He's an incredible scientist when he's drunk. Otherwise he's a simpleton.

You just might be able to convince a friend/prank victim of this if you repeat the process a few times.

"We Own The Future" Shepard Fairey Mural Appears in Manhattan

by RemyCarreiro

Image Via

It has been amazing to witness the leaps and bounds street art has come over the course of the last 20 years. What started as something that was shunned and misunderstood has completely evolved into a respetable and appreciated art style (by most), with more and more street artists reachng superstar status. One of those street artists is Shepard Fairey, who most know best from his Obama, two-toned HOPE poster, though he has been doing this for most of his life.

A recent new piece sprung up on the Lower East Side of Manhatten that was created by Shep. It bodly states: We Own The Future, and seems to harken back to his OBEY days (old schoolers will understand that his Obey pieces are what initially made him known).

In my opinion, all that does is make the city more beautiful. It adds splashes of color and ecourages free thought. What is better than that?

Kids Who Totally Stole The Show On Picture Day

by Zeon Santos

Most kids don’t look forward to school picture days, the pictures are taken for their parent’s sake after all, but those wonderful kids who look forward to the experience are destined to grow up to be superstars:

(Image Via DailyDawdle)

They have the look, the attitude, and after these photo sessions their respective schools decided to shut down picture day, because they knew it would get no better than this:

(Image Via Awkward Family Photos)

However, not all kid pics are taken at school, parents love to take their kids in to the studio for some really special photo sessions:

(Image Via Last Laugh Group)

After all, karate masters and roller dancing superstars aren't allowed to do their thing on school grounds, and when parents let their superstar kids shine after school the photographic memories are priceless!:

Cigarette Pack Life Hacks From 100 Years Ago That Still Work Today

by Zeon Santos

Life hacks have always been around, but before the internet they were called tips, tricks, or helpful hints.

There’s a common misconception that people are just now coming up with a lot of these helpful hacks, like this simple method for removing splinters:

"Fill a wide mouthed bottle with hot water nearly to the brim, and press affected part of hand tightly against mouth of bottle. The suction will pull down the flesh, and steam will soon draw out the splinter."

Simple, ain't it? This tip came from a card included with a pack of Gallaher's Cigarettes around the turn of the 20th century, so if you've ever wondered where people posting hacks online came up with the idea it might have been from a hundred year old pack of smokes:

The life hacks presented on these cigarette cards were generally split into two categories- outdoor survival and household hints. The household hints are still pretty helpful, like this recipe for a homemade fire extinguisher:

"Dissolve one pound of salt and half a pound of sal-ammoniac in two quarts of water and bottle the liquor in thin glass bottles holding about a quart each. Should a fire break out, dash one or more of the bottles into the flames, and any serious outbreak will probably be averted."

However, the survival set will probably only come in handy if you're an avid outdoorsperson, or you're trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world:

Redditor Ryno3639 posted a gallery full of these great Cigarette Card Life Hacks From 1900 to 1910 on Imgur, full of many tips which are just as useful today as they were over 100 years ago.

And Finally…The Comics Being Sold To Pay For Breast Enhancement Surgery

by Rich Johnston

Okay, how much this creeps you out will depend upon your mileage. But one eBay comic book seller writes in his item descriptions,

Massive Comic Book Selloff!

Help me pay for my wife’s implants…

Yep! My wife has asked me to fund her boob job, and the only way I can think of is to sell off all my comic books.

I have a huge amount, ranging from some Golden Age, through Silver Age keys, Bronze Age, and beyond.

Some items will be sold as singles, some as sets.

All proceeds will be going towards my wife’s surgery. $100 is approximately equal to 1cm of extra flesh, so please bid generously!

He gives you a FAQ in case you wanted to know.

Q: Is this for real?
A: Yes. She honestly has asked me to fund implants. I didn’t put up too much of a fight to be honest :)

Q: Can I see your wife’s current boobs?
A: She’s a bit shy about this and so far has refused permission, but I will do my best to talk her round.

Q: How much is the operation costing?
A: Around $7.5K. I did try to encourage medical arbitrage, sending her to Brazil, but she’s nervous, so it has to be Montreal.

Q: Will you send me a pic of the results?
A: ALL WINNING BIDDERS WILL GET A CANDID PHOTO OF THE OUTCOME — this is optional…

At least there’s an honesty here. Considering how many superhero comic books have existed to show idealised fantasies of women in poses designed to show off their bodies with a thin veneer of storytelling to justify the whole exercise – well, for once, there’s no pretence here.

