People Can Fly wants to do Bulletstorm 2, but it needs to find a way to make it more popular
Emahlstadti also want this
Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly wants the series to return.
Bulletstorm was never the massive success its creator People Can Fly predicted. It was critically acclaimed and sold fairly well, but not enough to warrant a sequel.
People Can Fly CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski admits this, but wants the series to come back in a big way. “We want this IP to have its second life,” Wojciechowski told Eurogamer.
“We’re still not sure what that means but obviously since this is our IP – we own the IP – and the IP is known and has its fans, we would like to do something about it.”
Though the developer is trying to reinvigorate interest by re-releasing the game on modern consoles, as well as Nintendo Switch later this summer, Wojciechowski argues the team will have to think about a sequel differently.
“We just need to think about how to make sure the audience will be bigger than [Bulletstorm 1’s], and that’s something we would need to work a bit more on going forward with this IP – if we decide to ever come back to it!”
People Can Fly is currently hard at work on its next big game, Outriders. This is where the team’s focus is right now, so it doesn’t have immediate plans for a Bulletstorm revival just yet. As for the Switch port, the CEO suggested it’d be out by the end of August.
Outriders, on the other hand, is due sometime in summer 2020.

'Doctor Who' might finally get a game that does it justice
Emahlstadtjustice? so, terrible voice acting, awful effects and laughably sophomoric narrative? great!
You step out the back door of a London laundromat and into a grimy, orange-smoke-filled junkyard. A mysterious voice sings out from a nearby radio, asking for your help to put right what has gone wrong. Armed with nothing but a sonic screwdriver donated by your new friend, you have to scavenge for parts to build a device that can summon your rescue vehicle.
The “Chlorophyll” Hazies
Emahlstadtlookin at you, spindletap
At Paste Magazine, Jim Vorel writes the article I’ve been meaning to get around to. He identifies two qualities common to hazy IPAs that result from using too many hops. It’s his second point I’d like to highlight:
“All too often, NE-IPAs now lusting for that “juicy” profile are simply taking their hop rates too far, and as a result they’re losing the very thing they’re seeking. These beers are being hopped at such rates that the delicate impressions of fresh fruit are lost, and all that remains is the overwhelming flavor of plant matter. And mind you, this is a style where a touch of “grass clippings” as a flavor note can be considered a good thing. But when a hazy IPA tastes like a mouthful of wet leaves, then we’ve clearly overshot what was intended, and it’s time to stop pretending that this is a desirable result.”
This is a flavor note I’ve come to recognize thanks to a decade slurping fresh-hop beers. Like hazies, fresh hopped beers often receive insane amounts of hops by brewers who are chasing a percent or two more of that elusive fresh-hop goodness. Hazy-makers do the same thing, reasoning that if two pounds per barrel of Citra is good, four pounds must be amazing. There is only so much juice a brewer can squeeze from hops, however, but there are other unwanted compounds that keep on rising with higher additions. The most obvious to my tongue is that “plant-matter” flavor Jim describes. In fresh-hopped beers, people have begun to call that note “chlorophyll,” and perhaps it could be used to describe hazy IPAs as well. (Stan Hieronymus, who knows a lot more about hops than I, is skeptical; caveat emptor.)
Here is a fake graph that describes my experience. The sweet spot is in that zone where plant flavor is low and juice is pretty high. Once the juice curve starts flattening, the chlorophyll starts spiking and pretty soon you’re upside-down on these elements.
My sense is that consumers are either slow to notice this flavor, they haven’t been trained to recognize it yet, or they don’t find it objectionable. (It’s possible some people like me are especially sensitive to it, too, but this seems the least likely explanation.) I would love to hear your own observations. Do you get a plant-matter flavor in some hazies? If so, do you find it objectionable?
Speaking of Hazies…
I’ve been keeping another small observation in my pocket to whip out at the right moment. Since it doesn’t merit a full post, how about now?
Some large percentage of hazies (half?) are one-offs. The demands of the market for both hazy IPAs and new hazy IPAs means breweries are constantly throwing new combinations together. Each time a one-off goes into production, though, there’s a really good chance it will emerge not fully realized. Experienced brewers can improve the odds, but there’s still a good chance that it’s not quite there. Even very simple beers often require fine-tuning in process or ingredient. With all the intense flavors modern hops bring, putting them all in harmony on the first try becomes a harder trick. That means a lot of hazies are on the market that are just 80% dialed in. Or 70%, or 60%.
This is certainly my experience, and I’ve spoken with brewers who complain about it themselves. I’m not entirely sure how this cycle stops, but it’s a downside of the current hazy crazy—you end up drinking a bunch of half-baked examples. So far we haven’t seen any inkling that the hazy bubble is getting ready to burst.

