Mindhunter Season 2 Officially Confirmed by Netflix

by Ray Flook
Corey

This show is excellent.

With a first season that’s still currently streaming and riding a wave of both viewer and critical acclaim, Netflix officially announced on Thursday that crime drama series Mindhunter has been renewed for a second season.

Though the streaming service made the renewal official this week, the news comes as no surprise to both fans and those involved directly with the David Fincher series. Holt McCallany (FBI Agent Bill Tench) recently spoke with Collider and stated that prep and pre-production had already begun on the sophomore season:

“Right now I’m prepping for Mindhunter Season 2, reading, doing lots of research. The scripts are great and I think fans will be happy with how it’s developing. To potentially work with someone like David [Fincher] over the course of multiple seasons is an honor, and I’m excited to do more with the character of Bill Tench. I can take my time, and I can really explore this guy over a long period of time. I think it’s gonna be just an amazing adventure.”

For his part, Fincher is already on record as saying that the next season would focus on The Atlanta Child Murders, which resulted in the deaths of at least 28 African-American children, adolescents, and adults between 1979-1981 and kept the country in a grip of fear for two years. FBI agent John E. Douglas (on which Jonathan Groff’s Holden Ford is based) would eventually catch the killer; and interestingly enough, also earn him an official reprimand over the manner in which the case was handled.

Fincher directed four episodes and executive produces Mindhunter, which takes place in 1979 and focuses on FBI Special Agents Holden Ford (Groff) and Bill Tench (McCallany) during the early days of the FBI’s serial killer profiling unit. The partners interview imprisoned serial killers in order to better understand how they think and operate, which they then apply to solving open cases. But as the agents delve deeper into the minds of the most criminally insane, those around them worry if they can find their way back. And even if they do… can they ever be the same again?

Mindhunter also stars Anna Torv (Fringe) and Hannah Gross (Unless), with Fincher sharing the directing chair with Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna), Tobias Lindholm (A War, A Hijacking) and Andrew Douglas (The Amityville Horror). Fincher, Joshua Donen (Gone Girl)Charlize Theron (Girlboss, Hatfields & McCoys) and  Cean Chaffin (Fight Club) are serving as executive producers.

Sex Education: Netflix Enrolls In Eleven Film’s Teen Sex Dramedy Series

by Ray Flook
sex education series netflix
Credit: Netflix

Looks like Netflix is getting into the “sex ed” business; except this time, it’s not birds, bees and uncomfortably (& anatomically) awkward diagrams. We’re talking Sex Education, a coming-of-age comedy/drama series from British producer Eleven Film. Created by newcomer Laurie Nunn (Pregnant Pause) and directed by Ben Taylor (Catastrophe), the series is expected to begin production in the U.K. in Spring 2018 for a 2019 premiere. Eleven Film co-founders Jamie Campbell and Joel Wilson will serve as executive producers.

Netflix’s Sex Education tells the story of Otis Thompson, a socially awkward high school student (and virgin) who lives with his sex therapist mother. He befriends “whip-smart bad-girl” Maeve, and the two devise a plan to set up their own clinic to deal with their fellow students’ weird and wonderful problems.

Taking in ancient rainforests, full moon beach-parties, futuristic Asian mega-cities and remote monasteries in the foothills of the Himalayas, Gap Year is a new, eight-part comedy drama from Tom Basden (Plebs, Fresh Meat, BBC’s forthcoming Quacks).

Gap Year begins with best mates Dylan (Anders Hayward) and Sean (Ade Oyefeso) who set out to backpack through China after Dylan’s split from girlfriend Lauren (Rachel Redford), but they end up travelling the whole continent of Asia after meeting Ashley (Brittney Wilson), Greg (Tim Key) and May (Alice Lee)

The series serves as Eleven Film’s first order from Netflix, with co-founder Campbell finding the streaming service an “exceptional partner;” and that both personally and professionally, he was “thrilled to go on this journey together”. Eleven Film is also the production company responsible for the Hulu and E4 comedy, Gap Year.

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with the Eleven team, creator Laurie Nunn, and executive producer and director Ben Taylor to bring Sex Education – a distinctive, fresh and witty examination of the universally awkward teenage experience – to our members around the world.”

– Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content, Netflix

Vikings Season 5 Premieres Tomorrow, So Let’s Catch Up

by Mary Anne Butler

History Channel’s epic adventure series Vikings comes back tomorrow night for its fifth season. Originally, this was going to be the very last for the show, but the network opted to bring it back for another. Sources can’t seem to agree if this happened because of the outpouring of love and support for the show witnessed at SDCC 2017, but it probably didn’t hurt the decision, either.

Vikings season 5

Fans of the series may recall the end of season 4 was a harsh one, the loss of father and king Ragnar Lothbrok played so wonderfully by Travis Fimmel. Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) as the eldest of the Lothbrok sons led his brothers in the raid.

Ragnar’s many sons vowed to avenge their father, and laid siege to the kingdom of Wessex and King Ecbert (Linus Roache) in the process.

Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) had once again reclaimed (and defended) Kattegat with her female honor guard of Torvi (Georgia Hirst), Astrid (Josefin Applaud), and Marguerite (Ida Nielsen).

Vikings Alex Hogh Andersen

Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen) continues to set himself apart from his brothers on his quest to be as ruthless as his father, killing his brother Sigurd (David Lindström).

Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) has been slowly losing his grip on reality after the death of his wife Helga (Maude Hirst), and makes a hard decision that will obviously effect the rest of his life.

The brothers Harald (Peter Franzén) and Halfdan (Jasper Pääkkönen) raided with the sons of Ragnar to England and beyond, but Harald is still on his mission to become the king of all Norway — no matter what.

Rollo (Clive Standen) remains in France with his wife Princess Gisla (Morgane Polanski), after successfully aiding his nephew Bjorn and repelling the Viking armies from invading.

We were introduced to the new warrior on the block, Heahmund (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) the crusader priest. I say crusader only because of his sword.

Season 5 of Vikings will be jam-packed with action and intrigue, if the trailer is anything to go from:

Check back in a bit; we’ll be running more Vikings goodness later today ahead of tomorrow night’s season 5 premiere.

Stripes: CBS Brings Bill Murray’s Comedy To Series, Ivan Reitman Directs

by Ray Flook

Looks like Bill Murray‘s 1981 film Stripes will be getting that special “CBS comedy touch,” as word has come down that The Eye Network is developing a series based on the military comedy. Original film director Ivan Reitman is expected to direct and executive produce via his Montecito Picture Company. The Whitest Kids U’Know‘s Trevor Moore, Sam Brown, and Zach Cregger are on board to write the single camera series; and will also serve as executive producers.

Similar to the original Murray/Harold Ramis film, CBS’ series will follow “a perennial rebellious outsider who finally finds his purpose in life when he joins the US military and must unite a group of ragtag eccentrics.” The series has a tough act to follow: the 80’s film grossed $85+ million during its theatrical run, and has developed an avid fan following over the past 35+ years.

John Winger (Bill Murray) is a cab driver who, in the span of a few hours, loses his job, his apartment, his car, and his girlfriend. Realizing that he is a loser with no prospects, he decides to join the Army. Talking his best friend Russell Ziskey (Harold Ramis), a teacher of English as a second language, into joining with him, they go to a recruiting office and are soon sent off to basic training.

stripes bill murray 80s military comedy

Sony Pictures Television will produce Stripes in association with CBS Television Studios. Julius Goldy Sharpe and Tom Pollock have also signed up as executive producers; with Amie Karp and Peter Fried producing.

Interestingly enough, this is only the latest attempt by Hollywood to totally strip mine my lifetime of fond cinematic memories. Fox is currently working up a series pilot inspired by the Arnold Schwarzenegger/Jamie Lee Curtis/young Eliza Dushku (go on…look it up…I’ll wait…) movie True Lies, with the film’s director James Cameron attached as an executive producer. CBS is also looking to develop a series based on James Ellroy‘s novel L.A. Confidential, which was adapted into an award-winning film in 1997.

One can only hope that Stripes is able to reach the high bar of comedic excellence established by such classics as 2 Broke Girls and Two-And-A-Half Menthat’s the fact, Jack!

ONE Championship 64 highlights: Martin Nguyen is a 2-division champ due to this crazy KO

by Blue Corner

Filed under: Blue Corner, Featured Videos, News

Dann StuppONE Championship now has a two-division titleholder of its own.