Using a gif based on this image as well:

You can browse the comics on sale, here. Then… wash your hands.

HBO to Air New Banksy Documentary ‘Banksy Does New York’

by Germain Lussier

Banksy documentary

Last year, the city of New York went nuts with Banksy fever. The famous, anonymous, Oscar-nominated British artist claimed residence in the city and put up a new piece of art every single day. It became a cultural phenomenon with people rushing all over the city to see the art and react. Some locals stole art, other defaced it and some even charged to view it. The whole thing became an incredibly interesting commentary on art as well as humanity.

Though Banksy himself did release a short film about the entire experience, now HBO is going to air a film of their own. Filmmaker Chris Moukarbel has crowd-sourced footage from people who saw the art first hand and made a documentary about it called Banksy Does New York. It’ll air on November 17. Read more about the Banksy HBO documentary below.

News of the Banksy HBO documentary showed up on The Hollywood Reporter. If you want to look at an official retrospective, here’s the Instagram account. Here’s what the president of HBO documentaries, Shelia Nevens, said about the film:

From the moment Banksy took over the streets, New Yorkers became obsessed. The film captures this month of madness created by user-gererated footage.

For a hint of what to expect, check out this recap of the event that was potentially posted, but at least endorsed, by Banksy. This is an unrelated film on the same topic.

Each piece that Banksy put up over the month had different messages, many of which were exposed by the public’s reaction to the message. For example, the balloon pictured at the top (courtesy of Melrose and Fairfax) got a bunch of people arrested when they tried to steal it. Another painting got covered up by locals and they charged people $20 to see it. But my favorite, by far, is this video. Banksy set up a stand in Central Park selling 100% authentic paintings, each valued around six figures. However, there was no fan fare. The art just had to stand on its own. Here’s the result.

Watch more videos from the exhibit here on the official YouTube.

I can’t wait to see how the HBO Banksy documentary spins this momentous event. Will you be watching?

Deflate Pool Toys Faster with a Drinking Straw

Deflate Pool Toys Faster with a Drinking Straw

Inflatable pool toys are a pain to fill up, but they're an even bigger annoyance when you need to let the air out. Instead of pinching the air valve until your fingers fall off, you can stick a straw in there and deflate them with ease.

Amazon.com Customer Has Hilarious Conversation with Representative

by John Farrier

Redditor UranusExplorer needed a book for his students. He ordered it through Amazon. Although Amazon gave an online notification showing that it was delivered, UranusExplorer had not received it. So he logged into Amazon's help chat.

The customer service representative who answered was none other than Thor, the Norse god of thunder and strength. This was fortuitous, for it turned out that UranusExplorer was his father, Odin. They conducted an in-character conversation about this failed delivery of the sacred book. You can read a larger version here.

17 of the Funniest Deaths From the Final Destination Series, In Gifs

by Jared Jones
Corey

I love this so much.

By Jared Jones

According to BloodyDisgusting.com, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures are tentatively planning to move ahead with another chapter in the indestructible Final Destination series. Hooray for all you Rube Goldberg porn aficionados!

Sources close to BD have stated that a story “needs to be nailed down” before Final Destination 6 moves forward with production, which is hilarious, because it acts as if the five previous installments of the franchise told more of a “story” than the screenplay equivalent of  horror movie Mad Libs (Wendy tries to save _____ but he is ____ by a ____!). Still, when you’re averaging over a $100 million return per film, who can blame you for mindlessly crapping out a new one every few years? Not since the Pet Rock has so little creative effort yielded such lucrative results!

But the appeal of the Final Destination films cannot be found in their carbon-copied plots, nor can it be found in their brunette, Gap-Fall-collection protagonists. Simply put, it’s all about the kills. It’s simple: Gather a bunch of unlikeable teens together in your typical serial killer plot, switch out the serial killer for Death itself, and see how many intricate ways you can kill off said unlikeable teens. While the franchise’s understanding of things like physics and human anatomy are shaky at best the victims bodies are often treated like boneless sacks of blood and meat, basically — the results so far have been nothing short of hilarious, so join us as we look back at some of the series’ finest moments.

Ricky Gervais Calls His Upcoming David Brent Movie “Almost a Musical”

by Germain Lussier

david brent movie

Ricky Gervais has revealed some new details on his Office spinoff movie, Life on the Road, and it’ll be music to the ears of fans.

Life on the Road is a mock-documentary that’ll revolve around David Brent, the character Gervais played on The Office. It’ll catch up with the former office manager a few years after the show’s conclusion as Brent continues his quest to become a rock star. That much we already knew.

