Modern Communication

by Miss Cellania

Is it any wonder we hide from mass communication these days? The only people we hear from are those who want our money. Sifting through the mess to find anything worthwhile is a chore. I do get an occasional email or call from my kids, but it turns out that they want money, too. This is the latest comic from Sarah Andersen at Sarah’s Scribbles.

Finally! A Back Hair Razor

by John Farrier

(Photo: baKBlade)

Unless you’re some sort of back hair artist, you’ll need to keep to your body lawn properly mowed. It’s a difficult and time consuming weekly chore for most men, made all the more difficult by small razors, a large surface area, and non-dislocated shoulders.

The baKBlade Bigmouth has a 4-inch blade fitted within a toothed comb that grabs and chops the hair. There’s a long handle so that there’s no spot on your body that you won’t be able to shave. The company says that you don’t need to use shaving cream. I guess that’s because it’s actually trimming the hair very close to your skin rather than bringing the blade into direct contact with it.

When Mutant Superpowers Manifest Themselves

by John Farrier

Pursuant the Mutant Registration Act, Marisa Arriaga of Cedar Hill, a suburb of Dallas, Texas, must submit to government supervision. She might have avoided that fate, had she not recorded her amazing abilities last June. She tells Fox 4 News that it’s just a bat trick, but I think that it’s clearly superpowers at work:

"I just started messing around,” said Arriaga. “I'm like, ‘I'm gonna make a bat trick video.’ So I got my sister out here and she was recording me.” […]

LaTisha Griffin, Arriaga’s softball coach, says Arriaga has crazy good skills.

"The finish is something she does all the time in the game, sending the ball a yard or going outfield with the ball with that complete swing through the zone, that's something she does all the time,” said Griffin.

Great Job, Internet!: Life After Death Star mashes together The Notorious B.I.G., Star Wars to stunning effect

by Chris Dart

If there are two things nerdcore rapper Richie Branson loves in equal measure, it’s Star Wars and rap. His debut EP, Cold Republic Episode I: The Empire Likes Rap, was inspired by his love for the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Now Branson has combined his passions again, this time in the form of a remix project with producer Solar Slim. (The pair are working collaborating under the name Otaku Gang, which is also the name of Branson’s label.) Life After Death Star combines the rhymes of Notorious B.I.G. with John Williams’ Oscar winning theme from Star Wars, and manages to improve on both. What’s amazing about Death Star is how natural it feels. A Star Wars remix album could be really gimmicky, but this actually manages to make Biggie’s thundering baritone more imposing and adds a new layer of ominousness to ...

Netflix Renews House Of Cards For Fifth Season As Creator Beau Willimon Walks Away

by Erik Amaya

House-of-Cards-Frank-UnderwoodDeadline reports that Netflix has renewed House of Cards for a fifth season, ahead of the season four debut on March 4th.

But when the show returns for its 2017 year, creator Beau Willimon will not be coming back. The streaming outlet and production company MRC said in a statement that they “owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Beau Willimon for his strong narrative vision for House of Cards over the show’s first four seasons.” While the reasons for Willimon’s departure were unspecified, the statement continued, “The producers, cast and crew join us in wishing Beau the best in his next creative adventure.”

His replacement has not yet been named.

Star Kevin Spacey and pilot director David Fincher also serve as executive producers on the series, itself based on a 1990 BBC miniseries and the Michael Dobbs novel by the same name.

Why Buying Craft Beer in Big Bottles Probably Isn't a Good Idea Right Now

by Alan Henry

It’s no secret that when you buy anything you should choose your container based on unit price. Well, as VinePair notes, when it comes to craft beer sold in growlers and bombers, you’ll likely pay more for the bigger bottles than you would if you just bought a six pack.

Fourteen Prank Pics To Get You In The Mood For Some Trickery

by Zeon Santos
Corey

Pranks!

(Image Link)

Prankery can turn a dreary winters day into a hysterical chuckle fest full of sneaky tricks and impish laughter, and although the target of the prank may not appreciate the joke everybody else usually gets a good laugh out of it all.