This past Friday in ONE Championship 64’s headliner, Martin Nguyen (9-2) scored a stunning knockout of Eduard Folayang (18-6).

With the victory, which streamed online from Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines, featherweight champ Nguyen added the lightweight title to his collection.

Check out the dazzling knockout, which came during a counter to a spinning attack, above.

Here’s another look at it (via Twitter):

Sure, it does’t exactly put Nguyen in the same company as two-division UFC titleholders Georges St-Pierre, Conor McGregor, B.J. Penn and Randy Couture, but it’s still a solid achievement for the fighter – and a nice selling point for ONE Championship’s future events with the 28-year-old Australian, who now has seven knockouts in 10 career wins.

Bill Murray And Bryan Doyle-Murray Go ‘Extra Innings’ For Facebook Watch

by Ray Flook

The Murray Brothers are taking their love for “America’s past time” to the highways and byways of the country’s minor league baseball leagues, and they’re taking us along for the ride. Bill Murray and Brian Doyle-Murray’s Extra Innings is a 10-episode unscripted comedy series set to debut on Facebook Watch on Monday, November 20th, with new eight-minute episodes available on Mondays. The series will boast “The Thing About Baseball,” a theme song performed by Murray and written by Paul Shaffer, Murray, and Doyle-Murray.

Here’s a first look at the series:

Bill Murray is a well-known Chicago Cubs fan, but he’s also a longtime booster of minor league baseball as part owner of the St. Paul Saints and the Charleston RiverDogs as well as an investor in other teams. In the series, Bill and Brian bring humor and heart to local ballparks and communities, visiting minor league ballclubs including the RiverDogs, the Saints, the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks, and Kansas City T-Bones. They also spend time with the Kansas City MLB Urban Youth Academy and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

The concept behind the series sprang from an unexpected meeting between Doyle-Murray and producer Oso Studios founder Dub Cornett (Mike Judge Presents: Tales From the Tour Bus, The Last Ride) at a mutual friend’s birthday party:

I thought that traveling with the Murray Brothers to games around America would be a fun, cool show and so did they. It’s simple as that.

Doyle-Murray: Doing this project was more fun than a bench-clearing brawl. And like a baseball bench-clearing brawl, no one got hurt!

Bill Murray and Brian Doyle-Murray’s Extra Innings is executive produced by Murray, Doyle-Murray, and Cornett; co-executive produced by Jason Ross; and produced by Victoria Lily Shaffer.

“It was like being on a vacation, in a weird way. We would watch baseball sometimes and go find pie or milkshakes other times.” –Cornett

‘Game Night’ Trailer: Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams Have a Real Bad Time

by Jacob Hall

game night trailer

It’s easy to imagine the pitch meeting for Game Night, a high concept dark comedy about an evening of frivolous fun gone horrifically wrong. “What if David Fincher’s The Game starred a bunch of bumbling idiots?” Well, here you go. The first Game Night trailer is here, and I’ll be the first to admit that it made me chuckle more than a few times.

This is a low comedy, but there’s nothing wrong with a low comedy that works! Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams lead a strong cast as a couple whose weekly game night spirals out of control when an interactive “murder mystery” element is introduced. But what’s real and what’s not? And why are people actually dying and why are guns going off? And why is that dog covered in blood?

Game Night Trailer

Most importantly, Game Night is a Friday Night Lights reunion, once again putting Kyle Chandler and Jesse Plemons within spitting distance of each other. Texas forever!

While this is undeniably a glossy studio comedy hoping to please the broadest audience possible, I’ll just be honest with you and admit that yes, I laughed during this trailer. I laughed a lot. I especially laughed during the plane engine gag, an amusing bit brilliantly punctuated by McAdams’ line delivery. While I’m not a fan of Vacation, the previous film from directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (okay, it’s straight-up rotten), the dark edge on display in this footage has my attention. After all, Bateman has been at his best when his “straightforward nice guy” persona is pushed to uncomfortable extremes, and McAdams is a frequently underutilized comedic talent. Bring it on.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Bateman and McAdams star as Max and Annie, whose weekly couples game night gets kicked up a notch when Max’s charismatic brother, Brooks (Chandler), arranges a murder mystery party, complete with fake thugs and faux federal agents. So when Brooks gets kidnapped, it’s all part of the game…right? But as the six uber-competitive gamers set out to solve the case and win, they begin to discover that neither this “game”—nor Brooks—are what they seem to be. Over the course of one chaotic night, the friends find themselves increasingly in over their heads as each twist leads to another unexpected turn. With no rules, no points, and no idea who all the players are, this could turn out to be the most fun they’ve ever had…or game over.