Last week, the comedian/writer/director was on Sirius XM’s Opie and Jim Norton show and described the film as “almost a musical.” He’s currently writing songs and the script for the film with the hopes to have it in theaters in the next 18 months to two years. Read more about the David Brent movie below.

Here’s what Gervais said about the David Brent movie, Life on the Road, on the Opie and Jim Norton (formerly Opie and Anthony) show:

Yeah I’m gonna do it. It’s really different. It’s another fake documentary about what he’s doing now and what he’s doing now is sort of repping. But he hasn’t let go of this dream of being a rock star and he’s got a lot of songs together and he’s got a young band together that he’s paying through the nose for and they’re just sort of ripping him off. They’re sort of session musicians so he’s losing money. He has to cash in a pension, he does a little tour he wants the record companies to come along too. Obviously he thinks it’s like Scorsese following the Rolling Stones around, this documentary team, but it’s really sort of a Where Are They Now documentary and it’s even sadder and tragic….I’m trying to do like Anvil did for real. It was sort of sweet and tragic….He’s doing songs, it’s almost a musical, really.

Gervais then hinted it would mostly take place in England by joking “Life on the Road 2″ would see Brent in America. Next he was then asked for a timeline:

I’m writing it now, I’ll probably film it…it’ll be next year, now. We’re talking 18 months to two years again.

Finally, he was asked about the release plan:

It’s got cult movie written all over it but it’ll have a theatrical release around the world because The Office, the original one, played in about 100 countries. So it can certainly have a theatrical release around the world. But were not talking “blockbuster.” We’re probably talking an under 10 million dollar movie. I’m not making a Hobbit movie here.

As a die hard fan of The Office, the initial news of this film was incredibly exciting. These further details, that this is a faux-rockumentary with Brent at the center, is almost too good to be true. Surely we’ll hear more about it next year once production begins and hopefully some of the original Office cast members appear as well.

What do you think about this update on the David Brent movie?

The 50 Greatest Summer Blockbusters

by Miss Cellania
Corey

If you have a minute to read the top 10 they are great.

In June 29, 1975, the way movies were presented changed forever.  Before that, films were released in just a few theaters at a time, and toured the country for months if they were any good. Wide-release movies existed before that, but they were considered a quick cash grab for movies that weren’t very good. Then came Jaws, by 29-year-old Steven Spielberg, opening in 464 theaters because the hype that preceded it caused great demand among moviegoers. Since then, the summer blockbuster is expected, and studios plan around it, hoping to bring us another Raiders of the Lost Ark or Jurassic Park.

The Dissolve collected 655 movies from the past 40 years that were released in the U.S. between May first and August first, and whittled them down to the top 50, presented in three posts. Each gets a summary and a critique, and together they make a great playlist that you can watch at home, introduce your kids to, and reminisce about the first time you saw them.

Part one: Numbers 50-31.

Part two: Numbers 30-11.

Part three: The Top Ten.

This Power Rangers Zordon Cosplay Is Brilliant

This ingenious cosplayer, whose name remains unknown to me at this point, is dressed as Zordon of Eltar, the enigmatic (and racist) mentor of the Power Rangers from the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I'm curious about what he can do with those electrical components.

Sir Richard Attenborough passed away this weekend at the age of 90, but his cinematic legacy will live on. The Most Expensive Movie Props Ever Sold

by Zeon Santos

Movie props demand big bucks at auction, especially if they’re iconic props from equally iconic films, and those who choose to collect movie memorabilia and props are used to paying a hefty price for each piece.

Because of the cost of collecting, and storing or displaying, movie props they're put up for auction from private sellers all the time, and some really amazing stuff inevitably makes its way onto Ebay.

Joe MacFarland from Ebay Stories shared an infographic that reveals the most expensive movie props ever sold, many of which were featured on Ebay.

It's no surprise that props like Dorothy's Ruby Slippers, Marilyn Monroe's dress from The Seven Year Itch and the Delorean from Back To The Future have sold for a more than modest sum, but I was surprised to see Wilson the volleyball from Castaway sold for forty grand!

Anybody got a volleyball and some paint?!

Listen: Childish Gambino – “Candler Road”

by Genevieve Oliver

It’s been a while since we heard new music from Childish Gambino, but he’s back with a seemingly unattached new track called “Candler Road.” It’s a cool listen, with a bumping bass backbeat, plenty of smart, charged braggadocio, and a hilarious interlude with Donald Glover trying to figure out a sensually sung hook. Stay tuned – we’re psyched to see if this track’s attached to an upcoming record. Check it out.
