Touch or Tickle Your Beloved Even When You’re Far Away with Bond

by Hazel Chua

Now you can caress and even tickle your significant other, even when you’re far away, with Bond. It’s basically a wearable system that lets you reach out and “touch” people from far away.

bond remote touch gadget 620x364magnify

The Bond device works with an iOS or Android device via Bluetooth to deliver the virtual caresses. It’s pretty versatile too, as the sensor can be worn as either a bracelet or a pendant.

Once activated, users can “touch” and tickle others remotely anywhere in the world where there’s cell service coverage.

If you touch it for 1 second, your friend will get a one second tickle. Tickles can be up to five seconds long and any colour of the rainbow – the colour just depends on how long you touch it for. Swipe BOND and you will send a rainbow tickle.

Bond is currently up for funding on Indiegogo through December 3rd, where a minimum pledge of $170(USD) will get you a pair – with one for you to keep and one for you to give away to your significant other.

StrangeLove Organic Energy Drink

by Diane Lindquist

11 26 13 StrangeLove 1

Marx Design was asked to create a promotional gift pack for StrangeLove, a new organic energy elixir. The brief was to create something strange yet lovely, in the hope that bar and café owners would display it at point-of-sale.

Moving away from traditional energy drink marketing (think starbursts and garish colours), StrangeLove adopted the approach that:

“Most energy drinks make you look like you’ve been kissing your cousin under the bleachers at the Parramatta Speedway. They scream premium but relentlessly hum Bon Jovi songs under their breath. Our packaging philosophy is simple – make something that people want to show their friends."

"Buoyed by this fresh approach, we wanted the design to feel eclectic and intriguing, like something you would find in an old encyclopedia or Ripley’s Believe It or Not. The design is a combination of strange and love – when the two subjects are brought together visually the design reflects this.

The imagery and illustration is quite dark and the copywriting is very funny. The whole design is a series of contrasting opposites, for example, a harsh nearly gothic typeface and then a friendly sans serif; an accident skull and a beautiful French actress.

The StrangeLove gift pack consisted of one bottle of StrangeLove ginger beer, one bottle opener complete with love heart and rat, metal straws, a cocktail straw, promotional cards about the product and a deck of illustrated playing cards illustrated by Colombian collage artist Randy Mora. The result is indeed strange but lovely. "

Bitcoin Is A Few Bucks Away From Gold

by Rob Wile

The price of Bitcoin is now within a stone's throw of the price of gold.

The digital currency already set a record earlier today on the Mt. Gox exchange, touching $1,242 (it's since come back down to $1,162).

Meanwhile, gold is at $1,250 an ounce.

At this point, the unending surge in Bitcoin prices appears to be riding a wave of speculative momentum. The price of a March Bitcoin future on Swedish-based ICBIT.se (though on admittedly thin volume) is more than $1,700.

Here's a helpful chart, from Bespoke Investment Group:

Bitcoin vs Gold

We'll update this as soon as the cross actually occurs.

Experimental 3D scanner creates clear images with almost no light

by Steve Dent

We've seen seen single-pixel cameras, and now MIT researchers have figured out how to create clear images of dimly-lit objects using single photons -- in 3D, no less. The technique doesn't involve any fancy new hardware, either, as the team worked with a standard photon detector that fired low-intensity visible laser light pulses at subjects. The magic happens from the algorithms they developed, which can pick out variations in the time it takes for individual photons to echo back. After that software separated the noise (as shown above) the result was a high-res image created with about a million photons that would have required several hundred trillion with, say, a smartphone camera. That'll open up new possibilities for low-energy surveying, for instance, or even spy cameras that could virtually see in the dark -- because no laser research project is complete with a sinister-sounding military application.

Guy Accidentally Tosses Hard Drive With $7.5 Million In Bitcoin

by Nicole Wakelin

trash_Upload

Here’s your friendly remind to always, always, always backup your hard drive. British IT professional James Howells mined 7,500 Bitcoin back in 2009 then completely forgot about the stuff. He later threw away the hard drive where he had it all stored sometime last summer. That Bitcoin is now worth about $7.5 million and is sitting somewhere in a landfill the size of a soccer field buried under about 4 feet of trash. Howells is taking it all in stride saying,

“I’m at the point where it’s either laugh about it or cry about it. Why aren’t I out there with a shovel now? I think I’m just resigned to never being able to find it.”

He did create a new Bitcoin wallet asking for help in staging a possible recovery effort and tweeted it out for those looking to help.

@alexhern if anyone wants to donate to my Bitcoin recovery fund… 15JHTg6g4zokAM23vJVcL8DbAAjA4BhsLH – not that I'm expecting anything :)

— James Howells (@howelzy) November 27, 2013

Don’t let this happen to you. Backup that hard drive, people!
