Batteritiden i smartphones har senaste månaderna tagit det största klivet framåt på många år. Enligt recensioner har exempelvis Oneplus 13 två dagars batteritid precis som företaget hävdar. Det ska vara smått omöjligt att tömma batteriet på bara en dag.
Två framsteg ligger bakom den utökade batteritiden: ny batteriteknik som gör att större kapaciteter får plats på samma yta som tidigare, samt mer strömsnåla komponenter likt systemkretsen och skärmen. Högre energidensitet och energieffektivitet har till sist givit oss betydligt bättre batteritid.
Kinesiska tillverkare använder numera kisel-kol-batterier. Utöver att erbjuda en högre energidensitet ska batterierna även hålla längre och tåla mer extrema temperaturer. Oneplus 13 har 6000 mAh men det har även släppts normalstora telefoner med friska 7000 mAh. Gällande chippet är det specifikt Snapdragon 8 Elite som förbättrat batteritiden, men kommande nya systemkretsar under året erbjuder förhoppningsvis liknande förbättringar.
Frågan är nu bara om övriga tillverkare kommer implementera lika stora batteriökningar på 20 procent eller mer i år, eller ifall kapaciteterna ligger kvar kring 5000 mAh.

The synopsis has a quick reminder of what else happened in that finale:
At the end of Season Two, after defeating Ishamael, Rand reunites with his friends at Falme and is declared the Dragon Reborn. But in Season Three, the threats against the Light are multiplying: the White Tower stands divided, the Black Ajah run free, old enemies return to the Two Rivers, and the remaining Forsaken are in hot pursuit of the Dragon… including Lanfear, whose relationship with Rand will mark a crucial choice between Light and Dark for them both. As the ties to his past begin to unravel, and his corrupted power grows stronger, Rand becomes increasingly unrecognizable to his closest allies, Moiraine and Egwene. These powerful women, who started the series as teacher and student, must now work together to prevent the Dragon from turning to the Dark…no matter the cost.
Not mentioned here: all those Forsaken Ishamael was revealed to have released, or Nynaeve’s new friend Elayne (or Nynaeve’s testing), or the very bad time Egwene had, or Mat’s convenient escape from Liandrin’s prison along with Min, or Mat blowing the Horn of Valere. There was a lot, in that quite good season. And I haven’t even mentioned Lanfear.
They’re all back for the third go-round: Daniel Henney as Lan Mandragoran, Josha Stradowski as Rand al’Thor, Zoë Robins as Nynaeve al’Meara, Madeleine Madden as Egwene al’Vere, Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara, Dónal Finn as Mat Cauthon, Ceara Coveney as Elayne Trakand, Kate Fleetwood as Liandrin Guirale, Natasha O’Keeffe as Lanfear, Ayoola Smart as Aviendha, and Kae Alexander as Min Farshaw.

Garmin-användare har råkat ut för att urtavlor kraschar, vilket resulterar i att en ”IQ”-logga visas. Buggen verkar hänga samman med Garmins plattform Connect IQ och specifikt bero på ett problem i funktionen Storage.setValue() som appar och urtavlor utnyttjar för att spara data.
Enligt rapporterna följer krascherna inget bestämt mönster och de har ingen tydlig orsak. En utvecklare sägs ha registrerat nästan 400 000 krascher i sin app sedan augusti. Garmin har bekräftat buggen i sitt forum men säger att det är svårt att konsekvent reproducera buggen, vilket gör det svårare att hitta en hållbar åtgärd.
För alla som har en Garmin-klocka och har råkat ut för krascherna är det i vilket fall bra att veta att Garmin känner till problemet och arbetar på en lösning.

Vi har tidigare ifrågasatt Googles strategi gällande lanseringen av nya funktioner för Pixel-användare och för Androidanvändare i allmänhet. Google vill uppenbarligen att så många som möjligt ska känna till de nya funktionerna: nyheter tillkännages genom blogginlägg, bilder och reklamfilmer.
