Andre The Giant Documentary From WWE, Bill Simmons Coming To HBO

by The Movie God

WWE, Bill Simmons Making Andre the Giant Doc For HBO

It was always a bit strange that no one had made a movie about the fascinating and sometimes heartbreaking life of wrestling legend and The Princess Bride star Andre the Giant.

In May of last year, we found out that this might change with word that a movie was finally being developed. The biggest challenge with that project, of course, is finding someone to actually play the giant.

Now comes word of another Andre project that's on the way and doesn't have to worry about casting someone to play the larger than life figure. It's been announced that the WWE, HBO Sports, and Bill Simmons are teaming up to make a documentary simply titled Andre the Giant. [...]

Kevin Smith adapting Sam and Twitch for TV

by Anthony

ComicBook.com is reporting that Clerks film maker Kevin Smith is developing the Todd McFarlane comic series “Sam and Twitch” as a TV show for BBC America.

Kevin Smith will develop Sam & Twitch, a police procedural set in the world of Todd McFarlane’s Spawn comics, for BBC America, Deadline reports.

The series, which enjoyed a critically-acclaimed run by Jessica Jones creator Brian Michael Bendis early in his career, is the latest in a series of high-profile adaptations for the network.

Sam and Twitch first appear in Spawn #1. They would get their own series seven years later in 1999 with Sam and Twitch #1. Both have seen small sales recently.

“[Smith] is attached to write, direct and executive producer a series based on the Sam And Twitch comic book series for us,” BBC America president and general manager Sarah Barnett said. “They were originally introduced in Spawn, and it’s Todd McFarlane’s comic book series about these big-city homicide detectives who face a series of super grisly crimes that are connected to the occult. It’s kind of frightening and sort of gallows humor. It’s, again, procedural, but in a very modern, contemporary way. So each episode is closed ended, although there are certain character-serialized aspects to the storytelling.”

Jay And Silent Bob Will Return In Kevin Smith’s Next Film: Jay And Silent Bob Reboot

by Jude Terror

jayandsilentbob

Kevin Smith is making a sequel to 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. The Jersey film and comic shop mogul revealed the news in an Instagram post today.

Called Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, the film will be about the titular characters (played by Jason Mewes and Smith himself) returning to Hollywood to stop a reboot of the Bluntman and Chronic film they were trying to stop in the first movie. Smith says he movie will satirize Hollywood’s reboot culture, and that he had “the time of my life laughing” while writing the script last month. Smith originally planned a third Clerks film, but one of the leads dropped out. Smith chose to make a new Jay and Silent Bob film because he owns the rights to the characters, unlike Clerks or Mallrats.

Check out the Instagram post for more details below:

This is not a drill! This is an actual image from my laptop! Yes, Kids – @jayandsilentbob are coming back! Here's the story: Sadly, Clerks III can't happen (one of our four leads opted out of the flick). So I worked on a #Mallrats movie instead… which also didn't happen because it turned into a #Mallrats series. I've pitched said sequel series to 6 different networks only to find no takers thus far. Mind you, I'm not complaining: nobody gets to make EVERYTHING they wanna make in this business (do they?). And I've been lucky to make anything at all, there's so much competition out there, so many much cooler ideas from fresh folks. And besides: I had #comicbookmen and then @tuskthemovie and @yogahosers (which all came together so crazy quickly), and the podcasts and #fatmanonbatman. With all of that, how could I bitch about no Clerks III or Mallrats 2? Then when I started directing @thecw shows, it was such a slice of Heaven on Earth, I happily put my Askewniverse sequels to the side. Since I sold #Clerks and #Mallrats years ago, they're owned by others, which limits my moves with my own material. I don't mind: back in the day, all I ever wanted to do was sell my stuff so I could be in the movie biz in the first place. So I don't own Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy or #Dogma… But I DO own #jayandsilentbob. So while I love playing with someone else's new toys on @cwtheflash and @Supergirl, I'm getting eager to play with my old toys again in the inter-connected View Askewniverse I spent the first half of my career creating. And so all last month, I had the time of my life laughing while writing "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot" – a fun flick in which the Jersey boys have to go back to Hollywood to stop a brand new reboot of the old "Bluntman & Chronic Movie" they hated so much. It's a tongue-in-cheek, silly-ass satire that pokes fun at the movie business's recent re-do obsession, featuring an all-star cast of cameos and familiar faces! And I already met with the good folks at Miramax and they're into it, so I'm hoping we'll be shooting in the summer! Never give up, kids. You CAN do anything you want in life, so long as you're patient and malleable. #KevinSmith

Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi Will Direct WGN’s Scalped Pilot

by Jude Terror

scalped

Belgian directors Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi have been hired to direct the pilot for WGN’s adaptation of Scalped, the comic book by Jason Aaron and R.M. Guéra. The show, described as “a modern-day crime story set in the world of a Native American reservation, Scalped explores power, loyalty and spirituality in a community led by the ambitious Chief Lincoln Red Crow as he reckons with Dashiell Bad Horse, who has returned home after years away from the reservation,” will reportedly feature a predominantly Native American cast, according to Deadline. Scalped ran for 60 issues at Vertigo, so there’s plenty of material to adapt.

Bleeding Cool’s own Eliot Cole had a chance to read the script for the pilot, written by Doug Jung. You can read his review here.

Science Guy’s New Show, Bill Nye Saves The World, Takes On Topics Like Climate Change On Netflix April 21

by Jude Terror

billnyesavestheworld

Bill Nye the Science Guy is making his TV comeback in April with Bill Nye Saves The World, a Netflix original series that will see Nye using the powers of science to debunk silly claims, basically. The official description says that each episode will “tackle a topic from a scientific point of view, dispelling myths, and refuting anti-scientific claims that may be espoused by politicians, religious leaders or titans of industry.” Nye says that some of the topics that will be addressed include “vaccinations, genetically modified foods and climate change.” Should be fun to watch everyone freak out about this.

And watch it we shall, as the show, first announced last Summer, finally has a release date:

‘Iron Fist’ Trailer: Danny Rand Embraces His Destiny

by Angie Han

Iron Fist Trailer

As hyped as we are for Marvel’s The Defenders, we’ve still got one last stop before we get there. Next month brings Iron Fist, which introduces Danny Rand (Finn Jones) as the fourth and final Defender and brings some magical martial arts into the mix. The new trailer plays kind of like a lighter Batman Begins, with Danny — the long-lost scion of a multibillion-dollar corporate enterprise — returning with some mysterious powers to reclaim his place in society and beat up lots of bad guys along the way.

Rosario Dawson returns as Claire Temple, basically the glue holding this entire corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe together; and Jessica Henwick plays Danny’s new friend Colleen Wing. Watch the Iron Fist trailer below.

Iron Fist Trailer

All the Netflix Marvel shows so far (i.e., Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage) have been really good about establishing their own identities while also maintaining a coherent feel. It’s nice to see that Iron Fist brings something new to this gritty little corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though from here it’s tough to imagine how this kid is gonna get along with Matt, Jessica, and Luke when they finally all meet. At least he’s already got Claire Temple in his corner, I guess. Even if she does respond to his announcement that he is the Iron Fist with “what the hell does that mean?” I guess we’ll all find out when Iron Fist hits Netflix on March 17.

Fifteen years after being presumed dead in a plane crash, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) mysteriously returns to New York City determined to reclaim his birthright and family company. However, when a long-destined enemy rises in New York, this living weapon is forced to choose between his family’s legacy and his duties as the Iron Fist. Marvel’s Iron Fist premieres March 17, 2017 exclusively on Netflix.

Honest Merit Badges for the Entitled Millennial Generation

by Natty B

I am thankfully not part of the millennial generation.  It’s considered one of the most entitlend, lazy, “I shouldn’t have to do anything to be successful” generations of all-time.  While there are researchers that argue that millennials were raised this way and it wasn’t all their fault, there are equal parts if not more people who are kind of fed up at the lack of work ethic this subculture displays.  I’m somewhere in between.  I think plenty of millennials are awful and do feel this sense of entitlement but there are plenty out there putting in the work and time to function in society. Still though, it’s funny when people capture the millennial “vibe” in creative ways.  Myka Fox, a contributing writer to Someecards who may or may not be a millennial summed up the generation incredibly well with a series of “merit badges” that the millennial generation could “earn”…

Beautiful Waterfalls From Around the World

by Jill Harness

There are so many beautiful places in the world and waterfalls tend to always be on that list. Over on Travel and Leisure, you can see some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world.