Game Night also stars Billy Magnussen, Sharon Horgan, Lamorne Morris, Kylie Bunbury, Danny Huston, and Michael C. Hall and opens on March 2, 2018.

Cool Stuff: Let Mr. Fusion from ‘Back to the Future Part II’ Charge Your Phone

by Ethan Anderton

Back to the Future Mr. Fusion Car Charger

When Doc Brown barrels into Marty McFly’s driveway at the end of Back to the Future, not only does he come with concerns about the future, but he has a new piece of technology.

While the original Back to the Future time machine needed plutonium to create a nuclear reaction to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity necessary to charge the flux capacitor, an upgrade allows Doc Brown to use everyday trash to create the nuclear reaction. That upgrade is called Mr. Fusion, and now you can pick up one of your own to charge your cell phone from your own time machine.

Check out the Back to the Future Mr. Fusion car charger below.

Here’s ThinkGeek’s exclusive, officially licensed Back to the Future Mr. Fusion car charger:

mrfusion-carcharger2 mrfusion-carcharger1

The car charger fits in a cup holder and plugs int your car’s 12V vehicle power adapter. It has two USB ports for charging smart phones, tablets, GPS devices or anything that has a USB power plug. And even though it flips open just like the Mr. Fusion in the movie, it won’t turn trash into power.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to travel through time by using the devices, but you could always pair it with the flux capacitor car charger that was released awhile back (at least if you can still find one). It would be even better if you could hook both devices up in that sleek, custom Volkswagen Bus time machine that we highlighted a little while back.

Amazon Orders Garth Ennis And Darick Robertson’s ‘The Boys’ To Series

by Ray Flook

Amazon continues to put its money where its mouth is when it comes to genre programming, officially greenlighting an eight-episode adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson‘s superhero drama comic, The Boys.

Created by Eric Kripke (Supernatural, Timeless) and directed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (Preacher), Deadline: Hollywood also reports the series order comes less than three months after the streaming service initially announced the project was being developed. Sony Pictures TV Studios will co-produce with Amazon, and Neal H. Moritz’s studio-based Original Films.

The Boys ran for 72 issues between 2008 and 2012, initially published by Wildstorm for the first six issues before moving to Dynamite Entertainment for the remainder of its run. Here’s a quick overview of the comic book series:

THIS IS GOING TO HURT! In a world where costumed heroes soar through the sky and masked vigilantes prowl the night, someone’s got to make sure the “supes” don’t get out of line. And someone will. Billy Butcher, Wee Hughie, Mother’s Milk, The Frenchman and The Female are The Boys: A CIA backed team of very dangerous people, each one dedicated to the struggle against the most dangerous force on Earth-superpower. Some superheores have to be watched. Some have to be controlled. And some of them-sometimes-need to be taken out of the picture That’s when you call in THE BOYS

Since Sharon Tal Yguado took over as head of scripted series for Amazon Studios, the streaming service has been aiming to up its genre programming slate and direct-to-series orders. To that end, creators behind such hits as The Walking Dead (Robert Kirkman) and Stranger Things (Justin Doble) have been signed to exclusive contracts to create original content for Amazon. From a series standpoint, Amazon is also pursuing a Lord of the Rings adaptation and has put a number of genre dramas into development; including Lazarus, Snow Crash and Ringworld.

“In a landscape saturated with superhero shows, The Boys is the next evolution in this popular genre. With Eric, Evan, Seth and Original Film all behind this series, we are excited to adapt this popular comic, from the visionary minds of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, for television.”

– Sharon Tal Yguado, Head of Scripted Series, Amazon Studios

boys series amazon

Set to begin filming in 2018 for a 2019 release, The Boys will be executive produced by showrunner Kripke, Goldberg, Rogen, Moritz, Ori Marmur, Pavun Shetty and Point Grey Pictures’ James Weaver.

