Little Girls Are Better at Designing Superheroes Than You

In Alex Law's latest project, he takes pictures of little girls in superhero costumes and makes comic book character designs from them, which is a turnabout of the way adults do it: cosplayers recreating comic books as accurately as possible. The kids have no problem with improving upon accuracy by adding what they have available and what they just plain like. After all, there's no real reason the Hulk can't wear a tutu! These fine musicians have already taken over the USA rapidly with their powerful, groovy sound and their outstanding live performance, and are more than ready to take over the rest of the world now. This Blue Eyed Soul-Beat masterpiece was recorded with vintage equipment only onto analog tape (- engineered and mixed by Pete Curry of the STRAITJACKETS -) and it consists of ten fantastic Soul/R&B-gems, one catchier than the other. Listening to the sensational voice of singer Jeff Hershey and the authentic high quality-sound of the record, you will find yourself thinking these songs were actually produced in the 60’s.

Bob Brozman, the undisputed master of the National Resonator Guitar, has passed away at age 59. Ethnomusicologist, virtuoso fingerpicker, musical historian, and anarchist philosopher Bob Brozman fell in love with National's metal body resonator guitars as a teenager and made them his life's passion.
He began as a teenager mastering Delta blues, jazz and Hawaian slide styles, and then performing with cartoonist Robert Crumb's Cheap Suit Serenaders. Brozman went on to record with legends like Hawaiian Tau Moe, Indian slide guitarist Debashish Bhattacharya, and Mauritian maloya accordionist René Lacaille. He was fascinated by the music of colonial regions – how colonizers brought music that had a rhythmic emphasis on the first beat (like a march) while the people being colonized preferred emphasizing the off beats and playing in open tunings. His most recent efforts had been to explore the world of Papuan string band music - and he always liked to bring a bag of Bolivian charangos as gifts to see how different cultures adapted them to their music. There isn't a single redeeming quality to Glitterbest: 20 Pre Punk 'n' Glam Terrace Stompers. Nothing but good old dumb fun. From the mindless cover of the Kinks' "You Really Got Me" by the Hammersmith Gorillas that kicks things off with a resounding thud all the way to the end of the disc, it is nothing but loud guitars, shouted vocals, stomping beats, and ridiculous lyrics. It covers the years 1971-1976, and if you recognize any of the bands here you were probably a member. Lost gems? There are a few: the tough power pop of the Jook's "Aggravation Place," the '50s-inspired outer-space boogie of Flintlock's "Sooner or Later," the tough Modern Lovers in a wind tunnel sound of Despair's "Sweet Sweet Heart," Streak's "Bang Bang Bullet" (which apes the New York Dolls right down to Johnny Thunders' trademark guitar swoops), and the primitive thunk of Crushed Butler's very very stupid "High School Dropout." (Is Crushed Butler the greatest name for a band ever? Maybe.) Best of all is the extremely nasty "Sick on You" by the Hollywood Brats, which includes tender lyrics like "I'm sick to death of everything you do/And if I'm gonna puke/Oh babe I'm gonna puke on you." Otherwise, the disc serves up a wide range of forgotten music that never made a dent in any chart but sounds damn fine in 2004. You get glitter with Bowie as alien vocals on Jet's "Nothing to Do With Us," weird Roxy Music by way of Taco cabaret glam from Tiger Lily on "Ain't Misbehavin'," an early primitive version of "City of Fun" by England's Glory (later the Only Ones), hyped-up pub rock from Ducks Deluxe on the rockin' "Coast to Coast," and wonderfully silly stuff like American Jam Band's "Jam Jam" and Spunky Spider's "You Won't Come." You won't find any of this stuff in the history books and no one would ever call any of these bands innovators or visionaries. So what. Crank it up next time you want to bug your neighbors, blast it out of your car speakers, embrace it as the offspring of the ridiculous novelty singles of the '50s that you always turn up when they get played by accident on oldies radio. Have fun! That is what rock & roll is truly about and Glitterbest is 100 percent rock & roll. (Allmusic)

Non so se augurarmi spietatamente che la cosa prenda piede e qualche imbecille si faccia male sul serio, o esser buono e sperare altrimenti che la moda passi al più presto e senza far troppi danni.
Ma vediamo un po' di cosa si tratta:

