Friday Things

Shared for the Paul McCartney Carpool Karaoke. If you’re like me and didn’t watch it at first, please watch it because it’s amazing.

1. Isabelle is such an incredibly happy little baby. Her face lights up into a huge smile when I poke my head over her crib in the morning, or when I get her from a nap. The boys still love her, and – *knock on wood* – she has been sleeping incredibly well the last few nights. She goes down between 7-8pm, gets up for one feeding then immediately back to sleep, and up somewhere around 6-6:30am. I cannot complain, I just hope I haven’t jinxed it!

2. Joseph had his first ever dentist appointment this week and he did absolutely fantastic. I really wasn’t sure how he would handle it, but the assistant who did the cleaning was phenomenal with him and he really could not have done better. I was so proud of him!

3. Poor Dominic had a run-in with our coffee table last weekend that resulted in a nasty black eye :( He only cried for about 5 minutes and then he went about his business running around like a crazy person. I’m always amazed by how resilient kids are!

4. My aunt was telling us about the Paul McCartney carpool karaoke episode, so I watched it on YouTube and loved it! (You can watch it here if you’re reading this in an email.)

I’m not a crazy Beatles fan, but my best friend in high school loved the blue album and we listened to it all the time. It, along with Aerosmith’s Big Ones and Pink Floyd’s The Wall, was one of the first CDs I ever owned, and it always reminds me of my friend Lisa and carefree high school days.

5. Did you see that Chrissy Teigen is coming out with another cookbook? Her first one was easily one of the best that I’ve bought in the last few years, so I can’t wait for the follow-up!

6. Do you have 4th of July plans? Tell me all about them! And might I suggest whipping up some red, white and blue Jello stars, a flag cake from scratch, or a red, white and blue berry trifle?

7. Have you been watching any Instagram TV? I set up a channel for BEB, but haven’t done any videos yet. Let me know if you’ve been liking what you see!

8. I bought animal crackers for the boys for the first time (what? how?) a couple of weeks ago aaaaaaaaand I might like them way more than they do. Addicted!

9. New Netflix that we’ve been watching – Longmire, which was originally on A&E about six years ago. Did you ever watch it? We’ve liked it so far!

10. TGIF! I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Meet Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez - updated

by noreply@blogger.com (Minnesotastan)
SpinnyNuNu

I like this woman.

Even if you're not normally interested in elections, this 2-minute video is worth viewing, because it may be representative of a major shift in U.S. politics.

In the New York Democratic primary election yesterday, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez beat the incumbent Joe Crowley - by 15 percentage points.  The contrast between the candidates couldn't have been greater.  He has been a major figure in the current Democratic party for almost 20 years - fourth in seniority in the House of Representatives, and considered the likely replacement to Nancy Pelosi as House Speaker.

She is 28 years old, female, of Puerto Rican descent, with a working-class background, and is an advocate of socialist principles, such as Medicare for all.  She refused any corporate funding, relying only on small donations, and accumulated only $600,000 exclusively from small-dollar donors, versus Joe Crowley's $3,000,000.

She is considered by many to be representative of the future of the Democratic Party.
Ocasio-Cortez ran decidedly to the left of Crowley, but she also shook up how Democrats go about getting elected. Until now, Democrats have seen big money in politics as simply a deal with the devil that had to be made. Democrats are so often outspent by Republican mega-donors that they viewed courting big-dollar donors and corporations as part of creating a level playing field.

But if one of Democrats’ top fundraisers and likely successor to Nancy Pelosi can be toppled, perhaps Democrats need to rethink that deal.
She will easily sweep to victory in November over any Republican challenger; that result will have no effect on the national balance, because this district voted heavily for Hilary Clinton in the last election.  (Donald Trump's claim that Crowley lost of Ocasio-Cortez because Crowley was a "Trump-hater" is of course pure bullshit).

A seasoned CNN political analyst opined today that "The Democratic base is sick of the establishment."

One last observation regarding the often-talked-about "Blue Wave."  It's not certain that the Democrats will make major gains in the November mid-terms, but it is clear that a "blue wave" is already sweeping inside the Democratic Party.  Look at this graph from the Washington Post:

For eighteen years, the Republican Party has remained ideologically stable - about 2/3 conservative and about 10% liberal.  The Democratic Party has become steadily more liberal - from 29% to 50%  It's hard to believe that as recently as 2000, there were as many conservative Democrats as liberal ones.
Most of the Democrats who win primaries and then win election in November will not be as progressive as Ocasio-Cortez. Should the Democrats surge to victory, the new Congress will not be one in which Democratic Socialists are swarming the halls of power. But it will certainly be a more progressive Democratic caucus than the one that’s there or, probably, any in the last century.
If you read this without viewing the video, I encourage you to scroll up and spend 2 minutes watching it at full-screen.  I think it will become a template for a surge of similar campaign videos this fall.  And it cost only $10,000 to produce (she wrote the script for it, BTW).

Reposted from June 2018 to add the following from Axios:

"A freshman congresswoman who has held office for less than two weeks is dominating the Democratic conversation on Twitter, generating more interactions — retweets plus likes — than the five most prolific news organizations combined over the last 30 days... And she has far more power on Twitter than the most prominent Democrats, including the congressional leaders and the likely 2020 presidential candidates..."
  • "In short, she is the first — but certainly not the last — of an entirely new archetype: a politician that is not only fueled by the Internet, but born of it."

If (like me) you are not on Twitter, you can still monitor their tweets: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez  Donald Trump (and others via the "You may also like" links in their left sidebars).

Jim Bakker: God Personally Told Me He Sent Donald Trump to Delay the End Times

by Hemant Mehta
SpinnyNuNu

Ok, stay with me on this:

>>> Bakker said that while “the Antichrist spirit” has been let loose on America, “God has given us a man who is not afraid to fight. We have a president people think is crazy. They call him crazy, but he’s making peace treaties, he’s doing all the things to try to solve the world’s problems

Ok, I’m gonna put my Fundie hat on for a quick second. Everything we were taught about the end times and the Antichrist boiled down to one thing. He would come from within “the Church.” Christians would love him and not realize how destructive he was until it’s too late:

He is a Politician
While Daniel and Revelation confirm and expand upon these six characteristics, their main emphasis is on the political nature of the Antichrist. He will head up a kingdom, even an empire, similar to other nation states or empires. These books also make clear that this aspect of Antichrist’s work will become clearer and clearer nearer the end of time. Deception will be replaced with destruction, fraud will give way to force, the wolf in sheep’s clothing will shed his fleece and bare his fangs.*1

But the same people who taught this nonsense to me fail to see the correlation to our current president.

Seriously, go read the other 6 characteristics. They pretty closely match the president.

Obviously, I am not saying that I think Trump is the Antichrist. I’m just wondering why they don’t.