‘Step Brothers 2’ Plot Revealed by Will Ferrell

by Chris Evangelista

Step Brothers 2 plot synopsis

Because we can’t have nice things, we’ve been given a Daddy’s Home sequel, but Step Brothers 2 is nowhere to be found. While we may someday be blessed with a Step Brothers sequel, the follow-up to the 2008 cult hit comedy is currently little more than an unrealized dream. To rub salt in the wound, Step Brothers co-star Will Ferrell recently revealed the potential Step Brothers 2 would have been about.

While the anticipation for a possible sequel to the Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly comedy Step Brothers has continued to be high, Step Brothers 2 has yet to materialize. Director Adam McKay originally planned to make it, but the project got put on hold to make Anchorman 2 instead. That’s doubly disappointing since Anchorman 2 turned out to be such a mess. Here’s what McKay had to say back in 2012:

“We were literally going to go do Step Brothers 2. Paramount wouldn’t make Anchorman 2, we had tried a couple of times, I talked with [Will] Ferrell, he wanted to do Step Brothers 2. We love that movie Step Brothers, it’s one of the funnest ones we’ve ever done, and one of the craziest we’ve ever done. And we’re like, ‘Yeah, let’s go do it,.’ But everyone kept saying to us Anchorman 2, Anchorman 2 and I’m like, ‘Look, before we go do [Step Brothers 2] let’s just make sure we try everything.’ Literally our managers and agents were like, ‘It’s a waste of time, they’re not going to do it.’ I’m like, ‘Just check one more time so I know it’s 100% .’ And it so happened they had a movie fall out, and they went back and they were like, ‘Yes, we’ll do it.’ And we were completely blindsided. We had no idea they were going to say that. But it was a good problem to have.”

The original Step Brothers featured Ferrell and Reilly as two adult men who become step brothers when their parents marry. At first, the relationship between Ferrell and Reilly is hostile, but it blossoms into something more over the course of the film. Many laugh-out-loud funny moments and the fucking Catalina Wine Mixer follow.

Ferrell is currently out promoting Daddy’s Home 2 and the actor took time to reveal the original unused pitch for Step Brothers 2 (via The New York Daily News):

“We talked about ‘Step Brothers,’ and then Adam and I got sidetracked with other things…We had a whole story where John and I follow our parents to live in a retirement community and try to convince them that we earned the right to retire as well.”

That sounds pretty hilarious already, but since this is a world of disappointments, we get Daddy’s Home 2 instead. Ferrell went on to talk a bit more about sequels in general:

“The sequel thing is so funny because, we decided obviously to go down the road with ‘Anchorman,’ and we made what I thought was a really great sequel, really funny…The entertainment media and fans beg you, and beg you, and beg you for sequels, and then you make it and you definitely have a fraction that’s like, ‘Well, not as good as the first one.’ So I guess it’s a catch-22. It’s a nice catch-22, because people love the movies in the first place.”

In the meantime, Ferrell and Reilly will be reuniting for the comedy Holmes and Watson, which will see the duo as master detective Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Dr. Watson. Look for that in November 2018.

Disney Is In Talks To Buy Fox, Finally Getting Marvel Those Fantastic Four And X-Men Rights Back

by Jude Terror

It looks like Ike Perlmutter‘s longstanding war against Fox for owning the movie rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four may finally be coming to an end! According to a report from CNBC, 21st Century Fox has been in talks with Disney in recent weeks to sell most of itself, excluding a small portion of the company to focus on news and sports. That means that the deal, if it happens, would almost certainly include the company’s movie properties, including X-Men and Fantastic Four.

Stock for the company shot up in response to the news, leading to it being temporarily frozen.

The report says the talks are on again off again, and currently off again, so there’s no guarantee a deal will happen, but it’s nice to finally see a light at the end of the tunnel for fans of the Fantastic Four, whose book was canceled as a result of tensions with Fox and has yet to return, and the X-Men, whose prominence has been reduced since the hostilities between Perlmutter and Fox began.

And that’s not to mention the massive movie crossover that could now happen!