London Gets a ‘Lost Boys’-Themed Pizza Parlour!
Emahlstadtrad
“Maggots, Michael. You’re eating maggots. How do they taste?”
It’s not the food stuff you’d normally associate with Joel Schumacher‘s vampire comedy horror classic, but London has opened the coffin doors to The Lost Boys-themed pizza restaurant and cocktail bar. With two locations across the city, you can sink your fangs into various charcoal-based pies with crusts as dark as your soul.
Sadly there doesn’t seem to be any shirtless saxophonist as entertainment, instead, the venues are opting for various classic genre movie screenings with food and drink included. Take a look at some of the photos of the grub, booze & dining experience as well as the menu of movies coming this month.
More information is up at Lost Boys Pizza’s website and on social via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The Demon ‘Luz’ Has Been Called Forth in New U.S. Trailer
Emahlstadtyes, plz
After world premiering at the 68th Berlin Film Festival, Tilman Singer’s indie hit Luz opens in New York and Los Angles on July 19th, via Screen Media.
The film stars Luana Velis as a young cab driver who drags herself into a run-down police station while being pursued by a woman (played by Julia Riedler) who is possessed by a demonic entity.
Daniel Kurland reviewed the film, writing:
“Luz is a wildly inventive take on the demonic possession genre.”
“Every so often there’s a film that really unnerves, and just flat-out scares us,” Screen Media’s Seth Needle said when acquired ahead of Fantastic Fest. “Luz does exactly that. Tilman has made a beautiful but truly terrifying movie that people are going to be talking about for sure.”
Singer also wrote the script. Singer and Dario Mendez Acosta produced.
[Butcher Block] Ken Russell’s Controversial ‘The Devils’ Is a Holy Trinity of Violence, Sex, and Religion
Emahlstadtit ain't that good, tho.
Butcher Block is a weekly series celebrating horror’s most extreme films and the minds behind them. Dedicated to graphic gore and splatter, each week will explore the dark, the disturbed, and the depraved in horror, and the blood and guts involved. For the films that use special effects of gore as an art form, and the fans that revel in the carnage, this series is for you.
Anytime a horror movie is touted to be “based on true events,” it’s usually met with some level of skepticism. Sometimes it’s an adaptation in the loosest sense, borrowing from actual people and events to launch an exaggerated fictional account, and sometimes the truth just really is stranger than fiction. Surely a film as notorious and sensationalized as the controversial Ken Russell 1971 film The Devils falls into the former category, right? Not so much. Sure, there’s a dreamlike (more like nightmarish) quality to The Devils, and Russell went for the religious jugular, but the events in the film are based on history and the film has its fingers on the pulse of truth. All of which lent to the creation of one of cinema’s most controversial banned films of all time.
Based on Aldous Huxley’s 1952 non-fiction novel The Devils of Loudun and its 1961 stageplay adaptation, The Devils is set in 17th century Loudun, France. According to history, Loudun was a town divided over those in favor of tearing down its surrounding walls and those who wanted the walls to remain. That division was exacerbated by a plague outbreak in 1632. Tensions and anxiety at an all-time high, hysteria spreads through the town when an entire convent of Ursuline nuns, led by prioress Jeanne des Anges, said they had been visited and possessed by demons. Their increasingly bizarre behavior of shouting, swearing, and barking in public drew enough attention that Cardinal Richelieu opted to intervene. The Cardinal, who wanted the walls down, found himself the perfect fall guy in Urbain Grandeur, a good-looking priest with an unsavory reputation and a public opposer of Richelieu. It kicked off the notorious witchcraft trial in 1634 that resulted in Grandeur’s being burned at the stake after being found guilty of being in league with the devil and seducing the entire convent of nuns.

