OpenAI und Deepmind: Algorithmus soll zu mehr Sicherheit bei künstlicher Intelligenz führen

Der Begriff bestärkendes Lernen kommt aus dem Bereich des maschinellen Lernens und bezeichnet Verfahren, bei denen eine künstliche Intelligenz (KI) selbstständig eine Strategie entwickelt, um ihre vom System festgelegte Belohnung zu maximieren. Dadurch soll das Lernverhalten aus der Natur nachgebildet werden. Der Vorteil: Die KI lernt selbstständig dazu und muss nicht von Menschen trainiert werden.

Allerdings kann das bestärkende Lernen auch zu Fehlern führen, wenn das Ziel nicht ausreichend klar definiert wurde. Solche Fehler könnten, je nach Einsatzgebiet, in Zukunft dramatische Konsequenzen haben. Jetzt haben Wissenschaftler mit der von Elon Musk, Sam Altman und anderen Tech-Größen ins Leben gerufenen Non-Profit-Organisation OpenAI gemeinsam mit Googles Deepmind-Team eine mögliche Lösung für dieses Problem vorgestellt.

OpenAI und Deepmind wollen KIs durch minimalen menschlichen Aufwand sicherer machen

Vereinfacht ausgedrückt funktioniert die Methode wie folgt: Der Nutzer bekommt jeweils zwei mögliche Lösungsvorschläge von der KI mittgeteilt und entscheidet sich jeweils für den Besseren. In Versuchen soll es ausgereicht haben, der KI in nur einem Prozent der Zeit, in der sie mit ihrer Umgebung interagiert hat, menschliches Feedback zu geben, um das gewünschte Ergebnis zu erreichen. Menschen müssen also nur wenig Zeit aufbringen, um etwaige Fehler beim Verhalten der KI zu verhindern.

Wer sich für die Thematik interessiert, der kann einen Blick auf das Paper mit dem Titel „Deep reinforcement learning from human preferences“ werfen. Um besser verstehen zu können, was das OpenAI-Team und die Google-Wissenschaftler mit möglichen Gefahren meinen, lohnt sich außerdem die Lektüre des 2016 veröffentlichten Papers „Concrete Problems in AI Safety“.

I recently ran into an article by Pieter Wigleven, based on an original idea of Jan Van Meirvenne that I simply have to share, and expand upon.

When you go cloud first, and do light MDM management of your Azure AD Joined Windows 10 devices, you will likely enable a Bitlocker policy in Intune. What you’ll quickly discover, is that your policy will not automatically enforce/enable Bitlocker on non-InstantGo capable devices.

So, I expanded upon Jan and Pieter’s script to automatically enable Bitlocker on Windows 10; it has additional error handling, local logging and it will eject removable drives prior to immediately (vs reboot) encrypting your system drive. After this is started, it will register your recovery key in AzureAD. Of course all credit for the original idea goes to Jan van Meirvenne.

As Intune won’t let you deploy a Powershell script, I’ve also wrapped the script in an MSI file with Advanced Installer for you. What this will do;

1. Deploy the PS1 file to the machine
2. Register a scheduled task to run this PS1 file at logon each time
3. Kick off the scheduled task once so a first reboot isn’t required

Nicht jeder Telekom-Mobilfunkkunde nutzt einen Tarif mit inkludierter EU-Roaming-Option. Betroffene Nutzer betroffen ab sofort automatisch von "Roam like at Home".

Vor einigen Tagen war ich an einem Amtsgericht im Osten Deutschlands. Die lange Anreise bedingte, dass ich einen Zeitpuffer mitbrachte. Den nutzte ich, um schon mal etwas vom Verhandlungsstil des Richters zu schnuppern. Es wurde ein trauriges Schauspiel, was allerdings an einer anderen Hauptperson lag.