Tall and short, wide and thin, slow and fast, there are all kinds of waterfalls on the list, but each one is amazing in its own wonderful way. For example, the Iguazu Falls in Argentina (just above) is made up of 275 individual falls that stretch across two miles of rainforest cliffs. Meanwhile, the Akaka Falls in Hawaii (top) is more than twice as tall as Niagra Falls.

‘Arrested Development’ Season 5 Could be a (Partial) Prequel

by Jacob Hall

arrested development season 5

There has been talk of Arrested Development season 5 since the day after season four debuted on Netflix in 2013, which means that we’ve been writing stories about how another batch of episodes is on the way for about four years now. Remember when it was definitely going to happen in 2016? And then it wasn’t? Earlier this month, we were told that season five was only a few weeks away from some kind of breakthrough.

And maybe they were serious this time? Because a new story about the basic structure of a potential fifth season of the beloved comedy series has hit the internet and it makes enough sense to feel true.

According to a story over at TV Line, Arrested Development season 5 will feature a number of flashbacks, with the scenes in the past comprising up to half of the season. These scenes will feature younger actors taking on the spoiled, selfish members of the Bluth clan, with the regular cast members reuniting for the storylines set in the present. Naturally, this is all in flux and could change.

And while this is a major creative shake-up, it’s also a practical decision. In the years since Arrested Development was originally cancelled on Fox, the cast has scattered and found success all over the place. You can’t blink without seeing Jason Bateman and Will Arnett pop up in movies and on television. Jeffrey Tambor and Tony Hale have been scooping up Emmy Awards as cast members on Transparent and Veep. Michael Cera, Alia Shawkat, Jessica Walter, Portia de Rossi, and David Cross have kept busy, too. So getting all of these people in the same room to film a new season of television is like trying to herd cats. Cast with a dozen separate responsibilities and places to be.

The divisive fourth season of Arrested Development got around these scheduling issues by isolating the actors into their own plots, using a humorously complex structure to jump through time, with punchlines to jokes arriving hours before the the set-up and disparate storylines bouncing off each other in unexpected ways. It was ambitious, but it didn’t always work, revealing how much of the original show’s mighty comic energy came from this entire cast sharing the screen at the same time. With this new set-up, as TV Line’s source says, “More of the episodes can now include all of the original cast together, with lots of big group family scenes.”

The plot of Arrested Development season 5 remains unknown, but season 4 ended with a few lingering cliffhangers that will provide ample reasons for this dysfunctional crew to reunite. If the partial prequel idea moves forward, casting will be key – if the younger versions of these characters don’t have the same chemistry, what’s the point?

Bryan Singer To Direct ‘X-Men’ Television Series Pilot For Fox [UPDATED]

by Jack Giroux

X-Men TV series

UPDATE: Fox has announced that Bryan Singer, the director of X-Men, X2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and X-Men: Apocalypse will helm the pilot.

FX’s upcoming Legion may not be the only X-Men-related show we’ll see in the near future. Fox has officially ordered a pilot for the X-Men television series from executive producer and Burn Notice creator, Matt Nix that was announced last year. Based on what Laura Shuler Donner has previously shared about Nix’s show, the story takes place in a world where people are well aware of mutants. Not only do they know they exist, most people hate them, as they typically do in the movies.

Below, learn more about the X-Men TV show.

X-Men franchise director Bryan Singer, screenwriter Simon Kinberg, and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory are producing the show, which they officially started working on last July. The story follows parents discovering their children have mutant powers, with them going on the run to protect them from the government and eventually finding themselves a part of an underground network of mutants.

