Deep Fried Clam Chowder? What the What?

Crab cakes are so boring and old school. Why bother with something so passe when you can instead enjoy deep-fried soup without even traveling to a KFC in Japan?

Severe climate risks upgraded from “red” to newly added “purple”
The potential risks of worsening climate change are so severe that certain systems are no longer considered to be in the red. For the first time, they'll instead be in the purple.
The U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report previously used the color red in its risk diagram to represent areas most threatened by rising temperatures. Purple was added after concluding that "unique and threatened systems" like coral reefs and small island states are more vulnerable to the changing climate than could be accurately represented by the old diagram.
"Purple colour, introduced here for the first time, reflects the assessment that unique human and natural systems tend to have very limited adaptive capacity," a draft of the report reads.

Watch Lady Gaga and Andy Cohen Chat About Being Mostly Sober, Christina Aguilera, and the Housewives on What What Happens Live
Lady Gaga was appropriately loopy last night for her Watch What Happens Live debut alongside host Andy Cohen. But sober! Or, "mostly sober," she said, gesturing to her cocktail. She told stories of wandering naked in the woods for Marina Abramovic, how she really has nothing against Christina Aguilera (despite ... More »
The Newsroom Isn't The Best Show On TV! But It Can Be In New HIGHlarious Video Parody!
Are you still hate-watching The Newsroom?
You're not alone. Yet.
LOLz!
Aaron Sorkin's HBO drama has been polarizing TV audiences for more than a year now with it's witty, back-and-forth banter and retelling of actual news stories that happened months ago, thereby making them barely topical anymore.
As smart as the show tries to be, a new parody video from Funny or Die may be even SMARTER!
In a shot-for-shot recreation from the opening scene of the pilot, the new HIGHlarious vid spoofs the rant that lead character Will McAvoy went on when he was asked why America was the greatest nation in the world!
When asked why The Newsroom is the best show on TV, the new "McAvoy" explains EVERYTHING that is wrong with the series in one long-winded diatribe that had us crying with laughter!
Because The Newsroom ISN'T the best show on TV. But it can be!
Ch-ch-check out the funny, fast-talking tirade…AFTER THE JUMP!
A Message to Aaron Sorkin - watch more funny videos

The Cave Church of St. Simon in Mokattam

The Coptic Monastery of Saint Simon on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt, is not all that ancient, but it is magnificent. Built in 1976, it holds 20,000 people! The church serves the Zabbaleen, a group of former farmers who migrated to Cairo in the 1940s and became garbage workers. They settled near the cliffs of the Mokattam quarries and a eventually built the church right into the cliffside. See more pictures at Amusing Planet. Link -via mental_floss

Michael Jordan's Daughter Comes Out
On 29 August, Jordan’s only daughter Jasmine, 20, posted a photograph of herself and girlfriend Tyson-Thomas on the site with the caption: “This Little Closet Is Holding Me Back.” Responding to users’ questions on whether or not she was gay, she confirmed that it is true. Jasmine’s girlfriend is a former Syracuse Orange basketball star. She previously wrote: “Until love, trust, honesty, respect, loyalty, commitment, genuine happiness and other characteristics or aspects I want in a relationship is defined by one gender then and only then will I discuss my sexual preference.”(Tipped by JMG reader Birdie)

Churro Ice Cream Sandwiches
(Photo: Los Angeles Magazine)
It's hard to improve upon the magnificence of the ice cream sandwich, but chefs in Los Angeles have done just that. At the Churro Borough, you can eat ice cream sandwiches made between pieces of fresh churro:
Imagine this: warm, freshly fried, spiral-shaped churros the size of cookies—but thicker, like a small donut—holding, ever-so-gently, a creamy scoop of caramel peach ice cream. The churro is fluffy yet crisp, with a thick layer of cinnamon sugar clinging to its delicate surface. The ice cream, made from a custard base, leaves nothing to the imagination. It's rich and cool and just what you've been waiting for all week long.

Tyra Banks Dresses as Other Supermodels, Raises Cries of 'Whiteface'

On Twitter, Tyra Banks previewed some images from her upcoming exhibition Tyra Banks Presents: 15, in which she transforms into "iconic images of her colleagues, competitors, and friends." In the three images she posted, she's emulating Cara Delevigne, Kate Moss, and Cindy Crawford. Because this is the Internet, people have accused her of "donning whiteface." And so the circle of life continues.

