'Swear Trek' Provides the Cursing Star Trek Crew We All Deserve
I think we all know that the shit the crews of Federation starships go through would provoke some pretty hardcore cursing from even the most stoic of people. Who isn’t going to let out a giant “FUCK” when their best friend is eaten by a salt vampire? Thankfully, a Twitter account has stepped up to fix the problem TV censors caused.

Idiocracy Director Says It's 'Scary' How Accurate His Movie Has Become
These days Mike Judge is busy with his HBO show Silicon Valley, but back in 2006 he made a movie that would become an instant cult classic. Set in a dystopian future, Idiocracy is now a cultural touchstone for people who think the world just keeps getting dumber. And now Judge says it’s “scary” how quickly his movie became reality.
"Curt Schilling Is the Next Donald Trump"
He's living proof of a truism H.L. Mencken noted nearly 100 years ago, i.e. that for a certain kind of person in America, failure is something you've got to sprint after at full speed to catch – it won't come to you:
"In the United States the business of getting a living is enormously easier than it is in any other Christian land – so easy, in fact, that a forehanded man who fails at it must almost make deliberate efforts to that end.
"Here the general average of intelligence, of knowledge, of competence, of integrity, of self-respect, of honor is so low that any man who knows his trade, does not fear ghosts, has read fifty good books, and practices the common decencies stands out as brilliantly as a wart on a bald head."
...
he might run for high office anyway, and would get lots of people to fund his effort, still more proof of how awesome it is to be a white guy in America.
Here you can be not just a failure, not just a spectacular failure, but a spectacular public failure, and people will keep throwing money and opportunities at you.

‘Step Brothers’ Stars Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly Reunite For Sherlock Holmes Movie
Remember way back in 2008, right around the time that the first of Guy Ritchie's action movie takes on Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes character was on the way starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, when there was a second more comedic Sherlock project in the works starring Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby co-stars Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell as Holmes and Watson?
The screenplay for the movie was written by Etan Cohen, but the movie didn't materialize at the time. Now comes word that the project, titled Holmes & Watson, is up and moving again. This time around Ferrell is set to play Holmes instead of Watson and another one of his Talladega Nights co-stars, John C. Reilly, who also starred with Ferrell in Step Brothers, is taking on the role of Watson. [...]

Sponsored locations will eventually come to Pokémon GO
CoreyVery smart.
Pokémon GO is a massive hit for Niantic and The Pokémon Company. After just a few days, the game has rocketed to the top of the Play Store, including the list of top grossing apps. So, it's already making a ton of money, but it's going to be making even more in the not too distant future. Niantic CEO John Hanke recently noted that sponsored locations will be part of the game.
Players of Niantic's last AR game Ingress will be familiar with sponsored locations.

Researchers have developed lithium batteries with twice the capacity of current ones and expect to have them ready for smartphones by 2017
The MIT researchers-turned-entrepreneurs at a company called SolidEnergy have something you've probably heard before but also something you haven't. A battery breakthrough that will drastically increase your future phone's battery life? We've heard that before. New battery tech that is ready for production within a year? That's new.
Most reports of major improvements in battery technology are high on optimism but low on information about reaching the marketplace. More often than not, research discoveries on batteries make it through one news cycle and if we ever hear about them again, it is many years later.