När Google lyckas nå ut och användare – framförallt entusiaster – får höra talas om nyheterna är en naturlig reaktion att de vill testa nyheterna själva. Men kunder kan lätt undra vad som är fel, eftersom finesserna inte syns till. Vissa Messages-funktioner som lanserades för snart ett år sedan saknas fortfarande, likt de separata profilerna.
Profilerna som aldrig dök upp
Vi vet inte varför Google fortsätter introducera, marknadsföra och puffa för funktioner som inte går att använda, men företaget har inte ändrat sin förvirrande strategi. När Google tillkännagav de stora nyheterna för Messages hade det varit optimalt eller rentav rimligt att släppa alla nyheterna genom en uppdatering av appen redan samma dag, eller samma vecka.
Och om vissa av funktionerna inte var redo: låt bli att presentera dem. Lanseringarna är så oberäkneliga att bloggar likt 9to5google skrivit spaltmeter om vilka av finesserna som faktiskt släppts och vilka som saknas. Om Apple kan skicka ut nyheter för alla globalt samtidigt borde Google kunna släppa en uppdaterad meddelandeapp till sina kunder utan att nyheterna sprids ut över ett helt år?
Ett mer färskt exempel är att Googles nya väderapp fortfarande inte dykt upp en vecka efter Google påstod att appen släpps för äldre Pixel-telefoner. Upprörda röster har höjts på Reddit. Bloggar har behövt skriva förklarande inlägg eftersom kunder är förvirrade. Väderappen har gått att installera manuellt som APK sedan i somras: det finns uppenbarligen inga kompatibilitetsproblem, så varför uppstår en sådan fördröjning?
Sajten 9to5google ställde nyligen frågan om Androiduppdateringar blivit mer förvirrande. Varken Google eller användare tjänar på att tillkännagivna nyheter dröjer och att nya funktioner sprids ut över lång tid, så det är dags för Google att se över sin strategi.
Netflix’s animated Arcane series is coming to an end with its second season, but there’s plenty of action to come before it’s all over. The story of sisters Jinx and Vi—voiced by Ella Purnell and Hailee Steinfeld—continues in season two, as they face the consequences of their first-season actions. Purnell told Netflix, “One of the biggest themes of Arcane is, you are the choices that you make, and you can never predict the consequences of those choices.”
Here’s the synopsis, per Tudum:
Arcane tells the origin story of two iconic League of Legends champions, who just so happen to be sisters. Jinx (Purnell) — also known as Powder — and Vi (Steinfeld) find themselves on rival sides of a brewing war between the utopian city Piltover and its oppressed underbelly Zaun. Powder and Vi are completely transformed by the end of the first season, as Powder becomes the mischievous Jinx and Vi proves she’s one champion you don’t want to mess with.
Arcane also stars Katie Leung as Caitlyn, Reed Shannon as Ekko, Brett Tucker as Singed, Mick Wingert as Heimerdinger, and JB Blanc as Vander.
While this particular show only has this second and final season to go, co-creator Christian Linke told Tudum that Arcane is “just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.” The final season of Arcane comes in three parts: Act I on November 9th, Act II on November 16th, and Act III on November 23rd. Flaggskeppsmobilen Oneplus 13 kommer lanseras nu i oktober i Kina. Oneplus har inte meddelat ett specifikt datum men det bör bli efter eller i samband med Snapdragon Summit som pågår 21–23 oktober.
Telefonen drivs inte oväntat av Qualcomms senaste och snabbaste chipp som antingen får namnet Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 eller Snapdragon 8 Elite. Oneplus kinesiska chef utlovar ”superprestanda utan motstycke” (översättning av översättning) och superlena animationer. Den globala lanseringen av Oneplus 13 kan dröja till början av 2025.
Once upon a time, a small child might have been obsessed with Masquerade, Kit Williams’ illustrated book that was also a puzzle: If a person could solve it, they would discover where to dig up the golden hare. For a time, Masquerade was so popular that there’s a whole book about it. (Jess Zimmerman has a great Hazlitt piece about Masquerade, if you’re curious but don’t want to hunt down an out of print book.)
