Noitamina Anime Movie to Adapt Project Itoh's Sci-Fi Novels

by Scott Green

Following Psycho-Pass, the next anime movie from Noitamina will be an adaptation of the work of Satoshi Itō, a sci-fi novelist who wrote under the name Project Itoh, and who passed away in 2009 at age 34.

Staff has not been announced for the 2015 feature

Viz's Haikasoru sci-fi prose label, which publishes the novels in English, describes the source material...

Harmony

In the future, Utopia has finally been achieved thanks to medical nanotechnology and a powerful ethic of social welfare and mutual consideration. This perfect world isn't that perfect though, and three young girls stand up to totalitarian kindness and super-medicine by attempting suicide via starvation. It doesn't work, but one of the girls—Tuan Kirie—grows up to be a member of the World Health Organization. As a crisis threatens the harmony of the new world, Tuan rediscovers another member of her suicide pact, and together they must help save the planet...from itself.

Genocidal Organ

The war on terror exploded, literally, the day Sarajevo was destroyed by a homemade nuclear device. The leading democracies have transformed into total surveillance states, and the developing world has drowned under a wave of genocides. The mysterious American John Paul seems to be behind the collapse of the world system, and it’s up to intelligence agent Clavis Shepherd to track John Paul across the wreckage of civilizations and to find the true heart of darkness—a genocidal organ.

Project Itoh also novelized Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker was dedicated to his memory.

Metal Gear's Hideo Kojima...

Get ready to fall in love with Veronica Mars all over again

by Charlie Jane Anders
Get ready to fall in love with Veronica Mars all over again

Veronica Mars was a teen sleuth whose superpower was storytelling. She was adroit at making up clever lies and crafting fake identities, but it was always in the service of piecing together the truth — which was another story she constructed. Now she's starring in a big crowd-funded movie, which turns out to be about how we keep stories alive long after they seem gone and forgotten.

Oklahoma Fox station cuts evolution from 'Cosmos' by editing only 15 seconds

by David
Alainmendez

Booo.

Oklahoma Fox station cuts evolution from 'Cosmos' by editing only 15 seconds

In what appeared to be an editing error, a Fox affiliate in Oklahoma managed to remove the only mention of evolution from Sunday night's Cosmos science documentary by cutting only 15 seconds from the broadcast.

The much-anticipated reboot of Carl Sagan's legendary Cosmos premiered on Sunday with an overview of the history of the Universe, from the Big Bang to the advent of humans.

It wasn't until the last 10 minutes of the show that host Neil deGrasse Tyson hinted at human evolution.

"We are newcomers to the Cosmos," he explained. "Our own story only begins on the last night of the cosmic year."

"Three and a half million years ago, our ancestors -- your and mine left these traces," Tyson said, pointing to footprints. "We stood up and parted ways from them. Once we were standing on two feet, our eyes were no longer fixated on the ground. Now, we were free to look up and wonder."

But for viewers of KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City, that 15 second paragraph was replaced by an awkwardly-inserted commercial for the evening news. The edit was caught on video and uploaded to YouTube by Adam Bates.

At least one of the segments advertised in the news promo -- a story about a 12-year-old bow hunter -- did air on that evening's newscast.

Watch the original Cosmos clip below:

Select Barnes & Noble Locations to Begin Gunpla Model Kit Sales in April

by Humberto Saabedra

The US distributor for Bandai's Hobby merchandise in Bluefin Distribution has announced that it will begin stocking 400 select Barnes & Noble locations with Gunpla model kits beginning in April. The models making up the initial retail rollout will vary between Gundam Wing, Gundam UC and Gundam Build Fighters kits, as well as ancillary models.

The addition of new sales locations follows a test program in 2013 to determine the sales viability of Gunpla models through the bookstores, and many locations will also feature a prominent showcase for their inventory with assembled models of different types and grades.

Build Fighters Gunpla

As Barnes & Noble continues to struggle with weak book sales in its retail stores, it has turned its attention to increasing its non-book merchandise in order to drive retail sales. The expansion of the Gunpla program also means that the demand is there for Gunpla model sales outside of the typical hobby shop setting, another type of specialty store that has also seen its own share of struggles over the years due to the declining popularity of model building outside of specific niches and the ease of online shopping.

