Puff? Pass. New York to Legalize Smoke-Free Medical Marijuana Only
New York legislators agreed to legalize some forms of medical marijuana on Thursday — but still won't allow patients to take a puff
Doctors — and only doctors — will be allowed to prescribe New Yorkers with vaporized and oil-based marijuana as well as marijuana pills to calm pain that can be associated with diseases such as AIDS, cancer, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy
Gov. Andrew Cuomo is expected to sign the bill on Friday. Though the legislation is a win for medical marijuana activists, it didn't include some provisions they believe are important

There’s no shortage of DIY projects, inspiration and ideas on the web, but I’ve found that the emails I get about DIY these days are still about what tools to buy and why. So this morning I thought I’d share what I consider to be the 5 major building blocks of any great DIY kit. Aside from the super basics (scissors, glue, paint) these are the tools I think are versatile and easy enough to use that everyone should invest in them. They’ll come in handy not only for individual projects, but for basic, small-scale repairs around the house, too. So if you needed a gift idea for summer birthdays or just a little nudge to get your summer upcycling, crafting and home decorating off on the right foot, this roundup is for you. xo, grace
*What are your go-to tools and tool brands? I tend to get my brand-specifics from trusted artist and shop owner friends, but I also always look at user reviews under products online to see if there are models to avoid. If you’ve got a tip or trusted tool to share, please add your thoughts below!

Coach Harbaugh's Wife is Pleating With You to Stop 'Dad Pants'
Just in time for Father's Day, the wife of NFL coach Jim Harbaugh, a notorious dad pants wearer, are appealing to your better senses to stop a travesty sweeping the nation: dad pants
You know those pants that your dad always wore that were two sizes too big and had giant pleats in them? Those are dad pants. Sarah Harbaugh has campaigned against her husband's pants for some time now, and it seems like she's finally won the long battle against the dreaded dad khakis
The campaign, of course, turns out to be an ad for Dockers — but a pretty neat one at that, since it comes with a chance to meet Harbaugh. Read more...

JFK Library to Use Kennedy's Words to Tweet About Current Events

This just rolled in: Sony and Sega are partnering to develop a Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
The feature-length film will be a CG-animated/live-action hybrid, and would pit the irreverent spiny mammal with blazing speed against familiar franchise baddies including Dr. Eggman, the studio announced Tuesday.
Upright Citizens Brigade LA alumni Evan Susser and Van Robichaux have been hired to pen the script — this would be their first feature film in production — under producer Neal H. Moritz (the Fast and Furious franchise). Japanese CG animation production company Marza, a subsidiary of Sega, is also producing. Read more...

Memorial for Erick Ortiz on the fence of the Atlantic Park pool | C.J. Salgado
EAST LOS ANGELES — I learned to swim at the public pool in Atlantic Park, where I spent many summers growing up. So, last week’s drowning of 16-year-old Erick Ortiz at the pool reminded me of my own scary experience as a kid when I nearly drowned there myself. I had jumped into the deep end of the pool trying to impress a friend. Clearly not thinking straight, I misjudged my abilities and soon found myself drowning. Luckily, the lifeguard on duty spotted me quickly and dove into action, pulling me out before I took in too much water.
How the victim in the recent drowning could have been missed until it was too late is still under investigation. But over the last few days, Erick is being remembered through a growing make-shift shrine that’s been erected alongside the pool. Over 100 candles, posters, and a basketball pay tribute to the Garfield High School student.
If there is anything good to come of this, it is to at least remind us that water safety is critically important, especially in the summer with an increase of water activities. Even with life guards on duty in broad daylight, it only takes minutes for a life to be put at risk of serious injury or death.
Proper supervision, especially of kids, is so important. So, too, is knowing what a swimmer’s abilities are. Click here to read about some water safety tips by The Red Cross.
