started watching this last night. first episode was fantastic. i fell asleep at some point in the 2nd half of the 2nd episode, but will pick it back up ASAP.

Real talk: The Boys is about how superheroes are bad. In fact, the most shocking reveals of The Boys are when people turn out to be somewhat good. The Amazon Prime Video drama rolls around in this ethos like a pig in mud, to a degree where one might almost question why we even care about the super-powered.

The Spine-Tingling Trailer for Star Trek: Picard

by Jason Kottke
Emahlstadt

man, i sure wish they hadn't gone with the "young-girl-who-has-powers-she-doesn't-understand-and-needs-a-father-figure" route. that shit was already the most played-out sci-fi trope ever when firefly did it.

Here I was, flying along fat, dumb, and happy (like my dad used to say), not really wanting or needing any more The Next Generation-era Star Trek or Jean-Luc Picard in my life and now this. How could I have been so mindless? This trailer got me so fired up for Star Trek: Picard — the Borg! Data in a drawer! a potty-mouthed Seven of Nine! — that I am practically levitating. Nostalgia is death — inject it directly into my veins.

Longhorns land pledge from 3-star Utah SDE Van Fillinger

by Cody Daniel
Emahlstadt

at least we've cracked the top 20 now. things are looking slightly better, but still losing in-state to the fucking ags.

Twitter: @van_filli

The Longhorns have added one of the West Coast’s top edge rushers to the #cloUT2020 class.

For the second time in as many days, the Texas Longhorns have added a tremendous talent in the trenches.

After securing a much-needed commitment on Wednesday from elite in-state defensive tackle Vernon Broughton, Thursday provided Tom Herman’s program with a pledge from Draper (Utah) Corner Canyon strong-side defensive end Van Fillinger, he announced on Twitter:

“After a very long and thought out discussion with my family and with my coaches, I really feel as if I’m making the best decision to get an elite education and to fulfill my potential on the field,” Fillinger wrote in his Twitter announcement. “With that being said, I am 100% committed to The University of Texas at Austin.”

A three-star talent, Fillinger toured the Forty Acres twice this summer, including a trip to Austin in early June, which led to him earning an offer from the Horns. Just a couple short weeks later, Fillinger named Texas in his top six on June 24, alongside Utah, UCLA, Oregon, Ohio State, and Michigan. At the time, Michigan and Oregon were considered headliners in Fillinger’s recruitment, but, of course, in fewer than a full month, Texas managed to not only swing things entirely in its favor, but earn his commitment.

Within the 24 hours prior to his pledge, nearly 10 Crystal Ball picks poured in projecting Fillinger to pick the Horns.

A 6’3.5, 250 pounds, Fillinger provides solid size on the strong side, though he often plays inside, where what appears to be an already-developed frame could hinder him at the Power 5 level. Elsewhere, though, there’s a lot to like about Fillinger. He displays advanced technique at the point of attack, utilizing his length and hands exceptionally well to shed blocks and shoot gaps. Other times, he displays an ability to simply apply force and push his blocker backwards. Fillinger dissects plays well and in short order, and when he arrives, he does so with a purpose.

As a junior, Fillinger utilized this skill set to amass 71 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and five sacks as part of an effort that led Corner Canyon to a state championship. He’s since recored a remarkable SPARQ rating of 112.05 at The Opening Regional in Oakland behind a 4.94 40-yard dash, a 31.7-inch vertical leap, and a 4.25-second 20-yard shuttle time.

Fillinger is ranked as the nation’s No. 373 prospect overall and as the No. 18 strong-side defensive end, per the 247Sports Composite. The first out-of-state addition to the 2020 class, Fillinger provides Texas with its 10th pledge to date and lifts the Longhorns’ class to No. 20 nationally and No. 2 in the Big 12.

Mike Gundy on Oklahoma’s Big 12 dominance: ‘Somebody’s got to take it from them’

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: DEC 01 Big 12 Championship Game - Oklahoma v Texas Photo by Matthew Visinsky/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Until proven otherwise, the Big 12 is Oklahoma’s league, but the Longhorns enter 2019 in the best position to snap the Sooners’ streak of conference championships.

