The Time Travel In Syfy's 12 Monkeys Is Probably Not Going To Make Sense

by Charlie Jane Anders

Don't get me wrong — I'm still enjoying the hell out of 12 Monkeys. But last night's episode confirmed what I suspected from the pilot onwards. The time travel on this show is going to follow make-it-up-as-we-go-along rules, without much regard for logic. Typical television time travel, in other words.

Plans And Elevations: The Sims 4 Concept Art

by Philippa Warr

Don't you love it when...

EA have plopped a bunch of Build Mode concept art from The Sims 4 [official site] on their blog as part of an interview with designer Aaron Houts.

The interview itself has hints of excitement – there’s a misbehaving wall tool and automated door placement which sounds like it left you with a door-infested house with portals lurking in odd places. Alas, EA does not fancy sharing these monstrous houses and the interview itself is rather flat. BUT we have studies and swatches to look at which make me happy in a peaceful, diagrammatic way I remember from when I used to look at architectural floor plans as a child.

The Biggest Surprise In Syfy's 12 Monkeys Is The 12 Monkeys Themselves

by Charlie Jane Anders

The Biggest Surprise In Syfy's 12 Monkeys Is The 12 Monkeys Themselves

How do you turn an existentially comfortless movie about a futile journey from a post-apocalyptic future into the present day into an ongoing TV series? One way is to make the time travel less futile. But another is to create a really scary villain — and with its second episode, 12 Monkeys stars doing just that.

There's Something Horribly, Unspeakably Wrong With Picard's Uniform

by Rob Bricken

The old Star Trek: TNG joke is that even though its the 24th century, somehow Starfleet never discovered a cure for Picard's baldness. But apparently, they also couldn't even manage to give their highest-ranking officers uniforms that fit, as this amazing (and hilariously lengthy) supercut proves.

Old Hopes: Star Wars Rogue Squadron & Rebellion On GoG

by Alec Meer

Did anyone ever work out why they're called X-Wings?

Earlier this week, GoG exhumed the last remaining X-Wing games from Lucasarts; grave, and as promised they’ve now added more long time ago games to their good ol’ shelves. Most of them have been available from other download stores for quite some time, but it’s the first time on the digi-block for ponderous 4X Star Wars: Rebellion and spaceship shooter Rogue Squadron 3D.

Adventure-o! Watch An Hour Of Pillars Of Eternity

by Alice O'Connor

'venture!

What are adventurers’ bags and coats made of? I ask because watching an hour of Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity (which now has a release date: March 26th), I notice an awful lot of tongues being ripped out of dead monsters’ mouths and wings ripped from backs then stuffed into pockets, pouches, packs, and purses. I’d give a wide berth to anyone dripping with, and reeking of, old blood and flesh. You’ll see a whole lot more of isometric RPG adventuring in that hour, sure, but I can’t stop thinking about reaching into my pocket for my wallet and pulling out an old tongue.

Why Star Trek: Voyager Meant The World To Me

by Katharine Trendacosta
Euxinus

Ja l'he vist sencera, per fi.

Why Star Trek: Voyager Meant The World To Me

Twenty years ago today, Star Trek: Voyager premiered. Of the five live-action Star Trek series, Voyager is not the best. If you were ranking them, Voyager and Enterprise would probably duke it out for last place. But none of that matters, because Star Trek: Voyager meant everything to me as a child.

Civ: Beyond Earth & Saints Row IV Steam Free Weekends

by Alice O'Connor

Loading SR4 up to take a shot for this post, I was surprised by how sensible my Boss looks.

Civilization: Beyond Earth does have a demo, but it’s limited to 100 turns – not many to feel how a Civ game ticks. Given lukewarm responses to it, you might want to see more. Here’s your chance: the full game is free for everyone to play on Steam until Sunday evening. Saints Row IV is also running a free trial weekend but surely you already know whether you’d like to be a superpowered scamp flying around cyberspace and punching aliens. Both are on sale too.

New Baldur’s Gate Set Between 1 And 2 Coming This Year

by Alice O'Connor

Look, don't blame me for this being a photo of a screen.

Do you remember when Beamdog, the folks who’ve been revamping Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale, announced they were making a new Baldur’s Gate game? Do you remember – one set between the first two games and using the same dear old Infinity Engine? No, me neither. But, acting as if we all totally knew all along, they’ve now announced that it’ll launch this year. Beyond that, it’s a bit of a mystery, but gosh! An actual new Baldur’s Gate!