Die Angeklagte, deren kleines Unternehmen den Bach runtergegangen war und die viel zu lange davor die Augen verschlossen hatte, erschien mit einem Urteilsbegleiter an ihrer Seite. Es fällt mir schwer, bei dessen Performance zuzugeben, dass diese Begleitperson auch ein Rechtsanwalt war. Der Kollege erklärte nichts, relativierte nichts, sprang seiner Mandantin nicht zur Seite. Vielmehr saß er nur da und schaute uninspiriert in die Gegend, während sich die Angeklagte um Kopf und Kragen redete. Als die Frau während ihrer Aussage in Tränen ausbrach, legte er ihr immerhin die Hand auf die Schulter. „Sie haben es ja gleich überstanden, das wird schon.“

Kein einziges Mal machte der Anwalt den Versuch, vielleicht eine Einstellung des Verfahrens – zum Beispiel gegen eine Geldauflage – hinzukriegen. Stattdessen hielt er lediglich ein flauschiges Plädoyer, welches definitiv nicht von Faktenkenntnis getrübt war. Ebenso wenig von sich aufdrängenden Worten über die juristischen Klippen, die sich gerade bei Insolvenzstraftaten für einen Richter auftun, der ein solides Urteil sprechen will.

Am Ende des Plädoyers noch ein echter Knaller: „Die 120 Tagessätze, die der Herr Staatsanwalt gefordert hat, gehen insgesamt in Ordnung.“ Äh, ja. 120 Tagessätze sind für eine kleine Insolvenzgeschichte nun wirklich kein Pappenstiel, zumal wenn man wie die Frau keine Vorstrafen mitbringt. Zu allem Überfluss verzichtete der Anwalt auch nach dem Urteil noch eilfertig auf Rechtsmittel.

Ich dachte insgesamt, ich bin im falschen Film. Oder war es möglicherweise so, dass der Richter sowieso ein harter Hund ist, bei dem man rein gar nichts erreichen kann? Meine Informationen waren eigentlich, der Richter ist etwas spröde, aber in Sachfragen durchaus zugänglich. Gut, wir versuchten es einfach mal.

Den Angeklagten ließ ich nicht selbst reden, sondern gab für ihn eine gestraffte Stellungnahme ab. Und zwar auch zu den komplizierten Rechtsfragen, die sich in solchen Fällen immer ergeben. Dann noch ein paar Worte zu schweren privaten Schicksalsschlägen, welche die Aufmerksamkeit des Angeklagten von seiner Firma weggelenkt hatten.

Kaum war dem Richter klar, dass es ohne einen weiteren Verhandlungstermin (mit zusätzlichen Zeugen, vielleicht sogar einem Sachverständigen) nicht gehen würde, wagte ich den Vorstoß und fragte, ob man nicht auch mal über eine Einstellung nachdenken kann. Viel Hoffnung hatte ich aufgrund der vorhergehenden Verhandlung nicht. Vermutlich war der betreffende Kollege einfach nur Realist. Aber siehe da, der Richter griff meine Anregung auf. Der Staatsanwalt zierte sich erst pflichtgemäß ein wenig, dann war aber auch er mit im Boot. Das Verfahren wurde gegen Zahlung einer sehr sozialverträglichen Geldauflage eingestellt…

Der Witz an der Sache ist, dass mein Mandant im Vergleich zur vorherigen Angeklagten definitiv die schlechteren Voraussetzungen mitbrachte. Wenn wir eine Einstellung kriegten, hätte diese für die Frau noch viel eher im Raum gelegen. Aber es hat ja keiner für sie daran gearbeitet. Das wird sie allerdings nie erfahren…

Cumulative Update 6 (CU6) for Exchange Server 2016 will be released soon^TM, but before that happens, I wanted to make you aware of a behavior change in item recovery that is shipping in CU6.  Hopefully this information will aid you in your planning, testing, and deployment of CU6.

Item Recovery

Prior to Exchange 2010, we had the Dumpster 1.0, which was essentially a view stored per folder. Items in the dumpster stayed in the folder where they were soft-deleted (shift-delete or delete from Deleted Items) and were stamped with the ptagDeletedOnFlag flag. These items were special-cased in the store to be excluded from normal Outlook views and quotas. This design also meant that when a user wanted to recover the item, it was restored to its original folder.