Masquerade spawned more puzzle books, including The Secret (the prize for which has never been found) and the French Sur la trace de la chouette d’or (On the Trail of the Golden Owl), which was published in 1993. Eleven riddles in the book must be solved in order for a reader to discover the location in France where a brass replica of the actual golden owl was hidden. To earn the real owl—made of gold and silver and diamonds—they would have to submit the replica and their solutions to the riddles.
The owl has finally been found. According to the BBC, the book’s illustrator, Michael Becker, has verified that the owl was located, posting, “We confirm that the replica of the golden owl was dug up last night, and that simultaneously a solution has been sent on the online verification system.”
The website Golden Owl Hunt notes that there is, in some quarters, a bit of a conspiracy theory afoot. The original book was written by Max Valentin (the pen name of Régis Hauser), but he died in 2009. In the early 2020s, EuroNews says, Becker got his hands on the solutions to the riddles, and then set up a Discord and revitalized the hunt. But apparently, when Becker dug up the original brass owl (to update its paperwork), it had been replaced by an iron version of the bird. Because of this, one fan site contends that the original brass bird has still not been found.
Presumably, at some point the masterful puzzle-solver will come forward and bring all this mystery to a close. According to CNN, the solver’s solutions are “currently being vetted.”[end-mark]

Samsungs första smartring Galaxy Ring introducerades i början av juli men har fortfarande inte lanserats i Sverige. För de som gillar den här typen av wearable kan kommande Oura Ring 4 kanske istället vara ett alternativ.
Enligt källor Bloomberg varit i kontakt med kommer Oura lansera fjärde generationen av sin smartring nu i oktober, med bättre batteritid, en tunnare design och mer precis aktivitetsspårning. Företaget närmar sig 500 miljoner dollar i intäkter under 2024 och räknar med frisk tillväxt under 2025.
Över 2,5 miljoner Oura-ringar har sålts hittills. En nackdel med Oura är att ringen till skillnad mot Galaxy Ring kräver en prenumeration. Samsung bör lansera Galaxy Ring i Sverige förr eller senare.
I stort sett varenda smartphonetillverkare erbjuder idag möjligheten att aldrig ladda batteriet bortom en angiven nivå, för att förlänga batteriets livstid. Funktionen har varit del av vissa Androidtillverkares gränssnitt i åratal, men Google är en eftersläntrare.
Google kommer erbjuda möjligheten att stanna laddningen automatiskt vid 80 procent först i Android 15 QPR1. Fulla nivåer och låga eller tomma nivåer stressar batteriet vilket på sikt kan förkorta batteriets livslängd: batteriet degraderas snabbare.
Huruvida vi bryr oss om detta är dock högst individuellt. Faktorer likt laddningsvanor eller huruvida mobilen inte skulle kunna hålla igång en hel dag om vi inte laddade till 100 procent varje gång kan inverka.

Förra året ställdes den retoriska frågan om vi äger apparna vi köper. Svaret är från flera perspektiv ”nej”. Digitala varor vi betalar för kan försvinna eller dras tillbaka eller läggas ned, med vissa undantag likt nedladdade e-böcker i epub-formatet eller andra varor som fungerar lokalt och offline.
En ny lag i Kalifornien som träder i kraft nästa år informerar kunder om att de inte äger köpta digitala varor: de köper bara en licens för att få använda innehållet. Butiker med digitala varor får inte längre använda uttryck som ”köpa” ifall de inte informerar kunder om att köpet inte ger obegränsad tillgång till varan.
Företag som inte följer lagen kommer straffas med böter. Digitala varor som kan fungera permanent offline omfattas inte av de nya reglerna. Lagen kommer som en reaktion på ”försvunna” spel, filmer, låtar och e-böcker. Ett uppmärksammat fall var när Sony försökte ta bort kunders köpta Discovery-innehåll från deras Playstation-bibliotek. Sony ändrade sig dock efter kritiken.