(Image Link)

However,  it's important to keep your pranking within acceptable boundaries, to avoid causing bodily harm or emotional pain, but that still leaves lots of room to mess with people's minds.

(Image Link)

And if you simply can't find a new way to prank 'em all you can always go with a tried and true standard in the world of pranking- attaching an air horn to a toilet seat.

(Image Link)

Of course, you may want to conceal the air horn a bit better than this person did because you know what they say about paybacks...

Snow Transforms This Polish General into Darth Vader

by John Farrier

(Photos: Miaso Wejherowo)

Jakub Wejher was a nobleman who led Polish armies in several wars throughout the Seventeenth Century. He founded the town of Wejherowo, which is now graced with a statue to honor him.

When covered with snow, his long hair looks like Darth Vader's helmet and his cape, shaded in the night, looks like that of the Sith lord.

A few weeks ago, though, Count Jakub had not yet given in to the dark side.

Archer Quotes Work Really Well With James Bond Stills

by Zeon Santos

Sterling Archer can't even dream of being as good as James Bond at the secret agenting game, but that doesn't stop him from trying to channel that 007 vibe every day of his life.

And while Bond has definitely made some bold and memorable statements in his films, Archer has a way with words that tends to make people say "Wow, did he really just say that?".

But pretend like Archer's words are being said by James Bond and you've shaken up those fictional espionage films we all know and love in comedic style.

Basically it turns Bond into a doubly drunk, somehow slightly less lecherous, more conceited and a whole lot more idiotic version of 007...with a butler, and a lemur named Reggie.

Great Job, Internet!: Animated short pits Force Awakens characters against their Star Wars equivalents

by Caroline Siede

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: Star Wars: The Force Awakens is really similar to the original 1977 Star Wars. Crazy, right? Naturally, the hard-to-miss similarities between the two films have been a frequent topic of conversation since TFA’s release. So while Dorkly’s new animated short comparing the two films isn’t exactly timely, it does hit the nail on the head.

Dorkly highlights just how identical the two films are by pairing new characters with their previous equivalents. Luke and Rey banter about their totally different desert home worlds (Jakku only has one sun!), Han and Obi Wan discuss the downsides of mentorship, and Boba Fett and Captain Phasma come to the realization that they both kind of suck. Presumably Dorkly is saving the Yoda/Maz Kanata meeting for its 2017 Empire Strikes Back/Episode VIII mash-up, although the fact that this video doesn ...

Great Scott! New DeLoreans Will Be Manufactured in 2017, Flux Capacitor Not Included

by Ethan Anderton

2017 DeLorean

If last year’s celebration of Back to the Future and Back to the Future Part II wasn’t enough time travel adventure for you, then 2017 might have something you’ll enjoy, at least if you have between $80,000 and $100,000 lying around.

Today The DeLorean Motor Company announced that they will be building new DMC-12 DeLorean automobiles, the car used for the time machine in Robert Zemeckis‘ sci-fi classic. The new cars will begin being sold in 2017 thanks to a new law that exempts small volume car manufacturers from the safety requirements applied to most new car makers. Find out why new DeLoreans are allowed to be made after the jump.

The Verge reports that a new law allows the production of replica vehicles that are made to resemble cars that were manufactured at least 25 years ago, and the DeLorean qualifies. Under the new legislation the company will be able to sell as many as 325 replicas each year, however, DeLorean will only make that number over a span of five years.

This is pretty big news for Back to the Future fans who have always wanted their own DeLorean but couldn’t afford to buy one of the very limited available in the market. According to The DeLorean Museum, only about 6,500 DeLoreans are believed to be in existence today, which isn’t bad considering that only 9,200 were created between 1981 and 1982.

And even though these will be replicas of the original DeLorean, built with millions of factory parts (and some that have been recreated from the original blueprints), the 2017 DeLorean will have a more powerful engine. A V6 engine will be put in the new replicas giving the car between 350 and 370 horsepower, which is much more than the original 130 horsepower engine, making the car much faster than it was in the 1980s.