With Exchange 2010, we moved away from Dumpster 1.0 and replaced it with the Recoverable Items folder. I discussed the details of that architectural shift in the article, Single Item Recovery in Exchange 2010. The Recoverable Items architecture created several benefits: deleted items moved with the mailbox, deleted items were indexable and discoverable, and facilitated both short-term and long-term data preservation scenarios.

As a reminder, the following actions can be performed by a user:

• A user can perform a soft-delete operation where the item is deleted from an Inbox folder and moved to the Deleted Items folder. The Deleted Items folder can be emptied either manually by the user, or automatically via a Retention Policy. When data is removed from the Deleted Items folder, it is placed in the Recoverable Items\Deletions folder.
• A user can perform a hard-delete operation where the item is deleted from an Inbox folder and moved to the Recoverable Items\Deletions folder, bypassing the Deleted Items folder entirely.
• A user can recover items stored in the Recoverable Items\Deletions folder via recovery options in Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the web

However, this architecture has a drawback – items cannot be recovered to their original folders.

Many of you have voiced your concerns around this limitation in the Recoverable Items architecture, through various feedback mechanisms, like at Ignite 2015 in Chicago where we had a panel that included the Mailbox Intelligence team (those who own backup, HA, DR, search, etc.). Due to your overwhelming feedback, I am pleased to announce that beginning with Exchange 2016 CU6, items can be recovered to their original folders!

How does it work?

1. When an item is deleted (soft-delete or hard-delete) it is stamped with the LastActiveParentEntryID (LAPEID) MAPI property (property ID 348A). By using the folder ID, it does not matter if the folder is moved in the mailbox’s hierarchy or renamed.
2. When the user attempts a recovery action, the LAPEID is used as the move destination endpoint.

The LAPEID stamping mechanism has been in place since Exchange 2016 Cumulative Update 1. This means that as soon as you install CU6, your users can recover items to their original folders!

Soft-Deletion:

 

Hard-Deletion

Are there limitations?

Yes, there are limitations.

First, to use this functionality, the user’s mailbox must be on a Mailbox server that has CU6 installed. The user must also use Outlook on the web to recover to the original folder; neither Outlook for Windows or Outlook for Mac support this functionality, today.

If an item does not have an LAPEID stamped, then the item will be recovered to its folder type origin – Inbox for mail items, Calendar for calendar items, Contacts for contact items, and Tasks for task items. How could an item not have an LAPEID? Well, if the item was deleted before CU1 was installed, it won’t have an LAPEID.

And lastly, this feature does not recover deleted folders. It only recovers items to folders that still exist within the user’s mailbox hierarchy. Once a folder is deleted, recovery will be to the folder type origin for that item.

Summary

Last week, Apple took the wraps off iOS 11, their next major release for iPhones and iPads. We’ve been exploring the developer preview and pouring through documentation to see what’s new. There are several changes we wanted to highlight for our users. In short, you should expect to be more productive with your iOS devices, and have more immersive experiences in the future.

Password App AutoFill

Apple took steps in iOS 11 to make it easier to log into native apps. The feature only uses credentials saved to your iCloud Keychain, however, so it requires you to have saved passwords from Safari. Although this new feature doesn’t support third-party password managers like LastPass at this time, we’re encouraged to see a company like Apple acknowledge what a pain it is to log in to apps and deliver new ways to make it easier.

The LastPass iOS extension will still help you sign in to over 200 popular apps, as well as any website in Safari or Chrome.

True Multitasking

Apple has invested a lot of effort to refine its multitasking experience in iOS 11. Whether you’ve got two apps running in Split Screen or in Slide Over, both apps remain active simultaneously. In fact you can combine Split Screen, Slide Over, and Picture-in-Picture to run up to 4 apps at once. Apple even remembers how you’ve laid out your apps, similarly to how Spaces works on macOS. The new Drag and Drop experience enables more fluid interactions between these apps, too.

For LastPass users, these improvements will help you stay more productive while you work or browse the web. If you like to bring LastPass in via Slide Over to grab items from your vault, LastPass won’t lock when you switch focus back to the other app.