So, plot-wise, Russell’s film adaption is pretty faithful. Oliver Reed stars as Grandeur, complete with the sex appeal that has all of Loudun’s ladies swooning, including the hunchbacked Sister Jeanne (Vanessa Redgrave). Jeanne is extremely lustful of Grandeur, which pushes over into wrathful jealousy when she learns of his relationship to the young and stunning Madeleine (Gemma Jones). Cue the demonic seduction accusations, and hysteria and chaos ensue.
In terms of violence, Russell doesn’t hold back on the torture inflicted upon Grandeur. Needles skewer his tongue, his bones are broken, and his excruciating death at the stake is unflinching. But then Russell doubles down with the brazen sexuality. Scenes that drew the most ire involved Sister Jeanne masturbating with Grandeur’s charred tibia, and the infamous “Rape of Christ” sequence that had the nuns devolve into a naked orgy that culminated in acting out their sexual desires with the statue of Christ. Shocking no one; The Devils ruffled a lot of feathers. The movie was deemed blasphemous and banned in many countries. It received an X-rating only after Russell cut out the most controversial scenes. The studio also trimmed scenes prior to submission to the British Board of Film Censors. Which explains why it’s a film considered tough to track down; there are various cuts in existence and some of the material removed now thought to be permanently lost.
The Devils was always intended to be incendiary. Russell had referred to this as his sole political film. The impact of the film tends to be the same no matter the version, because the corruptive collision of politics and religion and the wielding of hysteria as a weapon at the center proves horrific with or without the most infamous sequences. There’s a timelessness to that that shook critics and the Catholic Church upon release, and it’s still effective. It’s bolstered by a fully committed, immeasurably talented cast, Russell’s distinct style, and a stunning production design. Horror at its most depraved and sadistic tends to make casual viewers uncomfortable, and The Devils takes it to a whole new squeamish level with its nightmarish visuals steeped in historical accuracy.

SLAYER Prepares To Announce Last-Ever U.S. Leg Of Final Tour
Emahlstadtglad i already got to see them on their last tour ever from last year.
The 7 Spookiest Video Game Ghost Ships
Emahlstadtand they didn't even include the ishimura. what a shame.
If nautical nonsense is something ye wish, the last six months of ghostly games have likely sent your timbers a-shiverin’.
Sorry if that lede was a little confusing. That’s pirate speak for: wow, a lot of games with haunted ships have come out lately! Earlier this year, after seeing it near the top of a few 2018 GOTY lists, I picked up The Return of the Obra Dinn, a lo-fi black-and-white detective game that casts the player as an insurance adjuster uncovering the fates of the 60 people missing from a ship that drifts, empty, into harbor.
Then, last month, I reviewed Close to the Sun and Layers of Fear 2, a pair of first-person narrative games that take place on ocean liners beset by paranormal weirdness. If we count spaceships as ships (and I’m open to the idea, just not for this list), Void Bastards — the System Shock 2-inspired roguelite with a comic book aesthetic from Blue Manchu— also tasks players with venturing onto drifting vessels where deranged aliens haunt the halls.
And, later in 2019, the creators of Until Dawn — that excellent ‘90s-horror-movie-meets-Telltale-game from Supermassive Games — are launching their Dark Pictures Anthology series with the choice-driven, ghost ship-set Man of Medan.
In short, we’re in the midst of a Flying Dutchmenaissance.
So, I set sail through gaming history with plenty of rum and restless spirits to spare in search of the best virtual ghost ships to ever haunt the seven seas. And, in my travels, I met weary wanderers, white-haired monster hunters, dead stowaways and a dude named LeChuck.
Note: Throughout this list, my definition of “ghost ship” includes any seafaring vessel inhabited by a paranormal spirit, being or creature.
7. Wrecked Ship, Resident Evil VII

While not necessarily bad, this section — which moves the player from the terrifying Baker manor to an abandoned boat, and abandons inventory management in favor of guns-a-blazin’ zombie slaying — is a weak point in an otherwise stellar game.
6. LeChuck’s Ghost Ship, The Secret of Monkey Island

Mortal Guybrush Threepwood becomes invisible when he boards the dead pirate captain LeChuck’s ghost ship. Ghostly in inky blue, the undead crew dance to a lively violin jig on the deck, while LeChuck broods in his cabin. It’s a well-realized, if underutilized, setting. Bonus points for ghost pigs.
5. The Ocean Liner, Layers of Fear 2

The first Layers of Fear tasked the player with exploring a spooky house whose walls shifted around you. Bloober Team’s first-person horror sequel retains the transient level design but moves the action to an ocean liner haunted by a shimmering monster and a horde of mannequins. While the constantly changing environment makes for effective horror, it results in a less impactful setting. The cruise ship is compelling to explore — until, that is, you realize that you’ll never actually be free to explore it.
4. HMS Prince, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

One of five legendary ships the player has the option to confront in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, the HMS Prince flies black sails and conceals itself within a ghostly fog. I say, “conceals itself” because the ship has no visible crew, a fact which spooks the crew of the Jackdaw. The legendary ship battles are one of the high points of this fan favorite Assassin’s Creed game; roving, raucous boss fights that push the player to use the full extent of the naval weaponry at their disposal. This one is just as exciting as the other four — with its hide-and-seek amid the fog and smoke and raining mortar — and helps to encapsulate the eerie mystery of the sea during the Golden Age of Pirates.
3. The Maw, Little Nightmares

