Picture of a deer camouflaged in a field of dried sunflowers

Deer Hide

Photograph by Jeremy Baker, National Geographic Your Shot

This situation happened to come to fruition due to my five-year-old's love of the outdoors, says Your Shot member Jeremy Baker, who captured this shot in Minot, North Dakota. Bakers son had asked to go for a drive to look for wildlife to photograph. [While] driving down a secluded dirt road ... I noticed a doe moving through the dried up sunflowers, trying to hide from me. I turned off my truck and used the window as a tripod and snapped away, as she was curious enough to show me her vulnerable side.

Existing home sales report reveals caution

by Gina Martinez
None!

this one hit a little close to home. i found a buyer for my place within 5 days. what i would do for more inventory though, its going to be tough and competitive. good thing a have a bag of cash.

"The National Association of Realtors released its February existing home sales report on Monday, March 23rd, 2015. Numbers were up by 1.2 percent, but that wasn't enough to make up for the drop in existing home sales in January of 4.9 percent.

Even LeBron James is having trouble selling his Miami house and just dropped the price to $15 million. James is not the only homeowner having trouble finding a buyer, but there aren’t many homeowners putting their houses up for sale either, says Adam DeSanctis, with the National Association of Realtors.

“Current homeowners are possibly waiting for their equity to build up a little bit longer before selling,” he says, or sitting on some low interest rates they snagged refinancing in the last year or two.

McKay Price, who teaches real estate at Lehigh University, says this shortage of homes is good for home sellers, but “If I’m a home buyer and I’m interested in finding just the right house, then I’d be a little bit grumpy about the inventory being as tight as it is,” he says. “I’d want more choices.”

Especially for folks who can’t afford a down payment, much less a 16,000-square-foot mansion. Sorry, LeBron."

Existing home sales report shows cautious homeowners and home buyers.

World's biggest art heist, 25 years later

by Caitlin Esch
None!

On March 18, 1990, two men dressed as police officers stole 13 pieces of art from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, in Boston.

They took rare Rembrandts, a Vermeer, and works by Manet and Degas. All together, the stolen art was worth about $500 million. According to the FBI, it was the largest property crime in U.S. history. A few days after the incident, the Gardner Museum's president and director said, "It is as if there'd been a death in the family."

A quarter-century later, the case remains unsolved. Kelly Crow covers art for The Wall Street Journal. She says the heist changed the art world.

"I think both museums and private collectors got a wake-up call," Crow tells Marketplace's David Gura. "Museums have gone back and taken a much tougher look at their protocols."

For example, the security guard on duty that night had only one alarm he could trigger at his post. And when the guard was lured away, there was no way for him to signal for help.

Crow says, even after all these years, the stolen art leaves gaping holes in the museum. Isabella Stewart Gardner hadn't wanted any of the pieces moved. So all that hangs in the place of the stolen masterpieces are empty frames.

Few clues and nothing recovered. The art world will never be the same

Picture of a Sally Lightfoot crab riding on the back of an iguana in the Galapagos

Crabbing a Ride

Photograph by Nancy Leigh, National Geographic Your Shot

"The setting was very eerie, writes Your Shot member Nancy Leigh. In the darkness [of] an overcast early morning, there was a large gathering of black juvenile iguanas on the rocks of Punta Espinoza on Fernandina Island in the Galpagos. While completely surrounded by iguanas, Leigh spotted a bright-red Sally Lightfoot crab climbing onto one of the lizards. It was a delicate balance ... acting fast to capture the moment while respecting their space and not disturbing either animal," she says.

Leighs image was recently featured in Your Shots Daily Dozen.

Hermès Releases its First Watch Range in 20 Years, the Slim d’Hermès

by Elaine YJ Lee

Unveiled at Baselworld 2015 today in Geneva is Hermès’ new watch range, the French house’s first to release in almost 20 years. The watches are unisex and come in three sizes — 39.5mm, 32mm and 25mm — decked with either stainless steel or rose gold casing, clear sapphire crystal backs, and straps made of steel, alligator, calf or Barenia leather. There’s also the option to add diamonds on the front of the case.

The watches, designed by La Montre Hermès Creative Director Philippe Delhotal, are almost entirely made in-house: the Swiss movement maker Vaucher is partially owned by Hermès; case maker Joseph Erard and dial maker Natebar are both fully owned by Hermès; and even the straps are crafted in Hermès’ Brügg, Switzerland factory. The Slim d’Hermès timepieces are assembled by hand as well, from placing the bevel to even stitching the straps.

The design of the Slim d’Hermès range — as the name may already suggest — is extremely slim, with thin numerals, hands and overall shape that make them light, both visually and physically.

Prices start at $3,100 and to go up to $38,900. The full range will be available for purchase in October.

Inside the Incredible “London Penthouses” at NEO Bankside

by Lena Dystant

Designed by award-winning group, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, London’s NEO Bankside offers incredible luxury apartments along the River Thames, including 3 sprawling, light-filled penthouses. Located right next door to the Tate Modern gallery, the development boasts 360 degree views of the city, taking in St Paul’s Cathedral, The Shard, Big Ben and all in between. A Richard Roger‘s trademark from the Pompidou Centre to the Lloyd’s building, the four tower build uses a distinctive external bracing, the “inside-out” system eliminating the need for internal structural walls and allowing for a more flexible arrangement of the space.

Stepping inside, The London Penthouses stand as the NEO’s crowning glory. With over 7,000 square foot to play with in the largest home, designers Waldo Works and Reid Williams create a cool, modern space against a white backdrop, working with the incredible triple-aspect light and introducing a touch of Danish modern across the duplex formation. Those with $30,000,000 going spare can register their interest over at the website.

15 percent
According to the National Urban League's "State of Black America", the black unemployment rate exceeds 15 percent in 33 major U.S. cities. The report also included a state-by-state assessment of education inequality for the first time, and found that areas with greater segregation also saw major reading and math proficiency gaps, as well as high school graduation gaps.

350 jobs
Yahoo announced it would close its remaining office in China, effectively eliminating 350 jobs. The company says the move is part of its efforts to cut global costs. As reported by the BBC, the fired employees have already been approached by a local employment agency.

$9
That's how much Target will pay in minimum wage starting next month, as reported by the WSJ. As companies like Wal-Mart and T.J. Maxx make similar moves, efforts to attract and retain low-wage workers are getting more competitive.

$10 million
Speaking of Target, the company has reportedly agreed to pay a $10 million settlement in the class-action lawsuit related to 2013's data security breach. As reported by Reuters, Target will put the money into an " interest bearing escrow account, to pay individual victims up to $10,000 in damages."

6,000 babies
That's how many babies were involved in a Brazilian study looking at correlations between breast feeding and long-term success. As reported by the Guardian, babies that were breast-fed longer tended to be better educated, and higher-earning as adults.

Here are the numbers we're reading and watching for Thursday.
