The Better Call Saul story has been revealed. February’s much-awaited Breaking Bad spin-off has officially dropped details about what the show will do with Bob Odenkirk’s character.

Odenkirk originally appeared about halfway through Breaking Bad’s five-season run, when Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) needed some legal help, and his character Saul Goodman helped shape the rest of the series. Saul was advertised as “the guy who puts the ‘criminal’ in ‘criminal lawyer’,” making him a fan favorite as he literally played a role opposite that of Walter’s DEA brother-in-law Hank Schrader (Dean Norris).

According to Coming Soon, Saul didn’t always go by that name. His birth name was James M. McGill, and he starts the series as a small-time lawyer trying to find his way. The Better Call Saul story begins six years before he meets Walter White, confirming this to be a prequel and possibly promising some cameos or at least mentions of characters we’ve seen from AMC’s hugely successful story.

One of those cameos has been confirmed with the appearance of Jonathan Banks’ Mike Ehrmantraut in the first promo trailer, as previously reported by the Inquisitr.

The series will follow the story of Jimmy’s transformation into the hustler known as Saul Goodman. With the return of creator Vince Gilligan and executive producer Peter Gould, the drama and dark humor which made Breaking Bad famous will return. With a six-year tale on its way, it appears the creators are aiming for an even more ambitious plot with the Better Call Saul story.

Better Call Saul has already been greenlit for a second season of 13 episodes, following the 10-episode first season.

The first of the new promos shows someone scanning some “World’s Greatest” mugs before settling on the “Lawyer” ones and exchanging a new one for a chipped one with a sticker for half off.

The second Better Call Saul trailer shows someone looking through a collection of suits before placing another one on the automated rack with the name Saul Goodman on it.