Orphan Black: Echoes had a nigh-impossible task: follow up the original series Orphan Black, with its incredible star turn(s) from Tatiana Maslany, with (mostly) new characters and a new mystery, and make it so that it’s understandable to a non-Clone Club audience. And despite a great cast and intriguing concept, it seems to have missed the mark, as AMC has cancelledEchoes after just one season.
Echoes starred Krysten Ritter as a woman named Lucy who was trying to make a normal life for herself—despite her unusual origins. Or, as AMC put it:
Set in the near future, Orphan Black: Echoes takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal. Ritter plays Lucy, a woman with an unimaginable origin story, trying to find her place in the world.
The series came from creators Anna Fishko (Fear the Walking Dead) and original Orphan Black co-creator John Fawcett. Along with Ritter, it starred Keeley Hawes, Reed Diamond, Amanda Fix, Avan Jogia, Rya Kihlstedt, and James Hiroyuki Liao, along with a couple of familiar faces from the original series. Reviews were mixed; as The Hollywood Reporter said, “Orphan Black, Echoes has its pleasures—starting with Fix, Liao, Hawes and Kihlstedt. What it lacks is that thrill of discovery. Compared to Orphan Black, it’s but a distant echo.”

Google berättar i ett långt inlägg på säkerhetsbloggen varför det är en god idé att inaktivera 2G på telefonen. Idag när väldigt många har tillgång till 5G är 2G blott ett avlägset minne men telefoner kan fortfarande rent tekniskt ansluta till 2G-nätverk – såtillvida 2G-nätverk inte blockeras.
På Pixel-telefoner inaktiveras 2G genom att öppna inställningarna, trycka på Nätverk och internet, trycka på ”SIM-kort”, trycka på telefonnumret högst upp och slutligen bocka ur Tillåt 2G längst ned.
Varför kan då 2G utgöra ett säkerhetshot? Google nämner ”cell-site simulators” – även kallade ”false base stations” och Stingrays – som imiterar mobilmaster och utnyttjas för attacker, nätfiske eller till att snappa upp kommunikation.
Enligt inlägget kan angripare köra runt med ”false base stations” (FBS) eller rentav ha en i ryggsäcken. Eftersom dessa baseras på 2G-nätverk skyddas användare genom att helt enkelt inaktivera 2G på telefonen. Även ifall 2G blockeras kan 2G användas vid nödsamtal om det skulle behövas. Tele2 har idag publicerat en rapport som visar hur mycket operatörens kunder surfar, ringer samtal samt skickar SMS. Utöver värden för riket som helhet presenterar Tele2 även tabeller som redogör för användningen i varje enskilt län.
Enligt rapporten är det jämtlänningarna som surfar mest bland Tele2:s abonnenter med en månatlig genomsnittsförbrukning om 24 GB, medan gotlänningarna surfar minst och använder inte mer än 14 GB i månaden. I Stockholms län ligger genomsnittsförbrukningen i jämförelse på 19 GB per månad.
För SMS är skillnaderna mellan länen desto mindre. I topp finner vi Jämtland tillsammans med Västernorrland som i genomsnitt skickar 64 stycken SMS i månaden, medan vi i botten hittar Stockholms- och Hallands län med 52 st respektive 50 st SMS i månaden per abonnent.
För telefonsamtal dominerar Stockholms län med ett genomsnitt på 147 st samtal i månaden, vilket kan jämföras med 114 st samtal för Kalmar län som står för den lägsta noteringen bland samtliga län. Trots att det rings flest samtal per abonnent i Stockholms län så är det gävleborgarna som spenderar längst tid på sina samtal, med ett genomsnitt om 629 samtalsminuter i månaden, medan skåningarna av allt att döma tycks minst pratglada med ett genomsnitt om enbart 509 samtalsminuter per månad.