Mundo jodido: mujeres follándose a coches

Hoy me he dado un paseo por algunas páginas de vídeos amateur y he descubierto uno, el primero de esta ristra que os dejo, que me ha dejado turulato. En él vemos a una señora de muy buen ver pasándoselo bien en un coche, ella sola. No es que condujera muy rápido o el coche fuera lujosísimo, sino que estaba follándose literalmente al vehículo restregando su cueva del amor con la palanca de cambio. Y a juzgar por la forma de moverse y de suspirar, diría más bien que le está haciendo el amor. Lo sorprendente del asunto es que investigando un poco es descubierto que no es la única. Mirad, mirad.

5 autores postmodernos que hai que ler (se un quere quedar ben)

A maioría da xente non le libros, iso din a maioría das enquisas. Aínda así (ou xusto por iso) ler continúa a estar ben visto e un ten que facer verdadeiros esforzos para ocultar que pasou as últimas noites (dos últimos anos) diante do ordenador e sen facer nada máis. Se un finalmente é quen de coller un libro, cómpre que sexa un de certo prestixio, porque de nada sirve ler se o resto dos teus amigos (post)modernos non respectan o que les ou te acusan de lector de best-sellers. Ata hai poucos anos quedar ben coa cultura literaria esixía ler desde o ‘Ulises’ de Joyce ata ‘A Odisea’ de Homero, pero que non se espalle o pánico, agora o que mola é ler escritores do noso tempo. Que no crean en nada, coma nós.
Como hoxe é o Día do Libro é o mellor momento para de recoñecer que cando un finalmente colle un libro é cando recorda por que lle gustaba tanto (e alá queda abandonado o pobre ordenador, coas series á metade). Tamén é o momento de lembrar as instruccións de ¿Borges? para os lectores, que un ten que ler o que lle pete e xamais acabar os libros por obriga, sempre por pracer. Que un nunca debe ler un libro só porque se supón que hai que facelo.
Sexamos libres nas nosas escollas literarias, si. Non tedes por que ler a estes 5 autores postmodernos, abonda con que coñezades os seus libros e aseguredes telos lido. Sen embargo, cónstame que miles de persoas coma ti e coma min (xente cool, pois) aseguran ter gozado realmente destes libros. Eu mesma, incluso se son bastante máis moderna que postmoderna (onde estea a paixón que se quite o cinismo) teño pasado moi bos momentos en compaña dalgún destes autores.
Aquí vai unha pequena lista cos mellores escritores postmodernos (para quedar ben nas conversas):
1. Michel Houllebecq – Se pensas en escritores postmodernos, sen dúbida este nome é o primeiro que se te vén á testa. Coas súas novelas ‘Plataforma’ e ‘A posibilidade dunha illa’ marcou un antes e despois na literatura francesa (e pode que universal), cun característico estilo que despois atopamos ata a saciedade. Polémico, e non so na ficción, retrata con crueza todo tipo de males modernos desde o cinismo (como non ) á distancia, e certa lucidez.
2. Bret Easton Ellis – Tamén cínico, tamén frío e tamén polémico, a súa obra ‘American Psycho’ abriulle as portas do Olimpo da postmodernidade. Todas as súas obras se caracterizan por narrar a decadencia moral das clases altas, e aínda que os libros se len moi ben (un estilo directo e conciso) un acaba un pouco aburrido de tanta vacuidade e nihilismo. Quizais ese sexa o obxectivo.
3. Richard Ford – Collemos folgos cun escritor de ritmo lento, interese polos perdedores, e disgresións constantes. Din que fai unha crónica da América actual, pero do que non cabe dúbida é de que retrata a mediocridade, o que pasa cando non pasa nada, o que normalmente non chama a atención. Non será un autor que faga saltar da emoción, pero si alguén en quen podemos confiar para atopar unha novela consistente e reflexiva.
4. David Foster Wallace – Se algo destaca de Foster Wallace é a súa intelixente ironía, máis aceda pero máis divertida ca dos autores anteriores. Por iso non importa tanto se un non entende moi ben o que se lle está a contar e por iso lle perdoamos o cinismo, o distanciamento e mesmo o amargor, profundo e constante. ‘A broma infinita’ é a súa novela de culto, máis de 1000 páxinas onde o de menos case é o argumento.
5. Jonathan Franzen – Considerado por moitos o mellor novelista americano do momento, é un novelista no sentido clásico (mesmo decimonónico) do término, explora o mundo a través de personaxes cribles, normais, realistas, en proxectos ambiciosos e entusiastas. A súa novela máis aclamada e ‘As correccións’, aínda que eu, polo momento, só podo recomendar ‘Liberdade’.