Of course, that assumes a deal goes through… and that Fox doesn’t end up selling to somebody else, in which case the whole war could start right back up again.

David Pumpkins Gets A Funko Pop, Because Of Course

by Jeremy Konrad

David Pumpkins. I don’t get it. At all. I saw so many people dressed as this guy on Halloween…it just isn’t funny. I maybe chuckled once at that skit. Tom Hanks is fun as this character, but the obsession with the guy is insane. He had his own Halloween special on last weekend. And it was animated! I just do not understand! Someone help me understand! I do think that the jacket is cool though.

As with everything, we are now getting a Funko Pop. It seemed inevitable since about five seconds after it was first on TV screens.

David Pumpkins Funko Pop

Enter at your own risk!
The SNL sketch 100 floors of frights is now joining Pop!

David Pumpkins, David S. Pumpkins, are we supposed to know who this is?

The scariest thing to the mind is the unknown,
have no fear we know David S. Pumpkins is joining Pop!
Shown with his pumpkin suit, and white streak in his hair.

Any questions?

I mean, it looks perfect. It will sell tons. I just do not understand. I will however support this if it means that we will get more SNL characters made into Pops. That has potential to be a huge line for them. The cheerleaders, Wayne’s World, Church Lady, Mango, there is no shortage of possibilities here. Why didn’t they also make the skeletons? I would argue that the two dancing skeletons are the best part of that whole sketch! They will probably make those as well. And Plushies, and Mystery Minis, Pint Size Heroes, pens, keychains.

They say this will be out this winter. Since for some reason they did not have it ready by Halloween, they better have it out by Christmas. How they didn’t have this out by October 31 I have no idea.

‘The Room’ is Screening Nationwide to Prepare for ‘The Disaster Artist’ – And We Have Tickets to Give Away

by Jacob Hall

the room screenings

Since first baffling audiences in 2003, The Room has solidified its place in the pantheon of bad movies – it’s the kind of disaster that makes you wonder if writer/director Tommy Wiseau is an alien who has never seen human beings interact before. Naturally, the story of how this movie got made is just as crazy as the movie itself and it’s told in A24’s excellent The Disaster Artist, which hits theaters in December.

But before that, A24 is hosting a nationwide series of The Room screenings to acquaint or re-acquaint audiences with Wiseau’s must-see disaster-piece. And we have some tickets to give away!

40 cities across the United States will play host to The Room screenings on November 9, 2017 at 7:00 P.M. local time, and /Film is delighted to offer 50 admit-two tickets for each city. So clear your schedule and go get your tickets right here – it’s first come, first served and when they’re gone, they’re gone!

One more thing: attendees at these screenings (with the exception of New York and Los Angeles) will be invited to see The Disaster Artist at a later date!

Here is a complete list of participating cities:

  • Atlanta
  • Austin
  • Baltimore
  • Boston
  • Buffalo
  • Charlotte
  • Chicago
  • Cincinnati
  • Cleveland
  • Columbus
  • Dallas
  • Denver
  • Detroit
  • Houston
  • Indianapolis
  • Kansas City
  • Las Vegas
  • Los Angeles
  • Madison
  • Memphis
  • Miami
  • Milwaukee
  • Minneapolis
  • New Orleans
  • New York
  • Omaha
  • Orlando
  • Philadephia
  • Phoenix
  • Pittsburgh
  • Portland
  • Sacramento
  • Saint Louis
  • Salt Lake City
  • San Antonio
  • San Diego
  • San Francsico
  • Seatlle
  • Tampa
  • Washington D.C

And here’s a teaser for the screening series, which also features snippets of footage from The Disaster Artist. It’s astonishing how good James Franco is as Tommy Wiseau in this movie and even more astonishing to know that he apparently directed the entire movie in-character as the oddly-accented and eccentric (to say the least) filmmaker.

When I saw The Disaster Artist at SXSW earlier this year, I was blown away by how funny, charming, deranged and downright honest it was. Since then, the film has screened several more times and won even more fans, including /Film’s own Ben Pearson. We’re very excited about this movie and can’t wait for more people to see it. And while you don’t have to see The Room to appreciate The Disaster Artist, it does set the stage quite well. It begs you to ask “How did this get made?” and then Franco’s film pops up and says, “Here you go!”