Enligt Tele2s sammanställning pratar svenskarna i genomsnitt 576 minuter i telefon, vilket är minskning jämfört föregående år (732 minuter) och skickar 56 SMS per abonnemang varje månad, ned från 76 SMS jämfört med samma period föregående år. Den genomsnittliga dataanvändningen ligger på 18,6 GB per månad, vilket är ökning jämfört med föregående år (16 GB). Peruse, if you will, what I believe is one of the first press releases from the Harris campaign, released after a Fox News appearance by Donald Trump earlier today:
Two points to make here. The first is that not only are the gloves off, they were never on in the first place. The second is that one advantage that the GOP had in the last two election cycles — the presumption that the Democrats would always “go high” when they went low — is very clear no longer operable.
I don’t know if Trump and the GOP are actually prepared for the Harris campaign to treat them with the respect they deserve, which is to say, none whatsoever. This is different than saying that Trump and company aren’t prepared to go low; they’ve been in the gutter so long that it’s now their high ground. What I’m saying is that it’s harder to effectively stab your opponent when she’s busy punching you in the face, and wearing brass knuckles when she’s doing it.
Which is again a reminder: 2024 is not 2020 or 2016. I’m curious to see if the Trump campaign will be able to understand that.

Has there ever been a story in which it was a good and safe decision to take a job working for a complete stranger in an isolated mansion? That certainly isn’t the case in Doctor Jekyll, the latest adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. Here, the great Eddie Izzard stars as Dr. Nina Jekyll, who hires a young man named Rob (Scott Chambers) to help out around her massive old home. Lindsay Duncan is there too, being a bit ominous and concerning when it comes to explaining the role (and the number of cameras in the house).
Clearly, many things are going to go awry. Nina seems to like chess, and mutters about always being “two steps ahead,” but when Rob forgets her meds… someone else emerges. Of course. This take on the classic story involves the pharmaceutical industry, in which Nina worked—and may now be a bit beholden to for one nefarious reason or another.
Doctor Jekyll is directed by Joe Stephenson (Chicken) and written by Dan Kelly-Mulhern (making his feature film debut). It also stars Robyn Cara, Jonathan Hyde (really?), Morgan Watkins, Simon Callow, and Tony Jayawardena.

Nästan varenda tillverkare erbjuder idag funktioner för att förlänga batteriers livslängd; bland annat genom laddningstak som gör att laddningen stannar vid angiven nivå. Fulla och tomma nivåer stressar nämligen batteriet och kan förkorta livslängden.
För de som planerar att ha kvar en mobil år efter år kan goda laddningsvanor faktiskt göra stor skillnad på sikt, tack vare att batteriet degraderas långsammare. Google är en av få aktörer som fortfarande inte låter användare ange tak för laddningen – till och med Apple har implementerat funktionen.
Enligt upptäckter av Mishaal Rahman verkar Google lyckligtvis till sist börja låta användare stanna laddningen vid 80 procent. Google borde ha erbjudit 90 procent som alternativ också när de ändå var i farten för de som vill ha en kompromiss, men 80 procent är bättre än inget. Källan tror att nyheten dröjer till en av kvartalsuppdateringarna framåt slutet av året.

In 2020, people were talking about The Decameron a lot (relatively speaking). Giovanni Boccaccio’s 14th-century tale about a bunch of nobles telling each other stories to pass the time while the Black Death raged seemed, well, somewhat more relevant than maybe most of us expected.
Now, four years later, Netflix has a Decameron series—with a bit of a twist. According to Tudum, “as time goes on and social rules wear thin, the orgy of riches and liquor collapses into a struggle for survival. Wealthy citizens escaping a plague by engaging in a lavish and insular display of wealth? Doesn’t sound like this could be relevant at all!”
The trailer for the series is an odd mix of actually funny and just mildly awkward, but with this cast, one can only assume that Netflix is saving the best bits for the show itself. Yes, that’s Arrested Development’s Tony Hale in a wig as Sirisco, who is described as “the affable, ill-prepared, and eager-to-please steward of Villa Santa.” Girls’ Zosia Mamet plays Pampinea, a lady who is “full of hope and absolutely lacking in self-awareness.”
Amar Chadha-Patel (The Wheel of Time) is a “cocksure physician”; Jessica Plummer (The Girl Before) is “spoiled oddball” Filomena. Derry Girls’ Saoirse-Monica Jackson plays a codependent servant, and Harlots’ Douggie McMeekin an insufferable bachelor.