While Little Nightmare’s little-kid-in-a-scary-world aesthetic earned it unfavorable comparisons to Playdead’s Inside, Tarsier’s puzzle-platformer differentiated itself with its dark, creaking setting: The Maw, a haunted, hulking ocean liner. As Six, a tiny child in a yellow rain poncho, you sneak past cannibalistic chefs, gluttonous guests and a janitor with arms like Mr. Fantastic, but if Mr. Fantastic was a mummified Freddy Krueger. A trilogy of DLC expansions fleshed out the setting further, giving glimpses of a cavernous boiler room and more.
2. The Obra Dinn, The Return of the Obra Dinn

After completing The Return of the Obra Dinn you will know its titular abandoned ship like the back of your one-bit hands. Each curve and crevice hides a secret that the protagonist — an insurance adjuster investigating the ship to discover what happened to its 60 dead or missing crew members on its mysterious voyage — must suss out using a magical compass and an ordinary notebook. The Return of the Obra Dinn eschews obscure video game logic and asks the player to use their powers of observation to solve its puzzles. And, ahoy me hearties, it is satisfying to hear the telltale ding when you lock a trio of identities into place.
1. The Last Wish, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher games existing in the same timeline as Andrzej Sapkowski’s books have rarely paid off as well as it does in this climactic side quest from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
*SPOILERS FOR THE WITCHER 3 (AND “THE LAST WISH” SHORT STORY) BELOW*
The titular story in the first book of the Witcher saga, The Last Wish, tells the story of when Geralt met Yennefer while combating a djinn. After a combative start to their relationship, Geralt made a wish that forever bound the two together. In the story’s namesake quest, Yennefer asks Geralt to help her track down a different genie that was released after the man who tamed it disappeared. The witcher obliges, and the two soon find the man’s boat at the bottom of a nearby harbor — but half the ship is missing. Yennefer says that the crater surrounding the boat suggests that the other half was teleported elsewhere. In the wreckage, you find a seal, cracked in two. Yennefer uses the seal to summon a portal to the other half. Geralt and Yen soon find themselves on a snowy mountaintop, where the other half of the ship has come to rest. Geralt asks Yennefer why she’s intent on finding this djinn, and she responds that she wants to reverse Geralt’s wish; she needs to know if “magic” exists between them with the spell removed. The pair enter the ship, locate the other half of the seal and dispatch the djinn. Yen makes her wish.
The quest culminates with the pair sitting on the side of the ship, perched high in the mountains. With the spell removed, Yen asks Geralt if he still has feelings for her. As the player, you get to choose to break things off with Yennefer here or let her know that you love her.
It’s an incredibly important moment that, if you fancy Yennefer, serves as the culmination of one of the game’s most potent narrative threads. While haunted ships are frequently used to isolate the player at sea, this spooky boat brought two characters together. It marks the spot where Geralt and Yennefer finally commit to each other after a years-long on again, off again relationship (or, you know, don’t, if you prefer Triss).
I dub it the Best Video Game Ghost Ship.
Did I miss anything? Mad that the winner is romantic instead of spooky? Peeved that I included skeletons, creepy mannequins and a janitor on this list? Let me know in the comments below.

‘Verotika’: Reactions from Last Night’s Screening of Glenn Danzig’s “Truly Insane” Cult Anthology!
You can’t create a cult classic – it just happens.
Glenn Danzig is a goddamn legend, and when he announced his foray into the world of film, we couldn’t help but be excited. Shit, Rob Zombie did it, why can’t mother-fucking-Danzig? Well, he did it all right.
Danzig’s Verotika had its World Premiere at this month’s Cinepocalypse, the annual Chicago-based film festival that Bloody Disgusting both helped program and also sponsored. Based on his own comic books, this anthology blew the roof off the Music Box Theater where critics and fans declared it an instant cult classic, one that will stand next to The Room and Birdemic as one of the best-worst movies ever made. Bloody’s Patrick Bromley called it the “horror equivalent of The Room” in his review.
Following the reactions, there was fear the Danzig would bury Verotika – he was genuinely confused by the laughter at the World Premiere. The question became, would he be able to accept what Verotika actually was? The answer appears to be “yes” as the musician-turned-filmmaker made an appearance at last night’s Los Angeles Premiere and doubled down on many of his comments. He was passionate. He was deliberate. He is proud of what he created. As I explained previously, Verotika is authentic – and that’s the first step to a film gaining “cult classic” status. This is no fucking Sharknado (eyeroll).
Good or bad, Verotika is bringing smiles to the faces of film fanatics everywhere, and that has to be worth something, right? Here’s a taste of what the Los Angeles-based critics and fans had to say about Danzig’s debut as a filmmaker…