46 wins. Three College Football Playoff appearances. Four Big 12 Championships.

The Oklahoma Sooners have served as the premium program in the Big 12 throughout the recent years, and it hasn’t been relatively close.

That isn’t expected to change in 2019.

Though the Longhorns, still fairly fresh off of the program’s first 10-win season since 2009, did secure nine first-place picks in the Big 12 Preseason Media Poll, Oklahoma is still far-and-away the favorite, with 68 votes favoring the Sooners to once again secure the league’s top spot. And Oklahoma isn’t going to simply relent its throne atop the Big 12 — someone, whether it be Texas, Iowa State, TCU, or any other conference headliner, will have to take it from them, as Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy noted during Big 12 Media Days.

“They’ve got good players. The last couple of years they’ve had average quarterback play and they’ve overcome it,” Gundy said. “So they’ve been very successful and somebody’s got to take it from them. That question came up a few years ago about Alabama and the SEC and my response was, and somebody from another league needs to beat ‘em and take it from them and I think it’s the same in dealing with Oklahoma.”

To that end, if a team is to take the title from Oklahoma in the coming months, Texas is the likely favorite to do so. Virtually every prominent publication has the Horns entering the 2019 slate ranked among the top 15 nationally, and most have Texas positioned within the top 10. Maybe more notably, Texas, at long last, enters the year featuring a proven passer in junior Sam Ehlinger, who was dubbed as the Big 12 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, and he’ll be surrounded by a unique blend of experience and still-untapped upside at the skill positions. Texas’ defense, of course, has questions to answer after losing all but two starters — Brandon Jones and Caden Sterns, who may prove to be the best safety duo in college football — but as recent seasons in Norman have revealed, one can find ways to win in the Big 12 with a sub-par defensive unit, should it come to that in Austin.

And even beyond the rankings and returning talent, recent outings indicate that Texas can stand toe-to-toe with Oklahoma.

In 2017, Texas owned a 24-23 edge with under eight minutes remaining in the Red River Showdown before a late rally effort fell just shy, 29-24. Last season, the Longhorns avenged their Red River loss with a thrilling 48-45 win in a game that was entirely lopsided in Texas’ favor ahead of the fourth quarter. In any case, that win paved the way for the two bitter rivals’ first rematch in a single season in more than an entire century — this time around, with the 2018 Big 12 Championship at stake. Once again, Texas stood toe-to-toe with the back-to-back-to-back Big 12 champs, taking a 27-27 tie into the fourth quarter before being outscored 12-0 to cap a 39-27 Oklahoma win.

For better or worse, each instance could have quite easily went the other way, but, of course, close doesn’t equate to conference championships. For that title to change hands, someone will have to take it from Oklahoma, and if anyone is going to do so in 2019, it’s likely Texas.

i need the opposite, a pared-down tv-only version would be great. something for ~$150 that can play a handful of the latest and greatest nintendo titles. oh well.

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

Nintendo reveals its next console, and we even have a peek at Samsung's next Galaxy Note. There's also a new update for Google's AI-powered Translate camera, and the last Windows 10 preview is testing a post-password lifestyle. It's Thursday.

neat

B-box is a beehive designed for use in close proximity to humans, like near your house or in an urban environment. It does this by separating the honey part of the hive from the area where the bees live and limiting their access to the hive through an entrance more than seven feet above the ground. Check out this video for details:

The makers of the B-box are seeking funding for the project on Indiegogo. Very tempting! (via colossal)

What if “Stranger Things” Was Based on the Nostalgia of Other Decades?

by Witney Seibold
Emahlstadt

how about this: what if stranger things was based on a solid, cohesive narrative and good storytelling overall, rather than on the cheap and fleeting rush of nostalgia.