Plus, The Room needs to be seen with an audience. At home, you think you’re going crazy while you watch it. In a crowded auditorium, you can really appreciate just how insane this movie really is as you realize that everyone else is seeing the same thing you are.

The Disaster Artist opens on December 1, 2017 in limited release before going wide on December 8. Here’s the trailer:

Director Brett Ratner Accused of Sexual Harassment, Playboy Puts His Hugh Hefner Biopic on Hold [Updated]

by Ben Pearson

Duh.

Brett Ratner sexual harassment

Update: Playboy tells The Wrap that in the wake of the allegations against Ratner, Playboy Enterprises “is putting all projects with Ratner’s production company, Ratpac Entertainment, on hold.” That includes Ratner’s planned biopic of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, which was slated to star Suicide Squad‘s Jared Leto.

“We are deeply troubled to learn about the accusations against Brett Ratner. We find this kind of behavior completely unacceptable,” a spokesperson said in a statement. Our original article follows.

After spending years staying quiet in fear of losing out on potential jobs, people in Hollywood are starting to stand up and speak out about incidents that may have previously been swept under the industry’s rug. Director and producer Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men 3) has now been accused of sexual harassment or misconduct by six women, including actresses Natasha Henstridge and Olivia Munn.

Read the Brett Ratner sexual harassment accusations below, and find out how they could have a serious impact on one of Hollywood’s biggest studios.

The Accusations

The Los Angeles Times spoke to multiple women who are accusing Ratner of improper sexual behavior, and the most horrifying story comes from Species and The Whole Nine Yards actress Natasha Henstridge. She tells the paper that when she was a 19-year-old fashion model and Ratner was an up-and-coming music video director, they were hanging out with friends at Ratner’s New York apartment. She fell asleep, and when she woke up, she says they were alone and Ratner “forced her to perform oral sex.”

Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse, The Newsroom) recounted the time she visited the set of Ratner’s film After the Sunset in 2004 and was asked to drop off food in Ratner’s trailer. She walked in to drop off the food, and tried to make a quick exit when she realized he was inside the trailer (she was told he wouldn’t be there):

“He walked out … with his belly sticking out, no pants on, shrimp cocktail in one hand and he was furiously masturbating in the other. And before I literally could even figure out where to escape or where to look, he ejaculated.”

The Punisher actress Jamie Ray Newman says Ratner swapped seats to sit next to her on a flight in 2005, where he showed her nude photos of his then-girlfriend and proceeded to loudly and graphically describe sexual acts he wanted to perform on Newman.

What Lies Beneath actress Katharine Towne says Ratner was making “extreme” advances toward her at an L.A. party in 2005, and when she excused herself to go to the bathroom, he followed her in and shut the door. She gave him her phone number to get out of the situation, and Ratner’s assistant called her for the following six months to try to set up a date.

On the set of Rush Hour 2, a then-21-year-old part-time model named Eri Sasaki, who was working as an extra in a role that required her to wear a “skimpy outfit that exposed her midriff,” spoke to the Times about her encounter with the director:

While waiting for filming to begin one day, Ratner approached her, ran his index finger down her bare stomach and asked if she wanted to go into a bathroom with him. When she said no, she recalled Ratner saying, “Don’t you want to be famous?”

On that same movie set, Ratner also reportedly singled out actress Jorina King, saying he wanted to give her a speaking part:

The next day, he asked her to come to his trailer and told her he needed to see her breasts, she said. King said she rejected his request and hid in a restroom. “I figured if I could stay out of his eyesight, if I could stay away from him, he will forget about me and he will choose someone else, and that is exactly what happened,” King said, adding that she feared him — and losing the work.

Ratner’s attorney “categorically” disputes all of the women’s accounts, saying, “I have represented Mr. Ratner for two decades, and no woman has ever made a claim against him for sexual misconduct or sexual harassment. Furthermore, no woman has ever requested or received any financial settlement from my client.”

Warner Bros

The Potential Ramifications

Ratner has only directed two films in the past six years – 2014’s Hercules and 2011’s Tower Heist – but he’s become one of Hollywood’s most powerful producers. Ratner has produced or executive produced films like The Revenant, War Dogs, Black Mass, and many more. His company, RatPac Entertainment, teamed up with now-Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin‘s Dune Entertainment to form RatPac-Dune, a financing company that has a deal with Warner Bros. worth a reported $450 million. So there’s a lot more on the line here than just someone’s directing career.