Other changes include larger wheels and tires, modern breaks and modern amenities like heated seats, GPS navigation and bluetooth phone connectivity. But the aesthetic of the exterior will be “virtually unchanged” according to DeLorean vice president James Espy (via Maxim).

Here’s hoping that DeLorean will come out with some kind of special edition that is modeled directly after the time machine from Back to the Future. At the very least, one should come with a flux capacitor or a Mr. Fusion, especially since the car will cost so much money. Do any of you out there have the money to drop on one of these fine cars?

The reveal of Earth is just beyond words. No planet is as beautiful as Earth and videos like this where we see Van Gogh in the moving clouds mixed with the colors of our land mass projected against the blue, no other planet even comes close.

Newswire: Triumph The Insult Comic Dog to host presidential election special for Hulu

by Sam Barsanti
Corey

Love Triumph.

So far, this whole presidential election thing has been a deeply thoughtful, refined, and all-around classy affair, with none of the candidates on either side of the aisle stooping to personal attacks or outlandish, blatantly racist statements. And since most professional comedians are struggling to find anything funny to say about Trump, Clinton, Sanders, Cruz, and whoever the other people are, Hulu and Funny Or Die have enlisted the help of someone who can find something to laugh about in these campaigns. Or, at the very least, he can probably find something—ahem—to poop on.

Yes, Triumph The Insult Comic Dog will be hosting an election special for Hulu, and Splitsider says it will premiere at some point next month. Appropriately titled Triumph’s Election Special 2016, the hourlong journalism event will feature Triumph interviewing people in a way that makes them look stupid, talking about the people around ...

LOL: The Totally True and Not-Made-Up Story of How Captain Phasma Got Her Armor

by Jacob Hall

captain phasma armor

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a good movie, but let’s not pretend that it’s free of sin. Here is a superbly crafted movie full of terrific actors giving wonderful performances, but you can fill a few buckets with the nitpicks you collect while watching it. Some you can brush off. Others stick in you, tear at your skin, and leave a little mark that makes you wonder what everyone was thinking.

Let’s turn our focus to Captain Phasma, the chrome-plated stormtrooper who was placed front and center in so much marketing (and in the toy aisle), only to literally do nothing of consequence in the final film. However, we can all agree on two things: that sure is some cool armor and actress Gwendoline Christie sure wears it well. But where did this suit of armor come from? Who made it? Who gave it to her? It turns out that Captain Phasma’s armor has a totally true origin story that actually happened and isn’t a silly video cooked up for internet laughs. Honest! And you can watch it below.

It turns out – and you may not be ready for this, so hold on to your butts – that Captain Phasma is the missing link between the Star Wars universe and the Game of Thrones universe. Yep, it’s no accident that Gwendoline Christie plays the noble Brienne of Tarth of HBO’s beloved fantasy drama series and the ruthless Captain Phasma in The Force Awakens. It turns out that they are one in the same! And that her chrome armor was gifted to her by her on-again, off-again frenemy Jaime Lannister!

You may be scoffing. You may not believe that Disney and HBO have secretly teamed up to merge their lucrative universes. But there is proof! And that proof this is piece of footage, smuggled out of wherever it was hidden by a team of Bothan spies.

As you surely and hopefully realized, this video is a just a fun gag cooked up by YouTuber levellord (and it’s also a slooow news day). For comparison, here’s the original scene from Game of Thrones, where Nikolaj Coster-Waldau‘s Jaime gifts Brienne with a new sword and an impressive set of armor.

If you watch that scene and feel a sudden stabbing sensation in your gut, that’s just your body reminding you how annoying it is that an actress of Christie’s caliber was so wasted in The Force Awakens. Imagine the fun/silly fan videos that could be made if Phasma were a proper character and not wallpaper! Thankfully, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy promises that Phasma will play a larger role in Star Wars: Episode 8. In the meantime, let’s pull a Patton-Oswalt-on-ParksandRecreation and imagine a scenario where Westeros and the Star Wars galaxy manage to co-exist and Bronn can duel Kylo Ren.