The third season of Stranger Things debuted on Netflix on the 4th of July, and, wow, is it more ’80s than ever. The neon colors, the loud hairdos, and the mall-bound settings all evoke a time that Gen-Xers recall with fondness and that Millennials can absorb vicariously. The show’s creators, The Duffer Bros., were born in 1984, and they drew from their experiences watching 1980s properties like Poltergeist, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, The Goonies, Ghostbusters, and a host of others. 1980s nostalgia is, of course, very hip in 2019, and the decade’s media is, generally speaking experiencing a glorious resurgence in the horror marketplace (how many recent indie horror films have John Carpenter-like musical scores? More than a few).

But the culture’s current focus on the pop media of the 1980s must be, by its very nature, ephemeral, and our nostalgia will most certainly reset after a certain number of years. This naturally makes the curious mind wander over what Stranger Things might look like were it based in horror nostalgia from other decades. Each decade, after all, is rife with its own rich horror traditions, and each one could easily make for a Stranger Things-like series unto itself. Since we’re all curious here, let’s go ahead and conduct that thought experiment, shall we?

We begin with Stranger Things in the 1930s…

Stranger Things of the 1930s would have to look like it was produced by Carl Laemmle, Jr., and directed by James Whale. It would be a 65-minute film version of Stranger Things, and would star a group of young people; college students but played by actors in their early 40s. The characters, all square and bland, would stumble into a castle-like government lab – a spooky edifice made of stone and lit by torches – looking for their vanished friend Will. Will’s mother would be played by a hysterical Una O’Connor. Instead, they would find Eleven (a Zita Johann from The Mummy-type) lurking therein. Eleven would be taken back to the local European duchy, learn about the way’s of humanity from a wise old scientist (a Boris Karloff type), fall in love with a slick-haired society man, but end up going on a psychic killing spree nonetheless. Stranger Things would climax back in the lab where Eleven was found, and she would be killed by a rogue bolt of lightning that came down from a hole in the roof. The force of the lightning would cause Will to reappear.

Stranger Things in the 1940s…

The horror trends of the 1940s were based heavily in classic literature, as they were imitating a lot of the success of 1930s horror films (Dracula, et al). As such, the 1940s Stranger Things would pay homage to producer Val Lewton, and appear to come out of RKO. It would be inspired very directly by, say, Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights. Set in Haiti, Eleven (a Simone Simon type), is a local psychic who runs her own business reading minds and floating objects for wealthy travelers. She is the analogue for Catherine. Will, a bitter local raised in luxury and suffering from lung ailments, is the stand-in for Heathcliff. Will’s mother is, in this version of things, an embittered Miss Havisham type (who, I know, is from Great Expectations; don’t @ me). When Will is sucked into The Upside Down by an ancient local curse, Catherine is destitute and flees into the arms of Dustin (a Dwight Frye-in-his-final-role-type). Fast-forward a generation, and Eleven’s young daughter, also psychic, makes good with Will’s less bitter son. Will returns just in time to see the inter-generational reconciliation. The last shot is a Demogorgon eating Will.

Stranger Things in the 1950s…

The supreme shock sensation of our time! Teens in trouble! Girls caving to temptation! The nuclear threat producing monsters never seen before in cinema history! The 1950s Stranger Things would be made on a shoestring budget and evoke the work of Tarantula! director Jack Arnold. Set in a small town, the lead kids would definitely be high schoolers (played by actors in their 30s) who go to drive-ins and race around town in their hot rods. One of their races causes Will to crash into a large nuclear facility, causing him to vanish. Radiation from the accident causes their friend Florence to develop psychic powers, and she is kidnapped and held in a facility. It’s up to Mike to lead the gang into the facility. They have a Demogorgon as a guard dog, and it’s played by a crewman in an unconvincing rubber suit. The film ends with a large explosion and lots of stock footage of the military. A lot happens in Stranger Things, but it’s boring nonetheless. Several generations later, in an epilogue, hipsters will find it on a 50-in-one DVD box set at a closing Best Buy.