Scan and Save Documents

If you keep contracts or receipts stored as attachments in your vault, you’re going to love the new Document Scanner. From the Notes app in iOS 11, you can take a photo of a document, and Apple will automatically crop the image, remove glare, and fix any perspective or tilt issues, making it easy for you to fill out the page or add a digital signature before you send or save it.

Working with Screenshots

We know a lot of you work in technology, so you probably take a lot of screenshots. In iOS 11, Apple has introduced an entirely new workflow for annotating and sharing these images. After you grab your screenshot, it minimizes to a thumbnail in the corner of the screen for a few moments. Tapping the thumbnail opens a new edit mode that lets you mark up and draw over the screenshot before you save or share it. We know we’re going to make frequent use of this feature around the office.

There are loads of other features, such as the new iPad dock, Apple Pay in Messages, the new Files app, and new frameworks like CoreML and ARKit. Like you, we’re excited to see what other developers do with these amazing new capabilities.

iOS 11 will be available as a free update in Fall 2017. If you can’t wait that long, a public beta will begin later this summer. We’re looking forward to incorporating some of iOS 11’s new features and capabilities into future updates for LastPass.

On May 12, 2017, the WannaCrypt ransomware served as an all too real example of the danger of cyber attacks to individuals and businesses globally.

In reviewing the updates for this month, some vulnerabilities were identified that pose elevated risk of cyber attacks by government organizations, sometimes referred to as nation-state actors or other copycat organizations. To address this risk, today we are providing additional security updates along with our regular Update Tuesday service. These security updates are being made available to all customers, including those using older versions of Windows. Due to the elevated risk for destructive cyber attacks at this time, we made the decision to take this action because applying these updates provides further protection against potential attacks with characteristics similar to WannaCrypt. It is important to note that if you’re running a supported version of Windows, such as Windows 10 or Windows 8.1, and you have Windows Update enabled, you don’t need to take any action. Older systems, even if fully up-to-date, lack the latest security features and advancements.

Update 6/15/2017: Added a clarification that .Net Framework 4.7 has shipped and that we are still validating this release with Exchange Server.

We wanted to post a quick note to call out that our friends in .NET have released the .NET Framework 4.7 to Windows Update for client and server operating systems it supports.

We are in the process of validating Exchange Server on the .NET Framework 4.7, but the work is not yet complete. We will be sure to release additional information and update the Exchange supportability matrix when .NET Framework 4.7 is supported with Exchange Server. We are working with the .NET team to ensure that Exchange customers have a smooth transition to .NET Framework 4.7, but in the meantime, please delay this particular .NET update on your Exchange servers. Information on how this block can be accomplished can be found in article 4024204, How to temporarily block the installation of the .NET Framework 4.7.

It’s too late, I installed it. What do I do now?

If .NET Framework 4.7 was already installed, we recommend you back to .NET Framework 4.6.2 Here are the steps:

Note: These instructions assume you are running the latest Exchange 2016 Cumulative Update or the latest Exchange 2013 Cumulative Update as well as .NET Framework 4.6.2 prior to the upgrade to .NET Framework 4.7 at the time this article was drafted. If you were running a version of .NET Framework other than 4.6.2 or an older version of Exchange prior to the upgrade of .NET Framework 4.7, then please refer to the Exchange Supportability Matrix to validate what version of .NET Framework you need to roll back to and update the steps below accordingly. This may mean using different offline/web installers or looking for different names in Windows Update based on the version of .NET Framework you are attempting to roll back to if it is something other than .NET Framework 4.6.2.

1. If the server has already updated to .NET Framework 4.7 and has not rebooted yet, then reboot now to allow the installation to complete.

2. Stop all running services related to Exchange.  You can run the following cmdlet from Exchange Management Shell to accomplish this:

(Test-ServiceHealth).ServicesRunning | %{Stop-Service $_ -Force}

3. Depending on your operating system you may be looking for slightly different package names to uninstall .NET Framework 4.7.  Uninstall the appropriate update.  Reboot when prompted.