Testemuña e testemuño

A petición dunha boa amiga, explico as principais diferenzas destas dúas palabras e aclaro como se expresan en galego os diferentes significados da palabra castelá testigo.
Testemuño é a declaración que fai alguén que foi testemuña de algo. Tamén o indicio ou proba que dá fe dalgunha cousa. “Esta factura é o testemuño de que vostede estivo nese puticlub”. É dicir, substitúe o castelán testimonio.
Así mesmo define o obxecto cilíndrico que se emprega nas carreiras de remudas (en galego non debemos dicir de relevos) e que se pasa entre atletas en cada quenda. Neste caso substitúe o castelán testigo.
Testemuña define a persoa que testifica un feito por ter coñecemento del. É palabra feminina que designa tanto homes coma mulleres. “Laureano Oubiña di que foi testemuña de lazos evidentes entre política e narcotráfico”.

“Ojo de Halcón: Seis días en la vida de…” de David Aja, Matt Fraction y Javier Pulido.

Panini inicia por fin la publicación de la serie protagonizada por Ojo de Halcón con el primer recopilatorio que incluye los seis primeros números a cargo del guionista Matt Fraction y los dibujantes españoles David Aja y Javier Pulido. A estas alturas, no voy a descubrir a nadie quién es Ojo de Halcón pero por si hay algún despistado diré que es un secundario de lujo de esos que son argamasa del Universo Marvel. Un arquero infalible miembro de Los Vengadores que, salvo contadas excepciones, nunca ha gozado de un gran protagonismo individual, principalmente porque tampoco lo ha necesitado ya que su personalidad, andanzas y evolución donde mejor funcionaban era dentro de alguna de las muchas colecciones de “Los Vengadores”, haciendo de contrapunto perfecto a otros personajes. Por ese motivo, esta serie para el equipo creativo formado porFraction y Aja se me antojaba un regalo envenenado .
En estos números, se nos presenta a un Clint Barton, alías Ojo de Halcón, alejado de su faceta superheroica habitual como miembro de los Vengadores pasando sus escasas horas libres entre los vecinos de la comunidad en la que se ha comprado el apartamento. Sin embargo, cuando el propietario del edificio pretende desahuciar a los inquilinos Barton se erigirá en su defensor al tiempo que se mete en líos con el Circo del Crimen o echa una mano a Shield.
Ojo de Halcón siempre ha sido un héroe desubicado más allá de su pertenencia a Los Vengadores. Tenía la talla para ser un superhéroe urbano, un justiciero oscuro o un superespia encubierto magistrales pero ya había otros personajes en la Casa de las Ideas que ocupaban esos roles con colección propia, por lo que se convirtió en la versión mini de todos esos registros en las colecciones de Los Vengadores y con distintos guionistas lo bordó convirtiéndose en un recurso imprescindible. Los muy fans podrían pensar que Fraction y Aja ahora que contaban con la oportunidad iban a deshacer esta injusticia histórica desarrollando todo su potencial, sin embargo, estos arropados por su editor han optado por la vía más difícil ahondando en las inseguridades del personaje. Si alguien quiere ver a Ojo de Halcón lanzando miles de flechas y siendo más o menos fiel a su continuidad que siga leyendo las series regulares de “Los Vengadores” donde aparezca en estos momentos porque esta serie –para bien o para mal- es una serie de cómic de superhéroes de autor y lo que prima antes de lo que te cuentan y quién protagoniza la historia es quién te lo cuenta y cómo te lo cuenta.
