Kim Jong-un stars alongside Dennis Rodman in an over-the-top sidescroller

[f] Não é o herói que essa cidade precisa, mas o herói que essa cidade merece... Ou vice versa, nem sei mais.

After a brutally hard day of brutally dictating, how should a brutal dictator relax? With his own video game, apparently.

Kim Jong-un, the Supreme Leader of North Korea, stars in the sidescrolling shooter Glorious Leader, due for release soon on PC, and later on mobile devices.

It's not expected to be available in Pyongyang.

Glorious Leader also stars Kim's pal Dennis Rodman, the former NBA star and iconoclast invited to North Korea by Kim, said to be a fan of the Chicago Bulls, with whom Rodman won three NBA championships. Rodman's "basketball diplomacy" visits have resulted in a number of embarrassing statements and the general impression he's shilling for a ruler whose purges include killing family members, to say nothing of...

Being a bully may be good for your health, study finds

by Arielle Duhaime-Ross
Edu

Então tá tranquilo.

Childhood bullying has been linked to a number of physical and mental health effects, including lower self-worth, depression, and serious illnesses later in life. But until now, researchers had largely focused on examining these effects in victims of abuse, not the bullies themselves. This may soon change, as a long-term study published today in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences was able to demonstrate that "pure bullies," people who have never experienced bullying themselves, do in fact face a long-lasting health effect from abusing others. As it turns out, that effect is actually beneficial — even when compared to people who aren't involved in bullying at all.

Twitter Now Allows You to Mute Specific Users

Today, Twitter announced a much needed improvement: the ability to mute a user without unfollowing them. The feature will be rolling out over the next few weeks.

Muting a user will be available on an individual's profile and you can mute and unmute as often as you like. This is particularly useful if someone you follow has the nasty habit of tweetstorming or if you just want to turn off some news sites until you can catch up on Game of Thrones. Twitter has been quietly testing this feature, but it will roll out to everyone in the coming weeks.

'Constantine' trailer shows the horrors of demon hunting

[f] É tipo isso aí... Acertou o sotaque e o resto é meio que fácil.

DC's famous demon hunter is headed to television this fall in Constantine, and NBC has just released its first trailer. The show, based off of the comic series Hellblazer, follows John Constantine's crusade against a hidden evil rising up on Earth. From the trailer, the series looks to be creepy, terrifying, and even a little funny, with pretty impressive special effects for a television show. Matt Ryan of Criminal Minds stars as Constantine, and Lucy Griffiths of True Blood costars as his new demon-hunting partner; a couple of Lost alumni turn up in the trailer too. It'll be airing on Fridays — so you may be recording it for later — but from the looks of it, Constantine has the potential to be a big series nonetheless.

Foil surveillance by wearing a mask of this artist's face

by Jacob Kastrenakes
Edu

[f] Porra. Que bosta, hein, cara?

In certain locations, video cameras can track you everywhere. Artist Leo Selvaggio doesn't think that'll go away, so he's proposing a way around it: a single mask of a human face that anyone can wear if they don't want to be identified. Selvaggio is creating a full prosthetic and a simple paper mask that both feature a replica of his own face, making it so that wearers of the mask will be identified as him by automated recognition software. Selvaggio is running an Indiegogo campaign to fund the masks, which are part of a project titled URME Surveillance (pronounced as a slurring of "you're me" — an apt description of the project).

Satanic group reveals crowdfunded monument for Oklahoma State Capitol

by Dante D'Orazio

[f] Real life trolls

A Satanist statue cast in bronze is just months away from completion, and activists hope that it will find a home on the lawn of the Oklahoma State Capitol. Ultimately, the statue — which features the seven-foot tall, horned figure of Baphomet fawned upon by two exultant children — is intended to stand directly next to a highly controversial monument of the ten commandments that was donated by a state legislator in 2012 and subsequently placed on the grounds of the Capitol.

The Baphomet figure, complete with a goat head, angel wings, and a beard, comes from a recently-formed New York group identifying as The Satanic Temple, which raised over $28,000 on Indiegogo earlier this year to commission a sculptor and create the piece. Satanic...

Worn On TV Finds the Exact Clothing Used on Your Favorite TV Shows

Ever find yourself sitting on your couch, watching an episode of your current favorite TV show and see an outfit you must have? Web site Worn On TV keeps a catalog of what each character is wearing on a large amount of today's most popular TV shows.

The site lets you search by show, episode, and even character. If they have an exact match for the outfit you're looking for they plop an "exact match found" right on the image of the character in their respective outfit. From there, you can find out what it is, who makes it, and most importantly, where to get it.

The site seems to be mostly geared towards women, but they have men's options as well (they're just not quite as extensive). Hit the link to check it out and dress like your favorite characters.

Zack Snyder will direct a 'Justice League' movie to follow 'Batman vs. Superman'

"Superman vs. Batman [sic] will lead into Justice League."

A Justice League film that would unite several DC superheroes has been rumored for some time, but this represents the first official confirmation. Comic book action fans may have a while to wait, however — with Batman vs. Superman delayed until May 6th, 2016,...

