Hoping to counter Verizon's new slightly more flexible cable bundles, Cablevision has unveiled a promotion of its own intended to appeal to would-be cord cutters. According to the Cablevision announcement, the company is now offering users a "cord cutting package" that includes 50 Mbps broadband service, a free $70 Mohu Leaf 50 indoor HDTV antenna, and access to Cablevision's Wi-Fi hotspot network for $50 a month (plus a $5 modem rental fee).
It's the first time I can remember that a cable operator has actually urged customers to get TV from other than traditional cable (outside of when companies handed out antennas during retrans fights).
Cablevision also announced it's offering users a second, "Every Day Low Price" package that includes 5 Mbps broadband, access to Cablevision's new Freewheel Wi-Fi calling service, the same free antenna and access to Cablevision's network of hotspots for $35 a month (plus $5 modem rental fee).
Cablevision's Freewheel Wi-Fi calling service gives free unlimited calling and text for $10 a month extra if you're an Optimum Online customer, or $30 a month if you're not. It requires the purchase of a Motorola Moto G Smartphone for $99, and it should be noted that there's no cellular backup for the service.
Users can tack on HBO Go for another $15 a month to either package, as Cablevision's one of only two companies selling the service during a three month Apple iOS device exclusive with HBO.

Ever wished you could see what it's like to spend a day in the life of a plastic surgeon — all gory details included?
Well ... maybe not.
But a Miami doctor is betting that curiosity will get the better of us as he streams his practice's nips and tucks live on Snapchat.
Dr. Michael Salzhauer joined the ephemeral messaging app under the username therealdrmiami. He's already a "social media freak," according to Vice, and he's active on Twitter and Instagram (but the photos are graphic, so click at your own risk).
He is apparently best known for his Brazilian butt lifts, or BBLs.
Here's a before and after photo of one of his surgeries:
The doctor not only uses social media to build his following, but also to keep his workday upbeat.
"This is the most fun I've had since medical school," he told Vice, referring to the media he's constantly sending out during his 12-hour workdays. "[T]he social media allows me to express my creativity, to reach out to patients, to connect to them on a human level, and not so much the buttoned-up, white-coat, I'm the doctor sort of thing."
The Internet is also the perfect place for the doctor to advertise his patients' before-and-after photos free of charge (although many are NSFW).
Now that he's on Snapchat, he is apparently offering up his "operative menu" on Instagram each day to crowdsource which operations he should broadcast on the app.
His Snapchat story is "basically" his whole day, he told Vice. "You see me walk into work, you see me talking to the staff, you see me — if the patients allow, and only about half of them allow it — doing the operation."
And he isn't lying. His Snapchat story today was more than 1300 seconds long, or about 22 minutes. He starts the day with a Dubsmash video of him lip-synching to "Trap Queen."

He and his assistants then complete a few dozen Happy Birthday shoutouts to the doctor's 100,000+ social media followers. He stops by his teenage daughter's bedroom and she announces on video that today is "fat booty Friday."
Later, Dr. Salzhauer completes a Brazilian butt lift that, according to him, is "the equivalent of a triple Lindy when it comes to difficulty," referring to a Rodney Dangerfield stunt from the movie "Back to School."

As he progresses through the surgery while listening to hip hop, Dr. Salzhauer tells a long story about issues his family has been having with pest control, stemming from their pet tortoise.
Later, while removing the skin around a woman's areola, he and his assistants discuss which of them can complete a Rubik's cube challenge. The small talk juxtaposed with the intense surgery makes cosmetic procedures seem surprisingly mundane.
On Instagram, the doctor recently hosted a meme contest for his followers.
And he's even in on the inspirational quote game.

Since KickassTorrents (KAT) became the most visited torrent site on the Internet, various anti-piracy groups have been keeping a close eye on the site’s movements.
So when the KAT team announced a move to the new KickassTorrents.im domain yesterday, it’s likely that several copyright holders sprang into action.
The new domain belongs to the Isle of Man authorities and wasn’t an ideal choice for the torrent site since the local registry employs a “zero tolerance” policy towards copyright infringement.
Just a few hours after the switch the domain was taken down, forcing the KAT team to prepare a new move, this time to the Costa Rican .cr TLD.
“We have been seized by the Isle of Man domain registry. The new domain will be Kat.cr,” KAT admin Mr. Pink informs TF, adding that the new kat.cr domain is expected to go live soon.
It’s unclear if any copyright holder group or groups filed an official dispute, but the IM Registry confirms that the site violates its terms.
“The domain was in breach of the .im rules and has accordingly been revoked. I cannot correspond any further in relation to this domain name,” an IM registry spokesperson tells TF.
The KAT team wasn’t completely unprepared and has several domain names in reserve just in case. And so the Whac-a-Mole continues for now, until the site docks in a safe haven.
While the Isle of Man registry was quick to take action, others including the Icelandic .IS and the Swedish .SE registry will not revoke any domain names without a court order.
TF reached out to the .CR registry to find out what their policies are regarding domain name revocations, but at the time of publication we were yet to receive a response (update: response added below).
Update: Kat.cr is now up and running.
Update: The .CR registry informs us that they do not screen the content of websites proactively. “NIC Costa Rica, like most of the registries does not regulate the content of the pages under .cr,” a spokesperson informed us.
The registry does reserve the right to revoke domain names under certain conditions, when it receives a local or international court order for example.

In addition to making the instrument peripherals for Rock Band 4, video game hardware manufacturer Mad Catz has announced it will be working with Harmonix to help publish the upcoming music-rhythm game.
"Co-publishing the game allows us to work closer than ever before with Harmonix, delivering a seamless experience from game through hardware and ensuring that we focus on the needs of the gamer first and foremost!" Mad Catz Global PR Director Alex Verrey said in a post on the company's official website.
Verrey also teased that those eager for an early look at Rock Band 4 should keep a close watch this June. "We’re excited to be working closely with Harmonix and I can promise you that as soon as you see the game for yourselves, you’ll also be excited as we are now! Roll on E3!"

Nazi Germany coveted the prosperous nation of Switzerland and made plans to invade it. But Operation Tannenbaum remained forever a hypothetical exercise and the Swiss were largely spared from the ravages of World War II.
This was in part because the Swiss made thoughtful and thorough plans to defend their nation to the death. Though the Axis powers surrounded Switzerland for almost 5 tears, a German conquest of that nation would be costly--ultimately too costly for Hitler to risk.
Some of the fortifications that the Swiss built to defend their borders include a 10 kilometer stretch of concrete anti-tank barriers near Lake Geneva. These pillars are called "Dragon's Teeth," but people have since come to refer to the remains of this defensive line as the Toblerone Line. That's because they closely resemble Toblerone, the famous Swiss chocolate candy.