Stranger Things in the 1960s…

Inspired by Mario Bava, the 1960s version of Stranger Things would be ultra-colorful, feature a hip electric jazz soundtrack, take place in Europe, and be dubbed into English. The psychic powers would be represented by extended hallucinatory sequences set at an underground rave. The rave would be the Upside Down, and the lead kids all visit there on the regular. Will takes acid and finds he cannot leave. The Demogorgon is a mute human man played by a Joe Dallessandro type who occasionally appears in monster makeup. A vampire woman occasionally appears in dream sequences. This is Eleven. All the scenes outside of the Upside Down would take place in libraries and dorm rooms where the kids would be wearing turtlenecks and smoking cigarettes. The theme song would evoke the work of The Cyrkle or some other 1960s psychedelic rock band.

Stranger Things in the 1970s…

In the 1970s, horror trends were all over the place. There were early slashers, a lot of Satanic panic, drug-inspired freak-outs, experimental art house fare, and enormous horror blockbusters like The Exorcist and Jaws. It follows logically, then, that the 1970s Stranger Things would pay homage to it all. The leads kids would be, essentially, all Tommy Doyle from Halloween, helpless as they watch their teenage counterparts get murdered by various things. The Upside Down is indeed a dark dimension of monsters, but also the source of demons that can possess your body. When Will is there, it’s black-and-white, industrial, and very Eraserhead-inspired. Barb, meanwhile, is being stalked by a masked killer. Eleven lives out the story of Carrie White almost identically, until her mom calls an exorcist. The whole season takes place at Christmas, and in a German dance studio run by witches. The lead witch is a transvestite alien.

Stranger Things in the 1990s…

When the 1980s drew to a close, the slasher genre was staling, a general cultural cynicism was reigning supreme, and the wonderment of Spielberg’s hits crashed into the ground with misfires like Hook. Horror started to skew away from fantastical undying supervillains, and toward serial killers and crime thrillers. Metatext also became the word of the day, and the decade saw a slew of self-aware horror films like Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, In the Mouth of Madness, and of course Scream. As such the 1990s Stranger Things would have to be about the writers of Stranger Things locked in a room, trying to come up with as many ’80s references as they can. We see the characters enacting the story of Stranger Things as it appears on Netflix, but with interjections and commentary as to what’s being referenced. In place of the last episode, however, the writers are attacked and killed by the Demogorgon.

Stranger Things in the 2000s…

It would be a found footage film, natch. Also in Japanese. And there would be at least eight horrendously grisly torture scenes. Lots of blood, viscera, and bone marrow. And, because the horror films of the 2000s were so aggressively nihilistic, none of the characters would survive. But the photography would be painterly and slick and gorgeous.

‘Crawl’ Took a Small Bite Out of the Box Office

by Brad Miska
Emahlstadt

couple things...

1. this movie looks rad and there's a lot of positive press about it from all the right places.

2. this part of a sentence from the article: "Whether this is true or not is subjective..." wat? maybe he doesn't know what "true" or "subjective" means.

I really enjoyed Paramount Pictures’ Alex AjaSam Raimi collaboration, Crawl, which pitted Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper against several massive alligators in the middle of a hurricane. It’s easily my favorite film by the French-born filmmaker since his ultraviolent debut, Haute Tension. While Aja never stopped being a great filmmaker, this was the first time since his collaboration with Wes Craven on a remake to The Hills Have Eyes that it really felt like he was able to truly be himself. Whether this is true or not is subjective, but one reason I was rooting for Crawl (review) to succeed was so that studios would once again consider him for bigger projects. Give us the Aja of old and let him do his thing!

While Crawl didn’t exactly blow the roof off theaters (pun intended), it did manage a respectable $12 million domestic opening against some really heavy competition, also leaving Stuber in the dust. It also added $4.8M internationally for a global opening of $16.8M. It’s not quite the hit I was hoping for, but it’s also likely going to swim into the profit zone thanks to its modest and respectable $13.5M-$15M reported budget (I’m looking at you, The Meg and Alita). Paramount has had some strong openings overseas and it’ll be interesting to see how the next few weeks unfold for Crawl. We’ll report back next Sunday. International numbers will likely make or break it for Paramount.

