And now, a moment from Rust

by Hamza CTZ Aziz

Rust is the new game from the people behind Garry's Mod. It's in alpha right now and it's a mix of Minecraft and DayZ where you cut down trees to build sanctuaries from the crippling cold. It's currently in alpha, and like DayZ, will surely produce many moments like this one incident.

Alcatel One Touch Idol X+ announced at CES

by Richard Devine

Android Central

Octa-core processor and 1080p display the highlight features on Alcatel's latest handset

Android Central @ CES

Alcatel One Touch is leaping out of the CES gates early with the announcement of its latest Android handset, the Idol X+. With a design familiar to previous Idol devices, the headline hardware specs for the new Idol X+ are the 2 GHz octa-core processor, and the 5-inch 1080p display.

Other hardware features of note are a 13.1MP rear camera, a 2MP 1080p front facing camera, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and a 2500mAh battery. Alcatel also promises that the Idol X+ will pack some good quality, loud audio from the speakers mounted along the bottom edge of the device.

While there's plenty of decent enough stuff underneath, there's a slight disappointment that the Idol X+ comes to market running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and there's no sign of LTE. No word on specific pricing or availability at this point, though Alcatel did tell us that it will begin shipping in China in January. We've got a hands on look at the new Idol X+ coming your way, and the full press release can be found after the break.

DayZ standalone has now surpassed 800,000 sold

by Chris Carter

People have been anticipating the standalone version of DayZ for a while now, and it appears as if that excitement has paid off. Last week we reported that the game had sold upwards of 400,000 in its first week, but that number has apparently already risen to 800,000 sold, which was "completely unexpected" according to creator Dean "Rocket" Hall.

The "roadmap" for the final version is apparently going to drop in mid-January, but these sales have had a "very positive" effect on the development cycle. I can't wait to see where this game goes, as it's been one exciting ride since it was just a niche mod.

There Are Now A Million Bitcoin Wallets

by Rob Wile

There are now one million Bitcoin wallets on Blockchain.info, the principal transaction ledger for the digital currency, Coindesk's Nermin Hajdarbegovic

That number has doubled in less than three months — in November, Blockchain had just 500,000 wallets. And it started 2013 with around 100,000 users (users can possess multiple wallets).

Bitcoin prices on the Mt. Gox exchange climbed back above $1,000 this weekend, as as online gaming company Zynga announced it had begun testing accepting payments in Bitcoin. As of this morning stand at $1,025.

Ric Flair One Of Several Wrestling Greats To Return For ‘Old School RAW’

by Yek Olam

Wrestler Ric Flair

Two days removed from firing up the San Francisco 49ers before their wildcard win against Green Bay (perhaps a bit too much for Anthony Davis), wrestling legend Ric Flair is headed back to the big stage with other WWE greats when this Monday’s RAW goes Old School.

It’s unclear who will be joining the Nature Boy in this edition of “Old School” RAW(Brad Maddox let Ric Flair’s appearance slip last week), but the promo clip gives us a glimpse of Flair, Diamond Dallas Page, the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase flanked by Irwin R. Schyster (that’s old school), the Road Dogg and Billy Gunn in their New Age Outlaws gear, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Rikishi, Booker T, Mean Gene Okerlund, Bob Backlund, and Scotty Too Hotty.

Ric Flair is no-doubt the biggest star, that we know of, to be showing up this time around; The Undertaker was arguably the biggest name to return in 2013. It’s important to bear in mind that last year’s Old School RAW took place almost 2 months later in the year, so everyone’s favorite Dead Man resurfaced to hype his match with CM Punk at WrestleMania XXIX.

So what will Ric Flair be up to when he comes back home to the squared circle? His most recent forays back into the WWE Universe were all about his budding bromance with the Miz, to whom he’s even gifted his patented Figure Four leg lock. Given Flair’s penchant for speaking his mind, Ric will no-doubt fire a few salvos at current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Rany Orton, if for not other reason than Orton’s at the top and Flair has never had his sights set anywhere else.

It certainly wouldn’t be a shock to see The Shield set their sights on Ric Flair like they did in late 2012, but the hounds of justice had better beware; last time they did so, Ryback, Daniel Bryan and Kane came to Flair’s aid. Given the shifting alliances these days, it’s unlikely that the same rescue party would be there to help Ric out, but as the only superstar to be inducted twice into the WWE Hall of Fame, it’s safe to assume Ric Flair will have some back up. Our bets are on Big E Langston.

iHeartRadio Expands Automotive Availability

by Jordan Crook
iheartradio

Today Clear Channel’s iHeartRadio is expanding its availability in the automotive realm. The company, which offers streaming internet radio to over 40 million registered users, is pushing into new territories by integrating with Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo, and Kia automobiles.

As it stands, iHeartRadio is already available in various Chrysler, Ford, GM, Lexus, Lincoln, Nissan and Toyota vehicles.

But that’s not all.

iHeartRadio has also announced a partnership with Bosch SoftTec, a platform provider for car OEMs building out infotainment systems. This way, iHeart will reach wherever Bosch SoftTec does.

Here’s what Clear Channel President of Digital Brian Lakamp had to say about it:

Radio is the original mobile, in-car entertainment feature. With the new advancements in automotive infotainment systems, Clear Channel is able to extend the reach of our radio stations to even more listeners. We’re extremely pleased to work with Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo and Kia to bring iHeartRadio to their dashboards, as well as be available in BOSCH’s deeper extension into consumer-facing functionality — providing even more listeners with the products and services they expect no matter where they are – and no matter where they drive.

According to the release, the new iHeartRadio car apps are focused on minimalism, keeping the driver safely on the road and focused on driving while still enjoying all the music or talk radio they want.

Speaking of, iHeart recently introduced talk radio to iHeartRadio’s catalog, letting a number of big name brands host live radio shows which can be saved for later listening. The platform is also introducing a way for everyday users to record podcasts/radio shows.

There’s no clear word on availability when it comes to the new in-car apps, but the press release promises 2014.

Withings Aura: An Alarm Clock That Helps You Wake Up and Fall Asleep

Designing an electronic device to wake someone up is easy—it just needs a clock and suitably loud speaker. But designing a device that wakes someone up gently so they're not a tyrant in the morning, and helps them get to sleep at night? That's a challenge that Withings tackled with its new Aura bedside system that uses light and sound to make falling asleep and waking up a lot easier.

Boonie Bears- Second Ever CGI Film Made Entirely In China

by Zeon Santos

(Video Link)

Everyone assumes the Chinese are responsible for Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks ripoffs such as Life's A Jungle, Kiara the Brave and The Little Panda Fighter, but surprisingly these films come from Brazil, India and Canada, not China.

The first fully Chinese CGI film was released in the U.S. as Legend Of A Kung Fu Rabbit, and was clearly glossed over as a Kung Fu Panda knockoff, for good reason. But now Chinese animation studio Fantawild Animation Inc. is about to release their second ever CGI film called Boonie Bears, and it looks like they're really getting the hang of the medium.

Sure it’s got the Yogi Bear/Open Season look about it, but at least they're trying hard to create uniquely Chinese content, which is more than can be said about the studio that released the ripoffs Ratatoing and What's Up.