Hot House
>> I didn't really know what to expect at Adam Selman's presentation. Just in case the name doesn't ring a bell, Selman is music artist tour collaborator, having created looks for Sufjan Stevens, Scissor Sisters and most notably and recently, Rihanna. Selman was also primarily responible for aiding Rihanna on her line for River Island. Whilst RiRi is on a break from touring, Selman took the opportunity to officially start his own thing and presented his debut S/S 14 collection last night, packed to the rafters with other people who were as curious as I was and obviously the RiRi aficionados, eager to see what Selman would come up with.
The result was a staged photoshoot with comedian and actor Amy Sedaris playing the role of the fashion photographer and models flaunting it with all their might. It was a veritable hot house set-up that instantly recalled for me, Deborah Turbeville's infamous 1975 bathhouse images. They caused a stir because swimsuited models weren't suppoed to appear so louche and melancholy. For Selman though, he had perkier references as he looked at the 1970s era of Cosmpolitan covers when photographer Francesco Scavullo exalted models to glamorous figures, who were body-proud and not afraid to express that overtly. Another reference was a 1981 HBO special on supermodels, Beautiful Baby, Beautiful, so you could see where Selman was coming from when he presented his bygone smiling and strugging in a state of soft focus deshabille. Spaghetti strapped slips, boudoir silk robes and powder pink/mint shades contrasted with sportier elements such as hockey jerseys, star-spangled denim and backpacks.
Selman said he just needed to get this collection of his chest as it had been simmering for a while. I may not be Selman's target gal (as I noted on Instagram, a seriously banging body required for all these slippery silks and high-thigh cuts) but I'm definitely interested to see what else could bubble up in his retro-sexual state of mind.
Hitler’s bodyguard dead at 96
He was Adolf Hitler's devoted bodyguard for most of World War II and the last remaining witness to the Nazi leader's final hours in his Berlin bunker. To the very end, SS Staff Sgt. Rochus Misch was proud of it all.
For years, he accompanied Hitler nearly everywhere he went, sticking by the man he affectionately called "boss" until the dictator and his wife, Eva Braun, killed themselves as defeat at the hands of the Allies drew nearer. The loyal SS officer remained in what he called the "coffin of concrete" for days after Hitler's death, finally escaping as Berlin crumbled around him and the Soviets swarmed the city.
Even in his later years, during a 2005 interview with The Associated Press in which he recounted Hitler's claustrophobic, chaotic final days, Misch still cut the image of an SS man. He had a rigid posture, broad shoulders, neatly combed white hair — and no apologies for his close relationship with the most reviled man of the 20th century.
"He was no brute. He was no monster. He was no superman," Misch said.

Syria Protests Planned Nationwide
We are non-violently protesting the escalation of US military involvement in Syria, as well as the complete disregard of the will of the American people in the decision to begin a new war. We in no way support the actions of the Assad regime, but are concerned that US intervention will instigate more violence and suffering. We are all guaranteed our right to protest freely, nevertheless, we will be operating under the guidelines that we do NOT interfere with pedestrians or cars (Times Square can be a busy place) and we will not be using sound amplifiers. In Washington DC, anti-war activists will gather outside the White House.
Now is the time for the people to step up pressure on Congress and demand that they vote NO to any resolution authorizing a military attack on Syria. On Saturday, September 7, people are descending on Washington, D.C., for a march from the White House to Congress for a major demonstration as Congress returns to Washington, D.C., and prepares to vote. This demonstration is initiated by a broad ad hoc coalition called the Vote No War Against Syria Coalition.Demonstrations are also planned for Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, Houston, Minneapolis, San Francisco, and many smaller cities.
Japan says Fukushima radiation levels are “lethal”
The Japanese government has announced plans to build a $470 million frozen wall around the reactors at Fukushima in an attempt to stem the radioactive water emanating from the nuclear plant. Radiation levels in the water are at lethal levels––strong enough to deliver a fatal dose within hours and higher than previously thought. There are approximately 300 tons of contaminated water leaking into the ocean each day.