Gunpla logo

With that said, would any of you go to a Barnes & Noble location to buy Gunpla, or will you stick to online sales or hobby shops, if you're lucky to have one left in your town?

Crunchyroll Manga Adds Moyoco Anno Titles

by Patrick Macias

Crunchyroll Manga’s ever-growing library of titles and talents take a major step forward with the addition of three titles from master artist Moyoco Anno of Sakuran fame.

First up is Anno's Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen

(Starts with chapter 1, and simulpub will start from chapter 2, which will be announced at a later date due to the irregularity of the Japanese schedule.)

Story

Perverts are people who know the shape of their desires. They have carefully traced those contours like a blind man using both hands to measure the shape of a vase. Colette works in a brothel in early 20th century Paris, an occupation she can't escape. She and the other girls support each other, satisfying the desires of their clients, day in, day out. The one source of hope in her difficult life was her trysts with Leon. But Colette could never be sure if Leon really loved her... The strength of women in their pleasurable confines; the naked desires of the 'amorous gentlemen.'

Welcome to a beautiful, bewitching bordello of love and desire...

Next is Buffalo 5 Girls, a one shot by Anno available in all its entirety.

Story

The girls are sold as prostitutes in the towns that dot the arid desert. Each of them is forced to receive the lusts of men for their own reasons, and each of them fall in love. They have men they are in love with, but prostitutes aren't free to choose who they love. "Love or life, which is more important to you?" "I pick love." "But you can't be in love if you're dead." Is there a way for these women to survive in a world filled with lust and violence? One day, Candy and Susie run from the brothel, seeking the freedom they can never hand. "We are stronger creatures!" Obey your instincts— the voice from within!

Completing Crunchyroll Manga's Moyoco Anno trilogy is The Diary of Ochibi-san

(Starts with volumes 1 and 2, and will be launching the simulpub chapters once the catalog is caught up.)

Story

"I can help you laugh, but I can't take away the tears you've shed."

In Mametsubu-cho, a town somewhere in the ancient Japanese city of Kamakura, Ochibi-san lives a relaxed, easy life. With his friend Nazeni the dog, Jack the naughty kitten, and Pankui the hungry dog, Ochibi-san's year in Mametsubu-cho is filled with encounters and new discoveries! Flower-viewing in spring, swimming in summer, collecting leaves in fall, and eating yummy food in winter. The changing seasons are drawn with a light touch.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL! Crunchyroll Manga has also added Investor Z by Norifusa Mita

(launches with chapter 1)

Story

Mita Norifusa, whose "Dragon Zakura" started a revolution in Japan's world of entrance exams, now brings you another school-drama manga about stock investments!

Zaizen Takashi passes his entrance exams at the top of the heap, and starts his first year in junior high school at Dojuku Gakuen, a 130-year old super-advanced institute of higher education. The day after the entrance ceremony, "the secret" of the school is revealed to him, which concerns the existence of an "investment club," consisting only of the top student from each of the 6 grades.

Its club members have a mission. They must invest from a capital of 300-billion yen and yield a profit of 8%, which is their annual goal. This is why Dojuku Gakuen, boasting the highest standards of education in all of Japan, is tuition free.

"The most exciting game in the world. The ultimate game of ultimate thrill… In other words, money… Investments!" Here begins the story of the genius Zaizen, who bets the entirety of his youth on money. Learn, Zaizen... and make a bundle!!

Check 'em all out now at Crunchyroll Manga!

Hello Vertical would it be possible to obtain "A Certain Magical Index". I'm have no clue how the stuff between Square Enix and Yen Press works but I seen that Heroman was published by Square Enix so thought I would ask if you could obtain Index. I know it's 12 volumes and still going but unlike most manga this one is not a risk. It's counterpart "A Certain Scientific Railgun" sells very well and makes the NY Times best seller list every volume and every fan of Railgun that I know wants Index.

If the series is over 10 volumes it would not qualify, though.