After Being Cancelled By Syfy, “Deadly Class” Fails to Find a New Network
Emahlstadtexpensive and not very good
We learned earlier this month that Syfy had cancelled “Deadly Class” after just one season, which wrapped up back in March. At the time, we heard that Sony Pictures TV was going to shop the series around to see if it could find new life at a new network, but sadly, comic book/series creator Rick Remender has just hammered the final nail into that coffin.
Remender tweeted this week, “Deadly Class will not be moving to a new network. Which is sort of perfect when you think about it. If you want to see what happens after the 1st season you’ll have to buy the comics, which are pretty keen. Thank you to our fans for the huge support. You helped soothe the sting.”
So if you dug the series, be sure to continue supporting “Deadly Class” at your comic shop!
“Set in a dark, comic book world against the backdrop of late 80s counter culture, DEADLY CLASS follows a homeless teen recruited into a storied elite private school where the world’s top crime families send their next generations. Maintaining his moral code while surviving a ruthless curriculum, vicious social cliques and his own adolescent uncertainties soon proves to be vital. Based on the best-selling 2014 Image Comics graphic novel, DEADLY CLASS is a coming of age journey full of ancient mystery and teen angst.”
Cast includes Benedict Wong (“Doctor Strange,” “Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams”), Benjamin Wadsworth (“Teen Wolf”), Lana Condor (“X-Men: Apocalypse,” “Alita: Battle Angel”), Maria Gabriela de Faria (“Yo Soy Franky,” “Sitiados”), Luke Tennie (“Shock and Awe”), Liam James(“The Way Way Back,” “The Killing”) and Michel Duval (“Queen of the South”).
From Sony Pictures Television and Universal Cable Productions, “Deadly Class” was adapted for television by Rick Remender and Miles Orion Feldsott, who served as executive producers alongside Joe Russo (“Avengers: Infinity War,” “Captain America: Civil War”), Anthony Russo (“Avengers: Infinity War,” “Captain America: Civil War”) and Mike Larocca (“Spy”). Adam Targum (“Banshee”) from Chipmunk Hill also served as executive producer on the pilot, along with Lee Toland Krieger (“The Age of Adaline”), who also directed.

Kino Lorber is Releasing ‘Lost Highway’ on Blu-ray But David Lynch Wants a Proper Restoration
This week, Kino Lorber is releasing David Lynch‘s Lost Highway on Blu-ray, but Lynch himself took to Twitter over the weekend to let his fans know that the disc doesn’t feature a restoration. Lynch tweeted, “Dear Twitter Friends, A Blu-ray of Lost Highway will be released very soon. It was made from old elements and NOT from a restoration of the original negative.”
“I hope that a version from the restoration of the original negative will happen as soon as possible,” he added, suggesting that the original negative has perhaps been restored.
Kino Lorber’s side of the story, however, is that they *tried* to get Lynch’s approval for a restoration. In a statement issued in the wake of Lynch’s tweet, the company had this to say:
“We reached out to Mr. Lynch via email to oversee and color grade a new 4K transfer (from the original camera negative) and get his approval on the dozen or so extras we had planned to include. Once we knew he was not interested in working with us, we had no choice, but to go ahead with the current Universal master and the few extras we had already produced and acquired. To our surprise, the master in question was a very good one, so we were happy to release it with some extras. We found out later that the extras and packaging also had to be approved by him (not the norm) and we sent email after email without one response. We delayed the release by a month, hoping we could at least get him to approve the trailer, the essay and our packaging, at this point we knew the interview and commentary were not possible, but after a few more weeks, we dropped the essay, the trailer and changed our front art to the previously approved DVD art. The BD only includes the film on a dual-layered BD50 disc, maxing out the feature at 30mbps with 5.1 surround and 2.0 lossless audio. We were planning to take the high road and not play the blame game, but after his tweet this weekend, we felt like we had to respond. We’re still huge David Lynch fans and are proud to release one of his masterpieces on Blu-ray.”
It sounds like Lynch wants his fans to hold out and wait for the restoration, though it’s worth noting that we have no idea if such a release is actually in the works at this time.
(So, ya know, maybe grab Kino’s Blu-ray for now!)
Microsoft Reportedly Laid Off Several Mixer Employees
Emahlstadtjesus. it's ok microsoft. it's ok that twitch and youtube got there first and will always do it better. just because a thing exists, and you have the money to try and copy it doesn't mean you should. why not double down on making the native apps for the streaming services people actually know, care about, and watch a great experience on your platform? why does everything have to be proprietary in 2019?

