The Expansion of the Universe and Your Waistline

by John Farrier

The universe is gradually expanding over time, growing larger and larger with each passing moment. You may have noticed that your own body is expanding, too. This is not a coincidence. When your body expands, acquiring additional volume and mass, it’s because of a basic, inescapable physical phenomenon.

Don’t blame yourself—or blame anything else. What’s happening to you is a natural process, as Cyanide & Happiness explains.

The Cube and time

Apparently all cultures are connected through the same ancient origins and the evidence is revealed
through comparative analysis of symbolism and mythology/legend.
The "Saturn / Cronus" figure is the "God" of all religions-mythologies.
That includes all male and female deities, because IT is a Hermaphrodite of Duality.

Stan Lee and Avi Arad Developing Secret Movie at Sony

by Germain Lussier

Amazing Spider-Man 2 Stan Lee

Briefly: Very little is know right now but Stan Lee, the creator of Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Avengers and so many others, is making a secret movie with Amazing Spider-Man producer Avi Arad. The project, currently set up at Sony and on the search for producers and a writer, is being kept under wraps so there’s no clue if it’s a superhero film or not. All Arad would say on the topic is “Some titles give away too much.” This is one we’ll definitely keep an eye on. [The Hollywood Reporter]

The 2013 Saxxy Award Nominees Have Been Announced!

You voted. We counted the votes. More accurately, we watched while a computer programmed to count votes counted all the votes. Then, just when we were thinking it had been a while, and maybe the computer was broken, bam. It spit out a card with the 2013 Saxxy nominees punched into it. Then it spit out confetti. Then it self-destructed from all the pageantry. Then—you know what, there were about thirty-seven more things that happened, but we're looking at them now and most of them involve us trying to fix the vote-counting computer, so let's skip to the part where the nominees are live, at sourcefilmmaker.com, for your viewing pleasure!

We've also posted a list of this year's Honorable Mentions, so give them a look too! Or, if you don't feel like reading, why not wait for the honorable mentioning robot to come to your town and read them to you as part of his cross-country Honor Mentioning tour? Nevermind, he just broke trying to open the door.

Rodent punishment in China

by biotv

Animal cruelty of the day: Three mice are tied up to and 'paraded publicly' on a street tree in Chengdu because they steal vegetables:
The picture, taken by Shuangliu police near their office in Chengdu city, Sichuan province Friday afternoon, shows three mice (or rats) were tied up to a tree, accompanied by a notice sticking on one of the mice 'confessing: I was wrong, I repent’, Sichuan Online reported.

The police, amused by the scene, published the picture on their verified Weibo account @平安双流 at 1:24 pm on Friday.

According to Sichuan Online, the rats were captured by an employee named Liu Junjiang in a local advertisement company. Liu and his colleagues found some rats often run around in their newly refurbished office, steal vegetables, and even gnaw through the cable. On Friday, they managed to capture three rats and after a discussion, they decided to publicly parade them on a tree on the street.

The rats, after drawing national attention, have been untied from the tree, caged and sent to the countryside and a “cat police would handle (eat) them”, according to the Sichuan Online.

Move Over Graphene: The Wonder Conductor of the Future May Be Stanene

When it comes to super materials, graphene seems to get all the attention. But a team of researchers has developed Stanene: a single layer of tin atoms that could just be the world’s first material to conduct electricity with 100 percent efficiency at the temperatures that computers work at.

Stone-Tipped Spears Predate the Human Race

Spears feel very much like a human weapon of war—so it's surprising to find out that, in fact, the stone-tipped projectiles pre-date our species by a bewildering 85,000 years.

Rockstar trademarked a Bully title

by Joshua Derocher

All Games Beta shared a trademark application filed by Rockstar for Bully Bullworth Academy: Canis Canem Edit, which is most likely going to be a Bully game. This could be just a re-release of the classic PlayStation 2 game, but even that would be awesome.

Back in July Take-Two Interactive filed a Bully related trademark, and Rockstar has said that it would be interested in another Bully game. I think the signs are pointing towards a new Bully game, and I would love to see it happen. The only thing I would be more excited about would be Max Payne 4, or maybe the long-awaited PC version of Red Dead Redemption.

Considerate iPhone Thief Returns Handwritten List of Stolen Contacts

What really sucks about losing your phone—besides losing the phone—is that you also lose a whole bunch of your data. But to help ease that pain, a iPhone thief in China copied down a list of all his victim's contacts (by hand!) and returned it to its rightful owner. All 1,000 of them.

Most of Dread Pirate Roberts' treasure still buried, say researchers

Is there a link from Silk Road to Bitcoin daddy Satoshi Nakamoto?

Lisa is a men-only apocalyptic horror comedy 2D RPG

by Jonathan Holmes

[Note: Footage is pre-alpha. Also, looks like I might be in the game now, so that's fun.]

Not long ago, we heard that The Last of Us was planned to take place in an apocalypse where nearly every woman on the planet had become an infected, murderous monster. The developers of the game rejected the idea because it was "misogynistic", but many in the comments were interested in the concept. What would happen to society if it was left with no women? What would an all male world with no future look like? What truths would come out?

Lisa looks to answer those questions. Created by martial artist Austin Jorgensen (who cites Streets of Rage and King of Fighters as inspirations), the game takes the same risk heavy, unflinching attitude towards design that one might take towards meeting an opponent in the squared circle. Jorgensen says- "I want the world of Lisa to be hard on the player... full of supernatural beings, weirdos, monsters, and just plain dumb people... a world full of drugs, violence and the decay of human intelligence". Selling information on potential allies to murderers, selling yourself for sex, even selling your limbs, no sacrifice is off limits in this world of desperate, big nipple'd men.

With graphics that look heavily inspired by Mother 3, the cute-to-disturbing ration here looks high on both ends. The game has about $5,000 to go on Kickstarter, with 20 days left in the campaign. Seeing that Dropsy  met its funding, maybe we can take Lisa on as the next disturbing and adorable underdog game to push into creation.