• On Windows 7 SP1 / Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, you will see the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7 as an installed product under Programs and Features in Control Panel.
• On Windows Server 2012 you can find this as Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3186505) under Installed Updates in Control Panel.
• On Windows 8.1 / Windows Server 2012 R2 you can find this as Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3186539) under Installed Updates in Control Panel.

4. After rebooting check the version of the .NET Framework and verify that it is again showing version 4.6.2.  You may use this method to determine what version of .NET Framework is installed on a machine. If it shows a version prior to 4.6.2 go to Windows Update, check for updates, and install .NET Framework 4.6.2.  If .NET Framework 4.6.2 is no longer being offered via Windows Update, then you may need to use the Offline Installer or the Web Installer. Reboot when prompted.  If the machine does show .NET Framework 4.6.2 proceed to step 5.

5. After confirming .NET Framework 4.6.2 is again installed, stop Exchange services using the command from step 2.  Then, run a repair of .NET 4.6.2 by downloading the offline installer, running setup, and choosing the repair option.  Reboot when setup is complete.

6. Apply any security updates specifically for .NET 4.6.2 by going to Windows update, checking for updates, and installing any security updates found.  Reboot after installation.

7. After reboot verify that the .NET Framework version is 4.6.2 and that all security updates are installed.

Powerplay: Logitech baut kabellose Ladelösung direkt ins Mauspad

Logitech hat eigenen Angaben zufolge vier Jahre an der neuen Ladetechnologie entwickelt, die sogar Gamer-Ansprüchen gerecht werden soll. Die neue Lösung sei genauso Latenzfrei wie eine kabelgebundene Maus – und das ohne die lästigen Kabel.

Die Powerplay-Matte ist 275 x 320 Millimeter groß, die integrierte Ladelösung ist eine Eigenentwicklung von Logitech – das Unternehmen habe sich bewusst gegen die verbreitete Wireless-Qi-Technologie entschieden, da damit nicht die komplette Fläche des Mauspads als Ladestation genutzt werden könnte, so das Unternehmen gegenüber The Verge.

Kompatible Mäuse werden nicht nur aufgeladen, wenn sie auf dem Mauspad liegen, sondern auch während der Benutzung. Für eine solide Funkverbindung zwischen Maus und Rechner steckt ein sogenannter Lightspeed-Receiver an der Basis der Matte. Die Signalstärke sei 16 Mal höher als die der Konkurrenz, Probleme mit Interferenzen sollen durch einen „Frequency-Agility-Mechanism“ nicht vorkommen.

Logitech kündigt neue kompatible Mäuse für Powerplay an

Passend zur Powerplay-Matte hat Logitech zwei neue kompatible Mäuse angekündigt: die G903 und die G703. Für die Verbindung mit dem drahtlosen Mauspad lässt sich in die Unterseite der Mäuse ein sogenanntes Powercore-Modul einlegen, das für den kabellosen Energietransfer sorgt.

Die neuen Produkte wurden bisher nur für den US-Markt angekündigt, auf Nachfrage bei Logitech werden die Powerplay-Produkte auch auf den deutschen Mart kommen. Die neuen Mäuse sollen noch im Juni zum Preis von 149,99 respektive 99,99 US-Dollar erhältlich sein. Ab August soll die Powerplay-Matte in den Handel kommen – der Preis: 99,99 US-Dollar.

Die markanten Google-Roboterwagen aus eigener Entwicklung des Internet-Konzerns werden nach rund drei Jahren auf der Straße ausgemustert. Die kleinen elektrischen Zweisitzer seien von Anfang an zum Experimentieren und nicht für die Massenproduktion gedacht gewesen, betonten Manager der Google-Schwesterfirma Waymo bei der Ankündigung des Schritts in der Nacht zum Dienstag. Waymo konzentriere sich künftig darauf, ihre Roboterwagen-Technologie in Fahrzeuge anderer Hersteller zu integrieren. Aktuell werden über 500 Pacifica-Minivans von Fiat Chrysler damit ausgerüstet. Familien in Arizona sollen sie testweise im Alltag nutzen.

