Google has stopped selling the Nexus 5, the company's 2014 flagship Android smartphone. A Google spokesperson told The Verge today that "while some inventory of Nexus 5 still exists (with our retail and carrier partners), our focus is on the Nexus 6 at this time." Searches for the older model on Google's new hardware store show that the Nexus 5 is no longer available for purchase direct from Google.

These tiny ASCII animations live in your browser's address bar
These animations created by developer Glen Chiacchieri might be the cutest example of ASCII art we've ever seen. Each piece is composed of multiple frames that are actually uniques URLs — click on one and your browser loads the pages in quick succession, turning your address bar into a flip book-style animation.
There's an option to make your own and even a tiny side-scrolling shooter that lets you control a spaceship as you tear across the interstellar reaches to battle it out with warlike aliens. (If you have an overactive imagination that is — otherwise it's mostly just squiggles and dots.)
this will spam your Internet history and possibly break your browser
Be warned though, Chiacchier's animations work best in Firefox...

Fuhu Just Went Insane And Announced Some TV-Sized Tablets
When Fuhu announced the 20- and 24-inch Big Tabs, we all kind of chuckled and gave them a pass. Surely kids would like huge tablets, right? I think so. But now things are just getting out of hand - the company just announced 32, 43, 55, and 65-inch Big Tabs. Tablets the size of TVs. It's insanity, I say.
All of the Big Tab XL models are capable of doubling as TVs (thankfully), which makes them a little more justifiable.

The addictive and delightful 'Two Dots' is now available for Android
Abdulmajeed Al-ShuaibiYeah baby!
Two Dots was one of the better iPhone games to come out this year and a definite improvement over the simple but addictive original. Fortunately, those of us who use Android every day can now give it a shot — the game is out now in the Google Play Store. It's a free download and is a straight port of the iOS version and contains the same in-app purchases as the original. Fortunately, just like the iOS version, those in-app purchases are entirely unnecessarily to enjoy the game. Sure, running out of lives is a bummer, but it's smart to take a break now and then. And if you're a cross-platform player, you can connect the app to Facebook and all your progress will sync across both iOS and Android devices.
If you're unfamiliar with the game...
3D-Printed Moto 360 Bumper Cases Now Available On Shapeways For $8 - Wait, What?
Abdulmajeed Al-ShuaibiThis so adorable.. <3
Most watches don't have much in the way of accessories beyond straps and winders. But then most watches don't hold a ton of electronic guts, and most watches aren't owned by gadget fans with an obsessive need to keep their toys in pristine condition. To fill that need, a merchant on the 3D printing marketplace Shapeways is selling custom-made bumper cases for the Moto 360. Yeah, really.
"Raelx" is offering the $8 cases in a variety of colors and styles.

Final Fantasy XIV Expansion 'Heavensward' Further Detailed at London Fan Festival This past weekend, London hosted over 2,000 Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn fans at its first European Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival. At the event, Square Enix announced more details for the upcoming expansion, Heavensward. During the opening ceremony presentation, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida introduced flying mounts, new beast tribes and primals and a new job: Dark Knight. These will all be featured in Heavensward when it launches next spring. Flying mounts enable players to take their adventure to new heights. Two types of flying mounts were revealed at the Fan Festival, a flying black chocobo and single-rider airships, both making it easier to explore the floating lands that will be featured prominently in the expansion. Heavensward also introduces two new beast tribes, the Vanu Vanu and the Gnath, as well as their primals, Bismarck, and Ravana, respectively. Finally, the first new job to be released in Heavensward was revealed: Dark Knight. This new job will serve as a tank, wields a two-handed greatsword, utilizes darkness-based actions and unlike the existing jobs in the game, will not feature a base class that later evolves into a job. Yoshida concluded the keynote by announcing that more details, and more jobs will be revealed (he said while pretending to shoot a gun), for Heavensward will be shared at the next Fan Festival event, taking place in Tokyo on December 20 – 21. The free trial version for PC is available for download at ffxiv-freetrial.com. The free trial features the ability for new players to play up to 14 days for free and allows for character development until level 20. |

'The Wire' is finally being remastered in HD, and it's probably coming to HBO this week
Abdulmajeed Al-ShuaibiShiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!
HBO's The Wire, aka that show you've been saying for years you'll watch because all your friends won't shut up about it, is coming back. According to a promo video found by Polygon editor Arthur Gies (as noted by HBO Watch), a marathon of this series will be broadcasted on HBO Signature weeknights at 8PM starting September 4th, "remastered in for the first time in high definition."
Although it initially aired in 4:3 standard definition, The Wire was reportedly shot with Panavision cameras in Super 35. A widescreen version of The Wire showed up briefly streaming on Amazon Prime — true widescreen, not cropped on the top and bottom — before returning to its former 4:3 aspect ratio.

64-Bit Chrome for Windows in the Stable Channel

"64-bit Chrome offers many benefits for speed, stability and security. Our measurements have shown that the native 64-bit version of Chrome has improved speed on many of our graphics and media benchmarks. For example, the VP9 codec that’s used in High Definition YouTube videos shows a 15% improvement in decoding performance. Stability measurements from people opted into our Canary, Dev and Beta 64-bit channels confirm that 64-bit rendering engines are almost twice as stable as 32-bit engines when handling typical web content," informs Google.
So why is 64-bit Chrome opt-in? It doesn't support 32-bit NPAPI plugins. This may be an important downside for some users, but Chrome will remove NPAPI support in the coming months anyway. Until then, the 32-bit Chrome will still be the default.
Chrome's "known issues" page informs that the 64-bit plugins for Java and Silverlight work properly, while the plugins for Google Earth and Google Voice don't work because they're 32-bit plugins. You can switch between the 32-bit and 64-bit Chrome versions from Chrome's download page.

[Update: It's Official] Google Is Rolling Out Support For Multiple Simultaneous Language Selections In Voice Search
Update 8/21/14: Google today made the feature official by announcing it on the Inside Search blog. Head over to Search -> Settings -> Voice -> Languages to pick your languages.
![]()
Anyone who uses more than one language on a regular basis has probably felt some degree of annoyance with Google's voice search system on Android. You have to dig way into the settings to change the language, and there's no way to mix and match.

Who said it: tech executive or evil dictator?
Welcome to the first annual Verge Hack Week. We're totally blowing up our site: we've given our reporters and editors the entire week to play with new tools and experiment with new storytelling ideas, while members of our amazing product team have gathered in New York to help build all sorts of interesting new things. Learn more.
Some of the most powerful people on the planet also run public companies, but let's not forget about dictators that have made their mark on history for things that weren't phones and computers. We've pulled together some quotes from both groups, and now it's your turn to guess whether it's from a tech exec, or a historic dictator. You might be surprised at how bad you are at this.
Vigil Games survives Crytek, forms new studio, considers more Darksiders
Abdulmajeed Al-ShuaibiDarksiders III pls :(
Vigil Games may have died in the husk of THQ, a victim of a catastrophic video game industry implosion that scattered developers, studios and game franchises across the globe, but the spirit of the studio behind Darksiders, that core team of creators, lived on as Crytek USA.
