Film: Great Job, Internet!: Use the Benedict Cumberbatch Name Generator to become Bandicoot Cheddarcheese

by Caroline Siede

Cumberbitches rejoice, for the Benedict Cumberbatch Name Generator is here. Fans of the charming British thespian who are too lazy to open up a dictionary and put together two funny sounding words now have a website that will do it for them. Each click creates a new humorously multisyllabic name like Billiardball Commonwealth, Blasphemy Crimpysnitch, and Syphilis Cankersore.

In addition to his charity work with The Prince’s Trust and Dramatic Need, Cumberbatch is a trained Shakespearean actor who studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, won an Olivier Award for his onstage performance in Frankenstein, and is currently playing one of the most famous characters in the British literary canon. He also he has a funny name and sometimes looks like an otter.

Comedy: Newswire: Aziz Ansari's next comedy special will debut on Netflix, where you don't have to give him $3 million

by Sean O'Neal

If the recent news that Aziz Ansari had sold a book proposal for somewhere north of $3 million led you to believe that, from now on, hearing Ansari’s observations would run you several million dollars, don’t worry, poor, probably dirty person who apparently doesn’t have millions to spend on comedy. Ansari’s next special, Buried Alive, will debut Nov. 1 exclusively on Netflix—where, if you’re paying several million dollars to subscribe to it, you should definitely look into changing your plan. Securing rights to Ansari’s special is all part of Netflix’s recently announced expansion into more original comedy and documentary programming, which the New York Times reports will also include upcoming shows from Marc Maron and Kathleen Madigan. And it’s part of Ansari’s continued love affair with Netflix, where his previous specials appear and, according to him, “are recommended to him ...

Watch Green Day Play All Of Dookie In London

by Stereogum

After the rock-opera bloat, the Broadway sojourn, the public tantrum and rehab stint, and the general public indifference to the three-albums-in-one-year stunt, it’s probably not a bad idea for the former scabby punks in Green Day to remind people of why they liked the band in the first place. At a show at London’s Brixton Academy two nights ago, the three guys in the band (who, notably, did not appear to be rocking eyeliner) played Dookie, their 1994 breakout album, front-to-back. Before the onslaught started, Billy Joe Armstrong noted that the album turns 20 next year, so who knows, maybe they’re planning a tour like this. Or maybe it was just a glorious one-off. Either way, a fan filmed the entire thing an uploaded it to YouTube, and you can watch it below.

Adam Carolla Will Host A Spike TV Show That Calls Out Shody Contractors

by Penn Collins
Corey

This I would actually watch.

There might not be a TV personality more apt for Spike TV than Adam Carolla, and there might not be a subject matter more apt for the cable station than addressing crooked contractors in To Catch a Predator fashion.

So it should be of little surprise that the channel is marrying the two into a show called Catch a Contractor, in which crooked or shoddy contractors are called out for their work on TV. Though the cause is somewhat noble, this doesn’t sound like very compelling television, on par with the show that follows people around giving parking tickets in Philly.

This sounds like more a labor of love for Carolla, who has an interest in home improvement, and is likely carrying the scorn towards an unscrupulous contractor with him. In short, this sounds like a show we would only watch in marathon format if we were hungover and couldn’t find the remote.

Which is to say, it’s a perfect fit for Spike TV.

Universal Studios (Orlando) Adds A Duff Beer Garden And Lard Lad Donuts To Its Roster Of ‘Simpsons’ Eateries

by Penn Collins

In case Luigi’s Pizza, Krusty Burger, and Moe’s Tavern aren’t enough to satisfy your whimsical, fictional tastes while trolling around with the masses in Orlando, you can now open your refined palate to donuts and beer.

Like a Rockefeller.

The collection of eateries/drinkeries is known as Simpson Fast Food Boulevard, and it’s a place I’m dying to see, and would undoubtedly be a place I would be dying to leave after about four minutes.

Take a look!

FX Will Launch FXX For All Your FX Comedy Needs On September 2nd

by Penn Collins
Corey

FYI: the site to check what channel is pretty sweet. It is 797 for Optimum people.

If you like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League, Archer, and the like…PAY ATTENTION. You may have heard that FX is spinning off some of its younger-oriented programming to the new FXX. The day of reckoning comes on September 2nd, and your life will never be the same.

Ok. It will probably be the same, but FX is thinking this new channel change up could make things a tiny bit better. Go to Get FXX to figure out what channel FXX will be on in your area, with your cable provider. Do it now, because not only will the premieres of Sunny and The League hit like an atom bomb on September 4th, but you’ll get treated to a huge Parks and Recreation marathon the moment the channel comes on the air.

What’s not to like?

Film: Great Job, Internet!: Read This: Wired compiled a roundup of the running gags and Easter eggs in the Cornetto Trilogy

by Kevin McFarland

The three films of the Cornetto Trilogy are grouped together by the trio of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost, but nothing overt in the way of characters or plot. They’re mostly discrete entries, but since Wright and Pegg are genre obsessives, they did place a bunch of running gags and personal references within the series. Wired put together a list of the intricacies within Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End, from the origin of the Winchester pub and the obsession with twins being evil to the theory that the films are nesting dolls in the same fictional universe. It’s not an exhaustive list—it does leave out the fence-jumping failure that runs through all three films—but it’s a good start on the little ties that bind the trilogy together other than ice cream treats.