Google will kein Autohersteller sein

Die Vorstellung der eigenen Google-Wagen hatte 2014 die Autoindustrie aufhorchen lassen. Der Internet-Konzern hatte zwar schon damals betont, man wolle nicht selbst zum Autohersteller werden. Aber die kugeligen Fahrzeuge mit ihrer freundlichen Smiley-Frontpartie konnten als Prototyp für ein Robotertaxi-Netzwerk in Städten gesehen werden. Google verkündete zudem die Absicht, in den Wagen mit der Zeit ganz ohne klassische Steuerelemente wie Lenkrad oder Pedale auszukommen und die Kontrolle ganz dem Computer zu überlassen. Dazu kam es im regulären Testbetrieb nicht: Die Behörden betonten, dass sie derzeit noch Lenkräder und Pedale für unverzichtbar halten. Aber zum Beispiel in einer Testfahrt im Jahr 2015 in Austin in Texas war einer der Google-Roboterwagen komplett autonom unterwegs, ohne dass ein Mensch hätte eingreifen können.

Nur eingeschränkter Komfort bei den Prototypen

In der Spitze waren rund 70 Prototypen mit dem Namen „Firefly“ auf der Straße in der Google-Heimatstadt Mountain View sowie in Austin in Texas unterwegs. Sie boten allerdings nur eingeschränkten Komfort und hatten eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von rund 40 Kilometern pro Stunde, was oft andere Fahrer irritierte. Nachdem Ende 2016 die Entwicklung der Roboterwagen unter der Führung der erfahrenen Automanagers John Krafcik in die Google-Schwesterfirma Waymo ausgelagert wurde, zeichnete sich bereits ab, dass der Fokus künftig auf dem Einbau der Technik in Fahrzeuge anderer Hersteller liegen wird. dpa

Apple verstärkt die Sicherheit bei seinen beiden Betriebssystemen: Sowohl in iOS 11 als auch in macOS High Sierra wird die Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung zur Pflicht.

Apple bietet seit geraumer Zeit eine Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung (2FA) für die Apple-ID an. Mit dieser könnt ihr euer Konto um eine zusätzliche Sicherheitsbarriere erweitern, um sie vor dem Zugriff Dritter besser abzuschotten.

Bislang ist diese Art des Kontoschutzes nur optional – das ändert sich aber mit den anstehenden Updates auf iOS 11 und macOS High Sierra. Das Unternehmen versendet aktuell Mails an erste Nutzer der aktuellen Beta-Versionen mit der Information, dass die Apple-ID-Konten automatisch um eine Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung erweitert werden, berichtet Macerkopf, denen besagte E-Mail vorliegt.

Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung für iOS 11 und macOS wird bequemer

Aus der E-Mail geht weiter hervor, dass Apples Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung für die sichere Nutzung einiger neuer Funktionen von iOS 11, macOS High Sierra und der iCloud erforderlich sei.

Bei Apples 2FA werden Verifizierungs-Codes für den Authentifizierungs-Prozess auf vertrauenswürdigen Geräten bei der Anmeldung automatisch auf dem Bildschirm angezeigt. Für die Nutzung der Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung sei es nicht mehr erforderlich Backup-Codes analog zu sichern – bisher sei dies der Fall gewesen, falls man das Passwort vergessen haben sollte. Durch die überarbeitete Anmeldemethode dürfte sich die Nutzung der Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung als bequemer erweisen als bisher. Die Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung wird nicht selten als umständlich und lästig angesehen  – wer aber seine Konten vor Dritten schützen will, sollte die zusätzliche Sicherheits-Ebene einbauen.

Wer seine Konten noch nicht per Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung gesichert haben sollte, dem empfehlen wir, es bald möglichst nachzuholen. Außer Apple bieten die meisten größeren Dienste eine entsprechende Absicherung: Neben Google, Facebook, Paypal und Dropbox, bieten Whatsapp, Instagram und sogar Amazon und viele weitere eine 2FA.