It appears Microsoft decided to cut back on resources this week as several employees are letting people know they’ve been let go, specifically from Mixer. The news is coming from GameDaily.biz, who caught wind on social media and from internal sources that several original content producers had been laid off this week. By all indications, it appears that the company will be moving away from creating its own original content in-house on Mixer and will probably focus more on non-employees using the system to create their own content. Up until now, the company had been dabbling in original shows featuring streamers who had originally established themselves on Twitch or YouTube to make new content for Mixer in general. The shows had seen some success, but not nearly the numbers that say, Twitch’s original programming was making. Mainly because people are still getting used to using Mixer as a streaming source.
It will be interesting to see how this affects all of their programming, as there were shows such as Tips and Tricks and This Week In Esports, which were making content as recent as this week with no indication they were going away. But it definately feels like Microsoft had set some high hopes for their service and are now cutting their losses rather than trying to reorganize their staff and concentrate on different programming to find something that works.

Checking Out New Arcade1Up Cabinets During E3 2019
Emahlstadtsuper duper want one of these.
While we were on the floor at E3 this year, we had to pay a visit to the Arcade1Up booth to see what their latest cabinets were coming out of the show. There were a few new designs that we absolutely had to have in our home, starting with the four-player cabinet for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This is the classic arcade machine down to the weird design of a human April O’Neil with a camcorder standing around animated turtles. The machine also comes with Turtles In Time, which we saw someone else playing but were still floored that this one existed. This is one of those titles you wish you owned a four-player cabinet for, and how here it is.
The next big one was Marvel Super Heroes, which was a two-player cabinet and contained all the original Capcom artwork on the sides. Except for the front, which you can see here, comes with two more games for you to choose from. Those being the arcade versions of The Punisher and X-Men: Children Of The Atom. This one was pretty cool to see as I haven’t seen much of this particular arcade cabinet since the mid-90s. Which is due, in part, to Capcom quickly sending out X-Men vs. Street Fighter as a replacement to it the year after it came out. This one looks just as amazing, and hey, they apparently got better audio for the game on this one!
The big item they showed off during the convention was the fact that they got the rights to do the old Star Wars arcade cabinet with the old TIE Fighter controller on the front. This is about as close to the original 1983 model as they could get, and it includes all three arcade games that were made in the late ’70s and early ’80s based on the films. We weren’t able to play any of it because what you’re looking at here is just the floor model. But I’m looking forward to seeing these guys again to try it out next time.
Arcade1Up also had some cool designs to show off, starting with the table versions of their previous machines like Centipede and Space Invaders, giving you a smaller version as a one-player experience. They also showed off this new table designs for Pac-Man and Street Fighter II, which are a bit of a combination to old restaurant-style tables and Japanese arcade bar tables. There’s a lot of cool things coming from the company and we basically need to own all of it. Enjoy checking out our photos of their booth as we anxiously wait to see if we might be able to review one of these in the future.