Despite how bewildering the X-Men timeline and franchise can, Nix has said there won’t be any confusion as to where the series fits into the mythology. The Burn Notice creator wrote the pilot and, if the X-Men television series moves forward, he’s the showrunner.

During the recent TCA’s, Donner said “you feel like you’re here in the X-Men world” with Nix’s series (via Collider):

Matt’s is much more a part of just the world in terms of there are mutants, mutants are hated and there are Sentinels — though very different from what we’ve seen before. You feel like you’re here in the X-Men world. With Legion, we’re our own universe. It gives Noah the freedom to do what he wants to do. Because we play with so many different timelines, and we rebooted and not really rebooted and all that, we felt like, OK, we’re going to throw it out there and hope the fans accept it.

The story doesn’t connect to the X-Men universe as much as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. does with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It would answer questions fans might have about the timeline and the more famous X-Men characters, but Nix said it wouldn’t go overboard in that regard; he doesn’t plan on checking off too many names. The showrunner envisions season one as 12 or 13 episodes, featuring some familiar characters and some new ones. We’ll wait and see if the X-Men series moves forward, but if it does, it’ll join another successful comic book show on Fox, Gotham. After the success they’ve had with that show, it’s not surprising they’re interested in bringing X-Men to their network.

There’s a ‘Ghostbusters’ Escape Room in Washington DC, So What Are You Waiting For?

by Ethan Anderton

Ghostbusters Escape Room

Most likely, you didn’t get a chance to check out the Ghostbusters VR experience that was available at Madam Tussauds in Times Square last summer. But if you happen to be in Washington DC sometime soon (maybe because you’re protesting the inauguration of a certain someone), then you’ll get another opportunity to check out an immersive Ghostbusters experience.

Escape Rooms are all the rage right now. If you haven’t heard of this fun phenomenon, it’s basically a puzzle that you’re a part of, almost like a game of Clue. You’re stuck in a room, and you have to solve puzzles with the various items that are in the room in order to escape. One company in Washington DC has made their experience even more unique by tying their Escape Rooms into movies, and one of them is a Ghostbusters Escape Room. Get a sneak preview after the jump.

Though parts of the video are cheesy with low production value, it looks like the Ghostbusters Escape Room itself is a solid creation. There are even parts of the experience that use iPads and augmented reality to complete certain tasks (though some reviews on Yelp do indicate that those elements don’t always work properly). Plus, they utilize characters such as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Slimer in cool ways.

So if you’re in Washington DC, or maybe you feel like making a trip just for this, you can get all the information you need over at the Escape Room Live website, where you can make a reservation and more. Anyone out there who has checked this out should let us know about their experience in the comments!

See How All The Pixar Movies Are Connected Through A Russian Nesting Doll Of Easter Eggs

by Ethan Anderton
Corey

So good.

Pixar Movies Connceted

If you’re a true Pixar Animation fan, then you’ve probably heard all about the meticulously crafted theory that explains how all the movies could exist within the same universe. It’s called The Pixar Theory, and it uses several key details, including some of Pixar’s famous easter eggs, to tie all of the movies together.

Though Pixar Animation has acknowledged the existence of the theory, they haven’t officially confirmed or denied its validity. However, a new video released officially by Disney comes close to affirming the wild theory that connects all the movies. Weaving through every Pixar Animation feature film, from this year’s Finding Dory all the way back to Toy Story, the video acts as a sort of Russian nesting doll of Pixar’s easter eggs that connect each movie to the one that came before it.

See the Pixar movies connected through Disney’s easter egg video after the jump.

Just to be clear, this video isn’t confirming The Pixar Theory, but it’s rather interesting how they’ve connected all the movies through these easter eggs tied to the characters of the movie that came before them. Despite our extensive posts about Pixar easter eggs over the years, I either didn’t know about a few of these easter eggs, or I just forgot about them. So maybe some of these will be a surprise to you as well.

This year Pixar has two movies coming out, Cars 3 on June 16 and Coco on November 22, so there’s likely some kind of Cars 3 easter egg in Finding Dory, as well as a Coco easter egg in Cars 3. So keep your eyes peeled when you see Pixar’s latest movies this year.