Fraction ha tirado por la calle de en medio y en una maniobra que descolocará a más de un lector opta por un giro novedoso al construir un nuevo escenario para el personaje alejado de Los Vengadores, aun sin renunciar tampoco abiertamente a su tradición, para inventarse un antihéroe urbano y doméstico, sucio y realista, más apegado a los modos de los hard boiled setenteros protagonizados por Steve Mcqueen o los perdedores de James Ellroy que a las maneras de los supertipos en mallas, convirtiéndole a su pesar en el robin hood de sus vecinos de edificio frente a los tejemanejes de los hampones que pretenden echarlos y vender el inmueble. A lo largo de los diversos episodios dibujados por Aja, Fraction va desarrollando este macguffin inconcluso desarrollando la cara frágil del superhéroe a la estela del Miller de “Born Again” en una sucesión de tramas simples pero efectivas que permiten el lucimiento del dibujante y mantener la estructura clásica de 24 páginas permitiéndose alguna licencia a la espectacularidad y el estiramiento de la trama en “La Cinta”, la historia en dos capítulos dibujada por Javier Pulido.
En esta deconstrucción del superhéroe que es hasta el momento la serie, Fraction otorga como no podía ser de otro modo una sidekick que dé el contrapunto al protagonista a través de la Ojo de Halcón de los Nuevos Vengadores, Kate Bishop . Un personaje al que presenta como la contraposición de Clint Barton y con la que hay que esperar vaya desarrollando en las próximas entregas una mayor complicidad.
Las tramas ideadas en estos números por Fraction son bastante simples y si resultan interesantes es básicamente por la gran labor de los dos dibujantes españoles que aportan mediante una narración en la que prima el diseño minimalista frente a la espectacularidad hiperrmusculada habitual en el género una nota de originalidad, retorciendo las convenciones lógicas y jugando con el ritmo y la linealidad de las historias para otorgar un plus de calidad, abriendo al lector habitual exclusivamente de superhéroes una ventana a muchos recursos del cómic que por desgracia en muchas ocasiones se obvían o directamente se desconocen aun cuando en otras épocas se desarrollaron dentro del género superheroico. Pulido y Aja apuestan por su trabajo y conocimiento del género y usan del trampolín mediático de un personaje como Ojo de Halcón para reivindicar el cómic de superheroes de autor y para ello en estos episodios no se cortan a la hora de jugar con la linealidad de la narración o experimentar distintos recursos, tal y como años ha lo hicieran los Steranko, Ditko y cia.
Mención especial merece David Aja para quién lo más sencillo hubiera sido emular las formas de “El inmortal puño dehierro” y ahondar en la espectacularidad fotorrealista de esa serie, sin embargo para este nuevo proyecto opta por arriesgar adaptando el minimalismo formal a lo Chris Ware al género de superhéroes mediante un dibujo de trazo preciso, expresivo y simple evocador de Mazzuchelli, incorporando atractivas notas de diseño que en cada página esconden alguna sorpresa visual que ayuda a renovar lo trillado de unas tramas tópicas a las que da nueva vida. No me gustaría dejar de destacar tampoco la labor de un Javier Pulido, que sin renunciar al mismo interés por el diseño que ya viniera demostrando desde "Blanco Humano", otorga a su historia una mayor espectacularidad en una trama a lo James Bond más convvencional aunque en ocasiones se torne algo confusa en su desarrollo para lo que se quiere contar.
En definitiva, los dos dibujantes disparan parecidas flechas a la misma diana, buscando sorprender al lector abriéndole la mente sobre las posibilidades visuales del género aunque ello en ocasiones fuerce la narración y la estructura lógica de la historia.
Una advertencia final, “Ojo de Halcón” no es una colección de superhéroes al uso y sí se trata de un cómic arriesgado, innovador y experimental en el que prima la identidad de los autores antes que las ideas preconcebidas que el lector pueda tener sobre el personaje que lo protagoniza. Si se acepta esa premisa, el viaje para el lector será una gozada visual, pero si el lector no está dispuesto a renunciar a los tópicos prestablecidos en torno al género puede llegar a parecerle un coñazo infumable. Es el precio de optar por la búsqueda de la genialidad.
