Undocumented husband of Indiana Trump supporter deported to Mexico

SpinnyNuNu

It's really hard to feel sorry for this woman. Her husband, yes, I feel sorry for.

I can't fucking believe we're now deporting business owners who are fathers and husbands to American citizens.

In November, she thought Trump would deport only people with criminal records -- people he called "bad hombres" -- and that he would leave families intact.

Messages to mother claim Alycia Yeoman was kidnapped, sources tell KCRA 3

SpinnyNuNu

This situation keeps getting worse. Her car was found off the road in an orchard with only one set of footprints walking away, her phone was found the same day by a citizen. Her ex-boyfriend made comments to a station about her "stresses" and maybe she went out there to "go for a walk". Now her mom is getting ransom texts

I don't think this is going to end well.

0.99999999... is equal to 1.000000

by noreply@blogger.com (Minnesotastan)
SpinnyNuNu

I understand the concept, but it's making me annoyed

This is true.  0.99999.... repeating to infinity is not really really really close to 1.0.  It equals 1.0.
0.9…, or in a variety of other variants such as 0.9, 0.(9)... 0. 9 ˙ {\displaystyle 0.{\dot   denotes a real number that can be shown to be the number one. In other words, the symbols "0.999…" and "1" represent the same number. Proofs of this equality have been formulated with varying degrees of mathematical rigor, taking into account preferred development of the real numbers, background assumptions, historical context, and target audience.
There are a variety of ways to demonstrate this to nonbelievers.
The most easily understood is to revert to other familiar repeating digits.  Everyone knows that 1/3 is 0.333... and that 2/3 is 0.666...  If you add them together, you get 3/3, which is one.

But now note that the sum of the decimals on the right side of the equation is 0.999...

Therefore, one is equal to (not close to) .999...

You don't agree?  Then try this.  Subtract .999... from one.  What you have is 0.000...  An infinitely long string of zeroes, which can only be equal to zero.  And if the subtraction of .999... from one leaves zero, then the .999... must be one.  But, you say, there's a one at the end that string of zeroes.  No, there isn't, because the string of 9s doesn't end.
Other proofs are offered at the Wikipedia entry.

Mike Pence Refusing To Eat With Women Other Than His Wife Isn’t An Endearing Love Story

by Hemant Mehta
SpinnyNuNu

So, either he thinks that being alone with a woman will make him lose self control and have sex with her (cuz obvs she wants to bang him), or that she will take advantage of him (because obvs she wants to bang him), or that she will use the encounter to blackmail him (because obvs women are gold-digging Jezebels).

In a story about Karen Pence, the wife of the Vice President, the Washington Post's Ashley Parker recalled a particular detail that's not surprising for those familiar with evangelical Christianity but probably sounds downright bizarre to everyone else.shutterstock_480924628

"We want all of you to come with."

by noreply@blogger.com (Minnesotastan)
SpinnyNuNu

I was born and raised in the Bay Area and I've been known to use this phrase and I'm kinda surprised that it's seen as atypical.

Does the title seem ungrammatical to you?  If so, you're probably not from the Upper Midwest, where that terminal "with" is a common construction.  Last night I watched the movie "Fargo" and heard that sentence in the dialogue.

Historical immigration patterns are probably responsible:
In [North-Central American English], the preposition with is used without an object as an adverb in phrases like come with, as in Do you want to come with? for standard Do you want to come with me? or with us?. In standard English, other prepositions can be used as adverbs, like go down (down as adverb) for go down the stairs (down as preposition). With is not typically used in this way in standard English (particularly in British and its clone Irish English because of being distinguished as the original form of the English language), and this feature likely came from languages spoken by some immigrants, such as Scandinavian... German.. or Dutch... all of which have this construction, like Swedish kom med.

Blooming crime? Crooks target dogwood trees in Modesto

SpinnyNuNu

This pisses me off so much. First, who the hell just hacks up someone else's tree like that! OMG, it's so fucking mean.

But also, dogwoods are some of my favorite trees. When we lived in the mountains, when the dogwoods started to bloom it was the sign that winter was about to be over. Then we always had at least one snow on the dogwood blossoms and it was just beautiful.

If someone came and hacked up my tree I would lose my shit.

Oreo Eggs, reviewed

by Nicole
SpinnyNuNu

Yes please

Oreo Eggs, reviewed

A few months ago, I learned that Cadbury was selling Oreo creme-filled chocolate eggs in Canada. Some early pictures made it look as though the cookies n’ cream creme filling would be soft, much like that of a Cadbury creme egg, though pictures of the product in stores showed a firmer center. Oreo fans in the US began to clamor for a taste of this treat and, earlier this year, it was confirmed that we would get to have a taste of a very similar treat. I admit that I put a notification on my phone to remind me to keep my eyes out for these as Easter approached and, sure enough, they’re now widely available in my area.

The eggs are a bit smaller than Cadbury Creme Eggs, but have a fantastic plastic packaging that is both easier to open than the foil-wrapped eggs and seems to offer a bit more protection to the egg inside. All of the eggs I opened looked picture-perfect. The eggs are milk chocolate and are filled with a cookies n’ cream filling that is a bit softer than that of a regular Oreo cookie, but firm enough that there is no risk it will run out of the egg and make your fingers sticky. The creme has a vanilla base and is studded with crumbs of chocolate wafer cookie. The whole thing is sweet, but the milk chocolate contrasts with the sweet center surprisingly well and the small pieces of cookie ensure that you will get some crunch in every bite. I don’t think that I could eat these as easily if they were any larger (they are excellent with hot coffee), so the size works well for me. I personally wouldn’t mind seeing a little variety in the cookie bits – some larger and some smaller pieces – just to mix things up, but it’s a fun, sweet egg to add to your Easter basket this year!

Pressure Cooker Beef Brisket

Pressure Cooker Beef Brisket

My family has always cooked our Passover brisket in the oven, low and slow. It’s delicious, but takes over three hours to make! This year, I wanted to see if I could speed up the process using a pressure cooker.

And you know what? You can.

Using a pressure cooker, you can make tender, deeply flavorful brisket with a thick, rich gravy in about half the time!