The Decameron is created by Kathleen Jordan (the showrunner of Teenage Bounty Hunters), and produced by Jenji Kohan’s production company; Kohan created Weeds and Orange Is the New Black. Join the party July 25th on Netflix.[end-mark]
Materialvalet är sällan det mest intressanta med en ny smartphone men så är fallet med kommande Oneplus Nord 4. Idag har nästan alla flaggskepp glasbakstycken. I en undersökning på Swedroid förra året svarade endast åtta procent att de föredrar glas framför andra material. Metall var det populäraste alternativet, med 45 procent av rösterna.
Oneplus Nord 4 förväntas erbjuda en unibodykonstruktion i metall, likt klassiska flaggskepp från mitten av 10-talet. Ett rykte diskuterar nu vad telefonen erbjuder i övrigt. Källan nämner en 6,74-tumsskärm med OLED-teknik, FHD+ och 120Hz uppdateringsfrekvens.
Om uppgifterna stämmer drivs enheten av Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 (4nm) ihop med ett saftigt 5500mAh-batteri med stöd för 100W-laddning. Kameratrion sägs bestå av en 50MP huvudkamera, en 8MP supervidvinkelkamera och en frontkamera med 16MP. Många tillverkare brukar inkludera en så gott som meningslös tredje bakre kamera i budgetmobiler bara för att det ser bättre ut, vilket Oneplus lyckligtvis verkar ha undvikit den här gången.
Nord 4 introduceras i Milano 16 juli tillsammans med Pad 2, Watch 2R och Nord Buds 3 Pro. Alla enheterna förväntas komma till Sverige.
That season, which Hulu dubbed the eleventh one, aired last July. Today, we got a trailer for season twelve that teases a planet made of bowel-moving coffee, Bender drop-kicking a lil’ robot that looks like his progeny, and a ginormous disco ball that destroys a settlement.
It is, in short, Futurama as we know it.
Here’s the synopsis for the upcoming episodes:
On this orbit around the sun, our occasionally heroic crew embarks on mind-bending adventures involving birthday party games to the death, the secrets of Bender’s ancestral robot village, A.I. friends (and enemies), impossibly cute beanbags, and the true five million-year-old story behind the consciousness-altering substance known as coffee. And, of course, the next chapter in Fry and Leela’s fateful, time-twisted romance.
The cast continues to boast the voice talent of John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman. The good news for Futurama fans is that season twelve won’t be the last episodes of the show; back in November 2023, Hulu picked up twenty additional episodes of the series, which suggests that at least two more seasons are coming our way.
The twelfth season of Futurama is set to premiere on Hulu on July 29, 2024.
Members of the Lakota nation and Marvel Entertainment have teamed up to provide a dub of 2012’s The Avengersin the Lakota language, with the core cast—Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, and Jeremy Renner—coming together to take part.
“Our ancestors, they were punished for speaking our language,” Executive Producer Eugene “Ray” Taken Alive said in a video Marvel put out about the collaboration. He added, “Our language, it went underground. It was spoken in bedrooms when the matrons weren’t there at boarding schools. It was spoken in dark rooms where nobody could hear them, but it was still spoken.”
The initiative is part of The Lakota Language Reclamation Project, and aims, as Project Executive Producer Cyril “Chuck” Archambault says in the video, “to put the language back in the homes of our people—to be able to have them bond in such a way where they’re having fun watching a movie, and be totally integrated with the language of our people.”
The video shows Downey, Johannson and Ruffalo practicing and recording their lines with their Lakota partners. The project took over fifteen months and involved sixty-two Lakota-Dakota language speakers and the original Avengers team.
This dubbing project comes after Marvel released the What If…? episode, “What If… Kahhori Reshaped the World,” which had characters speaking Mohawk and Spanish with English subtitles. The Disney+ series Echo, which stars Menominee actor Alaqua Cox as the deaf Choctaw fighter Maya Lopez, also has a dubbed version in the Choctaw language.