In other box office news, Ari Aster‘s Hereditary follow up, Midsommer, added another $3M for an $18M domestic total through two weekends. As I pointed out last weekend, that’s really good for a long-as-hell art film and on par with Hereditary. A24 hasn’t reported any international numbers yet.

The most under-the-radar news is that Annabelle Comes Home, the third film in the Conjuring spinoff series, blasted up globally after adding a shit ton internationally – it currently sits at $174M worldwide and is eyeing a possible $200M, which seemed unlikely after its soft opening. As I previously explained, the domestic take is proof of box office clutter and it’s still finding a way to decimate across the world. The Conjuring Universe is unstoppable right now.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled will improve load times on Switch using boost mode

by James O'Connor
Emahlstadt

what an iconic title. you've got crash bandicoot, everyone's favorite 4th tier kids' video game icon along with all his friends... like, flat-head frankenstein guy, conniving blonde bandit and... squirrel.

wtf even is this shit and why does it have load time problems that need to be solved by an overclocked nintendo processor?

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled’s long Switch load times will be addressed in the next update.

The Crash racing remake is excellent, but the Switch version has been burdened by some lengthy load times. They’re not game-breaking, but they’re annoying.

According to the notes for patch 1.05, there’s a workaround to improve these times, and the game will make use of the Switch’s ‘boost mode’ to help.

‘Boost mode’ allows for the CPU inside of the Switch to be temporarily overclocked. It’s a new feature as of May, and it can be used to, say, reduce load times. We haven’t seen many developers explicitly referencing boost mode in patch notes, so this is neat.

The patch will also introduce a few improvements for every version:

  • Loading time improvements on all platforms
  • Stability fixes when playing online
  • Adjustment to track selection frequency when choosing tracks in online matchmaking lobbies
  • Fix for various track lap exploits
  • Adjustment of global cooldown for power-ups on all players (prevent timeclock/warp orb spamming)
  • Fix to lobbies not repopulating properly after player quits
  • Fix to position shuffling and rewards at race end

The game is getting frequent major updates already, which is nice.

The patch should hit within the next week.

The post Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled will improve load times on Switch using boost mode appeared first on VG247.

yeah ok maybe

Konami's attempt to ride the retro console bandwagon, the TurboGrafx-16 mini, now has a release date and a rather hefty game list. The company has revealed that the mini will be available exclusively through Amazon on March 19th, 2020, with pre-orders starting July 15th. While the designs will vary depending on which region you hail from, you'll have access to just shy of 50 games (there are a few duplicates, despite Konami's claims) split between the US' TurboGrafx lineup and Japan's PC Engine catalog.

Zack Snyder is taking animated vikings to Netflix

by Sam Barsanti on News, shared by Sam Barsanti to The A.V. Club
Emahlstadt

first, this paragraph from the article:

"However, if we may put on our nerd glasses for a moment and risk getting stuffed into a locker, a cartoon is not the same thing as an anime. The press release doesn’t say what studio is making this, just that Netflix is behind it, which means it’s a cartoon produced by an American media company and co-created by an American director, and that doesn’t really sound like anime. We’re all happy that anime is cool now (and this certainly would be anime if an anime studio is making it), but we don’t want to run the risk of anyone conflating boorish, plebeian cartoons with the high-art that is anime."

maybe it's just me, but i always considered anime the OPPOSITE of "high-art" animation. shitty frozen frames with animated mouths, repeated backgrounds, narratives that are seemingly from the minds of horny, autistic 14-year-olds, etc. anime is garbage. i never have and never will understand the appeal.

i probably won't watch this because of the zack snyder association anyway, but if you'd told me it was just a new netflix animated series about vikings and set in the world of norse mythology, i'd be down. throw the word anime in, and i'm 100% out.

