Kristen Wiig, Steve Carrell, Chris O’Dowd battle a huge fly

Funny people Kristen Wiig, Steve Carrell and Chris O'Dowd recently sat down on BBC One's "The Graham Norton Show," where they were joined by an unexpected guest: a massive fly.

Carrell, who apparently is well versed in the art of fly-catching, shared a strategy for its quick capture. "That fly has no idea the danger it's in right now," joked Norton.

"Oh, I so hope he comes back," said Carrell.

Well, the fly did come back, but its capture didn't go according to Carrell's plan:

Watermelon Oreos Are Perfect For Summer

by Jill Harness
Shainaf87

im going to jewel in five minutes~!!!!!

What's more summery than watermelon? Watermelon Oreos, of course! Unlike some of the other odd Oreo flavors, Dinosaur Dracula says these ones are actually pretty good, though they taste more like watermelon Bubblicious than the actual fruit. Some people would say that's even better though.

Vessel by Splinter Works

by Erin
Shainaf87

damn fucking cool

Design studio Splinter Works have created Vessel, a bath made from carbon fibre that hangs
like a hammock.

ve_200613_02

From Splinter Works

“Struck by the synergy between the shapes of two compelling symbols of relaxation, a hammock and a bath tub, we were inspired to develop a piece that would provide the ultimate vehicle for total escapism.” Miles Hartwell, Co-founder Splinter Works, June 2013

The peaceful experience of kicking-back in a hammock has been further enhanced by combining it with the immersive comfort of soaking in a hot bath. By literally elevating the experience of bathing into a suspended sculpture the bathroom has been reinvented as a contemplative sanctuary for artful relaxation.

Designed for use in a wet room, Vessel is suspended from the walls and does not touch the floor. It is fixed with stainless steel brackets that can be covered over, or left revealed. The bath is filled using a floor standing tap and the waste water released through the base into a floor drain. A downpipe drain can also be installed if a wet room setting is not possible.

Vessel is made from carbon fibre which is utilised for its inherent strength and ability to be formed into complex curves, furthermore the weave of the fabric references the cloth of a typical hammock. Beneath the layers of carbon fibre lies a foam core, which insulates the tub, meaning the bath stays hot for considerably longer than normal.

At 2.7m long, Vessel is longer than a regular bathtub, leaving plenty of room to share the experience. Custom sizes are available but it is also designed so that it can be trimmed up to 20 cm to allow for flexible installation. Pictured here in black, it also available in red, blue, yellow, pink, bronze and pure silver.

With its clean lines and curvaceous shape, Vessel takes stylish relaxation to a new level!

"Is abortion a social good?"

by Cienna Madrid

This NYTimes article looks at what happens to women who are denied abortions, and how they compare with women who successfully had the abortions they sought, while also delving into a fascinating tangent on Czechoslovakia's abortion panel and the likeability of unwanted children:

When Diana Greene Foster, a demographer and an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California, San Francisco, first began studying women who were turned away from abortion clinics, she was struck by how little data there were. A few clinics kept records, but no one had compiled them nationally. And there was no research on how these women fared over time. What, Foster wondered, were the consequences of having to carry an unwanted pregnancy to term? Did it take a higher psychological or economic toll than having an abortion? Or was the reverse true—did the new baby make up for any social or financial difficulties?

...“The unstated assumption of most new abortion restrictions—mandatory ultrasound viewing, waiting periods, mandated state ‘information,’ ” Foster says, “is that women don’t know what they are doing when they try to terminate a pregnancy. Or they can’t make a decision they won’t regret.” Lost in the controversy, however, is the flip side of the question. What, Foster wondered, could the women who did not have the abortions they sought tell us about the women who did?

It's definitely worth your time.

'Masters Of Sex' On Showtime Debuts Saucy New Teaser Trailer (VIDEO)

by The Huffington Post News Editors

Showtime's "Masters of Sex" doesn't premiere until this fall, but the newly released teaser trailer should tell you everything you need to know about the cheeky new series chronicling the unusual lives, romance, and pop culture trajectory of the pioneers of the science of human sexuality, William Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan). Check out the new promo below:

"It's about Masters and Johnson, the man and woman who instigated all these incredible sexual experiments back in the '50s," co-star Beau Bridges recently told HuffPost TV. "I am the dean of the university where these experiments are happening. I'm sort of mentoring Masters -- he's my hope for the future -- so I'm a little freaked when he tells me what he's going to do."

NYC Gay Bar Gets Reality Show

by Joe
Shainaf87

this is the only gay bar i've been to in NYC and it was great. would definitely watch this!

Flaming Saddles, the Hell's Kitchen country gay bar that was temporarily closed by the health department last month, will be the focus of a coming reality show.
It will follow the straight couple Jacqui Squatriglia and Chris Barnes, who own the saloon that’s hosted “Modern Family” star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Anderson Cooper and members of “The Book of Mormon” cast. Apparently the stress of managing the venue and its cast of muscled, dancing bartenders is enough to require not one but two couples therapists. Squatriglia was a chorographer at another party-hardy dive, Coyote Ugly, before opening Flaming Saddles. Former “SNL” writer Margaret Oberman will produce for the production company Traveling Picture Show.
No word on when the show will launch.

BRAZIL: Protests And Riots Rock Major Cities Over Government Spending

by Joe
Massive protests took place across Brazil last night, partially in reaction to government spending plans for the World Cup and the Rio Olympics. Rioters in Rio De Janeiro set fire to the state legislature building. Protesters claim that social services and aid to the poor are being cut in order promote sports and tourism to Brazil. The New York Times reports:
Sharing a parallel with the antigovernment protests in Turkey, the demonstrations in Brazil intensified after a harsh police crackdown last week stunned many citizens. In images shared widely on social media, the police here were seen beating unarmed protesters with batons and dispersing crowds by firing rubber bullets and tear gas into their midst.

“The violence has come from the government,” said Mariana Toledo, 27, a graduate student at the University of São Paulo who was among the protesters on Monday. “Such violent acts by the police instill fear, and at the same time the need to keep protesting.”

While the demonstration in São Paulo was not marred by the widespread repression that marked a protest here last week, riot police officers in Belo Horizonte dispersed protesters with pepper spray and tear gas. In Porto Alegre, in southern Brazil, police officers also used tear gas against protesters.

In Rio de Janeiro, where an independent estimate put the number of protesters around 100,000, televised images showed masked demonstrators trying to storm public buildings including the state legislature, a part of which was set on fire. In Brasilía, the police seemed to be caught off-guard by protesters who danced and chanted on the roof of Congress, a modernist building designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer.