Music: Great Job, Internet!: Eminem goes "Berzerk," raps over Beastie Boys and Billy Squier samples on new single

by Marah Eakin

Eminem dropped the first single from his new album last night, and it’s an intense and frantic tribute to ‘80s rap. “Berzerk” was produced by Rick Rubin, and samples everything from the Beastie Boys to Billy Squier. The lyrics are typical Marshall Mathers, with the rapper taking digs at low hanging “celebrity” fruit like Kevin Federline and Khloe Kardashian.

“Berzerk” is the first single from The Marshall Mathers LP 2, due out Nov. 5.

Music: Great Job, Internet!: Behold! Steve Martin and Kermit The Frog perform "Dueling Banjos"

by Kayla Reed

Funny Or Die has managed to fulfill a childhood desire many readers didn't know they even had. The site recently posted a video of Steve Martin and Kermit The Frog performing "Dueling Banjos," and it's both impressive and adorable. It also makes sense, seeing as each performer has a masterful understanding of the instrument. According to Vulture, the video is to promote Comic Genius: Portraits of Funny People, an upcoming book by Matt Hoyle. There will also be more videos to look out for in the wake of promotion from Tina Fey, Robin Williams, Chevy Chase, Cloris Leachman, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Jason Bateman, Eric Stonestreet, Jane Lynch, Patton Oswalt, and Neil Patrick Harris.

TV: Great Job, Internet!: Donald Glover got hit in the crotch repeatedly by Gillian Jacobs, and there's video

by Marah Eakin

With Donald Glover set to appear in just five episodes of Community this season, it seems only right that the rest of the cast might be a little miffed at him for bailing. If the Vine Alison Brie posted yesterday is any indication, Glover could be taking the brunt of the cast’s punishment via his groin. In the clip, Glover and Gillian Jacobs play “Dick Hits,” which is basically comprised of semi-full water bottles being hurled at Glover’s crotch, all while he stands there and takes it. The clip’s only six seconds long, but includes at least one solid dick hit and one that Glover claims “hit the tip,” so it’s like the best parts of America’s Funniest Home Videos, but with all your Greendale pals.

Highest Paid DJs 2013

by Stereogum

Forbes has compiled a list of the 13 highest paid DJs of 2013. As EDM has grown more popular over the past few years, the earnings listed are unsurprisingly insanely high. It’s also unsurprisingly an all-male list. Check out the entire list below. “Our annual earnings estimates include income from live shows, endorsements, merchandise sales, recorded music sales, external business ventures and, in the case of DJ Pauly D, television,” writes Forbes in the report. “Sources include Songkick, Pollstar, RIAA, promoters, managers, lawyers and some of the artists themselves.”

Steve Martin Takes On Kermit The Frog In 'Dueling Banjos'

by Eddie Wright

dueling-banjos

I always felt like Kermit the Frog and Steve Martin were cut from the same cloth (felt?) and this video of the duo recreating the famous "Dueling Banjos" scene from "Deliverance" is a perfect example of that.

This is completely wonderful, until the last few seconds when Kermit unleashes that snotty attitude. Kermit is never bratty, never nasty, never mean. The Kermit I know would love the competition and he would congratulate and celebrate a successful match with his fellow banjo-plucking pal. He wouldn't snidely take a shot at Steve. Never.

Shame on you, fake Kermit. Shame on you.

Short Film: ‘Villainous’ Is the Superhero Short We Deserve

by Kate Erbland

Villainous

Why Watch? If you’ve got a hankering for a new (and decidely more dark) spin on the Toy Story-pioneered ”toys come to life!” genre and you’re in need of a sweet little slice of superheroics, Paul Constantakis‘ Villainous is the short film you’ve been waiting for. In a minimum amount of time, Costantakis lays out some very funny and very pointed visuals, all thanks to some of cinema’s worst villains…well, in toy form, at least. It seems as if someone is taking out the worst baddies of your classic childhood bedroom, and doing it with flash and flair. But who?

Take a look, and just wait for that heroic reveal.

What Will It Cost? About 3 minutes.

Music: Newswire: The guy who created "Harlem Shake" says he made no money from it

by Kayla Reed

When Brooklyn producer Baauer created "Harlem Shake," he obviously didn't expect it to blow up like it did. The 24-year-old, whose real name is Harry Rodrigues, recently did an interview with Pitchfork in which he detailed the song's creation, explosion in popularity, and ultimately, its lack of profitability.

The song's beginnings are nothing special; Rodrigues simply emailed it to anyone relevant he could find. But once it went mega-viral and hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts (after Billboard started counting YouTube views), things started to shift. Rodrigues said there was one moment when it really hit him, recalling his reaction with the eloquence one would expect from a twentysomething:

"When they did a video on Jimmy Fallon, I was like, "Whoa." That was right at the tipping point. That’s when it changed from “Wow!” to “Uh-oh, what’s going on here?” From there, it became ...