Robert Downey Jr. and ‘True Detective’ Creator Nic Pizzolatto Teaming for ‘Perry Mason’ HBO Series
It remains unclear whether True Detective will return for a third season, following a critically acclaimed first season and a widely panned second one. But in the meantime, it looks like creator Nic Pizzolatto will have a different HBO project to keep him busy. He and Robert Downey Jr. are in talks for a drama series at HBO that’s probably a reworked version of the Perry Mason movie that Downey has been trying to get off the ground for a while.
Variety reports Pizzolatto is attached to write and Downey is attached to lead the unnamed HBO drama project. Both will additionally produce, alongside Joe Horacek and Susan Downey. Confirmed details are scarce, but the trade’s sources say the new series is based on Downey’s long-gestating Perry Mason feature film. According to Deadline, the HBO drama will have shorter seasons (a la True Detective, which has had 8 episodes per season), with future seasons depending on Downey’s availability.
The Perry Mason character first appeared in the 1930s, in a series of novels Erle Stanley Gardner, but is probably best remembered as the lead character of the Perry Mason TV series that aired on CBS from 1957 to 1966 and starred Raymond Burr as the criminal defense lawyer. Other key characters include Perry’s secretary Della Street, private detective Paul Drake, and district attorney Hamilton Burger.
Downey has been working on a Perry Mason movie since about 2011, when he first set up the project at Warner Bros. The Perry Mason feature never got very far, and so Team Downey decided to shift gears and try again on the small screen. The big-screen version of the project was to be a period piece set in 1930s Los Angeles, but it’s unclear whether the HBO TV series will keep that retro setting. The Perry Mason HBO series will be Downey’s first regular TV role since Ally McBeal in the early 2000s.
While HBO has yet to announce a third season of True Detective, the premium cable network has made it clear they’d like to stay in business with Pizzolatto, signing him for an overall deal that keeps him in their stable through 2018. Pizzolatto’s other screen credits include episodes of AMC’s The Killing and the screenplay for Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming The Magnificent Seven remake.
Downey has spent most of the past few years playing Iron Man in the Marvel movies, returning earlier this year for Captain America: Civil War. He’ll reprise the role again in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. His recent non-superhero roles include the Sherlock Holmes franchise and another lawyer drama, The Judge.

‘Popstar’ Deleted Scene: Andy Samberg Takes a Stand Against Grumpasaurus Parents & Teachers
If you didn’t see Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping this summer, you’re part of the problem. Universal Pictures gave us this glorious, original comedy chock full of outstanding new songs from The Lonely Island, a barrage of incredible cameos, and some of the biggest laughs of the year. And how did audiences respond? Well, they didn’t, because the movie didn’t even hit $10 million in its theatrical run. But next month, you can make up for it when the movie hits home video.
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on September 13, and it will hit VOD a couple weeks earlier on August 30. To help promote the arrival of the movie, a Popstar deleted scene has made its away online featuring an entire song that didn’t make the final cut of the movie (though you could have listened to it on the soundtrack). But beware that this scene is NSFW due to language, because the song is called “Fuck Off,” and they repeat that phrase more than a few times throughout.
These concert sequences are some of the best parts of the movie, mostly because the production value behind them is off the charts. Conner4Real feels like a real pop star, and his concerts have all the bells and whistles of real concerts from some of today’s biggest musicians. The authenticity behind this music industry mockumentary is what makes the comedy work so well, and all the cuts to the crowd singing the song along with Conner helps to sell it even more.
In a summer of disappointing sequels and blockbusters, Popstar went by the wayside when it probably should have gotten a comfortable early spring or fall release so it didn’t get buried by all the other summer movies. So if you missed Popstar in its theatrical run, you really should make up for it by at least renting the movie when the time comes. If you need more convincing, read my glowing review of the comedy right here.
Universal Pictures’ Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is headlined by musical digital-shorts superstars Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, collectively known as The Lonely Island. The comedy goes behind the scenes as singer/rapper Conner4Real (Samberg) faces a crisis of popularity after his sophomore album flops, leaving his fans, sycophants and rivals all wondering what to do when he’s no longer the dopest star of all.
The latest comedy from blockbuster producer Judd Apatow (Trainwreck, Superbad, Knocked Up) co-stars Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows and Maya Rudolph and many of the biggest names in comedy and music in cameo performances. Co-directed by Schaffer and Taccone and written by The Lonely Island trio, Popstar is also produced by Rodney Rothman (producer of Get Him to the Greek, Forgetting Sarah Marshall; co-writer of 22 Jump Street), as well as Samberg, Schaffer and Taccone.
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping hits Blu-ray and DVD on September 13 and VOD a couple weeks earlier on August 30.