5 recruits who could be next to join the Longhorns 2020 class
With Kitan Crawford on board, which recruits could be next to bolster Tom Herman’s 2020 class?
On Friday evening, the Texas Longhorns kicked off a loaded recruiting weekend with a major commitment from speedy John Tyler cornerback Kitan Crawford. The four-star talent marked the first defensive pledge this cycle for Tom Herman’s program, but more notably, he could spark a wave of commitments in the coming weeks as numerous key Texas targets are eyeing summer decisions.
With that in mind, who could become some of the next additions to the Longhorns’ #cloUT2020 class?
Bijan Robinson — 5-star RB — Tucson (Az.) Salpointe Catholic
Arguably the priority at the position after top-ranked Houston North Shore running back Zachary Evans left the Longhorns from his top five list in late May, Bijan Robinson earned a Texas offer in early January and slowly but surely, the Horns have made some tremendous headway for the nation’s No. 4 running back. Robinson got a first-hand look at the Forty Acres in mid-April for the spring game, and he’s currently on campus for his official visit.
Robinson’s latest trip to Austin serves as his third official visit within the past week, as he made a mid-week trip to USC, and last weekend, he was on campus in Columbus visiting Ohio State. However, just before his trip to Columbus, Robinson reportedly named the Longhorns his leader in an Instagram Live feed, so with a strong showing this weekend, Texas could separate itself as the clear favorite for the elite ball carrier.
With his official visit tour already well underway, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a decision come within the coming weeks.
Lathan Ransom — 4-star S — Tucson (Az.) Salpointe Catholic
Bijan Robinson isn’t the only Salpointe Catholic product who may soon call Austin home. On June 1, the nation’s No. 4 safety prospect made his first trip to Austin, and the visit received rave reviews, indicating that Texas had positioned itself as a legitimate presence in his recruitment. Just three days later, on June 4, Ransom named the Longhorns as one of his final five options, alongside Ohio State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and LSU.
10 days later, Ransom returned to the Forty Acres for his official visit, and shortly after, the four-star talent took to Twitter with a potentially telling message:
It’s starting to become clear..⏰
— Lathan Ransom (@L8thanRansom) June 18, 2019
Ransom is spending the weekend in Columbus for an official visit Ohio State, which will conclude his official visit tour, so a decision could be coming in the coming days or weeks. LSU and Notre Dame are likely the Longhorns stiffest competition here, but Texas appears to be in a great position down the stretch.
Vernon Broughton — 4-star DT — Houston Cy Ridge
Vernon Broughton’s official visit tour is coming to an end this weekend in College Station, and with that portion of his recruitment all but in the rearview, there’s reason for optimism that he’ll ultimately end up in Austin. He was there just days ago on June 19, making a mid-week unofficial trip in between official visits to Ohio State (June 14) and Texas A&M (June 21), which marked his fourth trip to the Forty Acres this offseason, as he was also on hand in January, for the spring game, and for a May 3 official visit.
Weeks after his initial official visit to Texas, Broughton released a top six that also included Texas A&M, Ohio State, Arkansas, LSU, and Alabama, but of that bunch, the Aggies and Tigers are likely the only legitimate threat to the Horns. That said, Broughton has previously raved to BON of the Longhorns recruiting efforts and how the program feels like family, and should his stick to his summer decision timeframe, it would be a bit of a surprise if he ended up elsewhere.
Texas owns nine of Broughton’s 10 Crystal Ball picks.
Chad Lindberg — 4-star OG — League City Clear Creek
At one point, Lindberg appeared to be a lock to Texas, and for good reason. Beyond him making numerous trips to Austin, including a May 3 official visit, he’s built relationships with each of the Longhorns current offensive line pledges and quarterback commit Hudson Card. Furthermore, his older brother is currently enrolled at Texas. Nevertheless, Lindberg has entertained other options, making official visits to to Georgia (May 31), LSU (June 14), USC (June 18) throughout the past month, and he’s currently capping his official visit tour with a trip to Texas A&M.
That said, with his recruitment entering what will likely be its final few weeks, the Longhorns still appear to be in the driver’s seat. Texas currently owns each of his five Crystal Ball picks.
Chris Thompson Jr. — 4-star S — Duncanville
Of the several safety targets on Texas’ big board, Chris Thompson Jr. has long been considered the most likely to land in Austin, and that’s now likely even more true with his teammate, four-star quarterback Ja’Quinden Jackson, committed to the program. As was the case with Jackson, Longhorns assistant receivers coach Ra’Shaad Samples’ presence and ties to Duncanville can only help the Horns here.
After numerous trips throughout the 2018 calendar year, Thompson made the short trek to Austin to take in a spring practice earlier this offseason, and he’s since returned for an official visit on May 3. More recently, he’s officially visited Ohio State last weekend, and he’s currently on an official visit to USC, but with a possible summer decision looming, there’s little reason to believe Thompson will be taking his talents elsewhere.
Much like Lindberg, Thompson’s Crystal Ball is entirely in favor of Texas, with eight picks placed to date.
Beyond the five noted targets, Dallas Highland Park outside linebacker Prince Dorbah, Dallas Bishop Dunne outside linebacker Brennon Scott, and Arlington cornerback Jahari Rogers are all names to keep an eye on as commit candidates.
DC is killing off the Vertigo line, although its existing comics will live on
Emahlstadtsad day for comics altogether. i personally never thought the vertigo imprint was a very worthy competitor to things like image comics, but fewer "creator owned" (which i know wasn't always the case with vertigo) comics in the market is necessarily a bad thing, as far as i'm concerned and vertigo was once the home of its share of all-time great books, even if those weren't the product of recent titles.

After nearly three decades of offering up comics that trended toward less in the way of punching, more in the way of moody philosophizing, DC announced today that it’s killing off its fabled Vertigo imprint for good. The line—originally conceived back in 1993 as a way for the company to publish comics outside the…
Longhorns set to host several elite targets for major recruiting weekend
Emahlstadti hope it goes well, 'cause we're getting our asses beat on the 'cruitin' trail.
Multiple five-star prospects will be on campus, as will a handful of official visitors.
Once again, the Texas Longhorns are gearing up for a major recruiting visit weekend, with some of the nation’s elite prospects set to visit Austin. The 2020, 2021, and 2022 classes will each be represented on campus.

Midsommar is a deranged (and funny!) folk-horror nightmare from the director of Hereditary
EmahlstadtB+! didn't read the review 'cause i'm tryiing to go in blind on this one, but glad it's getting mostly positive reviews.

