Lionhead alumni turn to Kickstarter to fund 'Fable' card game

by Brittany Vincent

Lionhead Studios may have been shuttered, but that doesn't mean it's the end of the beloved Fable franchise. Flaming Fowl Studios, a studio created from the ashes of Lionhead's closing in March, is looking to revive the series, albeit in a very different format.

I could spend all day watching Sam Lake doing Sam Lake stuff

by Brett Makedonski

I guess the sticking point from this here video is that Remedy's working on putting an Alan Wake easter egg in Quantum Break. A responsible writer would've focused on that, maybe crafted an SEO-friendly headline, came up with something generally coherent and relevant to games.

Fuck that.

Look at Sam Lake pretend to be in the FBI! Look at him drink that coffee! Listen to him carefully recite lines from "Santa Claus is Coming to Town!" This man is a goddamn national treasure and I don't even care that he's from one of those almost-Scandinavian countries and not the United States. Sam, your altruistic resolution for 2016 is to do more stuff in videos and then to post those videos on the Internet.

News: PS4's new Vote To Play system lets you vote for your next PS Plus game

by contact@videogamer.com (David Scammell)
topcowraven

hopefully this will avoid months like august :)

Vote for your next freebie through your PS4.

Vote To Play will let users vote for the game they want the most from a selection of three unreleased titles, with the winner subsequently being released free to all PlayStation Plus members. The two runners-up will also be available to purchase from PlayStation Store at a discounted rate.

A video detailing the mechanic can be found in the What's New section of the PS4 dashboard, although it isn't yet clear when voting will begin.

The video also seems to suggest that PC adventure Grow Home may be coming to PS4, too, something that publisher Ubisoft has yet to...

Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain Are PS4 Bound

by Wesley Copeland

Quantic Dream’s Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain are coming to PlayStation 4 in Europe and PAL territories.

The news comes via the European PlayStation blog. At this point, there’s no details about a release window or whether both games will see a release outside of the aforementioned PAL regions. Needless to say, we’ve reached out to Sony and will update should we back.

Upon release, both games will be available digitally or as a discounted double pack.

In our review of Beyond: Two Souls we said it’s “compelling enough, principally thanks to a remarkable performance from Ellen Page,” before saying that “Playing Beyond is a memorable experience, yes, but a good video game it is not; and while the credits were rolling I admit to thinking I would have been happier to sit back and watch a movie version that was eight-and-a-half hours shorter.”

Fable Legends will be free-to-play on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs

by Chris Carter

Microsoft has just announced that Fable Legends will be free-to-play. Well, that's certainly an interesting way to go about it.

It will launch on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs, and requires Xbox Live Gold for the former. This will be the most "accessible" Fable iteration yet, and the entire story can be played for free, with a rotation of heroes and villains to play as. I just hope that they don't go overboard with microtransactions, and that a "full" game can be purchased somehow.

Seeing Microsoft embrace free-to-play more is a sign of the times. Initially it was resistant to it, only featuring a few games with the scheme, but with coaxing from developers like World of Tanks' Wargaming, Microsoft seems to be more receptive -- although, I'm sure the Gold requirement is still annoying for some.

Review: The Order: 1886

by Chris Carter

The Order: 1886 opens up in a fairly gritty fashion -- a first-person sequence involving a near drowning, by way of water torture. It begins with a bang, thrusting you into this unknown, and frankly frightening world where half-breed creatures live among humans.

It's cinematic and gripping, and draws you into the world that Ready at Dawn and Sony have crafted together. But it doesn't really push the envelope from there, as the cinematic angle is prevalent in nearly every facet of the experience, often hindering gameplay.

News: PS4 custom backgrounds coming in future system update, says Rebellion

by contact@videogamer.com (David Scammell)
UPDATE: Rebellion says sorry for website's wording, admits it's "just as in the dark as you are about the next PS4 update".

"Sorry Playstation gamers, I'm afraid we're just as in the dark as you are about the next PS4 update!", the developer said in a statement provided to VideoGamer.com this evening. "This is what we get for being organised!

"When we were putting together our wishlist for ZombieArmy.com we thought custom console themes would be a cool giveaway.

"Lo-and-behold PS4 'custom themes' came out but didn't include the ability to add custom backgrounds (which we'd already been working on), so we probably do need to tweak the wording in the website to be a bit clearer.

Phantom Dust is a JRPG With a 30 Hour-Long Campaign

by Jordan Sirani

Microsoft Stuios' Creative Director Ken Lobb has revealed new details about the upcoming Xbox One exclusive Phantom Dust.

The reimagining of 2005's card-strategy-action game is "about a 30 hour JRPG," Lobb revealed on The Inner Circle Podcast. He wants to make sure the campaign does a good job of retelling, and improving, the original game's story. Lobb believes the story was "one of the strengths of the game," and feels it's best to retell that story, as "only like 60,000 people ever saw it."

Lobb says that the Phantom Dust reboot will correct the mistakes of the 2005 cult hit. "One really big flaw: if you started playing this game, you had no idea it was an arena game until you played three to six hours." He adds that the game began with too much focus on the story, which hid the fact that "you were gonna be fighting using these decks of cards.”

News: Xbox One games can be streamed to Windows 10 PCs & tablets

by contact@videogamer.com (James Orry)
Play many of your "favourite console games" using Xbox One accessories.

The new feature was demoed yesterday during Microsoft's Windows 10 conference using Forza Horizon 2. It isn't clear which or how many games will be supported.

Streaming is only supported through your home network, so you won't be able to stream games over the internet.

When streaming you'll also be able to use Xbox One controllers and accessories.
