Marina Abramović is a performance artist, who in 2010 performed The Artist is Present - sharing a minute of silence with each spectator that wished to. Over the 736 hour performance, hundreds of people sat across from her quietly. Marina had shared a passionate and tempestuous relationship with Uwe Laysiepen, with the relationship ending when they each starting walking from from one end of the Great Wall of China, met in the middle, shared a hug and left - never expecting to speak again. 20 years after that hug, Ulay attended the opening night of her performance without her knowing. The 100 Most Influential Singles of the 1960s. [via mefi projects]

Mefite jonp72 says, "I liked Pitchfork's list of the 100 best songs of the 1960s* for creating a canon of great 1960s songs instead of keeping the focus solely on albums, but I wanted to create my own revisionist take on such a list with the constraint that I limit myself to songs that were actually released on 45rpm singles. In addition, to make the list more interesting, I decided to focus on records that I thought were the most influential rather than songs that I considered the coolest or the best or the most pleasurable."

*It's actually Pitchfork's 200 best songs of the 1960's, but who's counting? Besides, jonp72's list is far more interesting than smelly old Pitchfork's.

It's an extremely well thought-out article that profiles each of the hundred songs in a well-written and informative fashion. I did my half-assed best to try to link to the single versions of each song, but even in this infotainment superage I had trouble with some songs. I'm going to assume right here and now that there're likely a few mistakes in my linking, as I made this post while watching Dredd 3D (minus the 3D).

Hey guys! We have something we’ve been working on that we’re really excited to share with you!

We got tired of missing out on interesting events simply because we didn’t hear about them in time, so we built forekast.com.  In short, it’s a place where people can post and vote on the best things happening every day, resulting in a visual outline of the best and most interesting upcoming events.  Here’s the site’s about us page which explains it all a little more.

Now that it’s ready, we need help!  This is the kind of thing that gets better as more people get involved and post events they know about based on their particular interests.  If you’ve heard about or know of a great upcoming event, please post it!  The national section is for events that people can experience from anywhere (or ones worth traveling to), like a meteor shower, something exciting on TV, SXSW, or even a live webcast of a SpaceX rocket launch. The local events section is for events happening closer to home, for example, a festival, farmers market, live music at a cafe, or a jet-pack-wearing bear convention. We’d also appreciate your help in spreading the word.  If you know people who’d enjoy this kind of thing please pass it along.

Unfortunately it’s only available in the US for now, but hopefully we’ll be able to add more countries in the near future.

Special equipment: Large non-stick skillet

Ingredients

serves Makes 2 sandwiches, active time 15 minutes, total time 15 minutes

• 1/4 cup mayonnaise
• 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice from 1 lime
• 1 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce, chopped, plus 1 tablespoon adobo sauce
• 12 ounces Mexican chorizo sausage
• 2 eggs
• 2 large cemita rolls, bolillo rolls, or Kaiser rolls
• 2 ounces Oaxacan cheese, or mozzarella, torn into pieces
• 1/2 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
• 1 small tomato, sliced
• 1 avocado, sliced

Procedures

1. Combine the mayonnaise, lime juice, chipotle pepper, and adobo sauce in a small bowl and set aside.

2. Place a large, non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the chorizo to the pan, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, and cook until the chorizo is heated through, 3 to 5 minutes. Scrape the chorizo out of the pan and transfer to a large platter and set aside.

3. Return the pan to medium heat, then crack two eggs into the pan. Place a lid on the pan and cook the eggs until the whites are set, but the yolks are still runny, 3 to 4 minutes. There should be enough fat left from the chorizo to keep the eggs from sticking. Carefully transfer the eggs to another large platter and set aside.

4. Cut the cemita rolls in half crosswise, then slather the chipotle mayo on each of the halves. Equally distribute the chorizo sausage among the two bottom halves of the bread. Layer the cheese, lettuce, tomato, and avocado on top of the chorizo. Place an egg on each bottom half, then top the sandwich with the remaining top halves. Serve immediately.

When Isotropic was released to the public, it didn’t even receive a full topic on BoardGameGeek.  dougz introduced it in a reply to another thread.

Who could have known that it would go on to host a staggering 12,051,301 games over the next two and a half years before finally closing its doors.  Championships were claimed, epic ragequits were had, but most importantly, Isotropic introduced thousands of people to Dominion and showed them just how fun it could be.

Of course, online Dominion has not ended.  Goko’s PlayDominion.com is alive and well, and though it’s a very different experience, it’s able to offer features that Isotropic never could support (single-player, tutorials, card art).

Shannon Larratt, the founder of body modification website BMEzine and a long-time Neatoramanaut (his first comment was back in 2009), has died in an apparent suicide. Shannon has left a note explaining his medical condition and the situation that led up to his death.