Any new project that keeps Zack Snyder away from that adaptation of The Fountainhead he’s been kicking around for a few years can only be a good thing, and today that good thing is a cartoon about vikings for Netflix. As announced in a press release, the show is billed as a “new anime series set in the world of Norse…

Perfectly Unsettling Deepfake Video Replaces Jack Nicholson With Jim Carrey in ‘The Shining’

You really get an idea of what a young Jim Carrey probably would’ve done with the role of Jack Torrance, and Ctrl Shift Face promises this is only “episode 1” of more to come.

But be forewarned, you may never be able to watch The Shining the same way again…

4-star 2021 TE Lake McRee announces commitment to Texas

by Cody Daniel
Emahlstadt

wooooooooo!

The local product grew up a Longhorns fan and will soon suit up in burnt orange.

Tom Herman’s 2021 class is no longer a one-man band.

On Tuesday morning, Austin Lake Travis tight end Lake McRee jumped into the mix and took to Twitter to announce his commitment to the Texas Longhorns.

With 15 offers in hand, McRee chose the Horns over notable options including USC, Texas A&M, TCU, North Carolina, Baylor, and Arkansas. However, there was little reason to believe that McRee would take his talents anywhere other than Texas.

A local product, McRee grew up a Texas fan, and on April 25, just days after his his first offseason trip to Texas for the spring game, McCree earned the opportunity to take his talents to his favorite program. Several weeks later, McRee camped with Texas in early June, and then returned yet again for the Heat Wave pool party, where he spent time with former Lake Travis and current Texas tight end Cade Brewer.

Though he initially told Burnt Orange Nation’s Wescott Eberts that he aimed to take each of his five official visits before announcing a decision, those plans, of course, changed, and McRee’s decision to stay home now comes sooner than initially expected.

Though two seasons remain before McRee ultimately does suit up in burnt orange, he should be able to hit the ground running courtesy of extended experience with an offensive scheme similar to what Texas employs.

“I think I’d fit in pretty well,” McRee said of how he would mesh with the tight ends in the Longhorns offense, noting that the offenses are similar, as Lake Travis offensive coordinator Will Stein previously spent three seasons as a quality control coach at Texas. “It would be an easy transition.”

Last season, McRee hauled in 17 receptions for 272 yards and two touchdowns, all of which came throughout the final six games of the season, and those numbers will likely only improve in 2019 as he develops as a key option for Texas 2020 quarterback commit Hudson Card. 2018 marked McRee’s first full season as a tight end, as he previously played quarterback as a freshman.

A 6’4, 202-pound talent, McRee is currently ranked as the nation’s No. 355 player and No. 12 tight end, per 247Sports. McRee becomes the second member of Texas’ 2021 class, joining four-star Dallas Skyline receiver Quaydarius Davis.

Imposing 4-star OLB Prince Dorbah commits to Texas

by Cody Daniel
Emahlstadt

wooooooooooo! we fuckin' need it.

Texas picked up its second pledge of the day in the form of Dallas Highland Park star edge rusher Prince Dorbah.

The Dallas-to-Austin movement remains alive and well, as imposing Dallas Highland Park outside linebacker Prince Dorbah is now the latest to announce his pledge to the Texas Longhorns.

Arkansas, LSU, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State were named as finalists, as well, and USC looked to make a bit of a late push after getting Dorbah on campus for an unofficial visit. If one were to make a case for a runner-up, LSU is the likely pick, but Dorbah’s recruitment has long trended in favor of the Longhorns.

Beyond telling Burnt Orange Nation in March that Texas was the team most involved in his recruitment, Dorbah has been a frequent presence on the Forty Acres and utilized his lone reported official visit on a return trip to Austin on June 14.

A 6’2.5, 208-pound product, Dorbah fits the mold of your modern-day hybrid edge rusher, and he’s as productive as any prospect at his position across the country. As a junior, Dorbah’s efforts were paramount in Dallas Highland Park’s success, as he amassed 92 total tackles, and mind-boggling totals elsewhere with 36 tackles for loss, 20 sacks, and 19 quarterback hurries while guiding the Scots to their third consecutive Class 5A Division I state championship.