Midsommar, a disturbing, ambitious, and unsettlingly colorful new horror movie from the writer-director of Hereditary, unfolds within a remote village in northern Sweden, a land where the sun never completely sets. “Bill & Ted Face the Music” Casts Anthony Carrigan as Villain
Emahlstadty no eyebrows?!?!?
San Dimas is going on a wild ride as Bill & Ted Face the Music has found a villain in Anthony Carrigan. Known for playing charismatic and devilishly ruthless villains in Barry and Gotham, Carrigan is slated to play a “relentless” antagonist.
The Hollywood Reporter speculates given his smooth and bald complexion, Carrigan could be playing Death Jr. Death was originally introduced in the second film of the franchise, Bogus Journey, played by William Sadler.
With Sadler set to reprise his role, it could make for an interesting dynamic since the Face the Music will have a strong focus on the character’s children. Also reprising their roles as Bill S. Preston and Theodore “Ted” Logan are Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves, respectively. Joining the two will be their daughters, Thea Preston and Billie Logan, played by Samantha Weaving and Bridgette Lundy-Paine.

The original film, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989) had the duo travel though time and collect historical figures in order to pass their history class project. Two years later, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey saw the duo killed. Not content spending eternity in the afterlife, Bill and Ted rode alongside Death and attempted to do everything they could to restore their bodies in a race against time, and to confront the robot dopplegangers that killed them. They won the day, restoring their reputation in the process. Bill & Ted Face the Music has the pair at middle age with children looking for their career-defining song.
A visitor from the future tells best friends Bill and Ted that one of their songs can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe.
Directed by Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) and written by creators Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon), the film is currently under production for Orion Pictures.
Bill & Ted Face the Music is slated for release August 21st, 2020.

“Star Trek: Picard”: Jonathan Frakes Signals His Directing Duties Have Wrapped
Emahlstadtdidn't realize riker was directing
Fans of CBS All Access‘ upcoming Star Trek franchise spinoff series Star Trek: Picard have been buzzing about the series when it was first announced, and the teaser released did nothing but dump a whole lot of fuel on an already blazing dumpster fire of speculation. Then came word from Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s own Jonathan Frakes (Cmdr. Will Riker) himself that he would be reuniting with Patrick Stewart when he directs the “second block” of episodes from the upcoming series (with an announcement tweet, which you can find below) – and now?

Frakes is letting fans know that his time at the helm are over, with filming on his episodes having officially wrapped as of this Tuesday:

Jonathan Frakes’ “Captain Picard Day” Message…
It should come as no surprise that his “Number One” would have a special message for him on his own day:
Celebrating #CaptainPicardDay with a special message from @jonathansfrakes #StarTrek #PicardDayParty pic.twitter.com/5SaN5CSh3T
— Star Trek (@StarTrek) June 16, 2019
“Hello Trekkers, Trekkies, Picardians! I’d like to wish you all a happy Captain Picard Day.”

STAR TREK: PICARD features Sir Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard, which he played for seven seasons on “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” The new series will follow this iconic character into the next chapter of his life.
Star Trek: Picard also stars Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera, and Harry Treadaway; with Hanelle Culpepper directing the first two episodes of the season. The series is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers and Aaron Baiers (Secret Hideout) serves as co-executive producer and Kirsten Beyer as supervising producer.
![]()
In an interview with Trek Movie from April 2019, Frakes shared what he could about the upcoming series – and wants fans to know that’s its something worth getting excited about:
“Eighteen years later. I think the fans are going to be thrilled and excited and surprised. I have had the privilege of reading the first couple of episodes and I have spent some time with Patrick who is so engaged [laughs] Sorry. It’s wonderful. It’s smart. I’m excited about it. He is obviously more excited. His announcing of it at Las Vegas — which I believe was his idea —was very smart. You know he is 78, and he is going to be carrying the show on his shoulders, his considerable shoulders.
I’m excited for him and personally, I feel so blessed to back. It’s so ironic that I spent so many years trying to expand where I was working and I was lucky enough to get onto other types of shows. The directing has been a mitzvah for me—to learn another craft. And now I am deeply ensconced in the world I was in 31 years ago—and I’ve got to say—incredibly grateful for it, between The Orville, and Discovery and Picard. And hopefully the Empress Georgiou show.”
– Jonathan Frakes

Star Trek: Picard will air exclusively on CBS All Access in the United States and will be distributed simultaneously on the global scene by CBS Studios International on Amazon Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories; and in Canada on Bell Media’s cable networks, Space and Z, and OTT service Crave.

Hollywood is not having a banner year.