Hoboken Biergarten Celebrates 5 Year Anniversary With Danke Schoen Event
One Of The World's Crappiest Jobs- Professional Poo Diver
CoreyOof.
Sewage is constantly flowing beneath our major cities, our every flush adding to the sea of sewage beneath our feet that we try not to think about very often.
But how can you stop thinking about it, and therefore stop being reminded of your crappy job, when you're a professional poo diver?
If you're Brendan Walsh, owner of Melbourne's East West Dive and Salvage, you remind yourself that your job keeps the waste flowing, and without you people would be plodding around in that fithy muck.
Brendan's company dives into other no-air environments besides sewage, but the poo diving gig is the most important for the community because Australia's sewage system is a bit different than most:
...in Australia, we don’t process our sewerage with chemicals. We get bacteria to break down the solids by aerating them with big stirring machines, 24 hours a day. It’s a very aggressive environment, and moving parts constantly break.
Because the stirring machines are constantly breaking down, and all that crap can't be drained away, sewage farms hire divers like Brendan to do the repairs in a pitch black sea of poop.
And as long as Melbourne keeps crapping Brendan and his team of turd divers will always have their really crappy job.
Shane Black Calls A Monster Squad Sequel “Interesting”
CoreyYeeeeeessssssss
Shane Black of Iron Man 3 and The Nice Guys fame says it would be “interesting” to come back to The Monster Squad.
The original film, directed by Fred Dekker, was one of Black’s first projects. Looking back on it now, it features early versions of hallmark Black ideas and characters. It was a box office dud, but found a loyal audience on cable; thanks to latchkey kids who no doubt identified with the group of horror movie fans united to fight classic movie monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster and the Wolfman.
A remake has been in the works for sometime, but when IGN asked Black about coming back to the original characters thirty-odd years on, he said it “would be interesting” to approach the concept from both angles: remake and sequel. “They’re thirty years apart and so are the kids; the characters have aged. As long as people understood that’s what we’re doing, I think that could be fun.”
But he also noted the premise — bringing a group of kids who fought evil back together as adults — is quite similar to Stephen King‘s It. That novel is currently being adapted into a feature by Andrés Muschietti. “I don’t know how you would distance yourself from that,” said Black.
Also, thirty-year later sequels haven’t exactly worked, with only Star Wars: The Force Awakens avoiding a lot of the pitfalls by successfully shifting the series’ original cast into supporting roles. And while a lot of 80s movies have the potential for remakes, many of them do not lend themselves as well to getting the band back together. Perhaps Black could make it work, but it would be a tall order to capture that magic again.
Then again, he is trying to recapture magic with his upcoming Predator film.
Mr. Robot Receives Third Season Renewal
USA has given the green light to Mr. Robot for a third season. The series from creator Sam Esmail was recently nominated for six Emmy’s including best drama series and Rami Malek for best actor. The renewal was a little in doubt as the series traditional ratings have been dipping, but the show has faired well with multi-platform / on-demand viewing and reaches an edgier, younger-skewing audience that USA wants.
The series follows Elliot Alderson (Malek), a cyber-security expert who is recruited by the leader of an underground hacker group (Christian Slater) as they go up against Evil Corp. The series also stars Portia Doubleday, Carly Chaikin, Martin Wallstrom and Grace Gummer.

‘Deadwood’ Movie Screenplay Now Being Written
CoreyCmoooon. Do it!
Earlier this year we found out that HBO had committed to making a Deadwood movie after those whispers that they were considering it made the rounds a year ago.
At the time series creator David Milch was working on another project, and the plan was that he would begin working on the Deadwood movie screenplay after he finished work on that project. All of this appears to be falling into place with word that Milch is in fact writing the script now. [...]

Han Solo Standalone ‘Star Wars’ Story Eyeing Donald Glover To Play Lando Calrissian
CoreyI like it.
Finding the right person to play Han Solo wasn't easy, but directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller found their smuggler in Hail, Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich. The film won't be released until 2018, but we are slowly learning more about it. In recent weeks, rumors like Solo appearing in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story have been shot down, but there has also been confirmation that Chewbacca would appear.
Now there is word that another legendary Star Wars character will make an appearance in Solo's solo film. According to a new report Lando Calrissian will be part of the film, and it's who might be playing him that has many of us interested. The Martian and Community star Donald Glover is being eyed to play him. More on the story below. [...]