Will Warner Bros. scrap their deal with RatPac-Dune in the wake of these allegations? That would mean they’d need to find financing somewhere else, at a time when people aren’t exactly chomping at the bit to throw tons of money on untested ventures (and Hollywood is nothing if not an industry full of untested ventures). I’m guessing Warner Bros. president Kevin Tsujihara is in crisis mode right now, because if the company decides to keep the deal in place, it will look like WB doesn’t care about the safety or well-being of these women. And if they cancel it, they’ll be scrambling for new investors to make up the sizable investment RatPac-Dune presented.

Aside from the human element of this story, this situation could potentially impact dozens of upcoming movies – including the studio’s prized cash cows, like DC superhero films. Aquaman has already wrapped production, but Wonder Woman 2, Godzilla vs. Kong, Shazam, Black Adam, The Flash, Cyborg, Gotham City Sirens, and even other non-superhero movies the studio has in the works, like The LEGO Movie 2 or It: Chapter 2, may be impacted.

We’ll be watching this one closely, asthis is the first time we’ve seen the potential for a company outside of The Weinstein Company to experience a significant financial impact due to allegations of sexual misconduct against a Hollywood power player. All eyes will be on Warner Bros. until they make a decision about how to move forward here, and whatever they decide will say a lot about the company’s true priorities.

Ronda Rousey Producing New Fight Series, Judo Throws WWE Questions

by Jeremy Konrad

Ronda Rousey took the combat sports world by storm with her exciting finishes and strong personality. Her mystique has taken some hits as of late. In her last two fights, she lost her UFC Women’s Bantamweight title to Holly Holm, being dominated for the first time ever inside the cage. After a year off, she came back to fight Amanda Nunes and got run through again. While her return to the UFC is forever in doubt at this point, she is not entirely stepping away from the combat sports.

Why We Fight Trailer produced by Ronda Rousey

She is a producer on the series Why We Fight on go90. Here is the trailer:

An immersive, gritty docu-series that dives into the worlds of fighters across the globe, joining them as they train and prepare for the fights in which the stakes are high, and the dangers are real. The show follows fighter Zac Wohlman as he travels around the world seeking answers to not only some of his own struggles and demons, but to the question: “Why do we fight?” Wohlman meets fellow fighters to hear their own reasons for why they do what they do.

Looks pretty interesting. I am all about this kind of thing. The psychology of fighters and why they do what they do is always an interesting subject. What I am more interested in is what Ronda will do next in front of cameras. Her fight career is likely over. The holes in her game, while never that hard to find, have gaping now. Her intimidation factor and invincibility are now gone. She is not going to come back and work her way up to a title shot either. No, I see something else in her future.

She keeps dodging the questions, but I think the rumors of her being in a match at Wrestlemania in New Orleans next year are more than just rumors. One of her best friends, and Four Horsewoman member Shayna Baszler just participated in the Mae Young Classic on the WWE Network and was immediately signed to a deal. Rumors have run rampant that Rousey will join her in a huge match at Mania in April. She could stick around after that I think. Ronda has appeared before at events and at Mania 31. WWE still has success with Brock Lensar and his UFC ties, damaged as they are. Hopefully she can find peace after the trainwreck her fighting career seems to have finished on.

Gwyneth Paltrow Wins Halloween With Seven Inspired Costume

by Jeremy Konrad
Corey

Nice.

Gwyneth Paltrow was in the film Seven. In said film, her and her fellow cast members, including Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Spacey give amazing performances. Director David Fincher crafted a masterpiece. And the phrase “What’s in the box?????”” became part of the lexicon. I don’t think I have gone a single week in my adult life without someone saying that.

SPOILERS I GUESS.

In the film, at the end, Spacey’s villain murders paltrow’s character and has her head delivered to Pitts’ character. Who is her husband. In a field. This is really being simple with it, but it is one of the best swerves in film history. Heart-breaking and unforgettable.

So, when she posted a pic of her Halloween costume on Instagram today, the internet had a collective freakout:
