re-Animator fame. Cassie and Vlad’s four-color adventures have also led to crossovers with a number of horror comic icons like Evil Ernie and Vampirella.

So there are a multitude of Hack/Slash adventures awaiting new and curious fans as well as lapsed ones who may have fallen out of touch with the title character. That may seem intimidating to readers wondering where to start, but don’t worry we’re here to help! I’m going to give you a number of entry points that will get you up to speed pretty quickly.

Perhaps the easiest entry point is to head to your local comic store because a new series Hack/Slash Resurrection was recently launched by Image Comics. For this new volume, Seeley plays the role of editor/executive producer overseeing his handpicked creative team of writer Tini Howard and artist Celor. The first volume of the new series is available in collected graphic novel form and is perfect for new readers. Seeley and Howard have also designed the series next arc, which kicks off June 27th in Hack/Slash Resurrection #8, as a great jumping on point for new readers. It reteams Cassie and Vlad with Vampirella.

So if you want to jump in and start reading Cassie’s adventures feel free. Howard, Seeley, and Celor are crafting brand new adventures that showcase everything that make Cassie and Vlad great as well as expertly blending horror and humor. You can get caught up on their past adventures whenever you like.

For those looking to start at the beginning, Image Comics has the perfect solution. Cassie’s original adventures are collected in five Hack/Slash Omnibus collections. These collections contain all the Hack/Slash one-shots, mini-series, and all of Cassie’s previous ongoing series from Devil’s Due Publishing and Image Comics, as well as the various special issues that crossed over with other comic and horror movie characters.

In 2014, following the end of Cassie’s original Image Comics series, Seeley’s brother Steve teamed with co-writer Michael Moreci and artist Emilio Laiso for a mini-series titled Hack/Slash: Son of Samhain. It’s set after the original series and finds Cassie battling a new horror while teaming with a brand new partner. It has a decidedly different feel to it since it involves subterranean monsters. It works though because Cassie is almost a modern day pulp horror style hero in the series. It’s also available in collected graphic novel form.

All of the issues and graphic novels I’ve talked about are available digitally from places like Comixology.com or your local comic shop. I personally recommend the comic store. It allows you to feel good supporting a local business and the store’s staff may be able to introduce you to some other horror stories that you’d like. Plus, most reputable stores offer pull-list services where they’ll set aside the comics you want and you can come pick them up at your own convenience.

So now you have a number of ways to enjoy the past and present-day exploits of one of horror comics most enduring icons and a great example of what can be done with the Final Girl trope in a serialized medium. I’ve been a fan of Cassie Hack and Vlad since the beginning and I predict that no matter where you start with their adventures, you will be as well.