He projects as a B-Backer in Todd Orlando’s defense.

With Dorbah in the fold, Tom Herman’s 2020 class is up to eight members; all of whom hail from the Lone Star State.

  • Ja’Quinden Jackson — 4-star ATH — Duncanville
  • Hudson Card — 4-star QB — Austin Lake Travis
  • Prince Dorbah — 4-star WDE — Dallas Highland Park
  • Jaylen Garth — 4-star OT — Port Neches-Groves
  • Jake Majors — 4-star C — Prosper
  • Kitan Crawford — 4-star ATH — Tyler John Tyler
  • Logan Parr — 4-star OG — Helotes O’Connor
  • Jaden Hullaby — 3-star ATH — Dallas Bishop Dunne

Texas QB Sam Ehlinger named Big 12 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year

by Wescott Eberts

i love the awards they give out before anyone's done anything.

Three other Longhorns were also selected to the Preseason All-Big 12 team.

On Tuesday, the Big 12 Conference revealed the Preseason All-Big 12 team, as well as the Preseason Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, as selected by the league’s media representatives. Three Longhorns made the All-Big 12 team, highlighted by the selection of junior quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who received recognition as the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.

Senior center Zach Shackelford, sophomore safety Caden Sterns, and sophomore kicker Cameron Dicker were the three other selections to the All-Big 12 team.

Ehlinger became the only player in school history to pass for at least 25 touchdowns and rush for 15 touchdowns, with his 41 total touchdowns ranking as the second-best mark in school history. Colt McCoy holds the school record for most touchdowns in a single season with 45.

Shackelford is set to enter his fourth season as the starter at center, though injuries have limited him to 27 total starts. However, the Belton native had his best season in 2018, when he was named first team All-Big 12.

A freshman All-American last season, Sterns is widely regarded as one of the top defensive players in the conference after a playmaking campaign that saw him notch four interceptions and block a field-goal attempt against USC that was returned for a touchdown. He was also a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist in his first season on the Forty Acres.

An Austin native, Dicker set the school’s freshman record for most made field goals with 18 and hit the game-winning kick against Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl. He was a second team All-Big 12 selection as a freshman.

The Sooners lead the conference with six selections to the Preseason All-Big 12 team, as well as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, linebacker Kenneth Murray, and the Preseason Newcomer of the Year, quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The conference will release the preseason media poll on Wednesday.

yes plz

Cuphead and Mugman are making their way to Netflix. The protagonists of the devilishly difficult Cuphead will star in The Cuphead Show, an upcoming original animated series on the streaming platform. The game's distinctive, beautiful art style should lend itself perfectly to an animated show.

People Can Fly wants to do Bulletstorm 2, but it needs to find a way to make it more popular

by Sherif Saed
Emahlstadt

i also want this

Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly wants the series to return.

Bulletstorm was never the massive success its creator People Can Fly predicted. It was critically acclaimed and sold fairly well, but not enough to warrant a sequel.

People Can Fly CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski admits this, but wants the series to come back in a big way. “We want this IP to have its second life,” Wojciechowski told Eurogamer.

“We’re still not sure what that means but obviously since this is our IP – we own the IP – and the IP is known and has its fans, we would like to do something about it.”

Though the developer is trying to reinvigorate interest by re-releasing the game on modern consoles, as well as Nintendo Switch later this summer, Wojciechowski argues the team will have to think about a sequel differently.

“We just need to think about how to make sure the audience will be bigger than [Bulletstorm 1’s], and that’s something we would need to work a bit more on going forward with this IP – if we decide to ever come back to it!”

People Can Fly is currently hard at work on its next big game, Outriders. This is where the team’s focus is right now, so it doesn’t have immediate plans for a Bulletstorm revival just yet. As for the Switch port, the CEO suggested it’d be out by the end of August.

Outriders, on the other hand, is due sometime in summer 2020.