David Fincher may not direct Steve Jobs biopic after all

by Bryan Bishop

[f] Aaaah. :(

While Ashton Kutcher's Steve Jobs film came and went, the real attention has been on the big-screen adaptation of Walter Isaacson's biography of the Apple co-founder. That project may be hitting a speed bump, however: according to The Hollywood Reporter, David Fincher may not direct the project as previously hoped. The disagreement appears to be a matter of money; Fincher is said to be asking for a $10 million upfront fee, which the studio is balking at due to what it sees as the film's relatively niche appeal. "You're not doing Captain America," an unnamed studio source is quoted as saying. "This is quality — it's not screaming commerciality."

Fincher seems an obvious choice for the film, given his exacting aesthetic sensibilities...

Extracting Gesture Information from Existing Wireless Signals

by Mathieu Stephan
Edu

[f] Pra quem achava que a traquitana que o Batman usa no Cavalheiro das Trevas era pura fantasia.

A team at the University of Washington recently developed Allsee, a simple gesture recognition device composed of very few components. Contrary to conventional Doppler modules (like this one) that emit their own RF signal, Allsee uses already existing wireless signals (TV and RFID transmissions) to extract any movement that may occur in front of it.

Allsee’s receiver circuit uses a simple envelope detector to extract the amplitude information to feed it to a microcontroller Analog to Digital Converter (ADC). Each gesture will therefore produce a semi-unique footprint (see picture above).  The footprint can be analyzed to launch a dedicated action on your computer/cellphone. The PDF article claims that the team achieved a 97% classification accuracy over a set of eight gestures.

Obviously the main advantage of this system is its low power consumption. A nice demonstration video is embedded after the break, and we’d like to think [Korbi] for tipping us about this story.

LastPass and the Heartbleed Bug

by Amber Gott
Edu

[f] O que mais me intriga é por que teriam feito um logotipo tão interessante pra uma vulnerabilidade?

With news breaking on Monday, April 7th that the Heartbleed bug causes a vulnerability in the OpenSSL cryptographic library, which is used by roughly two-thirds of all websites on the Internet, we want to update our community on how this bug may have impacted LastPass and clarify the actions we’re taking to protect our customers.

In summary, LastPass customers do not need to be concerned about their LastPass accounts. Though LastPass employs OpenSSL, we have multiple layers of encryption to protect our users and never have access to those encryption keys.

What is the Heartbleed Bug?

The Heartbleed bug is a vulnerability in the OpenSSL cryptographic library that allows stealing of information normally protected by the SSL/TLS encryption used to secure the Internet. OpenSSL is open-source software that is widely used to encrypt web communications. SSL/TLS is what normally provides secure and private communication over the Internet via websites, email, IM, and VPNs. According to CNET, an attacker can exploit Heartbleed to essentially “get copies of a server's digital keys then use that to impersonate servers or to decrypt communications from the past or potentially the future, too.”

Heartbleed is being taken so seriously because OpenSSL is widely used, essentially no servers locally encrypt their data the way LastPass does, and it’s been exploitable for some time.

How does it affect LastPass?

LastPass utilizes OpenSSL for HTTPS/TLS/SSL encryption and we were therefore “vulnerable” to this bug. For anyone who was using this tool: http://filippo.io/Heartbleed/#lastpass.com to check whether LastPass was vulnerable, it would have shown that we were vulnerable until this morning, when we restarted our servers after the patched OpenSSL software update.

However, LastPass is unique in that your data is also encrypted with a key that LastPass servers don’t have access to. Your sensitive data is never transmitted over SSL unencrypted - it’s already encrypted when it is transmitted, with a key LastPass never receives. While this bug is still very serious, it could not expose LastPass customers’ encrypted data due to our extra layers of protection. On the majority of the web, user data is not encrypted before being transmitted over SSL, hence the widespread concern.

Also, LastPass has employed a feature called “perfect forward secrecy”. This ensures that when security keys are changed, past and future traffic also can’t be decrypted even when a particular security key is compromised.

Our next steps

This bug has been out there for a long time, so we have to assume our SSL keys could have been compromised. We requested a reissued certificate this morning, and plan to roll it out today, while we’ve already deployed the OpenSSL software update after restarting our servers this morning.

LastPass customers should not be affected by the certificate transition, we expect it to be seamless with no interruptions to service.

Because other websites may not be encrypting data the way LastPass does, we recommend that LastPass users generate new passwords for their most critical sites (such as email, banking, and social networks) if those sites utilize Apache, Nginx or show as vulnerable to the Heartbleed bug. However, users should wait until their sites have replaced their certificates, with a start date after today (April 8th, 2014). For more information on replacing passwords with newly-generated ones, please see this article.

Thank you to our community for your vigilance, and we’ll provide further updates if there are any changes to the situation.

Update: April 8th, 4:46PM ET

We have built a tool to help LastPass users check whether other sites and services they use may have been affected by Heartbleed, you can check it out at: https://lastpass.com/heartbleed

The new SSL certificates for LastPass and Xmarks have been reissued as well.

Update: April 9th

LastPass now alerts you if the sites stored in your vault may be impacted by Heartbleed. See our new blog post for more details: http://blog.lastpass.com/2014/04/lastpass-now-checks-if-your-sites-are.html

Update: April 10th, 2:29PM ET

Many users are still concerned about what the Heartbleed situation means for their LastPass master passwords. To further clarify, we do not see a need at this time for LastPass users to update their master passwords. That said, if you would prefer to, there is no harm in doing so. We continue to update our LastPass Security Check tool to provide you the latest information regarding impacted sites. Thanks to our community for the feedback and input.
